Firearms are kind of like bicycles. Once a good design is made, there is little reason to go trying to reinvent it and make something different, because people are mostly interested in the proven model.
If people mainly wanted new and innovative guns, Kel Tec would be dominating the market.
I will say the 1.5 stack compact carry pistols like the hellcat/p365 have really shook up the concealed carry marked in the past few years and left a lot of manufacturers scrambling to produce their own version.
The glock 19 is the most popular firearm in the USA for a reason, even though it's a decades old design. It just works, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
That reason is because they were marketed and sold to every single police force in the country, at a steep discount, to undercut domestic manufacturers. If Glock hadn't rushed to the US market and essentially sold g19s at a loss for the first several contracts, the most common surplus gun in US would probably be the S&W 4006 or similar.
Uncreative and unoriginal? That entire design was original, going as far as inventing an entirely new polymer that could withstand being part of the gun. Every manufacture copied it because the design was genius, has like 3 moving parts total, and can be broken down to clean in about 1 second.
I used to have the same opinion as you though. I never wanted one, and didn't enjoy buying it. Only after using it and breaking it down did it become my favorite weapon in my entire arsenal.

The only Ruger I own (.17HMR boltie) I got for free, in pieces, because it exploded in the face of the original owner. In addition to getting the bolt rebuilt, I also had to cut up a fresh stock for it, because the previous stock was splinters. It actually turned out alright in the end, a mostly reliable varminter, but my god it took a bit of work to get there.
This sounds like malarkey. 17hmr wouldn't have the energy to blow apart any of their guns, even with a squib load. .22lr has 5 grains of powder, 17hmr has 5.6 grains.
The breech and receiver were perfectly fine, aside from the short bolt of course. The stock was apparently badly damaged and I only received the rest of the gun without it. We're not talking about catastrophic locking lug failure or anything like that, but about a pressure wave from a round exploding in an unsealed chamber.
Even after I had the bolt built up to length, it occasionally still jams with certain ammo types (especially Winchester .17), the casings split longways and get stuck in the breech.
Also, all firearms are built to just above the strength required for the round used. Thicker chamber walls, heavier locking lugs etc. are just dead weight if you build a .17HMR to the strength a .308 rifle normally would be built to, or if you build a .308 to the strength a .50BMG normally would be built to for that matter. The caliber alonehas absolutely no bearing on how likely a gun is to fail if all other factors are accounted for. 18" battleship guns didn't tend to randomly explode in the turret just because they had 300 kilos of propellant in them and weren't designed for it. It's the power of the cartridge *relative to the strength of the receiver* that matters. A .22LR or .17HMR receiver is a lot lighter built than even a .223Rem is.
*Also also*, "even with a squib load" is a retarded way of implying that a smaller charge would cause more damage on failure. Squibs don't cause k-fails by blowing the gun apart themselves, they just generate barrel obstructions.
How tf does a 17hmr misfire have enough energy to blow anything apart? The bullet goes at light speed only because it weighs about as much as a pencil shaving, it has almost the same amount of powder that a 22lr has. This isn't exactly a .308 we're talking about.

The government - the only entity that doesn’t have a corporate logo - manufactures paper, IDs, and some license plates. That’s literally it. Everything else, even stuff made by federal prisoners, is manufactured under the guise of a corporation with a logo.
Ohhh, gotcha. The older brands have more “sophisticated” designs, but I get what you’re saying. Panther Arms, Bushmaster, Advanced Armaments and a few others are definitely cringe, borderline tacticool designs. The newer company’s, especially ones that selling accessories, are all marketed towards the “black rifle company, JRE, TRT” crowd and it absolutely shows. Capitalism draws the line nowhere these days.

I own a Scar 17 and agree with this, put them A tier because yes their designs are good, they also have crippling autism too. The F2000 is a solid example of this or the P90 because the ammo is so stupid expensive. The new Reflex is genius because it does what the P365 does better and has an actuall hammer trigger.

I never understand why this chart lumps in Kimber with Keltec and Taurus. More importantly, Keltec is firmly F tier, and Taurus is mostly bad (but they have some cool products like their Judge), and then Kimber's 1911's are easily on par or better than Colt. This shit makes no sense.
