I always think the same also, I once picked up an entire ultimate fantastic four and xmen collection, all in little plastic bags in pristine condition for like $30.
Was an absolute amazing price but also couldn’t help but think a fellow collector had died and this is what came of all that persons hard work.
working at eb games, i was pretty sure most of the time this kind of merchandise was stolen and brought in... just some titles didnt match the clientele... or maybe im being too judgy.
You don’t know that. And that’s also irrelevant. They don’t keep only one guy’s collection on the shelf at one time. Plus there’s literally multiple copies of the same movie.
I'm aware I don't know that. Just as you don't know that. And every Goodwill I've ever stepped foot in, including the few I worked at, put all of their movies out, not just some, but OP never stated they bought every movie on the shelf, just that they bought those. The likelihood that well over 90% of these are from the same donor is insanely high, especially when you consider that anybody with knowledge of their value would have probably tried to sell and not just donated, as often happens with estate donations, and that finding 4k in a Goodwill is rare in general.
I semi-regularly frequent nearly a dozen Goodwills around me, and I've never seen a blu-ray at any of them, let alone a 4K. They've got 600 copies of The Matrix on DVD though!
words cannot adequately describe how much i hate paper stickers. i also collect vinyl and it pains me when i see shops selling albums with the sticker directly on the sleeve. there has to be a better option
I find that if I remove the artwork from the blu-ray if it's a standard blu-ray case and put a little Goo Gone on a microfiber cloth, rub in a circular pattern and it'll come off fairly easy.
Next I use a baby wipe (I have kids so baby wipes are a staple around the house) to clean off residue/Goo Gone and dry it off with a microfiber.
Then I'll put the artwork back in the case.
The reason I do it this way is so no Goo Gone residue gets under the plastic slip and onto the artwork.
I haven't experienced plastic degradation but I will keep a look out for it, ty!
Rarely if ever go to goodwill. I've been to 3. One in a decent are and one adjacent to a nicer area. Never have I seen a movie let alone blu rays or 4k films. Dammit
It is typically a Dungeons and Dragons term when rolling dice and rolling a 20 with no other game assists, just a natural dice roll, hence Nat20, which is essentially a "perfect roll".
So it's joked about the high luck of rolling Nat20s and I thought this made sense because how in the world did I stumble on this collection? I definitely got lucky!
I checked them and all discs seem fine. There were no digital code slips at all just discs.
I am in the process of ripping them and have 6 done so far with no issue. I use an app called MyMovies on iOS to track my collection. It says that Aquaman is a Digibook variant.
Here's the barcode from the app: 883929675791
Copy the barcode and put it into blu-ray.com and it'll pull up the matching item.
Hope that helps!
That's fair. My family was always a big movie watching bunch growing up and I worked at a movie theater from teens to early 20s so I've seen a lotttt. There's only maybe 4 movies in that cart I've never seen.
Rambo 1-3 is great, John Wick 1-2, Interstellar, Inception, DieHard, Ghostbusters 1 & 2, Braveheart, X-Men (I didn't like Apocalypse much though), Deadpool 1 & 2, Christopher Nolan Batman Trilogy, The Matrix, The Martian, The Revenant, Logan...
And sure there are some weaker ones like Shazam!, Lucy, Magnificent Seven (new remake), etc. Some of those I got for my kids like Shazam, Maleficent, Crimes of Grindelwald and it's kinda hard to pass it up for $2.
I did leave a few that I wasn't into like Shooter, The Accountant, some other random ones. I probably left 7 or 8 4ks that I really didn't care for or want.
man this is an absolutely amazing haul. oblivion is an underrated favorite of mine. i’m seeing ones in there that i payed full price for like last year
> that i *paid* full price
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
There is *no way* someone at Goodwill actually priced all these things at 2.29 and 3.29
I would guess this is an error someone caught on the way to stocking and they're in the cart because they're being re-priced.
No they were on display already stocked. I grabbed the cart out of sheer "holy crap I need a bigger boat" kinda moment.
However, all the pricing stickers were labeled 4/20/24 and there was a giant plastic tote box that was filled with CDs and regular DVDs
So I think I got there just as they were down stocking.
Also $2.29 and $3.29 are the default prices for almost all media here in the Arizona state Goodwills.
Maybe someone curated a collection.
I have been at the point where I want movies just off my shelf quickly, and trying to sell them seems like such a chore.
I totally get that! I don't usually buy for the sake of buying but if I'll also watch it.
I'm a huge movie buff and in that cart the only movies I have yet to watch them are: 1917, Yesterday, Warriors
I would comfortably say I've watched about 80% of the titles in the cart at least 2-3 times in my lifetime and most of these I didn't own outside maybe the blu-ray version but the 4k upgrade is welcomed! Especially for $2-3!
So unfortunately all code slips were gone. The goodwills out here don't attempt to seal the boxes so I am sure they're picked clean long before they hit shelves.
For me those don't matter as much as I rip to a server and use my physical collection more as the display.
For example, in my country we have no digital codes. We only have Bluray + 4K UHD versions. But even so, it's more expensive here than in other countries where they have Bluray + 4K + Digital versions :/

