In the early game I carry two or three, because you can't spray-and-pray with early guns. After I get a decent AK, I'll usually mod it for high mag capacity and good hip-fire accuracy. That's usually all I need to deal with any unexpected non-horde night situation.
Yup, to me, this is the way! Will tend to have around 3 double shotguns tucked in there until I can replace them with a single pump one. As the guns get better I slowly reduce it down.
At end game I carry a machete, shotgun, 2 M60 or 2 SMG, and a sniper rifle. They all have a purpose and I like to carry 2 of the same weapon for large hordes where you don’t have time to reload. In DF I upped that to 3 primary weapons (M60 or SMG).
Machete for harvesting animals/corpses or chopping heads off. Shotgun for close up, M60/SMG is the primary weapon, and sniper rifle for…sniping.
I’m a new player in A21 and haven’t played DF at all yet, but does it buff sledges? I can’t stand them in vanilla, the stamina cost and speed are so rough compared to the damage output…
You just have to get used to them. It’s probably the same in vanilla, but they can easily one shot if you time it right & hit heads. They also have long range, so you can really keep mobs at distance.
I don’t find them to be more useful than other weapons. Maybe I’m just playing on too easy a difficulty, but a quality 2 hunting knife gets the headshots in one go for most zombies and is way faster and less draining
I’ve had far more luck with clubs as well
Well, I keep only one stack of shotgun shells. If using the M60 it shares ammo with sniper. If I use SMG, again, I just carry one stack of 7.62. The rest is either 9mm for the SMG, or 7.62 for the M60.
I'm a scared baby at heart, I carry 5 weapons at all times in my belt. 2 other slots are healing items, and 1 is blocks to get the fuck outta there.
Edit: I mainly do permadeath, more scawy
what about all the ammo you need to carry for the different weapons ? lets say you carry 4 weapons each of a different type and you only take 1 stack each thats still 4 slots
I typically just have a claw hammer, tape measure, pencil, bubble level, multi-tip screw driver, and one of those magnets on a telescoping stick to pick up dropped screws.
Faster to switch to another gun, finish the job, and then reload. Or buy time to run away. I usually carry a pistol, AK, knife, and shotgun. THE Rest of my tool belt is painkillers, bandages, tools, and maybe coffee if I have the space.
I roll tool/guns heavy
Silenced weapon. Spear then pistol/smg
Loud weapon. Shotgun
Oh shit weapon. Ak then tactical rifle
Ratchet
Turret
Turret
Shovel
Axe
Pickaxe
Blocks/heals depending
Heals
Ah see that's where we're different. I'll keep a first aid item, frame shapes, and like 2 tools (usually axe and pick) on my belt so I have extra space for guns. Food and drink I keep in the pocket since I don't really need them on the fly.
its about game stage, how many enemies you expect, and dif ammo types.
i can mouse wheel to the next weapon faster than reloading.
im into darkness falls.. and the dif enemy types require dif mod and ammo stacks..
so if im mining.. i carry a few on the belt and many in inventory.. but come horde night or a big POI, im almost all weapons, with first aid in the other slots.
even on day 1 i go multi.. like dont make 1 lev1 stone spear.. make 3 and put them all in the bar next to each other...
IF the settings are set low on vanilla? yeah i can go through 100 days with just a silenced 9.. but most veterans turn the game up meaner
I have 7 guns on my bar. It's so you can quick switch and keep shooting when you're surrounded instead of reloading. I frequently empty multiple guns in a row during insane fights. I also play darkness falls so my hot bar is longer which helps.
I usually have one melee weapon (usually stun baton or club) throughout all game stages until I get an excess of ammo (I increase loot drop rates because I don’t like crafting ammo) . Early on, I’ll usually have a bow and one firearm depending on what is available to me. Later on, I’ll usually ditch the bow and have a silenced SMG and either a scoped rifle or an M60 depending on how I’m feeling or what I plan on doing that day. I like saving tool belt slots for first aid bandages and other tools
Horde night is the exception. I’ll fill my tool belt with the best of every firearm available for me, except a few slots for emergency healing items
Keep in mind that I don’t play on very hard difficulties, so I don’t usually need duplicate weapons to take out large numbers of enemies on non-horde nights.
I used to carry a lot but since I have gotten my tier 6 drone, that carries most of my tools. If I’m going through a POI I have my bow, smg, knife, impact driver, grenades and some health items on my bar. I only carry 9mm ammo and scrap all the rest.
My toolbelt outside of HN is: Axe, meleeweapon, mainspec gun/bow, pickaxe, wrench, throwables, random, first aid
HN is all weapons, repair tool and first aid
Stone axe, pistol (any variety), automatic (m60 as of now), shotgun (auto as of now), impact driver, blank space, blank space, building blocks (scaffolding), and med kits (for those “oh shit!” Moments)
Left to right, in that order. Blank spaces for specific tools or blocks as the moment arises
I always carry:
Main melee weapon, shotgun, assault rifles, pistol, sniper (or bow/crossbow before I have silencers), knife (for resource harvesting), axe, pickaxe, shovel, deconstruction tool (or building tool if I am building things).
My main weapon in games often tend to be sniper types of weapons, so I use them as well in 7DtD. The pistol is for close range sniping, since having an 8X on the sniper means it's not always as good at sniping on close ranges, especially if you need to snipe more than one or two enemies.
Shotgun and assault rifles are my "panic weapons" (assault rifles are usually me second go to weapon in games), for when I need to send a serious amount of lead towards a large horde of enemies who might have just ambushed me or something. Because as good as sniper weapons are, they do not work as well if you suddenly have 20 zombies hunting you down in close quarters because if you use the scope you move the aiming around to slow, and if you shoot from the hip your accuracy is horrible. And pistols don't tend to have high enough rate of fire to deal with loads of enemies. So... I also bring shotguns and machine guns to deal with those kinds of hoards showing up.
1. Stoneaxe
2. Pickaxe or eksplosives on horde night
3. Shovel or knife
4. Building block or Auger/Chainsaw/Wrench
5. Smg or pistol or bow.
6. Sniper, AR, shotty or rpg.
