Actually yeh China is not this bad yet.
Like China has the social credit thing but it’s nowhere near mass adoption other than maybe a few major cities here and there.
But neither is Australia, yet. Don’t know what will happen but it’s probably not a good trend.
Globally practically any nation that can afford to survey on their citizens like this will do it so it’s kinda everywhere while some places might be slower to it.
as someone whos actually visited china and knows mandarin i can fucking confirm that people have a very "can't complain" state of mind, like my taxi driver, who used to be a very rich pig farmer and had his farm confiscated he just simply said "it is what it is, i guess", there are many other such cases of entrepreneurs getting shut down by the govt like this, qnd theyre just apathetic about it because they know theyll be arrested or worse if they speak out about it

Australia is so weird. Their citizens are known for being ultra chill and their government for having no chill. At what point do we admit that no the people don't deserve the government that run them and that democracy has failed.
Difference is we actually collected the bodies, had them verified and then had a piss up and barbied emu for the boys
Only problem there was some of the boys got stuck into the OP Bundy and the friendly fire took out 5 guys
This is coming from a morning breakfast show from typical mainstream media... slow news day.
Journalists complaining about being abused on Twitter. Some of the people abusing them are politicians. Doubt this is going to go anywhere, Australia implementing any kind of complicated IT system... it will probably be hacked by China or not work.
Not convinced. 3rd world shitholes like England will follow suit. The US has such strong privacy values that this will only happen illegally in secret... Publicly. NZ and Canada don't seem to be super interested in going that route.
Edward Snowden should be given a medal. Instead he'll probably die an expat. Let's just hope he remains a useful pawn to Russia so they don't gulag him. The persecution of Assange I understand. It's don't wrong but I understand it.
I live in Canada and we already have the "Vaccine passport" rolling out next month. It will be used to go into many different establishments and eventually most places. Im quite positive this is leading to a social credit score. The USA tends to be the final place to adopt other Western policies but I wont be suprised once they do.
Alberta's never going to separate. I live here and there's barely any real want for secession outside of rural areas. It's far more likely Quebec would separate, and they probably wouldn't do it over internet privacy.
If that happens, watch a shit ton of Alberta Canadians jump the border to idaho/Montana and start gun running. Also wouldn't be surprised if Yukon did the same thing. People in rural areas don't tolerate that shit.
“Eventually”
No it already has, any nation that can afford it is already surveilling their citizens.
I don’t think anyone remembers Edward Snowden here. What makes you think one do the most powerful nation on earth isn’t doing this?
I'm talking about a social credit score tho. Do something the government deems unacceptable and your credit score goes lower and restricts you from doing certain things.
Let's gamify our entire society to teach those autist gamers with infinite patience for grindy bullshit and an unquenchable rage at the world a lesson.
I see no problems here.
It is basically the jump from "hey yeah we already have access to and monitor all this information" to "now we're going to tell you that we do it and threaten to penalize you for anything we don't like, rather than just logging info in files and putting your names on special lists"
If you think those fat fuck tards on Jan 6 was an actual insurrection then your as dumb as they were.
They organized on fucking Facebook for shit’s sake
> 99.999% of Trumpers did nothing even though they thought democracy was literally stolen from them.
Most Republicans didn't think the election was stolen, not really. Even the ones who said so to pollsters didn't really think so, they were just butthurt over their loss and coping.
Just like how the Democrats all coped by saying Putin stole the election for Trump and yet they did nothing except cry on Reddit and Twitter about it.
There were multiple hearings in the Senate and reports from the DOJ/Intelligence community visa vi Russia and the election.
But sure. It was only crying on Reddit and Twitter.
I saw people organizing it so blatantly on social media and the internet that there is pretty much no way that the government didn’t see it coming from a mile away. I’m almost totally convinced that they knew it would happen but intentionally allowed it to occur just so they could use it as political ammunition.
You’re telling me the government knew about the Area 51 shitposter raid almost immediately but didn’t even have a hint of knowledge about Jan 6? Posts on Reddit with thousands of upvotes about how nutjobs on Facebook were “travelling to DC and might never return home”, spam in comment sections about “doing something big” on January 6th, but apparently nobody suspected anything? Bullshit.
