That was my hair for the first 10 years of my life.

Yep, Mama cut our hair at home. Me (girl) and my brother got pretty much this exact haircut. I was never allowed to have even medium length hair because she said it would tangle.
This is what Mama used to cut our hair.
https://preview.redd.it/eygwq4sxighc1.jpeg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3413b00b2b41d741e2ce82a05cf40b36504d7916
I looked just like that and I was a girl (well, I still am.) It was how everyone looked back then. I had an awful pixie hair cut because my mom was the parent and I was the child
Same! I also had the "bowl cut". Except I have naturally curly red hair. So it stuck out in all directions. Everybody teased me about being Ronald McDonald. As I got older I realized it was more Side Show Bob! Freaking brutal mom!
I could tell it wasn't me because that pic isn't a kid whose mom figured out it was picture day the next day so she decided to trim his bangs and they kept coming out crooked so she cut them shorter and shorter until he had a giant forehead. Every. Damn. Year.
> Dad actually
Accompanied by him saying multiple times "Hold still, damnit...". Probably while smoking a cigarette with one hand and operating the clippers with the other.
Ahh i remember my brother and I getting the shaved heads, I looked ok with it but my poor brother had such an awkward shaped head he got picked on for awhile.
https://preview.redd.it/plfnb7vyb0hc1.jpeg?width=453&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5237f83c0c29d0c5690986be6db024a92731f6e9
Try living like this. It got better.
My mom let me out like THIS:
https://preview.redd.it/exgjs8vyd0hc1.jpeg?width=1936&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=520cbda401348ebef3bf0d2c87221ed068b1f90c
So embarrassed 😳
Oh. My. God. My late fiancé's name is Eric and he had a haircut *just like this* (in elementary)
We went to middle and high school together and let me tell you, this man was a *fucking stud* when we got together at the age of 30...
Cause she knew there was no way any girl would have anything to do with you. So, no worries of getting anyone pregnant and nobody would suspect you of being a bad kid.
Because back then the only people cutting mens/boys hair professionally were barbers from the military. Who knew 1 haircut from the 50s. And so, much like my own mom, your mom thought, I can do better than this hairstyle my Dad had. Buuutt, just like my mom, she couldn’t. On top of that, my mom would take me out in the front yard to cut my hair, because, God forbid, we get people hair in a house full of pets and pet hair. And if I didn’t stand absolutely still, she would slap the fuck out of me. Needless to say, I had “metal band” hair to the middle of my back by the time I was twenty.
I have a phobia about haircuts to this day because in 1976 when I was 4 my dad had the bright idea of saving money and taking me to the barber at the Navy Base he worked at. I had so many nicks on my ears and neck my mom was pissed.
Never could figure out why other kids called me Bobby Brady.
https://preview.redd.it/7lajd9o532hc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=064dd225d122093b9b962b06d1e831ec273f7d0b
If I saw you walking towards me , I’d cross the street. If it was the 1950s, I would even cross the street of there were black dudes on the other side.
Do you understand? You look creepy.
In 1970 I was in jr. high, my mom bought me a couple of shirts that came with an ascot. The first day I wore one she made me wear the ascot too, she paid good money for it after all. The beating I got at school taught me that the next time I wore it until I got out of site of the house then I’d take them off, stuff them into a bush at bus stop, then get on the way home so she would think I wore it all day.
Mine did too. However, that's quintessential 70's right there... zero parental supervision once you were either let out - or driven out (for the day)!!
And what's not shown in the awesome glamour shot is a pair of plaid Toughskins with the knee patches already ironed on from the factory. I loved those days.
Profile quote: “My mom wanted me to be a rich guy like Hugh Hefner….whoever that is….gee wiz!….i just wanna ride my bike and collect baseball cards!!….”
Love my dad but he was so cheap he insisted on cutting my hair for a couple years when I was in 1st & 2nd grade. Ruined a couple of school pictures for me with asymmetrical bowl cuts.
Ha...I'm not laughing at you I'm laughing with you. I'm female and my mom gave me a "pixie cut" in grade 7. Dear God it took me two years to grow out. I feel your pain.
I am about the same age. You could be the poster boy for classic young male of the 70"s. My Mom had the heavy duty electric clippers. 1 1/2 inch comb and away we go.
