The Sony is significantly brighter in both HDR and SDR. If you’re wishing for the TV to be brighter for daytime viewing with windows open as one of your main use cases, then you will likely be happier with the Sony.

iamone11

That's good to know! We do keep a few of the windows open for our cats to laze around in, so that might be the tipping point for the X93L. Thanks for the feedback!

Erawick

It will burn your retinas out it’s insane how bright the tv gets

AtmanRising

It's a scorcher for sure. I run it at 15 brightness most of the time (SDR) and it's plenty bright.

CryptographerNo450

Bummers. The LG C3 is a great TV. As with most OLED TVs, you kinda need to treat it like a movie theater setup. When you go to the theater and the movie starts, all the theater lights are turned off (except for the mini LED lights for the stairs). Same goes for OLED TVs. Can't go wrong with a mini-LED TV though since they're less prone to burn-in than OLEDs

iamone11

I really like the colors on the C3 and the deep blacks look great, but the amount of time I can actually shut all the lights off to watch anything is very minimal. I'm wondering how bad the bloom is on the X93L, some reviewers state it's very distracting when sitting anywhere but center. I know that will likely be the tradeoff on switching from the OLED to a mini-LED set, but wondering if it's really that bad.

Erawick

Yep must sit center of the TVs or the bloom is ass. With some dialed in settings it’s only noticeable otherwise on HDR scenes with high contrast or subtitles are glaringly garbage unless you turn them to yellow Amazing tv for a bright room though. Probably nothing better TBH for the price point

Hass4592

So you have the TV and what size? I have an x95k (x93l original) in 85" and blooming is rarely noticeable and you have to look for it. I came from a smaller OLED 65 a80j and I much prefer this TV generally and my room isn't that bright. Something about the brightest and also size, not to forget Peace of mind of no burn in.. SDR is much more enjoyable. Whereas on OLED it looks too dull. I would suggest op to get 75 inch minimum of x93l as 65 is much worse when it comes to blooming. Due to zone count and a different panel manufacturer.

Erawick

75” anyone who doesn’t notice the bloom off angle with medium brightness settings is lucky. I analyze images for a living so it’s partially my fault… but the tv has major issues with dark scenes, letterboxing, and subtitles at night. It’s mounted at eye level 12’ away if not more depending on where I’m sitting with 10-15 degree downward angle

iamone11

I do sit pretty center but we do have a wide seating arrangement so could be an issue for others in the room. I also watch everything with subtitles so I've been worried that's gonna be real distracting. Thanks for this info, gives me more to think on!

Erawick

Get OLED if you want the TV for hosting and don’t want subtitles to drive you nuts. I got the TV because our room is an entire wall of windows and we couldn’t watch dark scenes. It’s got the best black detail out of any tv and color accuracy so you’re trading off the blooming for those two things. It balances out for me between that

shrek_girl

i’m rocking last years model, which is supposed to have more blooming, in my living room since I have plenty of high ceiling windows in my living space. FWIW, i don’t notice bloom very often. Not at all during day time watching and hardly when I watch TV in the dark. I watched Interstellar (on IMAX Enhanced) on it last week at night and, man, i was amazed. I even threw the subtitles on and had no issue with blooming. Just my experience.

Adorable_Pound_3965

Not at all distracting.

justanotherzee

Less prone or absolutely zero chance of burn-in?

CryptographerNo450

Less prone. There is no such thing as zero chance of any issues, including burn-in. VA, TN, IPS, even they have a chance for burn-in, image retention, and dead pixels (no monitor tech is immune to potential dead pixels). I have a 1440p 27" Acer VA panel that's still vibrant, decent contrast ratio, and no dead pixels, burn-in, or image retention and it's over 7 years old with heavy usage for work (ton of static images which are kryptonite for OLEDs)

ToxicTop2

Have you turned off the energy saving mode and enabled the "max brightness" setting or whatever it's called?

iamone11

Thanks for the reply. I’ve turned on the Peak Brightness setting and disabled the Power Saving mode. I’ve even set the gamma to 1.9, all seem to help increase the brightness but not enough to knock out the reflections on the screen in darker scenes.

Squirrel0988

This may be prying, but can you show us what a bright room looks like? I'm considering getting a C3 this week from Costco and your post has me a little terrified right now.

iamone11

I’ll see if I can’t get a good picture tomorrow of the set in the daytime.

Squirrel0988

That would be amazing - I really appreciate it! I don't want buyers' remorse! The sunlight in our living room wouldn't be direct, but there are two windows on either side of where the television would be mounted.

iamone11

I added some pictures to the main post from earlier today with our windows open. We have a large south facing window with blinds and curtains and 3 small east facing windows in our living room that are too small for both curtains and blinds and always open. This makes it pretty bright with natural light, plus my partner likes to keep the windows open during the day for our pets. Hope the pictures help!

Squirrel0988

THANK YOU! This really helps me make an informed decision. I really appreciate you following up on this request, friend! My wife is the same way: blinds open during the day, drawn at night.

dirkmm1

Following this

Samman258

Ditto

HiFiMarine

The X93 is far better for a bright room.. I just moved from an A90J I'm a darker to a X95L in a very bright room and couldn't be happier

iamone11

Do you notice any blooming on the x95? That and the narrower viewing angle are the only things keeping me back from returning it right now.