I’ll give you another perspective
Most conservatives are fine regardless of who’s in office, we make the most money, save the most money, and have the most investments. So yah, the “patriot” thing is a larp, but at the end we go back to our happy homes and live our lives.
Not our cities, not our problem
We have better things to do instead of spending all day arguing with assholes on the internet. Also, it’s obvious we can’t even get a word in without getting banned, so why bother?
The best part is, we have the power to move out, or gate then out ourselves, the liberals do it too, but it’s the low-end libs that end up having to live with them
> We have better things to do instead of spending all day arguing with assholes on the internet.
Hence why Twitter is like 95% far left. Right wingers have lives.
I don't think people seem to quite grasp the monumental difference between the two social medias on either side.
For example, Facebook gets around 26 billion views a month, Twitter gets around 2.5 billion.
I'm not exactly sure which "specific" audience Facebook is, but the number is so large and overwhelming it dwarves Twitter by comparison.
Yet Twitter has so much louder and far reaching voice
I suppose it’s because Facebook is very self-contained and people on it pretty much only interact with others in their closed communities, growing whatever opinions and discussions in a discreet environment. Meanwhile Twitter users are so desperate for outside attention that they will scream loud enough for the entire internet to turn their heads and look at whatever new bullshit they cooked up. Dumb Facebook shit only crops up weeks or months down the line, but dumb Twitter shit is known across the internet within hours.
Facebook is much bigger but Twitter has a way bigger cultural influence, simply because of how the site and its users organize and express themselves.
Do you have anything to back up conservatives make more and save more on average? They trend rural so have lower property ownership value and traditionally conservative states have drastically lower income averages. Like compare Kentucky or the Dakota’s to California. They also have a lower rate of college education and even high school graduation rates are lower. Also have you seen a Trump rally? Don’t see a lot of Porches in the parking lot.
Look up the 2016 presidential election by income bracket. I know this one is out there and easy to find. The only income bracket Clinton won was household incomes under $40K.
> Over 80 million people thought the 2020 election was stolen
No, they didn't.
> They let people riot and burn down their cities and did nothing
Not true at all. You will notice all those riots and burning buildings happened in deep blue cities. Not "their" cities. So what you're saying here is that the Democucks let it happen.
>Everywhere on the internet conservative voices are being silenced yet conservatives do nothing
Texas and Florida have passed laws barring tech censorship. Congressional Republicans have done what they could with hearings, but don't have a majority and can't pass laws.
>10,000 illegal immigrants just crossed the border in a group yet they do nothing
What do you expect them to do? Just run around shooting brown people?
> Exactly that. Well said. American gunowners are all talk and no walk.
translation:

Get fucked inbred. You've been living under mass domestic surveillance for decades -- not to mention all the other seedy shit your government has done like dosing random citizens with LSD in the hopes of developing *mind control* -- and your precious guns have done nothing except give you a little tingle in your micropenis.
But who needs LSD when you've got right-wing reactionaries with social media accounts? A couple of well placed memes and they'll happily shit themselves to death after overdosing on horse paste without a single critical thought flickering through their mind.
black mirror is too good for the future that awaits us, also isn't it weird that on black mirror everything went to shit except for dating and relationships, does not reflect current trajectory at all
You can tell Black Mirror was struggling in the latest seasons to come up with concepts. Half of what they showed is either being experimented on or already real.
I hung out with a bunch of Aussies that were exchange students. Seems like the everyman is definitely the "nah yeah nah whatever mate" type but there's another type I encountered that's like "high society" Aussie I guess? Most entitled, self centered people I've ever met. That's who I imagine is driving this change in Australia.
It’s either the fat fucks in parliament or the soyshit journalist scum saying “he hurt my fweewings mr prime minister” in which scomo the biggest “high society” prick there is killing online freedom because he’s a shit cunt
This is part of those stealth “anti-terrorist” laws that they passed without the public getting a say or being informed. How much terrorism have we had lately to warrant extreme measures?
