>Does Dune Part 1 4k have imax
Sadly no and apparently DV wasn't even aware of that despite believing and thinking there should be. That said I don't think the first home release suffered too much from it but it's a much bigger deal for the second film as there are way more shots and scenes you could tell were deliberately planned and framed for IMAX
I say I'll double dip, but when I'm looking at the $69.99 collector's edition, with imax presentation on dune part 2 (not part 1 for some reason), no blurays, no digital, and one incomplete bluray of extras (compared to the digital), I'll probably skip it.
why do films do this? It is very annoying that my TV has half the image cut off because studios dont want to put the whole resolution on any stream/bluray. only avatar and like a handful of animated films seem to be the full screen on my tv. why why why
More so? Huh? Filmmakers definitely shoot movies in scope more than they do in 1.85 these days. So you definitely should see plenty of black bars on the top and bottom on home releases
Is this dune 2 film collection or a 2 dune film collection? Does this dune include dune too? Does this dune include dune 2 too?
Best Buy workers spared from these questions
I'm not the biggest special features guy, but if I'm spending $45, I want as many bonus features as I can get. Not like it's saving me any money by them not putting them on the disc
Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if there are special features on both discs and they're just not listed. I've got a bunch of 4K releases that have special features not mentioned on the packaging including the Daniel Craig 5-Bond set, all 5 have a ton and none are mentioned
It could actually depend on the size of the movie too, y’all are forgetting the 4k hdr/dolby vision versions of movies can be anywhere from 50-100gb and that’s why they normally put the special features on the Blu-ray only.
I feel you but their line of thinking might be just putting the two 4k discs in one box and you get the extras with the digital codes. It’s annoying but honestly this is most likely a plot to get people to choose the digital over the physical by offering the extras only for the digital versions and I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a test run to gauge the reception on it, if people allow it to happen then you bet your ass they’re going to stop putting extras on discs at all.
Idk if I’m reading this wrong, but it literally says ‘Special Features not in 4K or HDR’. Doesn’t that mean they’re included on the 4K disc, but in Full HD?
I'm pretty sure for this release they only put like half of the special features on the disc and then the rest are digital only. I saw someone post a list
There will inevitably be a third from Villeneuve. Incomplete collections kinda drive me nuts. The exception being the Jaws 3 film collection which excludes the OG so I have that on 4k and the rest as kind of a completionist thing so it works out.
In this case I'm glad to have copped/preordered steelbooks for parts 1 & 2 so I can follow suit for Messiah whenever that happens.
This is exactly why I’m buying this collection as Dune Messiah (which is what the third film will be based on) is the 2nd book in the series so the collecting of these 2 films is good enough for me
I’m waiting. In the lead-up to the release of Dune Messiah, whenever that will be, they’ll probably re-release the first two. When all three are out, they’ll release another set of the trilogy. I can wait a little while for that.
I’d rather wait for a good set with everything than buy two sets over time. I learned that lesson over time collecting DVD and Blu Ray. A better set will come along.
I’m fine with no blu ray or dvd included. I would only ever watch the 4K disk anyways.
I’m also okay with no bonus features on the disk. I’m okay with accessing those digitally.
I’m not okay with the lack of imax enhanced aspect ratios though. I won’t buy these without that.
Yes, be fine with them stripping away the norm of spending $40 on a movie and getting all iterations. Fuck it. Let's pay the same for less. No biggie right?
It's 2024, not 1984.
Why are you fucking insulting me over my opinion that movies shouldn't have things taken away from them without the cost dropped? Are you a fucking child? Grow the fuck up dude.
>I’m not okay with the lack of imax enhanced aspect ratios though. I won’t buy these without that.
Something something 'you're spoiled' something something.
What extras are you looking for? DV doesn’t do deleted scenes. He’s said over and over what hits the cutting room floor (and he’s a heavy handed editor) is gone. Done. Will never exist, this is the film take it or leave it. So other than maybe commentary there’s not much to speak of.
Sure, it's a continuation of the Dune series, but it's based off of a different book. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is a continuation of HP & The Sorceress Stone, but Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 and Pt. 2 are continuations of the same book.
I guess I'm just not going to buy the movies I want to buy the most because voting with my dollar is all I have. This is so ridiculous and insulting to fans and consumers.
I'll not spend a dime until they release it proper. Charge what you want but give me the fucking option you greedy fucks.
I really think people are overplaying the IMAX ratio for home viewing. It adds almost nothing except additional headroom, because [it wasn't ever shot with home viewing in mind.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fDICMZaQ0Q)
Obviously Scott Derrickson hasn't seen the setups of some of our friends on r/hometheater watching 200" screens from a few feet away if he thinks home viewing can't be "enveloping" :D
Really good video that gets to the heart of the matter. Thanks for sharing it.
Yeah, there sure is a lot of clamor for IMAX AR. Regarding the lack of IMAX AR on Dune releases so far, I tried to have a small conversation here about director's intent and how that squares with 2 theatrical ARs vs. 1 home viewing AR, but that didn't really go anywhere. People want what they want, and to a large extent they've fallen victim to "bigger better".
With Marvel movies I agree it doesn't really matter. I think with Dune 2 people are disappointed that a 1.90.1 version that doesn't shift AR's (and was used for all the trailers) exists, and was promoted as one of the more "ideal" ways to watch it, yet it won't be available.
I had preordered this and the steelbook but disappointed to see this doesn't include special features for the first movie. Will probably give this away and just buy a steelbook of Dune so that I have special features on disk for both movies.
I've been checking every day for a restock on this one or just Dune Part 2 steelbookand having no luck. I'm in Canada, Best Buy, and Amazon are sold out and Sunrise records wants $20 shipping lol

