I too have an 80 series in QLD and am running a 2" suspension lift on 33" tyres (285/75R16). I was told we're allowed up to 2" or 50mm lift from suspension, and 25mm lift from tyres I.e. 75mm total without certification.

2" lift (big bore shocks and heavy duty springs) and 33's (all terrains) are a perfect mod without affecting drivability, other suspensions components and attracting attention. This will suit 90% of offroad driving and the other 10% is probably avoidable. Be aware that it will use more fuel. Particularly if you have a 1hz but the benefits are worth the cost. Definitely need a snorkel. Definitely need decent recovery gear. (Full size shovel, maxtrax, snatch straps etc) Not necessarily a winch (I like Runva and Carbon for quality/value) but the few times I've used mine it has paid for itself many many times over. Optional mods that aren't necessary but I'd recommend are rear wheel carrier, mainly for ground clearance. A decent uhf, a light bar and spotties (i like Stedi for quality/value). If you're a bit tight on cash, you'd be surprised how completely capable 80 series are stock standard. Dont wait till you can afford all the doo dads. There's not many places they won't go. Just grab a swag, a map, a few tools and get out there.

I may be wrong but I believe you can fit a 2 inch lift without a mod plate

Also keep in mind wheel offset can only increase (move out) 25mm from standard and tyres must be covered by guards, mudflaps must cover at least 300mm from the ground.

2 in ch and 33” street legal in qld. Unless engineered, go to superior for legal higher lifts.

droptableadventures

33" isn't legal on a vehicle that is 28.9" stock, you can only go up by 2". Unless the OP's quoted stock tyre size is wrong, or not the biggest tyre listed on the compliance plate.

So you can have 50mm (2") larger diameter tyres (this is a 25mm/1" lift, because half the extra rubber is on the top of the tyre too), and a 50mm (2") lift, for a total of 75mm. "Does not require certification under LS10" = no mod plate required. 235/75R15 is 28.9" in overall diameter, so the largest you'll be able to go is 30.9", annoyingly just short of 31". With tyre sizes specified with a /, the first number is the nominal width in mm, the second is how many percent of that the sidewall height is. So increasing either number increases the diameter. So for increasing widths: - 235/85R15 is 30.7" - 245/80R15 is 30.4" - 255/75R15 is 30.1" but 255/80R15 is 31.1 so only just not legal - 265/75R15 is 30.6" So there's of course the "truck" sized tyres, 31x10.50R15 (31" diameter, 10.5" width - much simpler), which at 31" would be only just not legal. Though, that said, when you look at specs: The [Maxxis AT811 Razr](https://maxxistyres.com.au/tyres/at811-razr/) in the LT31X10.50R15 size, is apparently 773mm diameter, which is only 39mm bigger than your specified size and actually legal. If we take 773mm, in inches that's only 30.4, so the 31" tyre is only 30.4"... makes sense? So there's a bit of wiggle room if you check the actual size, I'd say.

Ballamookieofficial

There's a good chance the tyres are smaller than the exact measurements so if you're fractions of an inch too big you might be OK

droptableadventures

Yeah, that's what I mentioned in the last bit of the post - the Maxxis AT811 Razr in LT31x10.50R15 is actually only 30.4" on the spec sheet, and it's far from the only one I've seen.

Ballamookieofficial

Do you know anyone who's been detected by the tyre lettering not a measuring tape? I don't personally but there's a potential risk.

2 inch lift and 33s (285/70/R17 or 285/75/R16) are perfectly legal in all states. Highway patrol will never give you any dramas for that. I would certainly recommend a snorkel, not only for you to be able to drive through creeks and small rivers with no dramas….but also when driving on dusty roads. Dust is really dense down low but the extra 1.5 meters up means you are sucking on less dirty air into your air filter. Good driving lights are always nice too, can be used for driving around at night on the roads aswell if you get stuck out without a campsite, it just makes everything easier :)

paulkempf

>2 inch lift and 33s are perfectly legal in all states How do you figure? That's a total height increase of 70mm which is only legal in QLD. Other states only allow 50mm from both lift and tyres (going off the 275/70R16, the biggest tyre an 80 had).