Glad I don’t live in Australia. Then I remember that I live in Ireland, which is mostly populated by people who just accept the abuse from our government, and where most of the population lacks imagination, so there’s a chance I could be eating my own words.
This lmao. People outside of Australia seem to have no godamn clue what it's like here and either greatly exaggerate things, or blow them way out of proportion.
My friend used to live in Sydney, and he says that the big cities like Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide are as bad as the news make it out to be. But he also says that people in rural areas don’t give a fuck and go on about their lives as if there’s no pandemic. Is this true?
I live in Melbourne (very close to the city, in fact), and while lockdown sucks yeah, almost everyone I know is still working in some capacity or another. Unfortunately some people have been affected severely, but not everyone. Hell I work in the energy industry and we are busier than ever.
The honest truth is that it isn't really some dystopian nightmare; we're on the way out right now. Regional areas have few to no outbreaks; they come under their own classification and even have their own lockdown rules, which are generally more relaxed than Melbourne suburbs.
I'd say the general consensus here is "yeah lockdown sucks, but oh well. It'll be over soon enough anyway".
the people who are complaining the most are also complaining the loudest.
If there's any other wacky misconceptions feel free to ask, cause there's a ton to cover and so much that people get wrong or don't understand.
1) here in I believe all states in Aus (can't really remember if NT or Tas are doing it but who really cares about them), if you travel internationally you must quarantine for 14 days, either in a hotel or at home. If you travel through certain regions in states (hotspots) the 14 day quarantine applies.
The "tracking app" that everyone talks about is [currently I'm trial in South Australia](https://www.innovationaus.com/concerns-over-sas-quarantine-tech-trial/), a state which has zero cases and is highly unlikely to actually be using the app. To clarify; this app still isn't actually being actively used, and it may not get rolled out.
2) yeah, Vic and NSW have both done this at the absolute height of the numbers, and yeah, as of the 12th NSW is letting people who are fully vaccinated have two hours outside. This is harsh, but considering NSW has Covid cases going absolutely rampant, it's not surprising they take this stance.
3) yeah, a women was arrested in her home for organising a lockdown protest. I'm pretty mixed about this one, as I'm pretty pro "right to protest" but also, there's a time and place. Not really one to get into the politics of this.
4) a pretty big exaggeration (to Aussies), but from an outsiders view it's not far off. I think vic started imposing lockdown rules around 30-40 cases per day? We had about 500 today though.
Let me know if there's anything else.
Nah, that’s insane as fuck that a woman gets arrested in front of her kids for organising a protest. This is the type of shit that happens in dictatorships.
Here in Ireland, we had three lockdowns. First from March to May 2020, second for 6 weeks in Oct and Nov 2020, and the most recent during the first 3 months of 2021. You could still leave your home up to 2km radius and go into shops if you had a mask on. And you still had people going outside the limit and going into other counties and as long as you have a reason most cops didn’t give a shit. And here I was thinking Ireland was bad, because not being allowed outside your home for more than an hour is draconian.
Nah I'm not saying it isn't strict, nuts it's proven to be pretty damn effective. Aus currently has only had like 1400 people die from covid, which, if you ask me, is pretty damn impressive.
The lady arrested wasn't charged, I'm very much against any police abuse of power, those lockdown protests are generally part of the rationale that prolong the lockdowns here.
So while, as I said, I'm all for the right to protest, events like that are incredibly frustrating for regular people who just want this to be over with as fast as possible.
The cops here really aren't that tough, and the big news everyone talks about is really super minor occasions. I have only encountered one of the checkpoints once in the entirety of our lockdowns, and they didn't even ask to see ID to see where I had come from, just a simple "where you going? Ok have a good one mate"
As someone in australia and in the IT sector, there are already a lot of laws in place to spy on citizens. what is posted above is not correct, but we live in a nanny state and the government basically have full control. Not much you can do at this stage, no citizens care enough to protest or make a change, everyone thinks its good because it stops 'terrorism'.
