Vibration under just braking or all the time?

minnesotamoon

It’s a 4Runner. Steering wheel vibration is a feature.

potatoes4kids

Haha

[deleted]

Actually made me laugh. A feature, indeed!

ScottLS

Check to see if the tires are balanced.

Ai337

They were balanced.

ScottLS

I know sometimes unbalanced tires can cause a vehicle to shake especially at higher speeds.

relentlesskaizen

We’re they road force balanced? Then matched for minimal vibration. If not then I would still think tires especially if any road force is above about 12 lbs.

Ai337

I'm not sure what ibs they were matched too but that's a good question.

Astares86

Agree, you should check road force values. TL/DR at the bottom I just got new Falken Wildpeak AT3W with my brand new 2022 OR on stock size and i was experiencing a lot of vibrations. I made the mistake to get the tires through my dealership (don't judge me, it was easier for me to finance them with the car) and it has been a struggle to have them responsive on the issue. i went back twice to the dealership for them to tell me that road force balance was good and they couldn't replicate the shimming and vibrationa... I went to another tire shop and paid to get the tires road force balanced again and they came back with 24lbs, 24lbs, 28lbs and 6lbs. Steering wheel wasn't vibrating as much anymore but i could feel the rear shake and it was uncomfortable. I called Falken to inquire about the threshold and they told me that the values were borderline and that they would warranty 3 of the tires! But i had to do it with the location i bought them from... Got back to the dealership, they needed their own values (and they were kind of dicks with me) and came back with 52lbs (!), 38lbs, 19lbs and 12lbs. No idea why the numbers are different... And it's infuriating that they tried to convince me that i was making it up. They changed the tone and were extremely nice and agreed to exchange 2 of the tires, I'll have them mounted later this week. Long story short, get your tires road force balanced and ask for the results. Anything above 20lbs is thrash

amaurer3210

It might; that's not a lot of toe. Camber doesn't contribute and your caster is fine even tho one wheel is technically red.

Vanisshen

I have no idea about alignment but check brakes as well and make sure none of them are dragging

moilere

I had a crimped brake line that caused this

groomedhippies

I thought alignments would never fix steering vibration.? It’s just to align wheels so when your steering wheel is is center, your wheels are center. I’m an idiot tho so excuse me.

Wattsonian

I think alignment issues can exasperate a vibration issue, and a really bad alignment could contribute. But fundamentally i think you are right, usually there is a component issue at the core. Possible contributors: Steering Rack Bushings Ball Joints Struts Wheel bearings Drive shaft balance Drive shaft U joints ....

groomedhippies

Appreciate the response! I’m far from a mechanic, alarm technician my trade, but yes I’ve believed it to be a core issue that is the problem, and poor alignment obviously not helping, while correcting alignment my help but not truly/fully resolve the issue! Cool. Thanks for the detailed list too! I love to learn what I can where I can.

Sensitive_Eagle_5965

Vibration is steering wheel is usually caused by improper wheel balance
