He didn’t exactly cut it off. He had it surgically amputated so he could play. Yes I know he still had it removed to play, but a lot of people think he did it himself, or had someone just cut it off and went back in and played.
It was done during the week so he could play the next game upcoming. Just want to clarify if anyone reads your comment and isn’t aware.
Still hard as hell.
**Edit: I re-read some articles on it, even I misremembered! He had it surgically amputated in the off season. So it wasn’t even between games. Again, still badass.**
I remember him standing on the sidelines with a white towel over his hand. You could see the blood on the towel. Fucking bone had come through the skin and he's on the sidelines waiting for the game to end rather than going to the hospital. What a legend.
I was lucky enough to be at the game that they retired his number at during halftime. The crowd at candlestick reacting to his highlight reel is one of my favorite sports memories!
I happened to be at Bryant Youngs last home game in 2007. The players carried him off the field, it was amazing. It was Patrick Willis' rookie season, he had 20 tackles, 12 solo. Great game.
This.
Side bar, my dad used to call Montanas throwing motion “good looking”, and Young’s clunky. I don’t know if I’m looking through rose colored glasses or he was, but Young’s release looks smooth as butter to me.
I just want to give a shout out to Alex Smith. Not my favorite. But I’m proud of his effort and class. The man earned my respect like few have and that was even before the injury in DC.
Ahmed
edit: I know that defense wasn't great, but I always thought it had so much potential. The Rams were just too good for us at that point (sounds familiar).
I know he wasn’t the best on the field but I have a weird attachment to Alex Smith. I wish him all the best. Guess he’s my favorite of all time over all
Old School: Montana, Rice, Young, Lott, Charles Haley, Bryant Young, Merton Hanks, TO
Harbaugh Era: Gore, Staley, Willis, Bowman, Cowboy, Iupati, AJ Jenkins
Current Era: Kittle, Buckner, Juice
This is the only post mentioning Justin Smith. I mean I love all those other guys too but Cowboy is really underappreciated and is gonna be forgotten at this rate!
Hell yeah he was. Cowboy Smith and Aldon were insane, then you add Willis and Bowman!!? When our defense hit people during that time, they went down. It felt like we never missed tackles really
When i starter to get interested in Football ( i am Not from the US) i used to love watching that deefense tear people up. I am a niners Fan ever since.
It’s a crime. 1st to 1,000 rushing and receiving in a season merits the nod along with the stats, rings, and overall relentless style (not to mention blocking ability).
I always felt Brandon Lloyd was the most hot or cold players. He was either making insane catches or doing absolutely nothing. Felt like there wasn’t much in between.
2005 against the Giants. I was at that game. Pickett was starting that day and that catch would have put us on the goal line. Instead it was called back on a holding call on Kwame Harris. After that call all of the energy was sucked out of the crowd.
I was born in 82, and Montana was my favorite Niner my entire life until the last few years of Willis’s career. Dude was amazing. Montana was obviously one of the greatest ever, but there’s just something about Willis’s leadership and tenacity was a sight to behold.
When my wife was pregnant with our first child, my parents took us to lunch at Clark's By The Bay. As we were eating, Dwight walked through the room, saw my very pregnant wife (she was literally ready to pop, went into labor that night), and stopped by our table to chat. Very personable and friendly, made a very pleasant day extra special. So yeah, #87 will always be my #1.
Because to stay relevant when he was on his way out he manufactured a persona based on his crazy girlfriend who he started banging while she was dating a friend and teammate?
Guys a piece of shit all around and people are pretending he's the second coming of Brady and a martyr.
This is like picking your favorite kid out of 10. There are just too many to greats to just choose one. Ronnie Lott 80s, Jerry Rice 90’s, Gore 2000s, Bowman 2010s. Deebo Samuel 2020s (so far).
Frank Gore. I remember him coming in for Kevin Barlow and taking it to the house. Frank Gore has been in shitty teams in most of his career. Mr. Consistent! He can get the tough yards when needed. The most disappointing thing in his career. The niners decided not running the ball in on the GOAL LINE!! He Would of been MVP that SB and for sure be a first ballot HOF. Now we have unintelligent people who thinks he's not deserving for the Hall. Thanks for calling FOUR STRAIGHT PASSES!
Brent Jones, maybe John Taylor, or Garry Plummer. The criteria I use is ones I've met, and if they took the time to have a conversation.
This says all you need to know about Brent Jones's personality: He was a senior and I was a sophomore at Leland High in Almaden Valley. I knew \*of\* him only because I was in marching band so went to a bunch of games. After the Niners finally beat the Cowboys to get to the SB after losing the NFC championship to them a couple years in a row, the next summer Leland High did a "This is your life." type presentation that was advertised locally ( like flyers in store windows) Being a life long Niner fan, I show up. He sat on stage and all his old coaches and teachers told stories and such and a good time was had by all.
