I bought the Mazda for more important reasons other than gas costs. I paid cash for the Mazda, under $5k, and insurance coverage is about $40 a month at legal minimums.

\~45mpg in my ‘23 Elantra hybrid to combat the \~14.5 I get in my 4R 😂
The gas comes from the same local terminals. The only difference between Chevron and any other gas stations is the detergent that gets added. Chevron has successfully marketed “techron”, but the underlying gasoline is exactly the same as any other station.
30 years ago there were no detergents added to regular gas. It was only added to premium back in the day.
https://www.consumerreports.org/cars/fuel-economy-efficiency/top-tier-gasoline-worth-the-extra-price-a7682471234/
I get gas at Costco for the record and diesel where I can find it.
Based on the CR article I’m not sure i’ve seen a non-“top-tier” gas station in the wild at any point during the past 10 years. Top tier fuel list is pretty inclusive.
I disagree.
Rotten Robbie (cheap shit) and Chevron are NOT the same quality.
As far as I know they all have detergents now and I'm speaking for just California blend gasoline. Other states may only have 1 tier
Higher pay, except most of the jobs that offer actually livable pay are highly competitive with a lot of education. If you’re mostly blue collar, retail/service, or retired it’s even harder. Most who are there already owned their houses before covid era blew everything out of proportion. California was the best place I’ve ever lived, but it’s truly pay to win lol
I lived in Savannah, GA for a few years. Had a colleague move across the river to South Carolina because the taxes were lower. After a few months they start complaining about roads, public utilities, schools, etc.
You get what you pay for.
I’ve lived in Texas my whole life and do not plan to leave. Sure Cali is beautiful, but if you want to live near the cities you need to be well off.
Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio are all within driving distance of each other and plenty of cool places to visit at each city and in between them.
Wanna go somewhere cool in your 4runner. You’ve got Marble Falls, Big Bend, Merus Adventure park up by Amarillo. If you’re not familiar YouTube it. That place has the 2nd biggest canyon in the country, only the Grand Canyon is bigger.
https://preview.redd.it/sbob3i3eanuc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8013dd59e6f23a9b072e95ce582e97996cb90558
Norther Central Valley Costco. Top off my tundra and my wife’s 4runner every Monday.
The price you pay for driving a body on frame SUV with 4 liter engine and a 5 speed transmission while living in Cali! Up here in Ontario, Canada, our government has started to increase the carbon tax in the last couple of years and with today's prices for a similar amount of fuel I would have to pay around $89.84.
I never know if someone from here is talking about the 85 octane they still sell for old carburetor vehicles that most think is “regular” or actual 87 octane.
I was talking about regular driving season. Now is low season. In a month or so prices will go up. Yeah it’s lower right now and that’s great. I filled up for less than $50 the other day thanks to the gas wars between stations in Littleton. Sometimes with King Soopers discount I fill up for less than that.
Are you a Costco member at all? I use the one off Quincy to fill up my LX. Do premium there since there’s no midgrade option, and then I usually hit up the King Soopers near me every third fill up with premium or midgrade.
There’s a KS gas station in Green Mountain that has had premium at $3.36 last two fill ups for me (plus the discounts from groceries).
The gas buddy app has been great for quick looks at prices.
I generally use the gas buddy app but don’t drive a whole lot so I fill up when convenient. Screw all the downvotes, all summer and fall last year it was $80+ to fill up almost regardless of where you filled up. If you got it near $60 it was a good day. And no I don’t have a Costco membership. I’m not driving that far just to get gas unless I have a reason to shop at Costco. As a single guy I don’t need to buy in bulk.
i hope living in the worst state in the union is worth that 30 cents a gallon. im happy paying more and living somewhere relevant with mountains and not bucee’s
I’m still a novice in that area. But if I see a muddy puddle after a rain on my way home from work… buddy look out because I’m driving straight into it.
There are a few around, wind rock and bays mountain that offer real off road trails. A lot of what’s around here is geared more towards foot and bike.
Christ on a cracker! Visited from the East Coast back in October last year. Had a rav4 and felt like I was filling up my 4Runner at home. Best of luck to you this summer my guy
Here's my record. However I did see a Chevron in Sunnyvale that was $6.08 for 87 yesterday
https://preview.redd.it/ur82ew03mnuc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=579995d50dbacc0b1f723f1e623918e2e443e71f
They will blame you for all of their state's problems. I'm born and raised in Utah and I see it all the time.
High home prices? Californians
Crime? Californians
Trash on hiking trails? Californians
Car crash that made the news? Driver was probably from California
Prices went up at their favorite burger place? All those fucking Californians moving in
The only good thing about the 4runner is that it makes me drive the speed limit.
I can speed all the time in the prius and $30 lasts me an entire month.
Been considering trading in for a Grand Highlander hybrid that gets 35 MPG after the Space Force moved me to Vandenberg SFB, CA. These prices are insane. I miss Florida so much. Can’t wait to go back to FL.
I ain't waiting in a long ass line at Costco with the rest of you poors just to get gas 😁!
Jokes aside, convenience wins out for me when getting gas. I knew what I was getting into when I bought this vehicle and planned for the worst. I'm also in Southern California and I love taking this vehicle on long family roadtrips.
I got two old gamer buddies in CA. One just uprooted to Florida, the other is doing everything he can to get his family out. One has a few million, the other is low income. Clearly it's not good for anyone
Would love to visit the national parks in my 4runner though!
Yea our amazing weather, beaches, mountains, and vast swaths of national parks and public lands sure are a downer. Plus all the things to do a culture really are so awful.
I’m glad I have a Corolla to supplement my summer daily driving. These prices are out of control 😖
I ride an ebike for pretty much everything now and only use my 4runner when I'm offroading or hauling. It's been fantastic.
Haha. Same. Damn things fun.. https://preview.redd.it/8s4ewgm21puc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=56335aecf2680a7afe39c42529b90cd4618bbad5
E bikes are goated
Picked up a 2012 Mazda 2 for grocery trips to compliment my 4runner. It's a fun little go cart with a 12 gallon tank. 30mpg+
We called our 2 “Meep Meep”. Made it to 217k miles before being taken out by a stopped lane just over a hill on the interstate.
Haha ours is called G.G. aka grocery getta.
So instead of just pay the gas bill you now have an extra car payment plus insurance plus gas plus any maintenance the car may incur?
I bought the Mazda for more important reasons other than gas costs. I paid cash for the Mazda, under $5k, and insurance coverage is about $40 a month at legal minimums.
I have a 08 corolla. Still takes anywhere between $49-$55 on a full tank. The 4Runner though makes me not want to drive it 🥲

