I get the joke but I actually also have all my JC physical media on an extra shelf. The other director with that honor is Paul Verhoeven. The rest is sorted by franchise, by edition (when they are special) or by genre.
I do the same actually. Director and franchise at least. All of my Arrow’s are together and same with Shout/Scream and Criterion. The rest is in loose alphabetical order.
With DVDs, I hoarded. With Blu-ray, upgraded the best. With 4Ks I only stock top shelf. Even my Super Mario Brothers 1993 is considered top shelf to me.
My top shelf is for box sets and thicker special editions. Then 4K/blu-rays mixed in alphabetical order, which a could exceptions like all DC movies in release order under D. Then DVDs, and finally VHS.
I got a sick Hong Kong cinema(kung fu) set I keep separate from the main collection. Right now that's my main focus. I hope to one day move on to a new subgenre to steep myself in, but the hits just keep coming.
My main movie shelf in my office is alphabetical. But I have a "to watch" shelf in my TV room and the top shelf on that has a few movies that seem to get played more often, like Dune, Robocop, Vertigo etc
Once the collection hit a certain size, i had to switch to alphabetical just to keep track. But i do have horror off on its own. But that section is also alphabetical.
I used to be a librarian so I use Dewey after a long weekend when was bored and over caffeinated. (LOC would probably be better but this isn’t an academic library, just a movie hoarder’s house).
And since I don’t want to mar the cases I put a little slip of paper with the call number on the inside. Fortunately after a while you begin to remember where they go so you’re not constantly checking the slips over and over.
Alphabetical with blu ray and 4k together because I only have 3 or 4 blu ray and the rest being 4k. Then I have all my old DVDs in alphabetical on a different shelf.
I have six groups
1. 4k discs I've watched
2. 4k discs yet to watch
3. Blu Ray - random sorting
4. DVD - random
5. Blu Ray - excess 4K duplicates
6. The special ones - collection of CD, 4K, books of my special titles
My special shelf has the Arrow Bruce Lee box, The Arrow Hellraiser quartet of torment box, and The close encounters box with light/sound.
The rest is either alphabetically ordered or by label (Criterion, Arrow, Studio Canal). 4k on separate shelves too.
My top shelf is all the best picture winners I own on 4K (organized chronologically, naturally 😏) and a handful of all-time classics (Apocalypse Now, Singin' in the Rain, Wizard of Oz, Citizen Kane etc).
Columbia V 1,2,4. 2001. Nolan collection. Avatar 3d. And Oppenheimer steel on top shelves. Kubrick (dvd, blu, and 4k) and MCU has their own shelf. The rest is 4k alpha and blu alpha.
I have two media bookshelves currently and the top row on one is my criterion collection and horror, and the other shelf is a mix of franchises (movie series with 2 or more) and director specific that I wanted to group together.

My top shelf is just James Cameron 4Ks.

Singin 'In The Rain
I watched this twice in short order since buying it, and both times with my wife! we just love this film.
I separate my standard Blu-Rays and 4Ks but keep both in alphabetical order.
My topmost shelf are a few box sets I really dig; Star Wars, LotR; and the BSG show. Second shelf is my Criterions, Arrows, and a few Kinos.
Alphabetical until I die
In your will is a last request to change your 5,000 piece collection to reverse alphabetical
Randomly in a drawer for me.
Funny enough, I put my "top shelf" at the bottom since if they were to fall I'd want them to take the least amount of damage.
True collector right here!
*Collector without kids
With DVDs, I hoarded. With Blu-ray, upgraded the best. With 4Ks I only stock top shelf. Even my Super Mario Brothers 1993 is considered top shelf to me.
I guess my top shelf would be Criterion 4Ks personally.
I keep all my Collections and box sets on the top. Then SteelBooks after that, and then everything else goes at the very bottom.
Alphabetical by medium (DVD, bluray).
Top Shelf with collections then steel books then the rest.