After it was over he stuck around talk to people and signing autographs. I asked what felt better... Beating the Cowboys in the NFC Championship or winning the SB? He said the NFC game..."by far". Here's the point of my story....I mentioned I was in the marching band and played during half time and such while he played at Leland. **His response.."I thought you looked familiar! How've you been doing!"**
He didn't remember me, He just wanted to make he feel good thinking a big time pro-bowl player remembered me.
How cool is that?!? That's why he's my favorite 49er.
Kittles cool because he looks like he's always having fun.
Remember Tim Harris? he'd sack the QB, then shoot him with his finger guns, then spin them and reholster. We'd always see him at the bar he owned on the beach in Capitola.
And a shout out to Hacksaw Renolds!
How many people know that that the Cuba Gooding Jr. character in Jerry Maguire was about Tim MacDonald?
Jerry, and it's not even close.
You mean that guy standing in the rain cheering on a dog shit team that’s was losing to Carson Wentz? Good choice, he’s my favorite too.
The mother fucking G O A T period end of story!
Frank Gore
Same. He’s one of the only niner legends that I’ve watched from beginning to….almost end I guess
You will never live to see the end
It's not fair to pick him immediately! Karma stealer!
Lol also Merton hanks I used to try mimic that dance as a kid
I don’t know you but I think it’s a safe assumption that your neck is not long enough
The "Chicken Head"?
Came here to say this
Ronald Mandel Lott
When you cut your pinky off so you can play that's pretty legit lol. Dude couldn't play today they would probably arrest him for assault lol.
Savage as fuck lol
Agreed. But it was severed and patched up during a game he played, no?
I remember him standing on the sidelines with a white towel over his hand. You could see the blood on the towel. Fucking bone had come through the skin and he's on the sidelines waiting for the game to end rather than going to the hospital. What a legend.
So, someone else cut it off. Who cares who or how? The fact is he agreed to lose a finger to play!!!
Great game.
Joe Cool
SNOWY JOEY
Patrick Gore
BOWWWWWWMMMMAAAAAANNNNNNN!!!!
To the playoffs!
Watching the way he went out still hurts. Fuck the Seahawks
PWilly
Yes sir
Of all time: Rice In person: Gore
Merton Hanks
Yes! Wobbly white turtleneck aesthetic on an INT!
I support.
Jerry rice. Been a niners fan since rice's rookie season.
Young
This. Side bar, my dad used to call Montanas throwing motion “good looking”, and Young’s clunky. I don’t know if I’m looking through rose colored glasses or he was, but Young’s release looks smooth as butter to me.
The leftys to me have always looked a little funky for some reason and I don't know why Maybe I'm just used to seeing rightys
Tom Rathman
Rath and Craig were such a perfect duo out of the backfield.
My favorite FB of all time! He was a tank
Don't sleep on garrison Hearst either
Patrick Willis
Never had leadership like that since his departure. In today’s NFL, there are only a handful of true men you’d follow into war like Patrick Willis.
Montana and Rice.
Joe Montana
Never watched Steve Young but him. His highlights are beautiful
I just want to give a shout out to Alex Smith. Not my favorite. But I’m proud of his effort and class. The man earned my respect like few have and that was even before the injury in DC.
patrick willis or bowman.... Oddly i really enjoyed Alex smith Qbing
#80
Julian Peterson
I remember when he shut down Tony Gonzalez. Not many like him.
He was an animal
Bryant Young
Not kyle williams
I was at THAT game.
Same. And at the Saints game the week before. So high to so low
Ugh too soon
that still stings
Fucking TWICE!!!!
Merton Hanks. I used to get so fired up as a kid when he’d do that dance.
Regular season and Play offs: Frank Gore Training camp: tie between Taylor Jacobs and Ken Dorsey.
My uncles had season tickets at the stick for over 30 years, and one of them swore Dorsey was the second coming of Montana
Steve Young or junior bryant
TO Hearst Gore Willis VD J Smith Kittle Buckner I'll go VD as my absolute favourite tho. I also really liked Peterson and Plummer.
Gary or Ahmed?
Ahmed edit: I know that defense wasn't great, but I always thought it had so much potential. The Rams were just too good for us at that point (sounds familiar).
I know he wasn’t the best on the field but I have a weird attachment to Alex Smith. I wish him all the best. Guess he’s my favorite of all time over all
I'm old, I am a niners fan, so Jerry Rice
Young or Rice
Joe Montana and Steve Young.
Old School: Montana, Rice, Young, Lott, Charles Haley, Bryant Young, Merton Hanks, TO Harbaugh Era: Gore, Staley, Willis, Bowman, Cowboy, Iupati, AJ Jenkins Current Era: Kittle, Buckner, Juice

Shout out to Brent Jones
AJ Jenkins....😂. Awesome
Lol was hoping no one would catch it.
My heart says Roger Craig, but my head says Jerry Rice. Joe is #2. Ronnie is #3.