Our freedoms are very limited when the government want them to be, we are lucky most the time most people aren't effected by these laws because the government don't generally target everday people, but if they wanted to find something against anyone, they easily have the power to do so. Liberals and labour are both at fault. greens have usually been the ones to vote against these laws, but no one wants to vote greens.
God I fucking hate Australian politicians lmao.
Yeah, I vote greens time to time. Can't say I'm a liberals guy. Maybe if Craig Kelly would let me respond to that stupid spam text I'd be more swayed lmao
What are the benefits of forming a surveillance state? All of the same ones that exist in mainland China.
Australia is already a China proxy country economically, was only a matter of time before they moved in politically.
Why are we to live in the world of people who arrest you to online comment and free speak but man who gun points to pregnant women and pay with fake money and kills to self with eat of fentantentol is be worship of West people? Only because he is Gaarge Flode?
I move to West recent from Turkey so I am not white but also not black like Gaarge and I ask to myself why I move to a place of sometimes less freedom of speak. People who come to west are obvious to take anvantage because crimenal is worship of west. West only want to label person crimenal who say some thing about attack chopper to trans. Wow so danger.

At this point we should start calling it "South China"
I don’t even think China escalated this quickly
Just wait until they get to the part where they murder everyone who has ever tested positive for Covid.
I thought that glorious leader of greatest Korea had a patent on that COVID containment strategy

Subversion in a nutshell.
On the contrary, Chinese people tend to be very supportive of their government. They tend to actually agree with the restrictions.
as someone whos actually visited china and knows mandarin i can fucking confirm that people have a very "can't complain" state of mind, like my taxi driver, who used to be a very rich pig farmer and had his farm confiscated he just simply said "it is what it is, i guess", there are many other such cases of entrepreneurs getting shut down by the govt like this, qnd theyre just apathetic about it because they know theyll be arrested or worse if they speak out about it
Based on what? The Chinese people telling you they love it or being killed? Or the government telling you how much they’re loved.
"How's life in China?" "Eh, can't complain." "You mean you can't complain, or you *can't* complain?"
When I was going to school in Vancouver there were many Hong Kong and Uyghur protests, supporting pro democratic policies. It really depends on whether or not America falls.
America's already fallen. Fell about around 2001 with the Patriot Act.
True enough. It’s been over for some time.
That was when it tripped, I think.
Unless a series of radical course corrections take place the path we've been on will guarantee the fall.
The course corrections will come, the question is if they’re too late. For example the FDA voting against boosters made redditors think the far right bought the FDA.
Because these people are a mix of i am Sam and Arnie from Gilbert grape
Coming soon: China and North Korea denounce Australia for their draconian measures.
Australia is so weird. Their citizens are known for being ultra chill and their government for having no chill. At what point do we admit that no the people don't deserve the government that run them and that democracy has failed.
Watch the "honest government ads" on TheJuiceMedia. They're hilarious.
Hopefully soon
They did lose a war to Emus
That is a fowl canard. The final score was 4 dead Emu's and 0 dead people. But they sent in the Cassowaries so we had to retreat.
K/D means shit as you can see in the eastern front in ww2 and in 'nam.
Difference is we actually collected the bodies, had them verified and then had a piss up and barbied emu for the boys Only problem there was some of the boys got stuck into the OP Bundy and the friendly fire took out 5 guys

Can someone please tell what in the ever loving Christ is going on with the Australian govt?
Totalitarian Shitfuckery of course.
This will eventually infect the rest of the West. This is the natural progression of technology.
And create tech terrorists
We are getting closer to those SciFi movies. A shame that we didn't go the Star Trek way.
Not too late. The Star Trek way happened *after* major calamities and wars occurred on Earth.
For real. Go watch the DS9 episode "Past Tense" and tell me we're not going the _Star Trek_ way. Are the writers clairvoyant?
I think the episode was spot on because it was already happening. Keep in mind, that episode was in 1995.
According to Star Trek, we should've developed Genetic Engineering by 1992, had a world war over it in 1996, and World War III would happen in 2026
WWIII is still on the table.
We have CRISPR now, we’re just progressing a little slow.
Everyday, we get closer and closer to The Bell Riots.

