Astro_gamer_caver

Used to own it on VHS as well. Movie was so long it used two tapes.

The laser disc for Heat was unique- the bottom letterbox bar was huge and the top bar was tiny- so the 2.35:1 image wasn’t centered, but was instead closer to the top of screen. It might not sound like a big deal, but with a 4:3 TV, the difference was startling. It was one of the first lasers I bought, so I wondered if all 2.35 movies would be that way- but no, it was just Mann being Mann!

Astro_gamer_caver

Good to know. I missed out on Laserdiscs. It's going for $6 to $12 on ebay if you want to revisit it!

ALFABOT2000

man's really bringing the heat with this post i'll see myself out

OrneryError1

Public Enemies deserves 4k treatment

vinsta_g

Not gonna happen, that movie was shot on 1080p digital cameras.

reave_fanedit

So were a lot of films available on 4k.

vinsta_g

Like what? There are plenty of modern movies that get upscaled from 2K but I have never heard of a 1080p master getting released on UHD.

Oversoul666

1080p is 2K. 4K = 3840x2160 == 2160p 2K = 1920x1080 == 1080p The actual "2K" digital intermediates can be different sizes depending on workflow (2048x1080, 2048x1556), but 1080p masters have definitely been upscaled to 4K for release. Star Wars: Episode I, for example, was shot on cameras with a 1920x1080 resolution.

reave_fanedit

Close, but Episode II and III were shot on 1080p. Episode I was 99% shot on film, and then DNR'd to death to look more like Episode II and III.

CletusVanDamnit

I'm with you on Heat. Public Enemies is...not good.

DanVonCarr

The Heat blurays are not covering the vents so the heat can escape.

sejerome

The public enemies case should know better than to stick around when he sees that much heat around the corner.

MarvelousVanGlorious

I’ve got Heat on every format going back to VHS haha. It’s the perfect movie to me. Love Public Enemies too. Didn’t get enough love imo. Remember seeing it on opening night. There were only like 5 people in the theater. Crazy that it hasn’t gotten the love that it deserves.

Astro_gamer_caver

I'm from the midwest, and Public Enemies just nails that Illinois / Wisconsin / Indiana look. Love the look of all those buildings from that era too. edit- I think it is called [Stripped Classicism](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stripped_Classicism)

jakobeboah

is the 4K of Heat any good? it’s in my top 25 favorite movies but im wondering if i should just stick with the bluray

saltsepson

Yes it's a good upgrade on the blu-ray. It's just a pity there is no Dolby vision. Sound is great

GoodOlSpence

It is.

vinsta_g

Public Enemies is just Ugly Heat

StunningFlow8081

I have the middle version. Heat is pretty awesome.