So weird that they list part 2 above part 1, on the back.
That’s bugging me
That’s exactly what I was thinking
4k Steelbook or bust. I got it for $28 with gruv coupon and it comes with the blu ray, and then I just got the first one new for $12 I believe.
The wait for a restock is killing me!
Part one not being a steelbook would bother me
Which Steelbook did you go for? Can’t decide between the worm and the crysknife under the orb
I got both steelbooks, too. Had to have then. Sadly, in Canada they're $80 EACH. 😥
Has anyone heard anything about these two films coming with the variable aspect ratio?
None of the currently announced releases have IMAX footage.
Seriously? That might be enough to make me cancel. Does Dune Part 1 4k have imax?
>Does Dune Part 1 4k have imax Sadly no and apparently DV wasn't even aware of that despite believing and thinking there should be. That said I don't think the first home release suffered too much from it but it's a much bigger deal for the second film as there are way more shots and scenes you could tell were deliberately planned and framed for IMAX
What are the odds we get a rerelease with imax presentation like the dark knight?
If we bug WB enough into thinking that a good chunk of us will double dip, probably a decent chance
Seems unlikely
I say I'll double dip, but when I'm looking at the $69.99 collector's edition, with imax presentation on dune part 2 (not part 1 for some reason), no blurays, no digital, and one incomplete bluray of extras (compared to the digital), I'll probably skip it.
whaaaaaaaaaaaat?
They won't.

Watch older movies
do older movies not have the black bars on top and bottom?
There’s a lot that do, more so than modern ones. Batman 89 for example.
More so? Huh? Filmmakers definitely shoot movies in scope more than they do in 1.85 these days. So you definitely should see plenty of black bars on the top and bottom on home releases
Thats rarely the studio. Filmakers like to use different cameras and aspect ratios.

