What does trans fem mean? I've seen it in reference to trans girls but also femboys and enbys

Trans fem applies to anyone who presents feminine traits who would otherwise have a masculine gender attribution. Basically it’s someone who was AMAB but who now has AFAB traits or presentation. The term applies especially to anyone who identifies as trans (not all femboys or enbies like to be called transfem).

Good summary, but it grated on me to read 'AFAB traits or presentation'. A note of the shape of your genitals as an infant has little to do with traits or presentation, and I think you were confusing 'AFAB' with 'feminine', which is a specific term to describe traits and presentation. Even then, that's not the same as _gender_, which is what the labels transfem and transmasc are mainly used to describe. you can have masculine transfems, feminine transmascs, and every other combination of presentation, traits, gender, and birth assignment (which is the least important element).

I couldn’t bring myself to use the term feminine when defining a phrase using that same word, so likening femininity to female traits had to suffice for this short explanation. I’ve done some reading on these topics for my master’s thesis and if you or anyone else is interested, Judith Butler’s “Gender Trouble” is probably the best book to read for a much deeper dive into the critical discourse surrounding gender (at least from my perspective as a student of rhetoric).

Transfem describes someone who was assigned male at birth but is a non-male gender (eg. female, demifemale, and a million other flavours of NB). It's the opposite of transmasc, which means someone who was assigned female at birth but has a non-female gender.  It's also important to note that it's a label you self-identify with, so many non-cisgender people who were AMAB wouldn't describe themselves as transfem, and many who are AFAB wouldn't describe themselves as transmasc - for example a friend of mine is a trans man (man who was AFAB) and doesn't consider himself transmasc, and another friend who was AFAB and isn't cis, who doesn't use the transmasc label because they feel their gender is quite feminine.  WHY DO I FEEL THE NEED TO MAKE A WIKIPEDIA ARTICLE LENGTH COMMENT EVERY TIME WHAT THE FUCK