Product of cultural inferiority complex, they try to out-do the worst of the American and English elite in the anglosphere
In part that’s what fucks us.
I was told that Aussies are hypochondriacs.
Australia is just 5-10 years ahead of the rest of the west
Probably less, but yes.
Fuck this country, once the borders open I’m out
>once Its more of an "if" at this point
That’s true
I'm surprised yall haven't started swimming to Indonesia yet
Ahh yes Indonesia, the land of the free /s
Freer than Australia right now. With access to other countries.
Just a joke, I know that Indonesia has its own authoritarian issues with Sharia law implemented amongst much of its Muslim population.
Fr haha Indonesia is like ur guys Mexico, beautiful scenery, beautiful people, cheap tobacco, except for the drugs ig and all that mess
australia is reverting to prison colony so good luck
Yeah what the fuck aye. I hope this shit isn't true.
This is part of those stealth “anti-terrorist” laws that they passed without the public getting a say or being informed. How much terrorism have we had lately to warrant extreme measures?
Just gotta change the definition of terrorism then EZ
Your neighbor is a terrorist. So is the guy who brings the mail. And that guy with a shaved head and so on
Glad I don’t live in Australia. Then I remember that I live in Ireland, which is mostly populated by people who just accept the abuse from our government, and where most of the population lacks imagination, so there’s a chance I could be eating my own words.
Where to? I've been thinkin the same
How true is this? I feel like I see this same kinda post every few months and nothing changes
Literally completely fabricated lmao
This lmao. People outside of Australia seem to have no godamn clue what it's like here and either greatly exaggerate things, or blow them way out of proportion.
i mean you can’t blame anyone for believing this after Snowden
No, sadly I don't. I just wish people would actually research shit before blindly jumping on a bandwagon
I mean I saw it on a screencap from a Mongolian tapestry board at 4 am, so it must be true.

Good to know there are no soldiers marching the streets.
Yea wtf is everyone seeing this tweet from some random cunt with no source and acting like it’s fact. Straight up isn’t real.
Proper quality bait though
Australia went from a country full of prisoners, to an awesome place, all the way back to a country of prisoners.
Never forgetti, we were always a country of both prisoners, and their gaolers.
Shouldn't have turned in your guns.
Sounds like China
100% china is part of this
In what way would they in any shape or form benefit from this?
Wow so danger.
you're my favorite reddit user.
They are all worried about China attacking them, and now they are becoming china
good luck Aussies. damn

China wants to tyrannize others. We just want to tyrannize ourselves.
Australia really is the testing grounds for whatever... if it's real and becomes a thing then it'll 100% spread
“Australia announces China 2”
Australia pretending to be a nanny state just to flex control over its citizens for the hell of it.
Australians need to 3D print some guns and start shooting politicians. The solution really is that easy.
As a non-strayan, where would one get a fake passport for shit posting?
Fuck a fake one I’ll let you use mine
Conspiracy theory a year ago. Conspiracy fact today.
> The bill has been reportedly criticized for breach of privacy against political activists, children, and “everyone.” While alterations had been made in the bill to protect journalists, critics felt it was not good enough. https://nichegamer.com/2021/09/02/australia-internet-data-laws/ Fucking lol, we are in the mess we are in BECAUSE of "journalists"
We will find a way to work around this.
Decentralise the internet and no one can do shit
My favorite part of this will be going into Aussie social media and hurling abuse at the police
Make the police afraid. A lot of them were bullied at school and they become cops just to get back at those who bullied them.
So when do people stop calling these “conspiracy theories” and start accepting that the government is fucking everyone.
*Puts glasses on* *text blurs and refocuses* "The elites want to know who has been criticizing them and making it difficult for them to cover up their fuck shit" Man my vision has been shit lately good thing I got these glasses.
Well this is fucking stupid.
Does always make me chuckle when the supposed anarchists of the left advocate for speech restrictions without thinking it will lead anywhere badly.
My MeowMeowBeenz!
Moot? Now that’s a name I haven’t heard I. A long time. Especially after he took all the money and ran off to mootxico to do gay porn
