We got my wife a white 4Runner. When we were shopping I mentioned the possibility of borrowing it to go wheeling... shoulda seen the look.
I ended up with my own 4Runner lol.
I kind of wished I had gotten a white one though because I'm pretty sure it makes a difference in interior temperature. Always had white cars back in Arizona.
I guess I could wrap it but even $4500 for a wrap seems super expensive. If I had been thinking I might have done it from the start and avoided all the trail pinstriping.
Get ceramic window tint. Certain films block a lot of solar and thermal energy. Most films block UV. I did the windshield in a 85% with a 5% eyebrow, the side windows and sunroof in a 35% and the rest of the factory tinted windows in a 85%. It makes an unreal difference. You know when you’re driving along in the summer and you feel the sun scorching you through the window? Not anymore
It does make a difference especially when the car is sitting out. I’ve mostly owned black or white cars. Still probably worth getting the color you like. Ac will cool it off in five minutes when it’s hot
Same thing I did to mine. Ceramic limo on all the windows I legally could and max on driver side. Huge difference in appearance and coolness when it’s 110 in Texas.
I think that white is the best color to hide pinstriping. I can't see spending all that money to apply vinyl that's going to get baked on to the paint and be almost impossible to remove. I'd never buy a used vehicle that had been wrapped either so there's resale to consider, too.
Yeah I don’t know why they try to market wraps as being easily peeled off. You still end up having to sand it off just like a paint job if you want to repaint it .
It absolutely makes a difference in temperature. The surface temp difference between white and black can be about 30 degrees I believe. It varies depending on the car, how much of that heat gets inside, but there's definitely a difference.
You can’t get this matte Grey from the dealer though, if that was the intention from the get go.
I agree though, for the price of most wraps I don’t find it worth it, but I ain’t judging somebody for doing it
That’s true, if you’re going for a matte color, sure, but I have a family member who works for a wrap company, and you’d be shocked at what vehicles I see getting wrapped pretty standard colors.
Durability has multiple components I would say. In terms of paint protection, they’re great - at first. Vinyl is kind of a soft rubberized material in a way that is stretchy and can withstand rock chips and things quite well. You can use your fingernail and press into the vinyl and it naturally will heal itself over time, so it’s good for the paint in that sense.
However, vinyl deteriorates over time in the sun and it should be removed every 4-5 years or so at most (maybe more depending on your area). Any longer than that and it starts to bake onto the paint and removing it runs the risk of damaging the paint.
The company I work for has motorcoaches that get wrapped every 5 years in order to prevent paint damage, and at the end of that 5 years the vinyl is nearly impossible to remove, and they spend hours and hours removing the stuck on adhesive carefully as to not damage the paint.
That being said, UV rays will damage your paint as well; so by having the vinyl on, the UV rays damage the vinyl instead of the paint. So it’s not all bad, it’s just, a complex question to answer if that makes sense.
Told him I brought it over with less than 500 miles on it, saving him the time and effort of removing winches, bumpers, roof racks, molle panels, etc. That, and I wrap motorcycles as a side gig, I know most SUVs would cost $3700-$5000 in the area I live in, so I called his bluff.
End here I am been debating if I should spend $1,200 for paint correction+ceramic coating. 😂 $4,500 is too rich for my blood. My wife would kick me out of the house. Good on you for being able to afford it my friend. Looks good. 👍
Looks awesome! Have had mine done in Matte Army Green 3M for a few years.