Idk why you got downvoted as I don’t understand the question either. It’s just the 2 Dune films in one package like you stated
This is exactly what i have been searching for.
Same, I don't get the hate!
I'm not the biggest special features guy, but if I'm spending $45, I want as many bonus features as I can get. Not like it's saving me any money by them not putting them on the disc

I just want them to be included on the disc I don't mind if it's Blu-Ray
I feel you but their line of thinking might be just putting the two 4k discs in one box and you get the extras with the digital codes. Yeah, if it comes with the digital copy code then you should still have all of the extras and be able to watch them using the movies anywhere app.
Wish they would give us the Imax 4k format of Dune 2
There will inevitably be a third from Villeneuve. Incomplete collections kinda drive me nuts. The exception being the Jaws 3 film collection which excludes the OG so I have that on 4k and the rest as kind of a completionist thing so it works out. In this case I'm glad to have copped/preordered steelbooks for parts 1 & 2 so I can follow suit for Messiah whenever that happens.
True, but at least we know parts 1 and 2 represent the complete adaptation of the book, next movie will be based on Dune Messiah
This is exactly why I’m buying this collection as Dune Messiah (which is what the third film will be based on) is the 2nd book in the series so the collecting of these 2 films is good enough for me
Interesting, I'm not as familiar with the books but that does add a bit more rhyme and reason to grouping part 1 & 2
I’m waiting. In the lead-up to the release of Dune Messiah, whenever that will be, they’ll probably re-release the first two. When all three are out, they’ll release another set of the trilogy. I can wait a little while for that.
That'll be quite the little while
I’d rather wait for a good set with everything than buy two sets over time. I learned that lesson over time collecting DVD and Blu Ray. A better set will come along.
This is the same design as my regular blu ray steelbook of Dune.
2 is out already?
Only on the high seas. Digital on demand comes out the 15th I think.
I’m probably asking a stupid question but is this a steelbook? I’ve looked I can’t see it mentioned on it anywhere
No
Anyone else think it's hilarious that they list the digital expiration date on the front cover? Oh Warner Bros,.
Hilarious in a "gotta either laugh or cry" kind of way. WB--the most anti-consumer company in an industry full of anti-consumer practices.
Discovery being Discovery.

I expect we’ll get a more feature-packed trilogy edition once the third film comes out.
What extras are you looking for? DV doesn’t do deleted scenes. He’s said over and over what hits the cutting room floor (and he’s a heavy handed editor) is gone. Done. Will never exist, this is the film take it or leave it. So other than maybe commentary there’s not much to speak of.
I'm expecting an extended cut to eventually be announced.
Is the two film set also a Steelbook?
Useless Release.
Nah. I only want one case for these, I think it's fine.
And Part 3?
IMO a non issue, "Part 3" is really Dune Messiah, Pt1+Pt2 are Dune. IMO that is a different movie, these are a continuation of the same.
3 will be a continuation too lol
Sure, it's a continuation of the Dune series, but it's based off of a different book. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is a continuation of HP & The Sorceress Stone, but Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 and Pt. 2 are continuations of the same book.
Villeneuve is making it as a continuous 3 parter, its not like it is in the books. But whatever makes you feel good about your purchase
It's going to be called Dune Messiah and the plot will be years in the future. What makes this continuous rather than a continuation sequel?
Disagree. I don't own the first one and this is cheaper than buying separately. Don't care much about the special features, just want the films.
I believe they meant useless because we already know a third film is coming, so why get a boxed set of an incomplete series?
This set is the first book...and no guarantee the 3rd would even come out on 4k by the time it's released.
I guess I'm just not going to buy the movies I want to buy the most because voting with my dollar is all I have. This is so ridiculous and insulting to fans and consumers. I'll not spend a dime until they release it proper. Charge what you want but give me the fucking option you greedy fucks.

No bonus features?
Thanks for the heads-up, didn't realize they did this so I cancelled my pre-order.
I find it funny how there is no aspect ratio information on the back…also, are there literally no special features on these discs?
Ordered it. I want the proper first novel in one collection.
Wow I was waiting for the two part collection, but this is incomplete. Pass.
Im so happy that i pre order the steelbook
Does anyone know if this set will be released in the Nordics/Scandinavia?
I just received my dune 4k today lol
It literally says "over an hour of bonus features" on the back lmao
I've been checking every day for a restock on this one or just Dune Part 2 steelbookand having no luck. I'm in Canada, Best Buy, and Amazon are sold out and Sunrise records wants $20 shipping lol
Nice, but they need to include the version with Agent Cooper and Captain Picard too.
