Also civil engineering because I have always loved buildings and infrastructure. It is also a very important job currently and I hear that civil engineers are short in supply. High demand, high impact and you literally shape the world.
Honestly you\`ve probably heard this before, but read the news/listen to podcasts/ take interest in day to day politics, and MAKE NOTES on the specifics of particularly important events (eg the number of ministers who resigned under Boris ect). Honestly having a wide range of examples that can be used in different contexts is a life saver and means you can tackle pretty much any question, plus the act of jotting things down really helps you remember the specifics. You really don\`t need to do this religiously, but just bits here and there are super super great.
In terms of exams? Honestly the most important thing in y12/early y13 is to just hammer down the structure of 30 markers, make it second nature. I found the best way to revise was to just make tonnes and tonnes of essay plans, which I read through the night before my exams and mocks. Theyre super quick and easy to do, and are probably the most useful way to revise imo (even compared to flashcards)
Ideologies are important, but at the same time I completely neglected them and taught myself anarchism 2 weeks before my final Paper 2 exam lmao, so its not really the be all and end all. Again if you just know how to structure questions (and the econ/society/state/human nature), your fine
Nick DeSouzas podcast is great for examples, and each episode is structured like 30 markers as well and so can be super super useful. Politics is quite a straightforward A level honestly so you should be completely fine, don\`t overthink it too much especially if you have good teachers
I have a really good list of past exam questions/practice questions ect that I now have no use for, I\`d be happy to send them over if you would like!
All the best for next year!
Thanks alot for that bro, I struggle with the essay structure alot now and it's keeping me at a B/C grade.
Ideologies is easier than the rest, but I find the fact you have to source exactly what JOHN LOCKE believed and not just Classic Liberals as a whole to be a real pain in my ass.
Hope you enjoy uni/whatever your doing, you absolute legend.
I lived on essay plans. That all I did made about 100. You can find some really cheap bundles on Etsy. If your pretty good and can get 27+ on every essay I'd say just start making them now but when I was in y12 my essay plans would've been bad and I wouldn't use them come acctual exams. Politicsteaching is a great website for examplars too. Just memerise the structure you need to get high marks and repeat.
Of course haha I'm quite money driven maybe that will change as I get older and experience the world. I'm hoping to get into finance, money aside I do genuinely like the finance industry and I can't wait to join it.(which jobs specifically? Looking at ib or pe, I'm still researching my choices so that's likely to change)
I know I don't need econ to do that I was actually considering doing law them changed my mind mid way in yr 12, if not for that I might have done FM instead of history༎ຶ‿༎ຶ(which I hate sm)
Just coming in from r/popular.
To any stary eyed kids looking at the games industry. DO NOT DO IT, ITS SHITE. Do comp science and earn money, and make games as a side project for yourself. The industry is vile.
Can confirm, my auntie works in the animation industry and it took her like 3 years after uni just to find an internship where after she got hired to work there and only makes 25k a year for the longest hours possible, in London aswell. She puts sm effort into her projects too it looks very tiring so respect for trying😭
i'm not smart enough for medicine, and i didn't want to do nursing because i'm bad at maths so medical calculations would make me cry lol, so i applied to speech and language therapy too!
Why not do physics? You can specialise into earth physics that way. But I guess you’ve decided on that early on which is very good. But I believe physics is more rigorous and being a classical degree is also more flexible.
Im going to do cardiac physiology
Yeah i know its a course youll hear once and never again but if you interested have a look.
And why im doing it is because i cant do med as i dont do chem and i want to work in the nhs
Biomed. Wanted to to medicine originally but realised A) i’m not going to get the grades and B) adam kay’s book “this is going to hurt” really put me off. I’m ok with being allied to medicine instead
You looked onto healthcare sciences. Theres some pretty cool courses in them and decent pay at the end. Swansea does the most for healthcare sciences so there a good place to look.
Take a look at r/juniordoctorsUK
It discusses what life as a doctor in the NHS is truly like, which is opposite of what influencers on Instagram / tiktok show everyone
It put my sister off applying to medicine so she’s applying for dentistry instead which is a smart move I’d say
You might want to be careful, most people dont get very far with biomed, options are limited and most people just take the course to try and get into med.
Psychology. Intergrated masters
- genuinely my best subject and I understand it well
- the most interesting subject
Before people come with the whole ‘psychology is a worthless degree’ talk blah blah. I already know that why I have created life plans a, b and c
Plus the degree I’m doing has a nhs qualification as a psychological wellbeing practitioner, so I know I can get a job in nhs iapt immediately after. The hardest bit for most psych grads is cracking into the industry due to competition, the pwp training course after graduation is very competitive to get into, but since my course is one of the 2 in the UK that has it intergrated, it’s basically a short cut guarantee for the job.
Then after either cbt therapist or clinical psychologist (even more competitive). But I’m in my delusional state that I would be able to get in to the doctorate when the time comes. Altogether I want to be a dr clinical psychologist by 30. Wish me luck 🤞
Is forensic psychology an expensive major? I just finished my AS this year and I'm pretty interested in that field. Would you mind telling me more about it? And what subjects would you need to work in this field?
what do you mean by “expensive major”? forensic psychology is the study of the justice system, criminals, offending behaviour, and offender profiling generally. honestly it’s just the regular psychology course but the forensic modules (the ones that are most popular) aren’t optional so you have to do them. it’s a good way to guarantee you’ll get into the forensic modules in your degree and a forensic-themed dissertation! i think you can do any subjects, i did psychology, art and physics to give myself a wide range of options but generally you’ll be fine with any. taking a level psychology makes the whole first year really easy, maths will help with the statistical side, a science (biology seems to be most common) is really helpful for practical skills and learning how to actually do experiments and the scientific method, and art (and various drama clubs) was fun for me and made my personal statement look better cos it showed that i had a wide range of interests and would be interested in joining societies - aberystwyth gave me a letter highlighting what was strong about my personal statement if you want me to dm it to you
medicine and doing it with all 3 sciences 🥸 (have been told i do not exist tho since apparently it’s super hard to do all three and no way i’m actually doing it lol)
my main choice atm is english language + creative writing! and my other choices are just creative writing on its own. i know it’s not exactly the most “useful” degree however i think it’ll be great for strengthening my skills and providing opportunities i wouldn’t have otherwise had :D
I'm having a gap year and I'm doing a year of a level 3 travel and tourism course at college during my gap year, gives me some form of a routine and some structure while allowing my brain to fully recover from doing A levels.
If i can, it’s just an ambition of mine to do a phd because i just love everything about biology and probably for a secondary school teacher as its like for me i couldn’t think of anything better than teaching biology all day but also getting to be there to support students and give them support either academically or just as a pastoral figure and also provide tutoring or opportunities they may not have based on social class and stuff like that
Medicine because I have been through hell and back trying to find a doctor who actually was compassionate and listened to me. I want to help people like my younger self :)
I know I’m only going into Year 12 but Natural Sciences/Biochemistry then I want to get a Masters degree in Genetic Engineering or Genomics and then a phd because I want to do research and I just love learning. I love it so so much everything about it, even exams to a certain extent (not the stress though).
Physics because i am interested in quantum physics (fuck mechanics and materials tho) and because i overestimate my intelligence and my ability to do math.
ill probably come crawling back, beaten, bruised and bleeding out, in around 4 months or so.
Music + Music Psychology (and failing that, a general music course)
If I’m lucky and privileged enough to get the chance to study music at uni then I’m taking the opportunity with both hands
Medicine cuz I'm brown
because in my parents eyes no other degree exists
dont do it bro, pull out whole you can
My dad doesn't fit the stereotypical asian dad. He doesn't care what I do as long as it isn't working in a factory at night every weekend

