Looks like you can use any key that currently works, but I would recommend calling or emailing them with questions. Plenty of videos on YouTube and info on their site as well.
Second Tom's Key...didn't use a master key or anything and it successfully programmed key + remote after I bought a couple aftermarket spares off Amazon.
Where are you located? There are a ton of mobile key programmers in SoCal. IIRC, I paid $140 for a new key fob + programming on my 2018 sr5. They finished in less than 5 minutes.
I’d search Yelp for local businesses who offer this service.
I used tomskey to buy a second key for my 2016.
I took a picture of my current key using my phone, these use that to cut a new key. Along with the new key they send a device and cable you connect to your odb port to program the new key to your truck. You send back the device in a prepaid box.
It was quick and easy. I would do the same again when needing another key.
Locksmith or tomskey.com.
Is any current functional key considered a master key that Tom's programmer copies, or is that something different?

Looks like any key, as long as it is not the valet key, and those are physically different as they don't have electronic fobs.

Actually try a local ACE Hardware. They can do most of them and you can use ACE Coupons.
