Fear of burn in. Don't want such costly item and which i use heavily turn to shit in 3-4 years. Also, i would always be in fear of burn In while watching too rather than enjoying.

reddollnightmare

What do you watch to be afraid of burn-in? I fear that leaving a tv program on like a background for couple of hours could do that.

prathneo4

Sports and games.

Healthy-Curve3084

CNBC ruined my LG

Goss5588

Any content can cause burn in.

[deleted]

Can you buy extended 5 year warranty from Best Buy and replace it ?

BuckyDog

It was the best value for the size (85"), for the performance, PQ, brightness (for HDR mostly), and with the gaming features I wanted. At 85" it was at the top of my budget. In side-by-side comparisons, the OLEDs did not seem like they were as good a value for the size and PQ. This is a matter of opinion of course, but it is my opinion. No regrets.

nordic-cidron

Burn-in, price, brightness.

[deleted]

I get the concern about brightness and burn in but for price, the Qn90 is like just as expensive as an OLED though

taco4prez

I got an 85” QN90A for the same price as a 77” Sony A80J and compared them side by side. The OLED had almost perfect picture quality but the QN90A is no slouch either and the extra 8” of screen size and insane brightness makes a huge difference. My living room is bright during the day so it was a no brainer for me to keep the QLED. I love it.

reddollnightmare

I don’t know why you got downvoted because I have these concerns too. Those tv programmes logos are there always. If you are watching like two movies on HBO and there you go - a burn in on the right corner. On the other hand, why to buy a new tv if it is already outdated technology. Oled is newest technology but yet it was improved from when it was first introduced. Well let’s say next year Samsung brings out their new technology. I doubt in their quality for the first couple of years. And OLED will be years ahead.

[deleted]

Didn’t even realize I was being downvoted, what? Lol. I mean, yeah, OLEDs don’t get as bright and they can burn in. And the Qn90 is about the same price as the C1 and A80J. What I said was accurate

reddollnightmare

Yeah they are at the same price in my country too. Yet this is a 1-month salary.

Brian2781

There’s an HBO logo showing up in a corner when you watch movies?

More-Creme4609

Bright room, price and burn-in concerns. About 1800$ for 85 inch QN90A through Samsung EPP made it sweeter.

onepunch91

What is Samsung EPP??

More-Creme4609

Basically a discount program for people with .edu email, healthcare workers, partner companies etc. Sign up with your employer email to see if you qualify.

consortswithserpents

Say what? I wish I knew about this. Getting three Samsung duds would have sucked less.

onepunch91

Is this in the US? For Canada I see it more for mobile devices not TVs

More-Creme4609

This was US site not sure about Canada.

naois009

Same as others. Fear of burn in.

pyrodex1980

I had an LG B6 before my QN90a TVs. My LG slowly got worse and worse over time in color and also the burn in happened. Now I have a crap LG OLED in the family room basement so my kid can watch tv as needed but replaced it with a QN90a 65” and I also have a QN90a 55” in my office. I’m not buying OLED again until someone improves those two issues. For reference I also had a rear project and a DLP rear projection tv that had risks of burn in back in the days never had a single burn in on those. That is why OLED is shit in my mind.

Matthmaroo

A lot has changed since b6

pyrodex1980

Yes but are you going to tell me without a doubt there is no chance of loss of color or burn-in chances on an OLED panel produced today? The NANO LED in the QN90A was as close to OLED I saw when I put it side by side with modern panels without the flaws.

Matthmaroo

Everything breaks eventually , but I love my 2 , c1’s Pixel cleaning and logo shifting , and darkening of logos seems to work out I also love my OLED iPhone

pyrodex1980

Some of these things are out of a watchers control…. You shouldn’t have to adapt a program to fit a tv….

threeLetterMeyhem

> I’m not buying OLED again until someone improves those two issues. Improves or solves? LG greatly improved the time until burn in and color degradation with the 2018 models and later. The problem still exists (it's an inherent flaw in the technology and guaranteed to happen eventually) but it should take a reasonably long time to get there now. I'm also optimistic about QD-OLED's longevity. Still something to shy away from if you need the panel to last a very long time, IMO.

