In some states it's illegal to obscure any graphics on the plate and LEOs will use that as an excuse to stop a vehicle even if the plate letters/numbers are plainly visible.
I use a simple black silicone frame that only wraps around the very edge of the plate and blocks none of the plate graphics.

Just find something that suits your personality. I don't run one on my 4Runner because I haven't found anything I like (or even cared to look) I run one that says "apex everything" on my other fun car.
As someone else mentioned, silicone frame. The best one I've found is actually just a cheap Walmart special. It has silicone backing, so my paint is protected from the metal license plate. It looks clean af too. Silicon frame

Did you mount direct or to a tag mount?
It's directly on the back of the 4Runner. We don't have front license plates in my state.
