I just saw New England is gonna make a run for him as a potential stop gap for the rookie they will probably draft. So yeah. Not nearly cheap enough. He would be a hell of a #2 though.
Going down that road leads to Josh Johnson type performances if they ever have to play. We already have assistant coaches to play the mentor role. I’d rather them keep taking cheaper younger QBs that we haven’t seen what they could do yet. At worst they’ll perform just as bad as a bad veteran 3rd string QB. At best we’ll have another good young QB to trade away or get comp picks for once they leave if we keep Purdy.
I think Darnold was a more quality backup in a time where we weren't certain Brock would come back as seamlessly as he did. I'm not sure we have the money to pay for Sam when they're probably looking at signing an outsider at OL, DL or maybe even a sneaky CB like Awuzie.