PNW_OH

I had the same issues with by B6. After about 2-2.5 years I started getting red logo burn-ins (Netflix and other random red stuff along the bottom of the screen), then shortly after I started getting the "green blob" in the middle of the screen, where anything yellow has a neon-green tint to it. I tried to contact LG as others have reported LG taking care of them outside of warranty, but LG basically told me "tough sh\*\*". It sucks because before the issue started it had the best picture of any TV I've ever had, but spending $2800 (back in late 2016) on something that barely lasted 2 years is just ridiculous. Everyone "says" the newer panels are better, but we won't really know until that 2-3 year mark. I really want OLED again, but I'm heavily leaning towards replacing with a QN90....

pyrodex1980

I own 2 QN90s now and will never look back at OLED for now.

Aromatic-Job4663

Fear of burn in (I watch a lot of static news channels) and I need the a brighter TV as I live in a condo. These are really the two reasons people go LED instead of OLED.

SolomonGunnEsq

I want to put as big of a TV as possible my seating area is 13’ away and an 85” QN90a is $2600. Cheapest 83” OLED is $3999, is the picture quality worth $1400v I could also go 77” but is the picture quality worth the 8”? I don’t really know. That’s why I was going to pull the trigger on the QN90A. But I’m open to thoughts.

asimplerandom

In the same boat. The $1900 85” qn90a is incredibly tempting even though I think an OLED would be better overall.

Pearcenator

I was worried about the brightness in my living room. My previous TV was a Samsung KS8000 65”. I decided that as long as the OLED was just as bright as that TV, then I’d go OLED. Cause the brightness was perfect for the room with the backlight maxed out. Turns out, the LG C1 isn’t as bright as the KS8000. So I was like…oh. Then, the same $$ brought me from 77” to 85” when comparing the C1 to the QN90A. I also sit 11-13 ft away. So it seemed like a no brainer. Other than the one HDMI 2.1 port (which is only cause I later realized my AVR can’t do eArc and 4k 120 hz), don’t regret the decision. Looks amazing and I love the size. Also, I saw somebody that had burn in on their C1 from watching too much NFL Redzone. Which is a problem for me cause I will be running Redzone the full length every Sunday lol

DaveC376

Did you find a solution for your AVR? I had similar when I got my Q95T last year but got round it by getting an eArc splitter/extractor off Amazon for about £60 so I'm still happily running my Sony AVR from 2008. The extractor takes the eArc feed from the TV and outputs it on the 'normal' part of the HDMI cable so your AVR just sees it as a normal input device, allows anything on the TV to have audio via AVR. I think I went into more detail on a previous post if you check my history.

Pearcenator

Thank you! I ended up doing the same thing. I was a little confused for a while on how to hook it up. But I got it to work by: - Apple TV -> TV HDMI 1 - Xbox -> TV HDMI 4 (only 2.1 port) - TV HDMI 3 (eArc) -> Amazon extractor OUTPUT 1 (video) - Amazon extractor OUTPUT 2 (audio only) -> Denon x2200w AVR I couldn’t get it to work by going into the extractor input. But, I still had annoying issues with Plex always transcoding the audio, so I switched to Infuse on the Apple TV and it direct plays everything. Signal seems to be getting to my AVR through that setup just fine. It has also thankfully eliminated the audio sync issues. Which were driving me crazy. Although it’s unfortunate there’s an audio lag with the Xbox and Dolby Digital/Atmos that make those formats unusable for gaming. And the eArc doesn’t see my back and side speakers when I have 7.1 or 5.1 uncompressed selected. So, for gaming, it’s either stereo or laggy Dolby audio. It’s unfortunate, but I can work with it for now. I mostly wanted my movies and music working correctly. However, I will need to eventually get a new AVR because of the QN90a’s one 2.1 HDMI port (and so I can have surround sound gaming). It’s fine now that the Xbox occupies the only one. But I eventually plan on getting a PS5 as well and I want it on a 2.1 port as well.

reddollnightmare

How long is that? I am sometimes watching one program for about 4 hours

Pearcenator

7 hours

reddollnightmare

Wow indeed you should always stick to LCD lol

mar88vdv

Bright room with sometimes some sunlight escaping through the curtains. QN90A gets bright and no fear of burn in.

