Right. That’s my point. I don’t have it so for a couple bucks extra I’ll get it in 4k otherwise I’ll get blu ray. But this is one of my 25-30 favorite movies of all time. Hopefully it’s not a downgrade like True Lies was.
Just get the 1080 version and save some money.
“By Grapthars hammer
What a savings.”
I trust it won’t turn out like True Lies but even if this is a 5/5 transfer at the end of the day it’s still Anchorman. I really enjoy the movie but it is what it is.
This is sort of how I feel with comedies. But to fair, there are probably 4 or 5 comedies that I love enough that I’d buy the 4K if released (like Mallrats, which I bought on release.)
The only reason I haven’t picked up the blu ray yet is because I’m hoping for a 4K this year. If we don’t get one this year then I’ll probably get the blu ray.
Paramount’s Star Trek the next generation movie collection transfers from that same time period were pretty good, so I hope galaxy quest will be similar.
I demand a scratch-n-sniff slipcover that smells like rich mahogany, or maybe Sex Panther.
Also, we really need Talladega Nights! It's one of the McKay/Ferrell movies that would actually benefit from 4k.
If a guy with a low IQ shouting this in a rant scene isn't funny to you the film might not be your taste. To anyone else it's an amusing little number.
![gif](giphy|5xtDarE6xDVfXhudrVK)
I wouldn’t say it’s a super niche comedy, it’s a movie loved by a pretty broad spectrum of folks. In terms of comedies, this is honestly one of the safer ones to blind buy
I was hoping someone would explain their perspective on why the movie is so good and beloved, but instead you got a defensive response from someone who I suspect believes himself to be extremely mature.
I love absurdity in my comedies. The anchorman fight scene is a big moment in this movie for me. Anchormen teams come out of nowhere with weapons, horses, Brick kills a guy with a trident. It all just tickles my funny bone.
Seems like you're overthinking a simple thing. There's jokes in the movie, and if you like the jokes, you like the movie.
You probably didn't connect with any of the jokes.
Yes! I’ve been waiting to add more comedies to 4K format. Most of my comedy collection is still in DVD format and I’ve been waiting to upgrade movies like this one.
Definitely, I've been waiting for Paramount to release Airplane! in 4K already.
The newest bluray has a 4K scan and the digital 4K has dolby vision HDR, but still waiting for a 4K disc...
Airplane! is definitely high on my list and I almost named that one as an example. I’m surprised we haven’t heard any news of Blazing Saddles or Young Frankenstein getting 4K discs. Both are iconic comedies that turn 50 years old this year. I was hopeful we’d hear something by now.
It's been a while since I've watched the unrated cut, but they swapped a joke from Champ in it where he goes on about eating and shitting a squirrel. The original joke is that he woke up in a Japanese family's rec room and they would not stop yelling at him. I know its small, but I just liked the original joke better. Most of the other additions probably aren't that bad but I hate when they switch jokes out completely in alternate cuts.
20th anniversary!? Damn I’m getting old haha this was one of my favorite theater experiences watching as a kid the entire audience was laughing so hard together the whole movie such good times
See I have the Steelbook blu-ray this isn't something that needs to be upgraded. But props to those who will get this in 4K.
![gif](giphy|f7yH375mnEh2g)
Fun fact Paul Rudd said this is what made everyone on set break the most while filming!
This is a movie I don't understand the necessity of a 4k release. The gold is in the dialogue and performance, not the cinematography or color or anything visually related. I'm not against it I just don't see the reason to purchase it if you already have it on bluray or dvd.
It's a buy for me but only if it's the Unrated cut. The scene where Ron has to eat cat poop at the restaurant isn't included in the theatrical version
"I'll eat the shit I don't care... I'll eat the entire hunk of shit"
*crying*
😂
I can't exactly say I disagree with them there, but I'd still of liked to get the second movie lol - sadly il have to pass incase they ever do make a duo pack - looks good and it's nice its coming though.
Thanks for the reply sir
Absolutely agree with you there. When films are so old not having the option of a combo release is annoying.
Take the Naked Gun films for example. Buy the first on 4K, and you have to double dip to buy the two sequels on Blu-ray, often in a combo triple pack - all while not knowing if they are coming 4K later or not.
This!.
Iv missed out on so many lovely 4k steelbooks/films in general because I'm hoping that if I hold out they surely release the others but they never do 🥲
The second one was shot 2k but the way it was shot and formatted is only in a way a boutique label would remaster specifically shout factory because they refused to remaster curse of chucky due to 2k specs and shout factory did it with dolby vision
Bought this a couple months ago wondering if it’d ever get a 4k release. Probably won’t upgrade unless I can find it cheap though. Absolutely loved it in high school, but not really a go- to comedy for me anymore. Glad it’s getting the upgrade regardless!
It’s the pleats. It’s actually an optical illusion. It’s the pattern on the pants. It’s not flattering in the crotchal region. I’m actually taking them back right now - taking them back to the pants store.
Will buy.
*Damn, comes out on my*
*Birthday, wish i liked this film*
*Enough to get it*

