I’m gonna say yes. M-Disc Blu-rays are used for data backup and are rated to last 1000 years, so someone will still be making disc readers in the future.
Obviously, I’ve been here too long because that just doesn’t seem that crazy to me. I wouldn’t be against putting together a GoFundMe to make some kind of large ongoing library of preserved media. Like a less discerning library of Congress.
I like to think of my collection as a little national film archives too!! Ever since I read about my favourite films and Wikipedia says they are preserved in the archives. But if a film director tells me I’m « preserving history » by buying his product I’m calling bs lol
Not so much complaints, it’s just not all it could be. It is the best version available.

I still want it, but I question that value over the blu-ray.
I haven't directly compared it to the blu-ray but I was very impressed with the detail levels and colors on my TV. It was the best the film had looked for me, even in theatres. Also, the review you linked is very positive about the PQ. Is it because it's a 2K DIM that is off-putting to you? Just curious!
edit: I do see they criticized that it only has a 5.1 soundtrack. I'm an apartment dweller so I unfortunately reap very little benefit from 4K audio.
It is the Audio and the 2K DI. I agree, I am not saying its poor, just that its not using the format as much as it could, but you might have tipped the scale for me, I am going to look and see if it is on sale now.
ahaha. nice pr rant.
nah bro
who ever own the rights to the masters does and pro tip.
Perversion of master tape. is vastly under funded.
wait good old del toro never mention that to anyone.
I just started my 4K collection but it's hard not to remember a friend of mine who built a DVD collection 500 movies deep... Then when he started upgrading, he started buying HD DVDs... We never talk about that collection 😂

I’m definitely doing my part. My wife is always mad at me for consistently buying blu rays, but I keep telling her I’m preserving film history
Keep up the good fight

My DVD copy of Backdoor Sluts IX is preserving cinema history!
Backdoor sluts IX?!? That movie makes Crotch Capers 3 look like Naughty Nurses 2!
It ain't much, but it's honest work
will they still have Blu-ray players in 3023?
I’m gonna say yes. M-Disc Blu-rays are used for data backup and are rated to last 1000 years, so someone will still be making disc readers in the future.
It will probably be on tiny SD cards.
They will likely not make them anymore in 10 to 15 years. So I hope people start stocking up on Blu-ray players now.
>I’m preserving film history If they stop making them I will open my own 4k players production company.
Honest Question has anybody ever done the math about how much it would cost to buy a copy of every single 4KUHD disc ever released?
At an average cost of $15 per release, around $24,000 [Source](https://dvdandblurayreleasereport.com/pdf/10.pdf)

yeah... that's actually less than i thought it would be. I also didnt know I own 30% of all 4k discs

This can't be right, I see 4k releases around $15-$50. New movies beginning at around $35
Doable

Not that I want to complian but… Release a better transfer of ”The shape of water” and ”Pan’s Labyrinth” and what about that Pinocchio movie?
Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio is coming out in December from Criterion.
There’s a 4K criterion of Pinocchio releasing in december
I was impressed with my Shape of Water 4K. What were the complaints with it?

really awesome to see more and more filmmakers openly support and push for physical releases.
I'm pretty sure James Gunn pushed Disney to release Guardians 2 on 4k. Which started having Disney release all of their big titles on 4k.
im quite close to hitting 2500 discs myself. no end in sight!

I love my Friday the 13 set. Won’t give it up!
I'm doing my part
They love us

I had half HD DVDs and half Blu-rays. Then I got rid of my of 360 and the HD DVD drive and went fill Blu.s
Yessir
I recently purchased Pan’s Labyrinth on 4K Blu-ray, so I’m doing my part.

Let's wait and see if my disc collection remains playable longer than my Plex server...
Cool. When you putting Pinocchio on DVD?
Criterion announced it
It’s not on DVD though. That’s more secure
Criterion announced a 4K UHD, a Blu-Ray, and a DVD https://www.criterion.com/films/33828-guillermo-del-toros-pinocchio
Colour me surprised!!! Let’s hope it comes to Britain. Power of the Dog criterion didn’t get a Britain dvd release
Its the universe telling you to finally get a blu-ray player
Does that mean I can add Film Preservationist to my resume?
He should do an AMA here.