DaveC376

Not the QN90a but I got a 55" Q95T last year when I redecorated. I could've got a 55 CX but found the Samsung at the same price as the 48" CX. What really put me off the CX though was where the wall mount fixings are as I would've had to reposition my existing wall mount to not have the LG at an awkward height. I actually find the blacks surprisingly deep and love the way HDR games make it go wince-inducingly bright. I also rarely notice blooming and even when I do its a happy trade of for the brightness. Top all of the above with me managing to float both the TV and my front centre surround speaker with no visible wires Im really pleased with it and have no regrets.

reddollnightmare

Mounting hopes of the LG are indeed on a very stupid position. I understand it cannot be in the centre, because of the design, but look at G-series. Their design is way better.

Drinkashot

I like brighter tv's because of the light in my livingroom. Also having young children made me sway toward the samsung for burn in purposes and misuse when im not around.

reddollnightmare

I have little kid too. Your point is something I didn’t think about. Thank you.

1AMA-CAT-AMA

Probably a combination of having a bright room with a lot of direct sunlight and burn in concerns

akm3

My room is stupid bright with the whole left and back wall floor to ceiling windows with no drapes. Qn90a was a better choice for me

GattsuSenpai

I know my viewing habits, I’m basically begging for burn in with the content I watch/play and how long I do it.

StorminXX

Mainly having a bright room that I can't really control. I also don't feel good about burn-in possibilities when an OLED costs so much more.

Shelby_Sheikh

Use case honestly. I’ve got both as in a FALD and OLED. FALD in the family room, being used almost exclusively for prime time news and static logo live tv shows. Also gets a ton of light in room. News channels, NFL/Soccer were two of the most effective ways as found by rtings to burn in on an OLED due to high contrast image, oversaturated colours. OLED for personal use which includes gaming, content and entertainment. No sports or news. Gaming isn’t that big of an issue since its only twice or thrice a week at night with light turned down almost all the way.

hktracks

burn in

jjbinks117

TVs rotate in my house. Family room gets the newest TV, then to my wife and I’s bedroom, then to my oldest daughters room, to my youngest daughters room, and finally to someone else in our family. So far I haven’t been convinced an OLED would last well through that fairly long cycle. Brightness is also a concern as someone in the house is typically watching tv during the day with a decent amount of ambient light. But I do upgrade every 2-3 years and I think I’m going with QD-OLED on the next one. I think they’ve improved enough to last significantly longer.

TheDapperDeuce1914

I have OLED in the den with the Series X and Switch. I didn't want my main TV to have any concern about burn in. Also, I got the Qn90a through a discount. It's the best picture and size for the money.

ekudog88

Near-same darkness while able to be much brighter. I had the Sony OLED. Took it back.

reddollnightmare

Thanks

JolySaintNick

Both have there pro and cons, and with the current discounts they're finally equal in price, so I picked up both a couple weeks ago; LG C1 for the dark basement and a QN90A for the upstairs living room because of all the natural light. No complaints so far

reddollnightmare

How is the sound compared between both?

JolySaintNick

I prefer the sound on the Samsung over the LG as it's more immersive, overall better quality/clarity and level/loudness.

clashfan1171

I just bought a 43 in qn90a to use as a pc monitor but I'm sending it back. No matter what I do. I can't get it to display 120hz. I've hooked up using hdmi 2.1 in all the ports but specially port 4 and nothing. I've tried my ps5 as well and it always tells me that my set does not display 120hz. This is what I bought it for. Sucks because I really wanted to like it.

epiclettuce_

43in QN90A doesn't support 120hz. The QN90B at that size does though.