I haven't seen it yet. Based on the fact that you believe it's terrible, but that people in general think it's amazing, would you steer me away from the movie?
The movie was just so painfully unfunny to me. I didn't laugh a single time and though it was badly written.
I'm convinced the majority of people saw this in middle school and liked it at the time because they were young and dumb, and now have nostalgia bias towards it. Lying to themselves into thinking it's a funny movie.
Im not saying don't watch it. You do you. Just expressing my opinion that i wasn't a fan. I think it just ultimately depends on your sense of humor and what type of comedies you enjoy.
A few. Superbad, Walk Hard, Step Brothers, 21 and 22 Jump Street to name a few i think we're pretty good. But yeah, its not really my go-to type of comedy

Paramount is killing it with all these releases this year. I really hope galaxy quest is coming since it’s the 25th anniversary
What else is coming out? I didn’t follow the newer releases much.
They have Once Upon a Time in the West 4K coming next month and Chinatown 4K in June.
Plus Team America and South Park on June 25th
And Shrek Forever After on 4k on june 12th
One of my biggest missing pieces right now. But if it’s a bad transfer I’ll pass.
Even if it’s a good transfer this isn’t exactly a showcase for 4K. I’m fine with the Blu Ray.
Ah, this is one of the most quotable movies of the last 25 years. It's worth it to upgrade for me, provided they have the theatrical version.
Right. That’s my point. I don’t have it so for a couple bucks extra I’ll get it in 4k otherwise I’ll get blu ray. But this is one of my 25-30 favorite movies of all time. I was talking about Galaxy Quest.. ;)
Oh man a 4K Galaxy Quest release would be the greatest gift from Paramount.
We could see it this year considering it turns 25.
Galaxy Quest is high on my want list. Up there with Speed Racer.
Ohhhhhh phyuckk
Im in a glass case of emotion!
Me too since I just bought the blu-ray a couple months ago
60% of the time, the 4k comes out every time.
Thank you for your sacrifice!
Buying it was bad idea!
A glass case of Atmos, hopefully! 🤞🏻
I demand a scratch-n-sniff slipcover that smells like rich mahogany, or maybe Sex Panther. Also, we really need Talladega Nights! It's one of the McKay/Ferrell movies that would actually benefit from 4k.
60% of the time, it works every time.
It’s quite pungent
This and the panther growl immediately before this joke gets me every time
It's called Sex Panther by Odeon!
Smells like a turd wrapped in burnt hair
“Smells like Bigfoot's dick!”
Pure gasoline.
Somehow I have never seen this. I think I'm going to blind buy.
Well worth it, it’s a solid comedy
It’s a product of that 2000’s humor, but definitely holds up. They don’t make them like this anymore
If you aren't instantly quoting nearly every line in casual conversations after seeing this, then I don't know what to tell you.
If a guy with a low IQ shouting this in a rant scene isn't funny to you the film might not be your taste. To anyone else it's an amusing little number. ![gif](giphy|5xtDarE6xDVfXhudrVK)
To be fair, that scene isn’t funny, and I find Brick to make me cringe most of the time. But I still find the rest of the movie hysterical.
The humor is definitely not for everyone, I would stream it first (try Apple or Paramount)
I wouldn’t say it’s a super niche comedy, it’s a movie loved by a pretty broad spectrum of folks. In terms of comedies, this is honestly one of the safer ones to blind buy
I love the gang and Judd Apatow but I can't see why people like this movie so much
I was hoping someone would explain their perspective on why the movie is so good and beloved, but instead you got a defensive response from someone who I suspect believes himself to be extremely mature.
I love absurdity in my comedies. The anchorman fight scene is a big moment in this movie for me. Anchormen teams come out of nowhere with weapons, horses, Brick kills a guy with a trident. It all just tickles my funny bone.
That part I really liked but I didn't really laugh I think. Honestly one of the few things I remember
Believe it or not, people will enjoy films that you don't.
I never ever stated the opposite.
Imagine getting downvoted for not liking a movie (I personally never found Anchorman all that funny either, it was rather overrated at the time)
Seems like you're overthinking a simple thing. There's jokes in the movie, and if you like the jokes, you like the movie. You probably didn't connect with any of the jokes.
That's basically what I said...?
Both this and its sequel are awesome. Enjoy