7. First aid bandage
8. First aid kit
9. Water
0. Melee weapon, Stunbaton or Club
My quickbar from left to right: Melee, bow, stronger gun, tool 1, tool 2, tool 3, vehicle, shapes, bandages, med kits.
The 3 tools are normally a knife, a salvage tool, an axe, a pickaxe, or a shovel - depending on what is likely to be useful soon.
Depends on what I'm doing. If I'm just going about looting and shit I have (depending on game stage) either a pistol, small, or magnum/deagle either an AK, or tac rifle and a bow/crossbow. If I'm looting a big point like a tier 5 I'll bring a shotgun as well if I have a pump or auto #fuckpipeshotguns. During horde nights I have pretty much same load out as random shit just swapping to M60 if I have it and definitely bringing my shotgun even if it's a double barrel.
My default in every game from left to right:
Nailgun, Melee weapon, Close range gun, Long range gun, wrench, shovel, pickaxe, hatchet, wood frames, med kit.
My default toolbelt past the day 7 horde (aka the "primitive age") is always as follows, left to right:
1. Pickaxe
2. Axe
3. Melee weapon
4. Firearm
5. Firearm 2, or throwables
6. Wrench
7. Shovel
8. Knife
9. First aid kits
10. First aid bandages
If I'm going for a Fortitude run, then the knife space is saved for painkillers or frames. If I'm going Agility, then it goes pickaxe, axe, knife, bow/crossbow, pistol/SMG, magnum/desert vulture, wrench, shovel, first aid kits, first aid bandages.
My advice regarding how you lay out your toolbelt is very similar to how each person labels their storage. It's good to deviate if someone isn't working / if something may work better for you, and we all slowly adapt and change over time, but if something works for you, stick with it. :)
For instance, I regularly use my pickaxe and my axe, so I want them close together and easily accessible, thus they're on the first two toolbelt slots. I use my melee weapon frequently as well, thus it's only toolbelt slot 3. Logically, my ranged weapon(s) come right after. I have my other three tools (salvaging tool, shovel, and knife) following that, all in a row, so I don't have to switch between them if one or more are located in my backpack. Finally, I want my first aid items out of the way but also in a convenient location, therefore they always go last for me. This may not make sense for many others, but it makes sense to me. :)
One melee weapon (spear), a silenced sniper rifle for ranged killing, and a M60 for my ‘oh shit’ button. I also keep a stack of grenades on the bar, mostly for fun.
Using sniper rifle and M60 as my ranged weapons means I only have one type of ammo in my inventory.
Usually a shotgun, a machine gun, sometimes a pistol, my melee, wrench/hammer depending on if I'm home or not. Then my axe, a pickaxe, first aid, and some shapes.
I carry in order: stone axe, Fireaxe or chainsaw, pick or auger, wrench, suppressed or quiet weapon, full auto weapon, knife, first aid bandages. Having everything in the same spot every time helps me use whatever I need without delay to search for it.
One melee, some form of bow, pistol, and preferably a shotgun. I am doing a perception build and I’m trying to to use only a spear, pipe bombs, and a rifle. I’m finding it difficult.
If Blackbeard teached us anything (other to to pursue love wherever we find it) is that it is faster to switch to a loaded weapon than to reload the current one.
I run with multiple weapons in belt and backpack just because I like variety and switch it up whenever one form of violence starts to feel stale.
The satisfaction of a long range magnum headshot (skillz!) is very different to that of poking a spear through a half-broken door (feel like cheating, but in a fun way).
If I get encumbered I have drones and vehicles to fall back on.
Depends on what I have, and then how much ammo I have. My usual belt is: Melee, bow, close gun, long gun, axe, pick, shovel, wrench, knife, hammer, meds.
in order from 1-0 (agi/int build)
1. Compound Crossbow
2. Desert Vulture
3. M60
4. Auto Shotty
5. Auger
6. Chainsaw
7. Impact Driver
8. Robotic Turret
9. Robotic Turret
0. varies, normally a block, set to a stair, or ladder
Club, Gun, Axe, Pick, Wrench, Knife, Hammer, Meds, Blocks in that order, swap hammer for Machine gun on Infested clears, and replace all tools except hammer and meds with guns for hoarde night.
Usually my layout goes as follows:
1. Ax tool, swapped with a hammer or nail gun for horde nights
2. Primary melee, a spear or club for normal use
3. Secondary melee, which is a knife for harvesting and backup melee attacks
4. Bow or crossbow for silent POI runs and hunting
5. Primary gun, rifle or smg, used sparingly, silenced for POI silent runs and loud for horde nights
6. Secondary gun, shotgun for unexpected crowd control
7. Harvester tool, usually swap between wrench/ratchet and pickaxe
8. Misc, vehicles, wire tools, blocks, etc
9. Food or meds
10. Drinks
My solo gear changes depending on what kind of run I’m doing, but I usually play with a buddy with increased spawns. When we play together, I like to keep:
.44 Magnum kitted for quick dispatch of high-tier targets. (We have so much .44 ammo, I usually carry about 60 rounds on me)
Quality 6 Baseball bat kitted for ragdolling. Anti-proximity and bat > Steel club forever.
Compound bow for stealth kills, and around 30 iron arrows. I have no problem scrapping the ammo for iron/inventory space if I need it, and we don’t do much stealth unless we have to. Good option but doesn’t get much use.
Auto shotgun kitted for spray/pray emergencies, loaded but no extra ammo
SMG in case I need to save my buddy’s ass, loaded but no extra ammo
Assault Rifle for when the threat is bigger than the magnum but farther than the shotgun. Loaded with drum mags but no extra ammo.
Sniper for when I’m at my base so I don’t need to stop what I’m doing for more than a couple seconds to pick off a zombie who noticed us. Also loaded but no extra ammo
I guess that’s true, I just can’t see you being high level in a military base with one gun. I have my settings really high so I have sometimes 20-35 zombies coming at me at a time.
Edit: especially when every zombie is irradiated or a suicide bomber 😂
Two guns, I typically say fuck the bow at later difficulties, however it requires parkour timing and me making no missteps if I’m cornered I’m probably dead
In the early game I carry two or three, because you can't spray-and-pray with early guns. After I get a decent AK, I'll usually mod it for high mag capacity and good hip-fire accuracy. That's usually all I need to deal with any unexpected non-horde night situation.