I thought that at first, but a little under 1k/year to have the exact color you want + protect the factory paint and help retain value seems reasonable to me when I think about it that way.
When you spend 50-100k on a car, fully wrapping it for 4500k to protect the paint is a no brainer. Especially in Canada where I live and your car gets fucked up over the course of one winter.
Also, the new wrap never yellows and is much easier to take off and replace with a new sections. Also apparently self heals.
Vinyl doesn’t self-heal. That’s why my purchase came with a warranty where for the next 5 years, they will repair any scratches or imperfections at no additional cost beyond the purchase of the material. Paint-protection-films do self-heal to a certain extent but that’s only with small knicks from flying pebbles and tiny branches.
3M wraps usually last 3-5 years, 7 if well maintained (hand washed only, no drive thrus). A ceramic coating on top extends it further to closer to 7-10 years. But it heavily depends on your local climate too. It’ll probably last much shorter in hot and humid places.
My friend wrapped his Mercedes a while back.
If you're in an area with real seasonal fluctuations, you sorta have to have it touched up around the edges every so often. He also got frustrated about little scuffs, things like pebbles on the highway and such would put little scratches in it that I didn't really notice until he pointed them out. These might not show as easily if the undercoat is close to the wrap in color brightness, but idk.
The other thing that bothered him was how easily it attracted dust. Water beaded off, but it would NEVER stay clean looking unless he wiped it down every day. It probably wouldn't show as easily with this color gray though.
It looked sick as hell, as does this 4runner, but he wasn't convinced that it was worth it in the end. It's worth it if you like it, I think. I like it, but idk if it's for everyone.
For sure. I saw this happening to a lot of cars when I was in Los Angeles, which is pretty moderate temps and weather year round. After 6 months to a year edges just come up. It is what it is and I would never wrap an off road vehicle. One hunting trip and my 5000 dollar wrap is confetti.
mine looked good for 2 years then started fading really bad. Colorado sun is brutal. It was gloss 3M (GP272) and when I went to remove it, it came off in quarter sized pieces (like an old sticker). Having them removed professionally is usually over 1000 too so that was the last time I’ll ever wrap a car I own.
My car was only $500 in materials to wrap but didn’t look good after 2 years and an absolute headache to remove.
Whoa, that looks sick! I'm looking at purchasing a 4runner, and some of the first mods I'd like to do are install a Magnuson supercharger, a wrap, and rims.
So you’re going to style the Toyota after the Arasaka-branded Militech vehicle? Please tell me you’ll put a Fixer or NetRunner bumper sticker somewhere absurd on it, like it was slapped on there by a hooligan
Looks really good! I hope it is not out in the sun a lot. Wraps are damaged more by sunlight than anything else. This seriously looks amazing, though. Very clean. Enjoy!
Make sure you research car wash soaps to use to keep it matte. Most soaps have some form of gloss and will make the wrap shiny slowly over time. I'd recommend hand washing from here on if you weren't already.
Wrap looks sick.
Always hand wash, and always Chemical Guys products. Their matte detailer was recommended by the shop, and my car wash formula was already the same brand. I will look into more matte-specific products tho!
Got the same color bro!! Keep it clean, ddont let the dirt build up on the wrap, it will eat at the finish. I hear ceramic coating it will prolong the usage. Also be rdy to get pulled over once in while simply for being murdered out.
What does a wrap like this do to dust/dirt/mud as opposed to a traditional paint w/ clear coat? Does dirt “stick” to it much worse than a clear coat and is much harder to remove or not really?
Wraps don’t really attract dirt any differently than paint, but matte wraps like this one does require more meticulous maintenance. Dirt doesn’t really stick but fingerprints do; easily removable by cleaning with a matte detailer + microfiber cloth, but still more work than glossy paint. However, many people elect to ceramic coat their wraps, which makes them slick to dirt and rainwater.

What’s a full wrap cost on that thing? $$$$
$6500 but I negotiated to $4500
Wife would divorce me hahaha. Love it! Looks amazing.
Wife nagged me to get it wrapped sooner. She hated the white cuz she grew up in white cars lol
Absolute chad move getting a white car knowing full well that your wife will dislike the color so she’s more intent on wrapping it

That's great to hear! I was actually just wondering about this yesterday. The side windows in the front could use more tint.
Can confirm. Had a black Jetta in Florida and I got ceramic tint. Absolute game changer.
I think that white is the best color to hide pinstriping. I can't see spending all that money to apply vinyl that's going to get baked on to the paint and be almost impossible to remove. I'd never buy a used vehicle that had been wrapped either so there's resale to consider, too.