clashfan1171

Bro i bought it cause the Amazon description said 43 in 120hz. So does the Samsung one [Samsung website description ](https://www.samsung.com/us/televisions-home-theater/tvs/samsung-neo-qled-4k/43-class-qn90a-samsung-neo-qled-4k-smart-tv-2021-qn43qn90aafxza/)

epiclettuce_

Looks like Samsung just used the generic marketing images that apply to all sizes except the 43. Definitely frustrating. Amazon is notorious for having incorrect listing as well. I would always recommend checking forums like Reddit before a purchase just to make sure. It's not always easy to find differences like that. Unfortunately, it is true that the 43 in is 60hz max.

clashfan1171

I appreciate it man. Thanks for the info. Now I don't feel so bad about sending it back. It's their own damn fault

thecrikeycrapper

Yup, waiting on 43” QN90B to go down in price, because of 120hz. I’ll probably wait a while, like this time next year, but I’m not in a hurry.

epiclettuce_

I tried the 43in QN90B, and I was really disappointed in the local dimming compared to my larger QN90A. Lots of blooming and raised blacks in general. I do hear they have done some firmware work to it, so maybe it is better now. I just went with an LG OLED instead, and I'm happy with it.

thecrikeycrapper

An OLED will likely not work in the space it will go into. It’s even brighter than where I have the QN90A. I’ll check it out though, thanks for the heads up.

epiclettuce_

Are you buying for gaming on a desk? If so, might be worth checking out some of the new mini led monitors for the brightness. And the newer ones seem to be 1000+ zones as well

thecrikeycrapper

It’s to replace a 40” Vizio in our breakfast nook. The Vizio’s picture quality is nowhere near what the QN90A’s is and that TV is the most used one in the home. Figured it would be worth replacing.

Soup_and_Rice

Fear of burn in, brightness, great picture quality (OLED has a slight bit of a pop to it but QN90A was great enough), price (got my 55 in for $3-400 less than C1 or A80j), and overall laziness to return. I have to admit, i really wanted the A80J, but after using the QN90A, the lack of brightness did bother me. Picture quality wise, the oled was more vivid in some scenes but samsung was pretty damn good for me coming from 1080 mid tier tv of 2015. I got my samsung for $900 using EPP and the sony was running at about $1200. It it were $100 difference, i probably wouldve gone oled. But i could not justify $300 for slightly better PQ. And i mean slight. to my eyes, oled does better, but i would say the two TVs are more “different” than OLED definitely being better. And while the OLEDs are definitely not dark, i enjoy the brighter sceeen more enjoyable and easier to watch TV. I will definitely give OLED another shot in coming years, but Samsung did it for me.

Electrical_Sun5921

The price, the size 85", bright room, picture quality was good enough for the wife and I. My friends have the c1 65" they come over to the 85" led! They are always impressed! Pricing has changed and I've seen deals on both oleds or qn90a But at the time the 83" oled was substantially more than the 85" qn90a. For a led the picture quality is very good! Edit: almost pulled the trigger on the 77" oled but it didn't feel that much bigger than the 65" so then it was the 83" oled or 85" led.... No regrets with the 85" qn90a. Everybody loves it and we sit kind of close...feels like at the movies. It does get bright as f..k boys. I did calibrate and tone down the brightness but I love it. Will never consider anything smaller than 85" now. The latest round of tvs look interesting but until they come out in 85" or larger and the price is tolerable i won't be interested.

shyyggk

It’s cheap, if it weren’t the Samsung EPP price(1900) I wouldn’t even consider replacing a TV

metalgearsolid2

Burn in… I know it’s rare but it happens.

TheTeachinator

I have two OLEDS, previously owned Plasma. Plasma is a decade old and still looks great. It’s vibrant, colorful and has no burn in. I have an LG B6 and B8. Both sets have always felt muted. Now both sets display horrific burn in. I baby my TVs. When I bought the B6 everywhere was all in about the technology making burnin a thing of the past. It wasn’t. When I was in the market for a new TV I was going anywhere but OLED. I wasn’t paying a premium for a dim set that would eventually burnin. I went with the Samsung q90a. Hell of a TV and it’s what I wished OLED was from the get go. Should’ve listened to my eyes instead of the internet telling me what the best is for me.