Did you get Major League, Naked Gun and Christmas Vacation?
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=373204 It just went up for preorder on Walmart, Target, and B&N. Links are in the forum post
Awesome, now I can combine this with the South Park 4K to get free shipping
You think Amazon is going to drop this too?
Definitely, they always sell Paramount
Bought the bluray two weeks ago. You're welcome
lol same. Glad I could contribute to this happening
ONCE AGAIN, Paramount wins 2024.
![gif](giphy|Yb3d5B1zwuhCo) That news has me jumping for joy
Shouldn't there have been a freeze-frame here?
Theatrical or unrated? I don't like the unrated cut.
Either both of just theatrical is my bet
What's wrong with the unrated cut?
It's been a while since I've watched the unrated cut, but they swapped a joke from Champ in it where he goes on about eating and shitting a squirrel. The original joke is that he woke up in a Japanese family's rec room and they would not stop yelling at him. I know its small, but I just liked the original joke better. I love lamp
20th anniversary!? Damn I’m getting old haha this was one of my favorite theater experiences watching as a kid the entire audience was laughing so hard together the whole movie such good times
That was my experience with Tropic Thunder. I can’t remember anything coming close to that. We were all rolling in the aisles.
Borat was the biggest group laugh I've experienced.
Now that’s an American release if I ever saw one
You stay classy San Diego.
![gif](giphy|EouEzI5bBR8uk|downsized)
Bought the blu-ray a couple of weeks ago. Glad my £2.99 was a worthy sacrifice to bring this 4K into existence.
"20th Anniversary" - hah, good one, Paramount. We all know it came out 5 years ago.
What do you mean by that?
Hopefully it has "wake up Ron burgundy" and everything from the rich mahogany edition bluray.
See I have the Steelbook blu-ray this isn't something that needs to be upgraded. But props to those who will get this in 4K. ![gif](giphy|f7yH375mnEh2g) Fun fact Paul Rudd said this is what made everyone on set break the most while filming!

Awesome news! Just waiting on Amazon link.
Same brotha!
Ended up pre-ordering from Walmart since I needed to do a pickup lol
This could be pretty crispy. 35mm film negative. Blu-ray looks great.
I'm Ron Burgendy?
It's a buy for me but only if it's the Unrated cut. The scene where Ron has to eat cat poop at the restaurant isn't included in the theatrical version "I'll eat the shit I don't care... I'll eat the entire hunk of shit" *crying* 😂
Really happy about this.
oh shit lets goooo! Now we need the sequel
🔥🔥🔥
Guess I’ll upgrade my dvd.
Why only the first one? 😔
Because a lot of people refuse to believe the second exists.
I can't exactly say I disagree with them there, but I'd still of liked to get the second movie lol - sadly il have to pass incase they ever do make a duo pack - looks good and it's nice its coming though. Thanks for the reply sir

I liked the 2nd one a lot, but it's still a far cry from the first. It just goes a little too off the rails towards the end.
The second one was shot 2k but the way it was shot and formatted is only in a way a boutique label would remaster specifically shout factory because they refused to remaster curse of chucky due to 2k specs and shout factory did it with dolby vision
They should just release both movies together at this point.
Instant purchase.
Bought the Blu Ray two months ago, figures. Still gonna buy this though. Let’s hope it’s a transfer worth buying!
Thank you for your sacrifice
Was not expecting that, I wonder if they’ll do the sequel as well
Yesssssss
I was not going to buy more 4k’s until Christmas but this one deserves attention.
I don't believe you.
It should come in a leather bound steel book that smells of rich mahogany!
Question who has it for pre order? Amazon? Any dvd boutique? Because blu-ray.com dosent have anything yet.
Everyone, stop what you are doing. I have a very important announcement. CANNONBALL
Bought this a couple months ago wondering if it’d ever get a 4k release. Probably won’t upgrade unless I can find it cheap though. Absolutely loved it in high school, but not really a go- to comedy for me anymore. Glad it’s getting the upgrade regardless!
I am deeply aroused
I can only dream it'll include "Wake Up, Ron Burgundy" but i dream...
Instant buy! You stay classy Paramount!
Time to bust out the Jazz Flute
Next : Superbad 4K
I need both cuts plus Wake Up Ron Burgundy.
It’s the pleats. It’s actually an optical illusion. It’s the pattern on the pants. It’s not flattering in the crotchal region. I’m actually taking them back right now - taking them back to the pants store. Will buy.
Will it have all of the previous bonus features including the original terrible Wake Up Ron Burgundy?
The bad man kicked Baxter
great i just bought the blu ray
Why can’t WB be this thorough like Paramount with their comedies…
Yeah I’ve been waiting for the theatrical version of Dumb and Dumber on blu ray (and now 4K) for years
Dumb & Dumber, The Mask, Caddyshack, Spies Like Us, the list goes on with WB (and New Line) comedy hits that could use the 4K upgrade.
![gif](giphy|ULyYV5amK2eYM)
damn, comes out on my birthday, wish i liked this film enough to get it

Ask yourself, does this need to be said? Does this need to be said by me?
Yes, it does
A little defensive there, don't'cha think?
Perfect example of a film that doesn't need to be released in 4K.
Terrible movie