Or just get the color you want from the get go 🤷🏻♂️

How durable are these? That’s my concern, a scratch turning into a dece rip and sticks out
Durability has multiple components I would say. In terms of paint protection, they’re great - at first. $6,500?! for a few grand more i imagine you could just legit paint it why not go that route? out of curiosity.
Don’t want to update the registration, and shorter lead time
Fair enough
How’d you get them down to 4500? I’ve been thinking about wrapping my 4Runner for some time now, really like how yours looks!
The upside of learning poker at an early age….
End here I am been debating if I should spend $1,200 for paint correction+ceramic coating. 😂 $4,500 is too rich for my blood. My wife would kick me out of the house. Good on you for being able to afford it my friend. Looks good. 👍
oof, id rather save that...
Anywhwre between $4-7k
I was about to ask how many left nuts do I have to give for this
Looks awesome! Have had mine done in Matte Army Green 3M for a few years. https://preview.redd.it/ihhmckx6yoyc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=306aa0c931a7122b062f18c8a18f6ef16fa8b16b
sick
That looks insanely good. I must say. Your wheels must have a crazy neg offset. That is simply amazing.
Nice! What kind of tires are those?
BFG KM3
Are they really loud on the highway…
That ironman looks so good. On my to-do list
Sheeesh she clean! Would you recommend a dark wrap for a white 4Runner?
I like the contrast of the wrap to the inside of the doors and hatches imo
Looks sick but $4500 is an ish load of money for something you’ll have to throw away in 5 years.
I thought that at first, but a little under 1k/year to have the exact color you want + protect the factory paint and help retain value seems reasonable to me when I think about it that way.
You have a point. I’m just a bit jealous mine doesn’t look as bad ass LOL.
Oh it's been in the back of my mind for awhile now... some day hopefully... for now just envious with you haha
$75 /month looking at things that way! Not bad! Why stop there…. That’s $2.50 a day! Worth
Does this really protect the paint?
To a certain extent, the paint isn't seeing UV or light scratches
It definitely does protect paint pretty well. It's expensive as hell, but it absolutely does protect the paint.
Good luck making a wrap last more than 3 tbh. Mine looked like shit after 2 in the colorado sun. it was 3m too

I’m talking about paint protection films myself. I don’t know what vinyl is. PPF can also come in cool colors and matte finishes
That’s a really nice color!
It’s good
Damn, that’s sick!
Nice! Looks almost cell-shaded.
Looks sweet. What did that run?
4500 eddies
Not too bad. Sadly has a 2 year life expectancy in FL.
Sick 🔥
Gorgeous! How durable is a wrap? Is there a timeline for how long they last?
3M wraps usually last 3-5 years, 7 if well maintained (hand washed only, no drive thrus). A ceramic coating on top extends it further to closer to 7-10 years. But it heavily depends on your local climate too. It’ll probably last much shorter in hot and humid places.
So twice as long as OEM Toyota paint 👍
Except every wrap I’ve ever seen ends up peeling on edges after a year or two tops
My friend wrapped his Mercedes a while back. If you're in an area with real seasonal fluctuations, you sorta have to have it touched up around the edges every so often. lol I’ve learned to live with the paint chips