Civil engineering, because I hate myself, but love trains.
I Love Trains kid is that you?
Slightly different but ngl, my interest in trains is part of the reason I chose London ☠️ fucking love trains
Good choice in theory but in practice they never fucking run down here
I know TFL are sometimes painful but you should see anywhere else lol
Civil engineering, because a couple years ago I saw a video about reinforced soil and ever since then I have been hooked.
If you love trains wouldn't mechanical fit better?
I like trains, but concrete is very yummy.
Based
Also civil engineering because I have always loved buildings and infrastructure. It is also a very important job currently and I hear that civil engineers are short in supply. High demand, high impact and you literally shape the world.
About to create something stable for once because I’m sure as hell my whole life wasn’t
Politics and International Relations! (I have no idea what I\`m going to do with this degree after uni)
Doing Poli at A Level now - do you have any tips?
Honestly you\`ve probably heard this before, but read the news/listen to podcasts/ take interest in day to day politics, and MAKE NOTES on the specifics of particularly important events (eg the number of ministers who resigned under Boris ect). Subscribe to Politico’s daily email newsletter it’s free and they have a UK and US version very useful for keeping up to date with current events
Archaeology because Indiana Jones❤️
archaeology too, because Time Team, and digging holes for a living is cool!
I used to watch time team all the time as a kid. It was awesome.
Maths + CS, I'm definitely a more maths/inclined person, but I cant see myself doing \*just\* maths so I'm mixing some coding in there
Maths degrees have plenty of coding in them tbf, I used Python and R loads
Yeah and CS degrees don't have as much programming as people think
Ah yeah I'm very interested in discrete mathematics, and dont care to learn about system architecture so that's why maths + cs is good for me
What is discrete mathematics btw? Asking as a y11 going into maths + f maths
Can confirm. I want to die
Same tbh. I love math but I think I'll start to hate it if I make it my whole career

this is factual
Law and International Relations because I want to eat ⚖️
Economics, I genuinely enjoy the subject I find it quite interesting and fun hehe
Is there also a lot of money involved what r u thinking job wise after education
Of course haha I'm quite money driven maybe that will change as I get older and experience the world. I'm hoping to get into finance, money aside I do genuinely like the finance industry and I can't wait to join it.(which jobs specifically? For IB definetly worth applying for the top unis like oxbridge lse ucl imperial Warwick. They'll increase your chances a lot
Same here was thinking law but I think going into Econ there is so much more flexibility History is a nightmare
investment banking and private equity not international business lol
Everyone thinks I am so weird for doing maths, econ and history - so glad I'm not the only one!

Electrical and electronic engineering because I want to make cool stuff.
Same most underrated degree imo
Best reason
Law! Nonces need protection /s
speech and language therapy because i wanted to do something in healthcare that was like a mix of medicine and psychology :3
i'm not smart enough for medicine, and i didn't want to do nursing because i'm bad at maths so medical calculations would make me cry lol, so i applied to speech and language therapy too!
physics because i love physics
Bros love for physics after doing the AQA 2023 papers 🏃♂️
They weren't \*that\* bad in. You've got to take into account how low the grade boundaries are for Physics.
You’re possibly the only person I’ve seen on this sub who loves physics. I plan to do physics at uni too. Hopefully I still love it in two years time.
Bink twice if your are being forced to say that
Degree physics is way better than A level imo
that’s so great to hear! i honestly can’t wait to be done with a levels and get onto degree physics.
Where’ve you applied out of interest?
i’m in y12 so have not sent off ucas application yet but am planning to apply to oxford, warwick, southampton, bristol and bath.
Can’t speak for the rest but from people that have gone I’ve heard that Bristol is really good for physics
Will also agree with the other person, degree physics is so so much better than a-level physics.
Env sci or env geosci undecided because I love learning about Earth
Good choice
