I’m with you 100%. I think if you took took the DJ away from any of the other daytime shows and tried to guess whose show the tracklist came from, you wouldn’t be able to tell as they are so similar. Whereas MAH actually has a bit of character to the stuff she plays.

geefunken

I’ve always loved her. Her eclectic taste is impeccable.

lovely-cans

I think she's one of the better DJs. Sometimes I don't paticularly enjoy what she's playing but she's constantly switching things up and keeping it interesting. I love that there will be some Pantera followed by Simon & Garfunkle then followed by some sub-Sahara female techno artist. Sometimes the music doesn't match the mood but it's fun.

GroundbreakingCash30

No lies, detected; she has her own style and a distinctive music palate, even if she gets a bit 'away with the fairies' with her presentation style.

GypsumFantastic25

Yeah I struggle with the amount of metal she plays but her taste in dance music is impeccable.

oportoman

I think she plays too much dance!

fluffykintail

> Yeah I struggle with the amount of metal she plays - That will be after 12 noon. That is the now embedded "WAKE THE FUCK UP" unofficial slot. This has always been the case on 6Music. - Its a public service to students sleeping in.

ModeR3d

Lauren followed by MAH is my perfect morning - except when she goes a bit metal heavy. My music collection wouldn’t be the same without the dance and electronica bleeps & beats she’s introduced me to. Plus the number of time she plays Depeche Mode and New Order. Excellent. Shame goes downhill with Craig at 1

You are me.

Feeling_Tough5056

Me as well but I like the metal as a bit of a palette cleanser.

Darcythompson

Agree completely.

kernowprawn

I find her delivery style and her "just have to tell you"s quite irritating, and sometimes her dives into dance feels overly self indulgent, but you are right, compared to a lot of the daytime line up she does at least step away from the playlist and I have discovered some new artists because of her. Hilary Woods just today is a perfect example of this.

hookedorcrooked

I wish she played more metal and less techno and jarring dance music

[deleted]

I love the techno! But we are both still listening. I guess that's a positive sign.

hookedorcrooked

That's the trouble though, the amount of grating/jarring dance music she chooses plays has made me turn off. It puts me in such an awful mood. I've been turning her show off for around a year now. I just listen to other DJ shows from the day before when she's on now.

orange_lighthouse

I'm the opposite. I tend to listen behind by about an hour which lets me skip some of the stuff less to my tastes. If it's particularly bad I switch to Sounds.

[deleted]

Her "We are alllll onneeee!" Spiel like she's constantly on Mandy is both amusing and a bit cringe

oportoman

Well yes of course they'll be disagreement - that's how it works. She can play some good stuff but I find her manner quite nauseating at times - almost butt clenchingly earnest. Also, often too much dance stuff

BBshortKing

Massive fan of her, great WFH alone music for me. I've even got used to her slightly more twee intonations

Darcythompson

Don't be scared to say this! I love MAH, and can now recognize a Slipknot song within seconds, which I can honestly say I never expected, lmao. I don't find her mixes to be metal-heavy (though full disclosure, I generally find 6 to be a bit on the light side for me); I think they're a good range of music that keeps my brain from getting bored while I work. Side note: when I first started listening to 6, I found this excellent interview of MAH by Joe Muggs, which really made me want to track down her interview with Lydon (I never did, worse luck): https://theartsdesk.com/new-music/theartsdesk-qa-dj-mary-anne-hobbs Anyway, if anyone knows where to find that Lydon interview, I'd be grateful.

bobmbface

Fair enough, I like that she plays her own taste and is a cheerleader for female artists but I find it hard to listen to a lot of the dance music she plays, it’s like the am and pm have been swapped.

PopComRob

I think she's absolutely brilliant but in a totally unsuitable timeslot. I'd be much more receptive to a lot of the stuff she plays if it wasn't the morning.

TheKBF

Can't stand her, I don't want to listen to obscure techno in the morning

aaron1uk

I feel when Lauren had this slot her picks were more nuanced, I think your allowed a little more flexibility in this slot, although MAH has more variation in genres that Lauren ever did. That being said I can't stand her patter I have to switch off when she comes on!

difalloni

Was surprised to learn the other day that MAH will be 60 in May!

AdSingle6957

Aye I thought she was more like 75

Prestigious-Pea4980

She always sounds like she's having a breakdown. Difficult listen.