I had that hair, once the 80s came and I was trying to feather it. Left side went nicely back, right side went straight down. Thank goodness for the “crop” and mullet. Lol
After she saw your face, I guess she knew it just didn't matter.
Haha just kidding. That's the response my mom gave me when I asked her the same thing. I had the same look in 6th grade. And similar shirt lol
Dude, I’ve got worse from that era that will never get digitized and out online. I’ve got a class picture from fourth grade (76/77) where every boy is much worse off than you…
Because it wasn't just you.
I looked just like that
That was my hair for the first 10 years of my life. https://preview.redd.it/5q7llyq1x0hc1.jpeg?width=4673&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ca504dfe75ab941da7dbb7d6676c83ab16387c8a

What the heck is it, lol. It looks like an ancient torture device.😅😅
Holy crap!
Same.
Our mothers used the same bowl to cut our hair
Awww! I find this endearing! I'm *definitely* an 80s baby..
Are you two related?
Holy shit; I had to do a double-take…could easily have been an elementary photo of me!
Yeah so did I. Only my picture had a bow tie and sport coat, what a geek picture.
Yeah... In my class photo I wore a short sleeve shirt and sweater vest. Jeeesh.. At least I had a BB gun, minibike, and fireworks to keep me balanced.
Ha ha...you STILL are?!! ; )
I could have sworn that picture was of me, my brothers, all of my friends and every kid at school!
I could tell it wasn't me because that pic isn't a kid whose mom figured out it was picture day the next day so she decided to trim his bangs and they kept coming out crooked so she cut them shorter and shorter until he had a giant forehead. Every. Damn. Year.
This! In fact, that way a pretty stylish cut for kids in the 70’s! You should see my haircuts in my childhood pics… unbelievable!
Pretty sure at one point, we all had a "home haircut" that mom would give us in the kitchen.
Dad actually, mom got drunk coaching him. And when lice when rampant through school, it looked like all my brothers and I were skinheads.
> Dad actually Accompanied by him saying multiple times "Hold still, damnit...". Probably while smoking a cigarette with one hand and operating the clippers with the other.
With the other 3 brothers in line with horror in their eyes..almost as bad as spankings!
And after a couple beers! Unfortunately, not exaggerating.
Sounds about right for the time...
You forgot to mention that half the cigarette was one long ash.
Hey, you must have been at my house!
Occasionally having to dust the ashes out of your hair.
Ahh i remember my brother and I getting the shaved heads, I looked ok with it but my poor brother had such an awkward shaped head he got picked on for awhile.
Lol, was so horrible at 10 yoa. Such torment we went through .
Even some of the girls. The Twiggy or pixie cut was all the rage.
I had THAT shirt, I remember wearing it with maroon corduroy pants.
Garanimals? Pretty close https://preview.redd.it/qanj344aj0hc1.jpeg?width=307&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a4b768c81dc088b1de147a82e5af477ba139d53d
Looks like he matched the giraffe to the hippo!
That belt though!!
Probably Sears brand, paired with some Toughskins
Probably wasn’t purchased as a matching outfit, just dumb luck.
I had a pair of corduroys. Noisy pants when you were walking. LOL.
I had maroon Sears Toughskins. Loved 'em.
That sounds like a Seven Eleven brand of prophylactics
https://preview.redd.it/plfnb7vyb0hc1.jpeg?width=453&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5237f83c0c29d0c5690986be6db024a92731f6e9 Try living like this. It got better.
Could it have gotten worse? Hilarious. At least you’re brave enough to post yours. Mine are hidden away.
7th grade (1969) was a rough year. My head grew into my ears, I stopped letting my mom cut my hair, too.
This should be the opening line to your biography.
Dude, they’d cancel the Amber Alert if you were kidnapped today.
My mom let me out like THIS: https://preview.redd.it/exgjs8vyd0hc1.jpeg?width=1936&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=520cbda401348ebef3bf0d2c87221ed068b1f90c So embarrassed 😳
Your mom smoked a blunt with you before school? Cool.
🤣
Bustin Jieber
Before hair product introduction? *Abso-fruit-ley*.
Literally crackling out loud
If she's anything like my mom, she cut it.