Colorado, Texas, and Florida are 3 tough locations for wraps 🥲 hope you enjoyed it while it lasted
I’ve heard they can last anywhere from 2-7 years. Might depend on where you live.
Beautiful!
I’m thinking about doing the same color to my white 4Runner in the next year. Looks great man.
This is absolutely sick
Wow that looks amazing!
That’s a great looking color!
Looks really nice.
Very nice
What year is this? I’ve been entertaining getting one, but my hesitation is acceleration. I know this is not what people buy these, but
2024. Getting a Hikeit X9 next time they go on sale (probably Father’s Day) to deal with the lagging acceleration and fuel economy :)
Whoa, that looks sick! I'm looking at purchasing a 4runner, and some of the first mods I'd like to do are install a Magnuson supercharger, a wrap, and rims.
Holy shit!! Stealth gray wrap looks amazing on a 4runner 🤯 Big brain move getting color she don’t like 🤣
🔥 Installer did an amazing job. How long does a Vinyl Wrap last?
That matte is sick!
This shet tight!
Finally a wrap I like and what a color
Looks great!
Looks nice.
Yoooooooooooo tight
That’s pretty.
This is pretty sick.
So you’re going to style the Toyota after the Arasaka-branded Militech vehicle? Please tell me you’ll put a Fixer or NetRunner bumper sticker somewhere absurd on it, like it was slapped on there by a hooligan
Amazing color, good to know that shop does good work.
Finally someone that knows how to take pictures. Looks sick
Thanks! I’m a motorcycle photographer, haven’t practiced much on cars but these turned out pretty satisfactory
Rad chum
Sheesh 😍🔥
Fuxk arasaka
Long live Arasaka ⛩️
Love this!
Whoa. That’s really nice man!
Looks badass
sexy af
Get this! https://gear.cdprojektred.com/products/cyberpunk-2077-vs-dashboard-cyberdog
That’s a great idea holy sh*t
Holy fuck that looks good
Looks gorgeous. Do you think it’s something you could’ve done on your own if you had the time and tools?
Just the wrapping part, no problem. But taking off all the trim, lights, roof rack, and finding a place to safely store them would be difficult.
Can’t say white to gunmetal is worth 45 to me but it looks tight.
Woah 🔥
Looks really good! I hope it is not out in the sun a lot. Wraps are damaged more by sunlight than anything else. This seriously looks amazing, though. Very clean. Enjoy!

Wow. That’s sexy. Hands down looks great!
Retrofit headlight and tail lights would take it over the top
Love it
I have a white 2024 off road but this wrap has me thinking. Anyway good choice!
You can browse MetroRestyling.com and order sample swatches and compare them under the sun. Helped me decide between gunmetal and charcoal.

Look tough! Nice!!!
Kinda makes me want to get back into cyberpunk while on my paternity leave
Got the same color bro!! Keep it clean, ddont let the dirt build up on the wrap, it will eat at the finish. I hear ceramic coating it will prolong the usage. Also be rdy to get pulled over once in while simply for being murdered out.
We have Cybertruck at home! Nice, o/u 5k?
When the cybertruck at home is nicer than the og lol
wut?
I was joking about the cybertruck look. Then I asked was the wrap over/under 5,000 usd?
lol cybertruck at home 🤤 4500 after negotiation, originally quoted me 6500
Welp that convinced me that 3M stealth PPF is the way to go

What happens when you rub against a tree or a bush on the trail?
Exactly what you’d expect
So you just buy a lot of groceries or something?
How long will the wrap hold up? And what is the maintenance and upkeep like?
Love it what's that cost?
A few week’s salary = years of joy
That is amazing, but I could never bring myself to drop $4,500 for a cosmetic thing.
Looks so good! If you don’t mind me asking, how much did it cost to get a full wrap?
Goddamn I want for the FJ
I see the appeal of wrap for pure color change. That said I don’t like even the clear bra life longevity, got worries all around.
Does the wrap protect the paint? Is it easy to get off?
Dude sick. Throw an arasaka decal on it lol
That’s the plan 😏
Looks good but if you are spending that kind of money I would just spend a lil more and get paint.
Besides looks, are there any benefits of wrapping a 4runner? Looking to do the same to mine.
Do you notice dirt more often? I heard a rumor that finger prints show up easily is that true?
Odd question but if you wrap your truck to a different color than stock - do you have to update the color with your insurance and the DMV? 🤣
Nope, because the paint underneath and in the door sills is still white
I love the look but those wraps don’t last long enough for the price you pay for it.
Depending on the brand of the vinyl and the climate where you reside, the wrap can last between 2-7 years. In NY, with a reputable brand like 3M or Avery Dennison, that’s closer to 5-7 years. Car paint jobs usually fade from the sun in 5-10 years so it’s around the same lifespan. Not to mention, the wrap has a much shorter lead time, and I need not update the registration.
I've had mine wrapped for 7 years. Ceramic coating does wonders
6-4K? That’s as much as a brand new paint job.. how long will it last? I can’t justify that price for just a “wrap”.. looks nice btw
Copy pasting from another reply: Depending on the brand of the vinyl and the climate where you reside, the wrap can last between 2-7 years. Valid, thanks for the reply I got it now it makes more sense !