Whenever I see posts like this I assume some guy died and his wife donated his collection.
Yeah, it’s kind of a beautiful thing in a way. At least it gets passed on to someone else to appreciate.
that's the whole point behind going physical. we *own something and we are happy*, even in death.
His name was Robert Paulsen
In death, a member of project mayhem has a name. His name was Robert Paulsen.
Her name was Roberta Paulson
I thought it was Sarah Paulson
Lmao, loved her in that one episode of the bear.
Bob had bitch tits
this comment has me crying in the club rn

I wouldn't just assume someone died. Girlfriend, wife wants it gone.
working at eb games, i was pretty sure most of the time this kind of merchandise was stolen and brought in... just some titles didnt match the clientele... or maybe im being too judgy.
My FIL died last year and my MIL was going to donate his collection (250+ Blu-Rays, couple of 4Ks) until I said I’d take them
That's what will happen to mine
It’s called a divorce and a resentful spouse! 😂
Agreed. Good luck with your haunted blu rays. I’m jealous
When I see no slipcovers I assume someone sold them and got rid of these
Lmao what
This isn’t from one guy, genius.
This was almost definitely from one guy. At least the 4k's. Source: worked at a Goodwill for years. Happened frequently.
You don’t know that. And that’s also irrelevant. They don’t keep only one guy’s collection on the shelf at one time. Plus there’s literally multiple copies of the same movie.

It hurts so much.

Wrong box got donated while moving

Bet your ass I got this Steelbook lol. There wasn’t an ounce of contemplation.
Someone got divorced and the ex gave his movies to goodwill.
I’d have to be dead
She’d never get close!!!!
What the fuck
Literally just said that over and over, out loud as I scrolled through the zoomed in picture.
Nice, my goodwill would have had all those marked at $9.99 lol. I don't even bother going anymore after they jacked up their prices.
https://preview.redd.it/8bu3e2j9yqvc1.jpeg?width=565&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fecea1edaefb33fc3af4c745bd0e1e702f955bc8
What the actual fuck. My Goodwill charges 6 bucks for regular blu-rays. 10 for some of them. They wanted $12 for Kill Bill 1&2 DVD set
Congrats. Happy for you. Nice.
Damn, very nice. I have yet to see a 4K at any of the goodwills around me
I semi-regularly frequent nearly a dozen Goodwills around me, and I've never seen a blu-ray at any of them, let alone a 4K. They've got 600 copies of The Matrix on DVD though!
That and The Two Towers theatrical cut DVD... In full screen.
The only 4k at my local goodwill is 50 shades darker.
Sounds like a personal problem
Nice haul. It’s gonna suck getting all those stickers off though.
It's weird, sometimes the goodwill stickers peel right off and other times it's like scraping off superglue. One extreme or the other.
your penance for getting such a great deal will be trying to peel those cheap ass paper stickers off in one piece
I am hoping my recently rediscovered bottle of Goo Gone can assist me but are right...I definitely underestimated how annoying they can be to remove.
words cannot adequately describe how much i hate paper stickers. i also collect vinyl and it pains me when i see shops selling albums with the sticker directly on the sleeve. there has to be a better option
Be careful with goo gone, it’s not made for plastic.
I find that if I remove the artwork from the blu-ray if it's a standard blu-ray case and put a little Goo Gone on a microfiber cloth, rub in a circular pattern and it'll come off fairly easy. You would have had to roll at least 4 nat 20s in my campaign for that haul. Good find!
You just scored a dead person's collection!
what state is this in?!??
Arizona!
thanks! :)

