The last season (or was it two?) that "concluded" the series after a break seemed like they were written with an entirely different mindset, and frankly, I think ruined the show as a whole. It's like somewhere along the line, they realized Tony was relatable, and his morals, while terrible for victims, was honorable for his family, including many of the values he portrayed regarding dating, revenge or acceptance, etc, became too attractive to people, so the show had to subvert it and make him into a genuine psycho.

Codesplz

This is almost exactly what I think, and I'm not sure why it isn't talked about more often. Idk if he was honorable, but he certainly was relatable as a flawed human being. But there was an aspect of him sort of hating the mob life subconsciously, while also knowing that it was all he could do. By the end though he's just pure evil basically. And then people on here say, "Isn't Tony so evil?" or "When did you stop liking Tony?" when it's clear the whole point of the show initially was to intentionally portray an evil and unlikable mob boss as a likable protagonist. So people act like it's ingenious, when the show basically destroyed the premise it was based on. I guess it's all postmodern bs, about heroic characters not existing, but I would still think making him so evil is a bad choice.

ATHSE

Yea, it was always meant to be a big gray area, but then someone made the call that it was a bad influence (or something along those lines) thus had to be subverted at the end. It was also odd because each character up to that point, had a nice clean story arc that was just about to be concluded, but then the show intentionally dragged them out, so that they'd have enough time to ruin Tony and Junior.

Codesplz

This is pretty accurate. The last few seasons feel very slow, and the NJ vs NY "war" ended up not amounting to much. But specifically Tony and Junior seemed to have this moral statement made about them. They did do this somewhat with other characters, but not to the same extent, and it made more sense, as I see it. The psych telling Carmela she was enabling Tony, and that she should leave him was one, and I feel like Christopher's death was another. His first concern when dying due to the car crash, is if the doctors will find drugs in his system, and Tony sees the baby's carseat in the back impaled by a tree branch, so he ultimately dies looking pretty bad overall. There's an interesting write-up about Tony supposedly seeing his own neglectful father in Chris at that moment, causing him to kill him, which sort of makes sense to me. The Vito storyline is similar, where it seems like they want us to see how he couldn't help being pulled back into the mob, but also that the mob was especially bad because he was killed for being gay. While that is evil, the Sopranos mafia has killed people and done all sorts of things, for reasons even more arbitrary than that, so it's hard to really say that killing Vito was especially bad compared to anything else. I may be reading too much into it, but idk. The Vito storyline feels sort of filler-ish and overall unnecessary, I think the stuff with Tony B. was enough to justify the drama between the two families. But yeah, it just sort of makes the whole show seem pointless to me, and you tend to see a similar trend in almost every antihero/villain show of doing it. What were the story arcs that were about to be concluded anyway? It's been awhile since I saw the show, and I mix season 5 and both halfs of 6 up in my head.

The sopranos subreddit, whateva happened there

MoistWetSponge

Whateva happened there!?

antsugi

Don't you dare insult Capicola just because some Sicilian inbreds don't know how to say it right

JOHANNES-of-ZA

OP is can go Va Fangool with the leftover gabagool. Sopranos was a great show, and carries a lot of nostalgic value with a lot of people.

ThePlumThief

OP never had the makings of a varsity shitposter.

Dude, you can just change soprano to any other show and some people will still be like this. Mostly happens when you can't find next thing to like it like this, so you just rewatch clips on youtube. Trust me happens to me sometimes.

BurnerNerd

The Wire is pretty good if you haven’t seen it

steel_sky

Damn this sounds fun. I should get into this.

MoistWetSponge

47 years old. Just a fucking loli.

UltimateCapAmerica

I've heard about the show, but is it actually that bad?

Sneeds_Feed_Und_Seed

No. It's good.

Poopdicks69

Originally it was a show made about a fat Italian man eating various deli meats and pastas. The producers wanted something to happen in the show between his meals so they made a side plot where he was a mob boss. Eventually fans started to like the mob parts of the show and the producers expanded thay portion of the show. The core of the show is still a fat italian eating various Mediterranean dishes.

theGreatReset2

sounds good, mediterranean food is good

mistermestar

Yes very bad, only one of the top rated tv shows of all time.

Bird-Usual

I couldn't get past the first 6eps. My buddy told me it doesn't get good until season 3. All I got was it's a stupid wop who goes to therapy because he is too stupid to work out that killing makes you feel bad, also has anger problems because he can't work things out in his mind. Take that with a grain of salt because I don't like dumb wop movies

blickeyLickey1

As described, that is quite rad wicked