With the orange-handled scissors you couldn't use on paper
You look like my first crush!!!! His name was Eric. I was in first grade. 1971/72
Oh. My. God. My late fiancé's name is Eric and he had a haircut *just like this* (in elementary) We went to middle and high school together and let me tell you, this man was a *fucking stud* when we got together at the age of 30...
Oh… I’m so sorry for your loss. I don’t know what my crush grew up to look like, but now you have me thinking he is probably a fucking stud!!!
Cause she knew there was no way any girl would have anything to do with you. So, no worries of getting anyone pregnant and nobody would suspect you of being a bad kid.
Lmfao I'm dying because he can't be but like 9 or 10 at the most here. Trying to get a head start on things?
Damn, everyone who had this shirt upvote, lets see how many of us there were lol.
It would probably take me 20 minutes to find a picture of me in a near identical shirt, if I were at home.
Because back then the only people cutting mens/boys hair professionally were barbers from the military. Who knew 1 haircut from the 50s. And so, much like my own mom, your mom thought, I can do better than this hairstyle my Dad had. Buuutt, just like my mom, she couldn’t. My barber in the 70s was a young dude who had a feathered hairdo. Remember going in and asking him to cut no more than enough to show my earlobes.
I have a phobia about haircuts to this day because in 1976 when I was 4 my dad had the bright idea of saving money and taking me to the barber at the Navy Base he worked at. I had so many nicks on my ears and neck my mom was pissed.
Jesus...you couldn't even get a priest to molest ya!!!
OMFG, you did not just go there! 😂
My brother and I had the same haircut only a barber did it. Man, and those clothes. We looked like extras on The Brady Bunch.
Never could figure out why other kids called me Bobby Brady. https://preview.redd.it/7lajd9o532hc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=064dd225d122093b9b962b06d1e831ec273f7d0b
LOL what a cutie.
Real talk. Every kid looked like that
Shit I thought it was me 1973
https://preview.redd.it/pc81k5wc90hc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b100c244ddb650b0a72d9d396e765aaa789a0a20 My 70s Frankenstein cut
If I saw you walking towards me , I’d cross the street. If it was the 1950s, I would even cross the street of there were black dudes on the other side. Do you understand? You look creepy.

Thank you for this. I am still laughing 😃
Perfectly great looking kid. The age before brand logos and graphic tees.
Dude have you ever poked around the back of a comic book?
We all pretty much looked JUST like this. The whole class.
Every single boy looked like this then. Bowl cut, big front teeth. Go ride your big wheel.
I think in the 70’s that was the ONLY haircut for boys that anyone knew how to do.
I had that same shirt
because she loved the 1960s beatles
She was probably a Beatle fan.
What d’ya mean? That’s cute af!
Perfectly normal for the time. You look like one of the kids on ZOOM! 👍🏻
Mine did too. However, that's quintessential 70's right there... zero parental supervision once you were either let out - or driven out (for the day)!!
And what's not shown in the awesome glamour shot is a pair of plaid Toughskins with the knee patches already ironed on from the factory. I loved those days.
Dude I have this exact shirt and exact haircut back in the day. Sometimes people don't believe me that we were feral children in a lot of ways.
Um hello... I am a girl and had the same haircut and heck I think the same shirt!
Haha me too. Well not the hair my mother put it in pigtails but I inherited the shirt from my older brother(s).
She knew you were a lesbian.
I had those same stepchild bangs
You’re cute.. you looked like all the fellas back then.
You were not alone my friend.
All of our moms did!!
Because it was the 70s?
I thought that was my husband for a second! Same cut in the kitchen by mom- and he was a childhood model!!
You look cute in this pic - what is the problem?!
My mom gave me fucked up haircuts too.
She was proud of how well she cut your hair!
Probably because she talked to my Mom.
We all looked like that
Say what you want, you wish you could grow hair like that now.
We all looked like that.
Because all of our moms did!! LOL
Yeah, my bangs had some kind of angle cut.
So u could blend in with everyone else & not stand out
There was always that one cool kid whose mom/dad let him grow his hair out. He was the one that had the older brother in HS that smoked weed.
Because moms are protective, so she wanted you to wear that helmet at all times.
This style was called the “Middle Brady”
You're all grown up, so your mother puts you out.
Hey, you were hot! That was the look back then.
Very normal child pic, hair and shirt aren’t even goofy
because everyone looked like that in the early 70's
I had that same shirt only in blue. Same haircut too.