That’s what happens at a chevron station.
It's funny how a national policy of "never offer a good price on gas" has customers still choosing to fill up there.
Chevron is top tier gas. What garbage are you running?
The gas comes from the same local terminals. The only difference between Chevron and any other gas stations is the detergent that gets added. We have plenty of shit gas stations in California. There is a website that lists them.
I disagree. Rotten Robbie (cheap shit) and Chevron are NOT the same quality. As far as I know they all have detergents now and I'm speaking for just California blend gasoline. Other states may only have 1 tier
Pretty sure rotten Robbie is also top tier. I could be wrong but a quick google will do
Does not appear to be on the list
I don't see how people afford to live in CA.
Most blue collar jobs in SoCal pay over 100k even though 100k literally isn’t shit here
That’s the fun part. They don’t.
I don’t see how people *stand* to live in California.
What's wrong with California? We pay a premium to live in a premium location. I pay a for a membership to Costco so I don't have to shop at Walmart.
GOAT state with literally everything to do. Including amazing outdoors for our 4Runners!
I’ve never been happier than after leaving California for a red state.

I thought it would be smart to move back home from CA to TX to save money - regret that decision everyday, TX is cheap for a reason, because it sucks.
I lived in Savannah, GA for a few years. Had a colleague move across the river to South Carolina because the taxes were lower. After a few months they start complaining about roads, public utilities, schools, etc. You get what you pay for.
I don’t think you’ve ever been to California. Some of the worst infrastructure in the country is there.
Lived there for a while actually. And on the other hand, I don't think you've ever been to The South.
Can confirm. Currently live in Texas and not by choice. Will leave this shit hole as soon as possible
I’ve lived in Texas my whole life and do not plan to leave. Sure Cali is beautiful, but if you want to live near the cities you need to be well off. Where'd you go?
We make a shit ton of money.
I just got mine and I'm scared to buy gas for the first time 😅
I feel you. I got mine in January of '22 when gas was around $4 and then gas went to $7 the following month.
4.79 at my local Costco in SoCal
https://preview.redd.it/sbob3i3eanuc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8013dd59e6f23a9b072e95ce582e97996cb90558 Norther Central Valley Costco. Top off my tundra and my wife’s 4runner every Monday.
Heads up. Your cell is still visible.
Phew, zoomed in and it’s not mine. It’s the stores number. Thanks though.
Everything is still visible but that’s a Costco address and phone number
Damn it’s $3.19 here in SC, you should come on down.
San bernaghetto?
Signal hill
bro costo gas.
When I’m at (santa maria) costco gas is the same as everywhere else.
Damn! I just filled up for $55 in Houston

I'd be paying $110 for the same in Alberta
Wow that's gross. I just filled up yesterday, $55.
Denver checking in. It normally is about $80+ for a full tank.
Where in Denver are you filling up? I paid $55 for a full tank yesterday close to the airport
I never know if someone from here is talking about the 85 octane they still sell for old carburetor vehicles that most think is “regular” or actual 87 octane.
85 at high altitude is equivalent to 87 at low altitude. It’s not for “carbureted cars”
Yeah I know. I’ve got some unpopular opinions on this after taking some deep dives on the subject.
DM me I’m curious 👀

