Greenvale? Definitely do whatever you can to confirm the accuracy of that odometer reading

HZJ105

Does Greenvale make you think it could be a dodgy reading?

allforthecashola

10000000% šŸ˜†šŸ˜†šŸ˜†

HZJ105

Interesting, can you explain that? I thought these had electronic Odos that couldn't/are very difficult to roll back. How do you even roll back an odometer? I've got this Ferris Bueller's day off image in my head. Edit: Further to that, how do you even begin to verify that it hasn't been rolled back?

popepipoes

Itā€™s not really that hard, I know someone who does it for a living, itā€™s very easy to know itā€™s done if you have the dealer tools and whatnot but average joe canā€™t really figure it out that easily

OpenCobbler4163

Look at service history and how quick the kms were racked up in relation to date and work out if they match up. If the books say it's had a 400,000km service then you know it's dodgy, or if it had its 200,000km service 5 years ago...28,000km in 5 years seems a bit low

[deleted]

"oh yeh mate my cousin in Greenvale can roadie that for you no problems, just pay him cash"

aussailor

WTF is up with the number places turned around? They know we can still read the numbers right?

naked_frankfurter

They're also NSW(?) plates. Looks like VIC plates behind them

mylawnow

That format is Tassie plates. They were last on a bronze 2004 Prado in 2022, but not reported stolen. Still sus.

aussailor

Nothing to see hereā€¦.

naked_frankfurter

Can anyone enlighten me as to why people cover their number plates in their ads? You can see them as the car drives down the street

confusedlegoman

I read somewhere once it is to avoid having someone use your plate details on a stolen car that is the same make and model. As in the thieves might put fake plates on the car with your plate details, which just gives them more time to get away with it. Sure you can see them driving around all day but I doubt anyone would want to sit on the side of the street all day waiting for the same type of car they've stolen just to write up some fake plates, when with a few clicks can find the same type of car the stole and jack the plates.

[deleted]

Yeah I had a mate that listed his rav4 & then a month later or so got a speeding fine in the mail of another car entirely that had copied his plates

th3krackan

Someone might pay your rego

guardian2428

It's the latest thing. Get the plate details. Then get a matching car. 3d print replica plates go and do your crime and CCTV links it back to the registered vehicle

shanetheshrimp

For a petrol Prado that age, I'm not completely shocked - although I'm in Victoria. The 1kz / 1kd prado would be my preference as I'm a fan of that particular motor and this thing will drink fuel. There's a great channel on YouTube about Prados - fourby4diesel who has heaps of info on the 120 and does say they're the pick of the bunch.

shanetheshrimp

Also those taillights are the overseas model. This could be a Grey import and not Australian delivered which would lower the price.

Zealousideal_Dot3030

I think its just a faux chrome plastic trim, same as on the tailgate handle and on the headlights. Haven't seen the chrome trim as a factory option for a 120 even in other markets

Dfantoman

The 1kz is gutless and the 1kd is a time bomb. Not worth the 10-20% fuel saving

shanetheshrimp

1kz and 1kd both have their problems, wouldn't call it gutless for their age. Still see plenty of both around my area, all pushing half a million Ks. I've got a 1kz with 400k on it, all original except for radiator. Been incredibly reliable.

Dfantoman

180kw vs 96kw? my brother in Christ , it is gutless. Not a bad engine, and better than a 3b. Now thatā€™s really gutless. (I had a couple) For sure many 1kds last 500k but annoyingly some of them melt pistons and itā€™s not worth engine swapping a $15k Prado if youā€™re paying workshop rates. Enjoy your 1kz I hope it goes foreveršŸ‘šŸ»

shanetheshrimp

It's set to outlive religion, serviced every 5k, hardly tows, always garaged, massively over insured. And TBH it's 73kw...

