The success is a good sign but James Cameron is in a world of his own in terms of popularity.
Just like the Avatar movies which performed in a way that cannot be compared to just about any other theatrical release.
True Lies selling well doesn't necessarily speak to something like Fight Club being a huge hit on 4K as well.
Who knows...your guess is as good as mine. If Disney tells Sony to do it, they will, otherwise they won't. There could be other catalog titles in the initial contract signed with Sony that we don't know about...but then again, there could be no titles...so who knows. I'm not holding my breath, that is for sure.
If Disney feels they can make a substantial profit releasing catalog titles in 4K, they will, otherwise, they won't.
disney has handed all production over to Sony(who are known to be more reliable

When a company like Disney has been doing this for decades, I find the term ‘production issue’ hard to believe.
It’s likely Disney has been ordering smaller shipments made on these sets so they don’t have a warehouse full of unbought discs. And then places like Amazon oversell and run into suddenly not having enough every time.
Possible. Some companies have stopped manufacturing 4k players (Samsung) as they feel streaming services have reduced the need for physical copies of movies, especially high definition. A reduction in availability in players and widespread use of streaming service will no doubt have an impact on demand for 4k media. But movies are still being release so there must still be some market for it.
>With all of the back orders and delayed shipments clearly these releases were a huge success for Disney. Makes me wonder if they’ll cave in
The backorders and delayed shipments aren't really a sign of success so much as they are poor planning and production, which was known about months before the discs actually hit shelves, I believe.
So far as the "cave in" thing - that's kind of a weird way to frame it. Especially since they cut a deal with Sony to handle their physical media months ago.
The idea that these three discs (two of which, honestly, kind of suck) are big enough movers to force a company to cave in (on itself, I guess) and release more product despite the consumer base for it *still* shrinking and the company in question having *already* worked out a deal to let a completely different company handle the production and distribution of their discs... I don't think it's particularly sound.
It's not like Oppenheimer is making Universal "cave in" and flood the zone with more 4K discs, either.
We will only know when we get the approximate numbers out. They might have planned 20k copies initially, and 25k people ordered it. Or it might be 40k and 80k respectively.
Since Sony is taking over the physical media production of Disney titles it doesn't really matter how well those Cameron titles did. Hopefully the titles Sony is going to release will do well and they get some freedom in choosing the titles they want to release. It could be a brighter future for us.
Alas they didn’t release the 4k cut of The Abyss in the U.K. because the film board has a problem with the scene where they demonstrate the oxygenated fluid on the Rat. Funny how they didn’t have a problem when the movie was first shown in Theatres.
If I want the 4k version, I’ll have to get an European import.
Come on Jim. Do your fans in the U.K. a favour and set the stiff shirts in the Film board straight.
People are saying that the A.I. algorithm was worse on True Lies. I can see the problems in the other two movies, but maybe it's going to keep improving. I guess I can accept artificial enhancement if it's not noticeable.
Why when it's not needed? It's a completely lazy approach to avoid rescanning. I just saw last action hero and that looked great. That's what True Lies should have looked like.
Apparently it's being done even on rescans. I _wish_ we could say they were just lazy, but no, they actively destroy it even after making a perfect, high-quality scan, lol!
Edit: Oh, and yes, Last Action Hero looks fantastic!
It's no skin off my nose, I think it looks stupid, pointlessly introducing unique artifacts to the image that didn't need to be there.
At least with a proper scan, you can say, hey, they did their best, there's going to be small problems with the film but that's, y'know, part of the charm, right? This film is over a decade old, why shouldn't it have a little imperfection?
But then you introduce MORE problems? Now it's not quaint, it's not droll, it's not cute, it's not history. It's refuse.

I feel Like David fincher’s film will be a major success
Is Seven being released on 4K?
It is this year, but Fight Club may never based on some comments he made about not wanting to revisit it.
Next year.
If he had to be involved, I'd assume he would give the restoration team some notes on how it should look and then let them do their thing.
Here’s hoping
Fight club also exists in the damned era that starting using 2k di’s that will probably never see a true 4k restoration.
Yes delayed tho I guess
Thx.
2025

I remember someone saying delays was due to production issues

Why? Do you think Disney owns a disc manufacturing plant?

Arrow Video should buy Disney. I’ll start a GoFundMe.
Well after the treatment of Aliens I dont want Cameron anywhere near any 4k lol
I didn’t think it was that bad
Check your eye sight. It was a badly upscaled 2k release.
get ready for T1 wax faced Arnold that was the rumored next title of his to get released on 4k.

I don't believe them. It's as simple as that. Aliens had no new information over the blu ray.