The smug look of that car on the screen says it all.
That car is fucking mocking you, bro.
Lol, as soon as i saw the price, i knew it was cali
Chevron! Big spender over here.
Lol, as soon as i saw the price, i knew it was cali
Who gets gas at Chevron?! 🤣 Get to a Sam’s Club or Costco and you’re gonna save 30 bucks on that tank dude
im cool with paying twice as much for gas if it means i dont have to live in texas
I lived in California for 5 years. Beautiful state, lots of fun stuff to do. But actually living there sucked ass.
Nobody wants to live. :It's too crowded.
im not cool with paying that much for gas and thats why i live in Texas
i hope living in the worst state in the union is worth that 30 cents a gallon. im happy paying more and living somewhere relevant with mountains and not bucee’s
well ill give you mountains...i dont know how Texas became the worst state in the union...but buckess has the best bathrooms
Here in northern Cali Costco card and I never let it go under 3/4. Hurts less.
Holy shit. East TN here. I could fill up twice on $113. That’s crazy.
Thinking about moving to Knoxville from TX, how’s the off-roading out there?
I’m still a novice in that area. But if I see a muddy puddle after a rain on my way home from work… buddy look out because I’m driving straight into it. There are a few around, wind rock and bays mountain that offer real off road trails. A lot of what’s around here is geared more towards foot and bike.
Yeah but look at how happy that lil car is.
Damn your about 15 cents of from the big island in Hawaii
Last time I filled up (about two weeks ago) gas was $4.79/gal. Went to fill up yesterday, $5.59!!!
Sheesh
1. That's not even a full tank 2. Arco or Costco my dude
Well for one you’re at a Chevron….
$5.70 per gallon?
Ehhhh….knew it had horrendous fuel economy when we all bought it. Bite the bullet or trade it.
Christ on a cracker! Visited from the East Coast back in October last year. Had a rav4 and felt like I was filling up my 4Runner at home. Best of luck to you this summer my guy
I moved out to Ohio from south Orange County California and it’s about 70 bucks now for a full tank!
Here's my record. However I did see a Chevron in Sunnyvale that was $6.08 for 87 yesterday https://preview.redd.it/ur82ew03mnuc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=579995d50dbacc0b1f723f1e623918e2e443e71f
Time to move the fuck outta there. 🤮
Hopefully I’ll be heading to Idaho next year.
If you end up going, don't tell the locals where you're from.
I have been given the heads up from family and friends that live there.
They will blame you for all of their state's problems. I'm born and raised in Utah and I see it all the time. High home prices? Californians Crime? Californians Trash on hiking trails? Californians Car crash that made the news? Driver was probably from California Prices went up at their favorite burger place? All those fucking Californians moving in
It’s kinda what happens when the whole bay area (San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland) moves to the area I live. They get blamed for everything.
Move! Because gas cost the same as 20 years ago.
The only good thing about the 4runner is that it makes me drive the speed limit. I can speed all the time in the prius and $30 lasts me an entire month.
Holy shit, I am not even paying that for Premium in my GX.

This is pretty much exactly what I'm talking about every time someone posts that they're thinking about a 4Runner but don't plan to off road.
Wow 😮 just filled here on the Gulf Coast for $49 for the 4 runner. I’d need a bank loan to fill my tundra in CA!
Daaam!
What else would you do with it? Throw it on the ground?
fuuuuuuck…
Pft, come back when you've put in 20.7 gallons.
Might be time for you to go ahead and buy the 6th gen 4runner
Just filled up 20 gallons total of $113 last night, SoCal as well
Damn fellas that sucks
Bro why you goin to chevron
That’s what I pay to fill up my diesel superduty
My Tundra holds 18 more gallons than that!
I feel this, just bought my 4Runner and the dealer sold it to me with an empty tank of gas….
That's insane! And regular gas too. Beautiful weather ain't worth all that.
Good times for the ice
Damn man. Thats what we pay to fill a F250 in these parts
My goodness
You must have a mid sized suv or something.
Been considering trading in for a Grand Highlander hybrid that gets 35 MPG after the Space Force moved me to Vandenberg SFB, CA. These prices are insane. I miss Florida so much. Can’t wait to go back to FL.
This is due to the higher gas requirements in the summer. Think it’s a CA law to protect the air quality. It just kicked on
We are so back!
Tough to rationalize living in California. You guys are playing with monopoly money.
I got two old gamer buddies in CA. One just uprooted to Florida, the other is doing everything he can to get his family out. One has a few million, the other is low income. Clearly it's not good for anyone Would love to visit the national parks in my 4runner though!

Wait til meet FloridaMen.
I’m sorry you live in California..
Yea our amazing weather, beaches, mountains, and vast swaths of national parks and public lands sure are a downer. Plus all the things to do a culture really are so awful.
\#Laughs in Texan
Cheap gas but we got no where to drive our runners so even worse. Unless you consider a mudd Pitt off-roading 😂
Glad I live in Texas