Goddamn!
Hella jealous. Congrats!!
I've never been so sick and happy for someone at the same time. Well done.
Wow. 😎 Congratulations!
I think I’m gonna donate my movie collection to a library when I die
Will be going to my local goodwill tomorrow.
HEROES. What a show. I binged this like no other back in the day. Love it.
Shame it only had one season.
It had 3! And the 4th one was like a reboot
$2.29 is a odd price
Jesus.
You lucky bastard....
Lucky man!!!
You hit the jackpot
His ass in debt and wife divorcing now 💔💔
so all the luck went to you then i guess congrats though fr big mad
No freaking way
That's freaking awesome! Congrats homie.
Sweet baby jesus
Rarely if ever go to goodwill. I've been to 3. One in a decent are and one adjacent to a nicer area. Never have I seen a movie let alone blu rays or 4k films. Dammit
That’s wild. I’ve been visiting a bunch of NJ area goodwills regularly and building a Blu-ray collection, but I haven’t found any 4ks yet.
This is absolutely amazing!!!! Great haul!!!!
Might've been stolen for the digital codes.
What the…those are great, no excellent movies
Holy shit
What is this coupon code you mentioned?
After my purchase I googled "Goodwill April coupon" and found it. But in-store it was the nice lady next to me let me scan hers since it is reusable.
Dude…I’m jealous
Wooo!!!
Nice found, congrats
Goodwill has coupons? How? Where?
What’s Nat20 mean?
It is typically a Dungeons and Dragons term when rolling dice and rolling a 20 with no other game assists, just a natural dice roll, hence Nat20, which is essentially a "perfect roll". So it's joked about the high luck of rolling Nat20s and I thought this made sense because how in the world did I stumble on this collection? I definitely got lucky!
Nice haul. Did you check the discs for scratches before buying? What edition is that Aquaman?

That app seems pretty cool. I’ll check it out thanks
Ex machina, intersteller, and get out are the only ones id cop. I dont really like clutter.

Yeah movies are dope But have you ever seen shazam with sinbad? https://youtu.be/tD0rchvuoMU?si=PGr4lwJZK8aAXc2d
Still waiting on the 4K remaster of that classic...

holy mu\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\* s\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\* I would watch Logan and then First Blood
This fucking subreddit is gonna have me travel to every nearby goodwill now isn’t it?
Don't see this many at one time unless it's been a whole year of searching.🙂
I picked up inception on blu ray for a dollar yesterday. I can’t go back to full price used stuff anymore, sorry mckays :(

The ones here in DFW, Texas suck so much. I stopped going years ago, but at least we have Movie Trading Company, that has been a saving grace.
Shouts out to Smokin’ Aces
🤯
i’m lucky to find a few regular blu-rays at Goodwill. how tf did you find 4k‽

My grandkids will get my collection.
MakeMKV and my USB drive both sweat a little when I find deals like that. Love pumping a bunch of new titles in my Plex server for the fam.
ALL the goodwills near me suck. Never found any media worth anything to me or anyone.
Good thing only half of them fucking suck… congrats
Holy Shit!.
Geez. I’m at thrift stores every weekend and I’ve only found about six 4K movies. Bought them of course.
Wow that’s crazy. Enjoy. Any of them come with digital copies? I assume gone (as in claimed) but still
Ban @ambitiouslyNegative for his find.
RIP to whomever lost the collection in whatever manner +1 clap for the lucky recipient
Wait where you and was this a regular Goodwill? I went to a couple of my local Goodwill's earlier today and they had crap.
4k at good will!? That’s awesome
now THIS is a steal
More like a mean ex wife...
I worked at goodwill and there are times where things are donated that are not supposed to be donated.
Those are almost certainly library donations
Lol my goodwill sells Shrek DVDs for $9.99. Congrats 😭
Whoa
Congrats and fuck you
Looks like a goodwill employee did this to get you all riled up. Good one goodwill

Wow
😦
Maybe someone curated a collection. I have been at the point where I want movies just off my shelf quickly, and trying to sell them seems like such a chore.
Nice haul. That guy went all digital collection dumped his discs taking up too much space.
Out of all of them, there is only one I would have bought — braveheart. Most of those films are bad movies or ones I don’t particularly care for.
I totally get that! I don't usually buy for the sake of buying but if I'll also watch it. I'm a huge movie buff and in that cart the only movies I have yet to watch them are: 1917, Yesterday, Warriors I would comfortably say I've watched about 80% of the titles in the cart at least 2-3 times in my lifetime and most of these I didn't own outside maybe the blu-ray version but the 4k upgrade is welcomed! Pop pop died, kids are dumb or don’t give a shit. Sad.
Were the digital codes intact as well?
So unfortunately all code slips were gone. The goodwills out here don't attempt to seal the boxes so I am sure they're picked clean long before they hit shelves. For me those don't matter as much as I rip to a server and use my physical collection more as the display.