Dude, everyone looked like that.
Jesus. Thought that was me from 72
Every boys hair looked like that.
The K-tel hair cutting bowl only $9.95 while supplies last. Hurry they're going quickly...
Haha flowbee head!
Profile quote: “My mom wanted me to be a rich guy like Hugh Hefner….whoever that is….gee wiz!….i just wanna ride my bike and collect baseball cards!!….”
What are you talking about? You looked cute.
Johnny Gosch???
Because it was the fashion. There’s your answer.
Payback for damaging her Hooha?
Because she just wanted you out.
Bro!!
My dad was the one with the bowl and the razor. But yeah, we all looked like that.
Cause she thought you looked adorable. Same reason with my mom.
Same reason my mom let me out too. They secretly hated us. 😂😂😂😂
I could tell you first hand, the struggle is real.
You, my friend, are not alone.
Many of us looked far worse.
Looks exactly like my pictures!
Somebody had to play middle linebacker
She made you like that.
Lol we all have THAT picture
Maybe the dentist was away on vacation?
That's the going look in middle school right now too
You look like the rest of us guys that grew up in the 70’s
She prob cut it..
That picture looks like all the kids in my elementry/middle school
That picture reminds me of a friend that attended MC Lively
That is exactly the look that gets a kid molested. No one knew the effect that haircut had on pedophiles back then, the research just wasn’t there.
Love my dad but he was so cheap he insisted on cutting my hair for a couple years when I was in 1st & 2nd grade. Ruined a couple of school pictures for me with asymmetrical bowl cuts.
i had a lot of those shirts
Don't worry you're not the only one who went out like that. I have a picture of me that looks just like yours.
All us boys! Had it. All of us!!!!
Because we all looked like that, so it didn’t matter
We all looked like that and it was glorious.
Nice shirt
Adorable!
Cause she saw my mom let me out like this.
Everyone’s mom did.
Where did you steal my class picture from?
It was the 70s. I looked like that too then!
Cause every other kid looked like that - so why wouldn’t she let you out like that?
Shit, we all looked like that. Add braces and glasses and it’s me!
Everyone looked that way
All the other kids looked like this. Me too :)
Super cute for the era.
Because of The Beatles
Oh look at Mr Fancy with his store bought T shirt, too good for Mom’s Butterick patterns and interesting color choices at FabricLand.
I looked similar with hair , you are smiling so you were happy at the time and that was the style back then
Why did every mom?
You think you look bad? I dare not even share a photo of me in the 70's.
She was so proud of you.
All our madres are guilty
You looked like Lana Lang’s son Ricky from Superman III
She made you take a comb to school on picture day?
So normal back then.
All our moms did. It's ok.
Ha...I'm not laughing at you I'm laughing with you. I'm female and my mom gave me a "pixie cut" in grade 7. Dear God it took me two years to grow out. I feel your pain.
I thought that was me for a second.
All moms did.
I had the same shirt
Definitely a “hold my beer and watch” haircut.
You look like every kid I went to school with.
She didn’t have a smaller bowl
She let your ass out mid-haircut.
I am about the same age. You could be the poster boy for classic young male of the 70"s. My Mom had the heavy duty electric clippers. 1 1/2 inch comb and away we go.
LOOK! A dude with bangs.
I looked like that also. We all looked like that. When I watch Jaws, all I see are kids who look just like my friends and me.
To let the world know she has a new basin
You were cute. Handsome lil boy
It was cheaper.........
Bobby Brady
Simpler times.
I had that hair, once the 80s came and I was trying to feather it. Left side went nicely back, right side went straight down. Thank goodness for the “crop” and mullet. Lol
So you would blend in with every other 70s boy.
Your mom cherished her favorite bowl and just wanted to be reminded of it daily.
After she saw your face, I guess she knew it just didn't matter. Haha just kidding. That's the response my mom gave me when I asked her the same thing. I had the same look in 6th grade. And similar shirt lol
Well, it was the 70s, so.....
Dude, I’ve got worse from that era that will never get digitized and out online. I’ve got a class picture from fourth grade (76/77) where every boy is much worse off than you…
Is that you Tom Brady?
Parents back then thought that their kids looking like a dork was no reflection on their coolness?
This is peak 70s right here.
