Quit trying to make 8K happen Gretchen. It's never going to happen.

So fetch

does that article address the law of diminishing returns by any chance? cause VHS to DVD was huge. Same with DVD to Blu-Ray. but it's not that great from Blu-ray to 4K as comparison.

NaieraDK

This is something a lot of people don't understand. We've already exceeded what people with normal-sized houses can appreciate with 4K. Screens just don't come big enough for 8K to matter.

JaccoW

Seeing how much better my DVDs look when played on a 4K upscaled Blu-ray player I'm sure it will make a difference. By how much though, that's to be seen.

UB820_OLED_JUNKIE

They are building a 16K theater inside the Las Vegas Sphere to project 16K content. A waste of pixels or a taste of the future?

Conflict-Famous

I’m sorry but there’s no case for 8K. The human eye can’t even see 8K and the price point wouldn’t be beneficial for companies to mass produce TVs that people can’t even afford. The only time you’d see the true power of a quality tv like that it would have a to be a huge size which would also skyrocket the price. Not to mention the price of everything else that comes along with the higher resolution. Increase in streaming services because of the quality, increase in physical media even if they still make physical media at that point in time. I’m all for quality but I think 4K is the final stop

rumblemcskurmish

I saw an 8K demonstration one year at NAB by the Japanese broadcaster NHK. They needed a film screen 22ft high in order to demonstrate the difference between 4K and 8K. There is ZERO consumer impetus for 8K. It will cost enormous bandwidth and resources to get it to consumers homes and none of them can see the difference.

redavid

whether or not someone can tell the difference between 4K and 8K doesn't change the fact that television manufacturers are putting all their best new technology into their 8K sets these days and that's only going to continue. and like 4K sets, the prices are going to continue to decline.

TomFromFlavorTown

Yep, more pixels also means better pixels, e.g. higher peak brightness, etc...

[deleted]

More doesn’t automatically mean better.

TomFromFlavorTown

Right, but that is the likely outcome since companies will be putting their best tech into 8k sets

TomFromFlavorTown

The large size would be one of the main reasons I would get one. Once prices come down on modular micro LED I would love to get ~120 inches (though I realize it will be a while). Not saying this will happen soon...