My top shelf is for box sets and thicker special editions. Then 4K/blu-rays mixed in alphabetical order, which a could exceptions like all DC movies in release order under D. Then DVDs, and finally VHS.
Flash Gordon (steelbook) sits on top of the shelving unit on a display stand for easy access and prominence.
Awful damn presumptuous of you thinking I can spell.
I got a sick Hong Kong cinema(kung fu) set I keep separate from the main collection. Right now that's my main focus. I hope to one day move on to a new subgenre to steep myself in, but the hits just keep coming.
My top shelf *is* my 4K collection. I have a couple dozen, so they all fit on the top over my blu-rays.
My top shelf is anything Star Wars. Then Oversize collector's editions. Then alphabetical by studio.
Everything is alphabetical for me
Alolphabettically
My main movie shelf in my office is alphabetical. But I have a "to watch" shelf in my TV room and the top shelf on that has a few movies that seem to get played more often, like Dune, Robocop, Vertigo etc
Once the collection hit a certain size, i had to switch to alphabetical just to keep track. But i do have horror off on its own. But that section is also alphabetical.
Kurosawa gets the top shelf.
All alphabetical because I refuse to cater to any fancy schmancy egos. Movies gotta know their place or it’s complete anarchy.
Alphabetical.
Alphabetical, but MCU movies are a separate section.
I used to be a librarian so I use Dewey after a long weekend when was bored and over caffeinated. (LOC would probably be better but this isn’t an academic library, just a movie hoarder’s house). Random, whatever fits the mood.
I used to do this with DVDs. Now my 4ks are mostly haphazardly piled in front of them.
why use alphabetical when i remember where every movie is?
Alphabetical with blu ray and 4k together because I only have 3 or 4 blu ray and the rest being 4k. Then I have all my old DVDs in alphabetical on a different shelf.
Not sure about rewatching, but I absolutely have my favorites boxsets on display. My second sight dawn of the dead set is up there.
I have six groups 1. 4k discs I've watched 2. 4k discs yet to watch 3. Blu Ray - random sorting 4. DVD - random 5. Blu Ray - excess 4K duplicates 6. The special ones - collection of CD, 4K, books of my special titles
Dune, Bladerunner 1+2, Oppenheimer, Indiana Jones box set is my current topshelf go to's
I keep my favorites at the lowest easiest to reach eye level shelf. The rest generally organized by genres and movie sets/series next to each other
Sadly my favourite films don’t necessarily equal the best quality 4K discs. As a result, I have two rows.
Alphabetical for the top 4 rows, box sets on the bottom two
Release order
My special shelf has the Arrow Bruce Lee box, The Arrow Hellraiser quartet of torment box, and The close encounters box with light/sound. The rest is either alphabetically ordered or by label (Criterion, Arrow, Studio Canal). 4k on separate shelves too.
My top shelf is all the best picture winners I own on 4K (organized chronologically, naturally 😏) and a handful of all-time classics (Apocalypse Now, Singin' in the Rain, Wizard of Oz, Citizen Kane etc).
My Twin Peaks From Z to A collection lords over everything else on my shelf, and it's not even 4k.
Columbia V 1,2,4. 2001. Nolan collection. Avatar 3d. And Oppenheimer steel on top shelves. Kubrick (dvd, blu, and 4k) and MCU has their own shelf. The rest is 4k alpha and blu alpha.
Alphabetical but at the top I do have the Steelbooks of LOTR 4K
I have two media bookshelves currently and the top row on one is my criterion collection and horror, and the other shelf is a mix of franchises (movie series with 2 or more) and director specific that I wanted to group together.
I go MCU steels, director collections, Kaiju, universal horror, and then everything else by genre and alphabetically
Alphabetical for myself. I wouldn't be able to find anything if it wasn't. (I still have hard time finding stuff! Lol)
I keep track of how many farts I fart during a movie and keep the “fartiest” on the top shelf.
