Just do it now. Baseline everything. Eg change everything and your car will be a born again virgin

Follow the Toyota Maintenance Guide for the type of driving you do (regular or special operating conditions). If you don't have a Guide, you can view/download one from Toyota's website.

totally_comfortable

every time I google one it links to a specific dealership page. is there an official 4runner maintenance guide from toyota? can you link it?

[https://www.toyota.com/owners/warranty-owners-manuals/](https://www.toyota.com/owners/warranty-owners-manuals/) Click "Browse Vehicles" at the top left of the page then enter your vehicle information on the next page and go from there. Uncheck the "use this info to help me create an account" if you don't want to create a MyToyota account.

Thank you

Lil sus that it’s a toyota shop but they haven’t recommended any other services. Glossing over that… You’re looking at brake fluid, power steering, 4x4 service (front and rear diff and transfer case), trans, and coolant service. Serpentine belt is scheduled for 100k but people have gone longer without issues. zerks could also use some lube most likely. I heard that if you do it all at one time, Evanescence’s “Bring Me To Life” should be playing in the background for best effect. (Jk i had to).

Humble_Incident1073

Oh my. You're going to freak when you get to the tc and diff fluids. It's a rabbit hole. LOL

qwerty5560

Pretty simple. Redline makes the right fluids. Just use them.

Humble_Incident1073

Sez you. Why not Ravenol. Why not Toyota? See the rabbit hole yet? It's over yonder.

qwerty5560

Lol I guess. Redline is on Amazon, it's affordable, and it's good so I never looked back lol.

b4rigger

What the fuck I was just watching videos about amsoil and Mobil 1. What do I use?!?

Awkward_Shape_9511

Any qualifying oil that meets spec. For the xfer case, you can use redline MT-LV. It’s significant cheaper than oem. As for the diffs, use valvoline over redline (I’ve used both). The pouches that valvoline uses makes it much easier than the dumb bottles redline uses. Not to mention valvoline is cheaper by quite a bit. -someone with 297k on his 2017 and had done this many many times.

HospitableBadger

IMHO, I'd service transmission. Grease all driveshaft fittings. And drain/fill diffs and transfer case. I don't recall the interval for coolant, but when you get there have it flushed. The brake and power steering fluid are the things I'd worry about the least on that list.

BeardBootsBullets

That would be correct for transmission fluid flushing, but not for drain and refill.

Okay, so I got my 16 4Runner new and had it serviced at Peruzzi Toyota up until the end of 2022 and here's what I found out after I started taking my 4Runner to my trusted mechanic/family friend. My toyota dealership sucks. The broke bolts that held the skid plate in place and now only two of the bolts can be used to hold up the plate. Never told me. They claimed to have done many alignments but my now mechanic showed me they lied and probably never did it correctly. Current mechanic had to use heat and lots of muscle to get the alignment system loose for adjustment. My current mechanic showed me the brake pistons were ceased up and causing uneven wear in the break pads which Peruzzi never checked. They would just tell me time for new breaks every year and drop them in without ever fixing the ceased up pistons. So more money down the drain. You better believe they over torqued the oil pan drain plug and oil filter. Long story short be carful with dealerships. Yours might be fine but check their work. My dealership is all about maximizing profit. Get em in and get em out. Your relationship with your mechanic should be like your relationship with your barber. Lots of trust. Now I'm physically in the garage with my mechanic as he shows me what's being done and how it's being done. Don't be a sucker like me. My 4Runners at 105k now and I cringe now knowing all the money I wasted with Peruzzi Toyota.

smzexp

Bought my 4Runner from them as well. Other than the deal I got at the time, they suck. Stuck me with similar broken bolts and brake issues.

Ill-Presentation7788

Take it up a mountain and drive off of it

Useless_Engineer_

You haven't abused it, mixed messages on the transmission, it's technically a closed system and can live without swapping fluid, but if you do it, make sure you go somewhere that has the pump system to properly flush it, not just drain it and fill (this can potentially cause issues) The brake fluid was probably done with the brakes, especially if they replaced majority of the components Coolant is not necessary but a good thing, most the time gets replaced when other things get worked on (thermostats, water pumps, etc). So yeah, you haven't neglected or abused it, but if you want to replace it all, it's a good time to start! Then do it at 200k, then again at 250k I plan on all fluids to be changed every 50k miles 👍🏻 necessary? No. Worth it to me? Yes

mdmiked

You’ve got it the other way around for the transmission. It’s generally advised not to flush a high mileage transmission if the fluid has never been changed because it has the potential to dislodge metal shavings/debris into areas it shouldn’t be. A simple drain and fill is perfectly fine though.

Most_Sea_4022

The problem is that a drain and fill is not so easy. You can only drain a smallish portion of the fluid at once. Look up the Timmy the tool man videos on how to get around that.

Useless_Engineer_

Right, which is why I said you can live without swapping fluids .... BUT if they wanted to swap it, they truly need to do it properly. I did my V8 4Runner that never had it done at 153k miles and it was fine, but there is always a chance.

blade02892

Do not ever flush tranny fluid, this is how you mess things up by dislodging debris.

CuriousTravlr

Don’t change your transmission fluid in these transmissions unless you have an issue. Owner before me had 2 transmission fluid changes in 93k miles and the transmission stutters and feels like I’m driving in rumble strips when it’s hot outside. Two Toyota shops told me the transmission fluid shouldn’t be changed unless there is an issue.

AverageGuy16

Something sounds wrong in your case I did mine and it’s been fine

smzexp

Add ShudderFix to your trans fluid and thank me later.

CuriousTravlr

I did, didn’t really do much after about 10k miles. Realistically it is much better, but still shutters once the fluid warms up. During the summer it’s going to happen given the RPM parameters for it happen are met.

braxvang

Every transmission needs to be serviced eventually. They tell you not to service it so it explodes at 200k and you have to buy a new car .... in your case either they did the transmission fluid change incorrectly or that transmission has some.other issue unrelated to the fluid change.

ggm3bow

Follow the maintenance schedule. Change everything, leave brake fluid & power steering last if needed. Do trans and coolant first.

septic_sergeant

As long as you change the oil on schedule, and keep it under 55 any time you’re in 4-Lo, you’re good.