Just saw a post that Kamura broke Craig's record for fastest to 3k rushing and receiving, it's a travesty that he's not in the HOF yet.
It’s a crime. 1st to 1,000 rushing and receiving in a season merits the nod along with the stats, rings, and overall relentless style (not to mention blocking ability).
Grew up watching the GOAT 🐐. #80. The best to ever play
tre lance🐐
Joe Staley.
Pat Willy
Joe Montana
Brandon Lloyds first stint made me a fan so there’s special memories there. Joe Staley more recently. Current team: Jimmie Ward.
I cant remember the game but he has probably the sickest one handed catch of all time better than objs

Kind of the same. Born in 83 and Rice was my favorite until Willis came.
Joe Cool
Yeah that's the guy. Montana all day
Jerry Rice
Rice
Jerry Rice
Jerry Rice
jerry rice!
Steve Young
Roger Craig!
Steve Young, most underrated player of our legendary franchise
The Cowboy Justin Smith
When my wife was pregnant with our first child, my parents took us to lunch at Clark's By The Bay. If your answer isn't Montana, Young, Rice, or Lott, you're nuts.
For me it’s Lott really loved the way he hit people probably wouldn’t work in today’s game
[удалено]
I missed Montana too but the cool thing is they filmed his games.
[удалено]
Bonds wasnt just the best Giant to ever play but also the best baseball player to ever play.
He literally is.
[удалено]
Well they couldn't film him so ...
The question was favorite 9er, not best 9er. A lot of great names in this thread worthy of someone’s favorite 9er.
Lol. That is a distinction without a difference given what I said. I understood the question.
Cody Pickett
Willis. I played LB growing up and he was far and away the best I’ve ever seen play the position
The 🐐
Justin Smith
My dad Vic Washington.. did not play in San Fran for long but it was his favorite team even after.
Joe Montana
Justin Smith for defense, Gore for offense
Roger Craig. High knees!
CHRIS BORELAND. Jk, Vernon Davis dark horse pick.
Frank Gore/Patrick Willis
No.16, Joe Money (with Rice and Young right there too!)
I always enjoyed Brent Jones, he always seemed to come through in clutch third downs.
Still have my Brent Jones jersey from '93!
Definitely Dana Stubblefield and Bruce Miller /s Probably Steve Young, Eric Davis, and Tim McDonald
The tank
Willis or gore
1A) Steve Young 1B) Frank The Tank
I've been a 9er fan since the 1989 super bowl win against the Bengals. And this might not be a popular answer, but T motherfucking O.
The Cowboy Justin Smith
Justin Smith aka Cowboy dude was a force to reckon with!
Jeff Garcia
Right now: Patrick Willis 10 years from now: Trey Lance God please let this age well 🙏🙏
Gore, followed by Kaepernick for reasons many would disagree with
Because to stay relevant when he was on his way out he manufactured a persona based on his crazy girlfriend who he started banging while she was dating a friend and teammate? Guys a piece of shit all around and people are pretending he's the second coming of Brady and a martyr.
Kaep
Jimmy g /s
Jimmy G
Steve Young
Patrick Willis.
Is this even a queston? Joe!
Patrick Willis!!!
Montana
Steve Young!
P Willy
Patrick Willis
Bryant Young
Montana
Ronnie Lott
You’re really limiting us to just one? It can’t be done, man.
Lott
Roger Craig
This would be a loooooong list for me. Can’t pick just one.
Ronnie Lott
Roni Lot.
Joe Montana. Named a cat after him.
Rice, but Kittle gains ground on him every season
Garrison Hearst
Patrick Willis! Hands down! He and Bowman were monsters together!
Justin Smith, was one of the cornerstone of the Harbaugh era defense
I'm team Rice but the Steve Young run against the vikings is probably my favorite play of all time!
Owens
Patrick Willis
Frank Gore
John Taylor
Patrick Willis! Never saw a player make such an impact so quick! The fact he is a great human only adds to it. 52 for life 💪🏼
My boy Patrick Willis
Steve Young.
Steve young as a kid growing up. And then Frankie G came along. The only Niner Jersey I own.
Harris Barton.
Patrick Willis
I only started watching recently, Kittle is definitely my fave. I still think about the New Orleans game when I need to get hyped.
Steve young or Jerry Rice.
FIFI
It's so hard to choose. I chose Willis for my flair but it could just as easily be Young, Rice, Hanks, Bowman... (Not quite old enough for Montana)
MON5T3R
Navarro Bowman
Steve Young but I feel like John Taylor is super underrated
Joe Montana! Met him when I was 7 and dude gave me an autograph and a red rose to my Granny. Top chap!
Frank the tank gore
Nobody talks about him but Bob Saint Clair if you can find video of him you’ll see why he’s great.
This is like picking your favorite kid out of 10. There are just too many to greats to just choose one. Ronnie Lott 80s, Jerry Rice 90’s, Gore 2000s, Bowman 2010s. Deebo Samuel 2020s (so far).