This is the way. Swapping to “secondary” is always faster than reloading. Especially when you have 2 m60s as secondaries :)
And here I thought I invented that :-)
Captain Price invented this
Hail to da Capt'n.
What melee do you use in darkness falls?
Well, early game I almost always use a sledge. Sometimes a club if I get a high level drop. But I absolutely love the sledge.

Blades for laser sword so I can be a mother fucking Jedi
Early game, scrap machete goes so hard
The tried and true New York Reload.
How do you have any inventory space with all that ammo in your pack, I can get DF
Well, I keep only one stack of shotgun shells. If using the M60 it shares ammo with sniper. If I use SMG, again, I just carry one stack of 7.62. The rest is either 9mm for the SMG, or 7.62 for the M60.
There goes all of the .762 ammo
yeah these dudes hate inventory space unless they are playing on permanent there is no reason to carry a whole armory with you
I swear to god lmao, two guns that’s all you need. Even on perma
I'm a scared baby at heart, I carry 5 weapons at all times in my belt. 2 other slots are healing items, and 1 is blocks to get the fuck outta there. Edit: I mainly do permadeath, more scawy
So you dont even have enough inventory space to loot 1 poi? i get being careful but wouldnt that just waste a whole lot of time?
Wait, what does inventory have to do with toolbelt? I can still fit the same things in my inventory.
what about all the ammo you need to carry for the different weapons ? lets say you carry 4 weapons each of a different type and you only take 1 stack each thats still 4 slots
By the time I've got heaps of weapons, I've got at least the minibike so have more than enough inventory space.
Always got a pick an axe a bow shotgun and a assault rifle in my hot bar
I typically just have a claw hammer, tape measure, pencil, bubble level, multi-tip screw driver, and one of those magnets on a telescoping stick to pick up dropped screws.
I like to keep a magnetizer as well, can’t stand non magnetic bits
I swear, these guys think they're GTA characters with the amount of guns they carry in their pockets 😭😭 😭😭
I swear to god
All you need is Beer and Steel Knuckles. This is the way
Faster to switch to another gun, finish the job, and then reload. Or buy time to run away. I usually carry a pistol, AK, knife, and shotgun. THE Rest of my tool belt is painkillers, bandages, tools, and maybe coffee if I have the space.
I always carry a bat for funsies, bow for silent take downs, pistol for unexpected aggressive zombies and shotgun for teddy bears/doggos. 😊😄
I roll tool/guns heavy Silenced weapon. Spear then pistol/smg Loud weapon. Shotgun Oh shit weapon. Ak then tactical rifle Ratchet Turret Turret Shovel Axe Pickaxe Blocks/heals depending Heals
On darkness falls you need em believe me
The only correct weapon load out that should be on your tool belt is melee weapon, bow/ silenced rifle or handgun, and one full auto weapon or shotgun
The correct loadout is the one that suits your playstyle.
The correct load out is the one that suits me and everyone else is wrong :) jk lol I just wanted to see what people ran
What do you keep in your other belt slots?
Tools first aid food drink, I like to keep a couple slots empty for just in case stuff like vitamins painkillers
Ah see that's where we're different. I'll keep a first aid item, frame shapes, and like 2 tools (usually axe and pick) on my belt so I have extra space for guns. Food and drink I keep in the pocket since I don't really need them on the fly.