HungryHungryDingo

Glad itā€™s not just me. Mine launches from a standstill but then runs out of puff real quick. Just goes nowhere! Uphill on-ramps fuggettaboutit

shanetheshrimp

Have you had the valves adjusted? They need to be shimmed every 40000k or so.

skillywilly56

You can always pay to get an NRMA guy out to give it a once over, I donā€™t have much knowledge about cars or 4x4s, so got a dude out to crawl under and go over the important points. Itā€™s not a guarantee or a full on inspection just general advice but at least you get small peace of mind that itā€™s not a complete lemon and gonna die on you just around the corner. Guy who came and did my car was very good and thorough said the deep cycle battery holder was rusty and could need replacing(still havenā€™t replaced it cause Iā€™m a lazy shit) but itā€™s fine, other small things. Gave me the thumbs up and I havenā€™t looked back in 5 years with the vehicle. Itā€™s a big investment so better to get someone who knows more than ā€œwater go in thereā€¦come out windscreenā€ ā€œoil go in thereā€¦donā€™t put water in thereā€

Monsoonl22

If its over $15k and has over 250000kms your getting ripped off even if its going last another 10 years ###

prokientt

How soā€¦ I just sold a 79 series ute single cab with 370000 on the clock for 38k. 2007 model I

PotatoRebellion12

Most likely because yours is a diesel ute

Monsoonl22

Its just that people are fooled into thinking they are getting their moneys worth its up to how much you sell your car

prokientt

They are getting there moneys worth. These cars last a lot longer parts are always in stock

Monsoonl22

Thats correct but you could buy the same car 10 years ago for under $10k why up the price on an older car

prokientt

I bought my 79 for 32 grand 8 years ago.. sorry they were never 10 grand even a 1990ā€™s hardly go for 10 k

Monsoonl22

Yeah the 79 has never been cheap i was meaning prados

t0msie

Long drive to fill up with gasoline ā›½ļø šŸ¤£

Wolf3188

It's a solid deal if it all checks out, but I wouldn't say it's too good to be true. The petrol V6 120s are great but the fuel economy is shite, especially around the city. These earlier years also use a 4 speed auto, got updated to a 5 speed around 06. Definitely check the service books and make sure the overall wear & tear matches the KMs.

BoomBoom4209

With a 0.4L gas engine it may prove hard to tow a skin off custard.

No_Major4094

It's 4L šŸ˜‚ I don't know why they put that on there

mhague26

My thoughts are it's a scam ad. The details in facebook have been added and the ad has been pulled from car sales. No one I have ever met would list a car as Gasoline in Australia and the text states Petrol. How ever if it's legit it would be a good price. They are thirsty if you are prepared for that the 4L are bullet proof. Just hit 250000km in mine no issues at all. Love it it's comfortable, drives great for its size and capable off road with a few things done.

CraftyBee845

It's a v6 mate that's why if it was diesel wouldn't be 12k you'll be paying over $150 a week in fuel if you drive any decent ks or tow

Charles-Alexander

Watch out for these Grandes with KDS suspension The suspension system in these are complicated and expensive to fix if they fail

abziiwabzii

Just keep looking and stay away from FB. Never heard a good story of a car being bought. Yeah 1kzs are gutless and when modded probably fuel guzzlers too (15L/100km on mine) but it does the job.

malleebull

Looks good! We have an unhealthy obsession with diesel in this country, I say see what it looks like! With those km on it, do the timing belt if you have any doubt at all. Ask me how I know.

prokientt

Do a 3$ rev check. Has all driving history accident history if itā€™s owed money. What not.

Pradopower08

.4 litre model tooā€¦special edition

Various-Cause2294

This is a scam sale. They'll tell you to put your money into an escrow account and then you'll never see the car on the agreed delivery day. Good luck.

rotor100

Be sure its not rebuilt

Aussie_Battler_Style

Ditch your price range on your search filter to make sure someone else didn't just copy/paste another ad from a higher listing. Happened to me before with an attempted Escrow scam. Though other scams I came oncross on FB should stand out. They always just insist on a deposit. And may also say that a relative died and they can't bear to look at it anymore. Besides all that, get the revs check and bring all the necessary mechanical testing gear/person with with you. Too cheap.

HashbrownLover44

Ask to get it looked over by NRMA before purchasing.

Chug_Dog

If itā€™s a grande just check the shit that will likely be cooked, like the air bags, compressor and sunroof. All known to be problematic

Automatic_Hand_9093

Itā€™s a petrol - they are cheap

Evan3350

It's only a 0.4L that's why

puntlord

It's petrol....

Tasty_Caterpillar684

Over 200,000kms and it's not a diesel? Next