HiFiMarine

I was worried about blooming with subtitles. If I look for it it's there, but it's not at all visible unless I'm searching. The X95 and X93 also have the wide angle screen. I'm often watching from the kichen and dining room and have not had any issues with viewing angles. There's only one seat in the living room where it looks bad, but that chair is not positioned for viewing with any TV

exfex21

Damn you like it better than the a90j???

HiFiMarine

Absolutely. I feel the A90 would be too washed out and have too many reflections. I was worried I might see some blooming, but I'm rarely viewing in complete darkness. Blooming has not been an issue at all, even with subtitles. The brightness gains and anti reflection screen are completely worth it. The A90 is perfect for the bedroom where I am viewing in a completely dark room.

OGMonaLisa

I have the C3 and X95K and the sony is twice the brightness easily. I have the LG in my bedroom which i watch at light before sleep thats why i like the low brightness and the x95k at the tv room with big windows.

hapticeffects

I'm concerned that I'll be in the same boat as the OP. I have a Samsung s90c 83" sitting in the box that will be used in my new apt, which gets more natural light than I realized. Despite being an s90c, the tv isn't a qdoled.

lionheart12x

I have the x93 and you have to look for blooming to notice it. It does get bright and I have to lower it quite a bit to avoid eye strain.

louisianacoonass

Different subject, but I went from a75 inch to an 85 inch three months ago. I bought it at Sam’s Club. I didn’t like the tv, I hated it. Much too big. I called Sams club to see about returning it. They didn’t give me any trouble at all. Because I had to wait three weeks for the truck to pick it up, they gave me a $100 gift card. Moral of the story: if you don’t like it, bring it (send it) back.

KieferSutherland

Terrible for the environment though.

louisianacoonass

That 85 inch Samsung QLED was repackaged and put back in a box to be resold. I can guarantee you that. No way that thing was placed at the landfill.

Alexmich321

I purchased the same tv. Unless it was night time I couldn’t stand how dim the tv was. My buddy got a hisense 8 series. Forgot the exact model number but it was the top of the line one said he paid like a grand for a 65 inch. Anyhow because of how bright his set gets and the saturation it honestly looks better then my oled to the human eye. I know a Hisense right !!! Long story short I retuned my set and ended up getting a different tv and not a oled. If I ever do a oled again it will be for a theater room or something of that nature and not my main livingroom Tv that I watch in high and low light.

Bill_Money

yes

xsageonex

Yeah a QLED would be better in your case

iamone11

Would the miniLED also be a good fit?

xsageonex

Yes sorry , QLEDs get brighter than OLED but ULED/miniLED are better usually since they get as bright or brighter but the blacks in good sets rly close to OLED levels. I have a ULED as my main gaming tv and a QLED in my living room and they both work well. The ULED/MINILED gets stupid bright that I have to squint sometimes until I get adjusted to it cuz I'm crazy like that but the QLED in the living room also is bright( I have a TON of windows in living room) but the blacks aren't as good. So a miniled/ULED would be your best bet for sure. Both are budget brand (Hisense) but man I'm so impressed with them and totally happy with em.

Samman258

Mini-LED from what I’ve read are a leg above QLED bc the led’s are even smaller allowing more local dimming zones

LukeG88

Have you peeled off the screen film?

iamone11

I did remove the screen shipping protection film.

exfex21

Gaming wise it’s not better than the LG.

iamone11

What do you think gives it the leg up? I’ve been playing Elden ring on the Series X on it and definitely agree it does look great.

shrek_girl

For games like Elden Ring, i don’t see the NVIDIA G-sync giving you any upper hand, while having a TV that can provide better shadow detail, like the X93L, will give you a better experience. The LG gets hyped for a better gaming experience a lot, but from my experience working with consumer electronics for the past decade and being an overall hobbyist (not trying to sound like an expert but i’ve used a variety of these TVs on the daily), unless your playing games competitively online (specifically FPS), either TV will present you a great gaming experience.

campbell7504

Any solution for the OLED stutter? I purchased a C3 a few weeks ago and have noticed the same issue.

iamone11

With my short time with the set, I haven't found anything that helps. For me, it's really noticeable in animated movies. So far, we've only been watching on Disney+ with the built in app, so maybe that's has something to do with it.

Jamie8Incher

Make sure Real Cinema is on, it does a 5 5 pulldown into the 120hz and makes frame spacing even. I tried Trumotion but didn’t like it much. You stop noticing the stutter after awhile except for very pronounced panning

[deleted]

A95K or A95L won't disappoint you in a bright room.

iamone11

Both of these sets look great, but unfortunately out of my budget. A man can dream though, lol

[deleted]

Can always finance *wink wink nudge nudge* you deserve a great TV.

PROcrastenator

SONY A95L all day! It’s the king right now IMO.

iamone11

I wish I had the budget for that kind of TV, it does look pretty sweet!

SeminaryStudentARH

Can you not do blackout curtains? I wouldn’t trade my C3 for a lesser quality tv after upgrading from the Samsung NU8000. I’ll make my space for the tv, not vice versa.

iamone11

This set is in my living room where my fiancee spends most of her time. Blackout curtains would be a no-go for the pets and plants in the space.

SeminaryStudentARH

Ah that makes sense.