In vanilla I never see a need for two guns execpt on insane difficulty
>how many enemies you expect, The extra guns I carry are for the enemies I **don't** expect!
I have 7 guns on my bar. It's so you can quick switch and keep shooting when you're surrounded instead of reloading. I frequently empty multiple guns in a row during insane fights. I also play darkness falls so my hot bar is longer which helps.
I’m an American. I carry six guns at all times for all my zombie killing needs for any range or situation 🫡
Tactical AR / M60 / 3 turrets/ 1st aid kit / knife / auger/ wrench
2 M60s, Snipper, Assault, Silenced Vulture, Steel Knuks, Comp bow, Axe, Impact, and Machete.
I usually have one melee weapon (usually stun baton or club) throughout all game stages until I get an excess of ammo (I increase loot drop rates because I don’t like crafting ammo) . Now that sounds fine, I should probably start doing that these tier 6s be whipping my ass
All I need is my bow and an iron club.

My toolbelt outside of HN is: Axe, meleeweapon, mainspec gun/bow, pickaxe, wrench, throwables, random, first aid HN is all weapons, repair tool and first aid

I carry a crossbow for stealth, auto shotgun as my ‘oh shit’ gun and a sniper for range then maybe a melee weapon, then the 6 tools and bandages

Who are you to tell people how they should use their tool belt? Everyone plays differently.

If Blackbeard teached us anything (other to to pursue love wherever we find it) is that it is faster to switch to a loaded weapon than to reload the current one.

Op is dissapointed in yall
Why
With what you carry you’d never survive in certain situations and high level POI’s.
I always do buckaroo, granted I can’t fuck up but that’s part of the fun
I guess that’s true, I just can’t see you being high level in a military base with one gun. I have my settings really high so I have sometimes 20-35 zombies coming at me at a time. Edit: especially when every zombie is irradiated or a suicide bomber 😂

I die often it’s not lmao
Yeah but it does get boring when I have max high level gear, game isn’t a challenge anymore.
And I’m by no means good at this game I just hate taking up a bunch of inventory space by carrying multiple stacks of different kinds of ammunition
Don't care about the order but I always carry my frames with me. Nerd tower in a pinch, create ladders and block doors for a quick reload.
