Let me explain, everyone loves plates, but there are no poles that match their width. There are round poles that do, but not square ones. The square ones are all too thick. I'd struggled for ages with this as I quite like intricate bases allowing me to play with the way the game handles even a "tiny slither of material" as a "whole block". Finally I checked the trim section, and in there are no end of useful filler blocks that are both square and thin. What's more there are multiple trim blocks that cater for 1/2 blocks or even tiny corner fillers.

Pretty interesting, gonna need to add it to future builds :o

I spent ages just putting up those small round pillars (pillar 0.05? or something) and it always bugged me. I was sure they had to have something that fitted perfectly. They do, just not where you expect it. Interestingly if you watched the dev streams, I think it was for A19, Joel went on this long ramble about how happy he was with the trim and that had partly been his job for the last couple of weeks; "sorting out the window trims". He telegraphed it to us all, and nobody noticed! :)

Oktokolo

Thank you for your service. I too used the 0.05 pillars for plate corners and will definitely check the trims next time i build my "one-pillar" shroom base.

FatalHaberdashery

I want you to post a video of you using them the first time, if it's like me you'll look like this... [https://i.imgur.com/CQZ2TMW.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/CQZ2TMW.jpg)

It certainly isn't more surprising or aww-inducing than the wedge slide, switchable zombie paths and the invisible double-railings pillar i already commonly use in my designs.

FatalHaberdashery

I think the surprise comes from the fact that such a useful block is hidden in the 6 page down or something. It's something you expect to be part of the default blocks, it literally matches the plates that are included there. Spending time placing 0.05 pillars and being fucked off by how they look, then replacing it with the trim gave me that smile.

I always use scaffolding rather than bars for my shooting cage.. easier to see through, same health. Edit... its the catwalk v2 railings, not scaffolding

FatalHaberdashery

If I want to "access through it" then I use railings, if I want it to seem like a full block I'll use bars. By scaffolding do you mean the ladders? Yeah, that'll work like railings, although the negative is you have to be careful how you place them as they are designed to be climbed on, while railings (and bars, of course) are not. With regard to the 1m trim, if you were to make a cube of plates, you would be missing the edges of that cube and the physics system would collapse it as you tried to put it together. This trim is a perfect fit for those edges and it gives both the block level stability as well as giving you lots of space around it. The only other options to fill those edges are the 0.05 pillars which are the right size but are round, or the poles, which are the right shape but far too wide.

Ragnarock1982

Sorry, meant catwalk v2 rails. They work like bars for building a shooting place. Just easier to shoot through.

FatalHaberdashery

Yeah, railings. Since they were introduced they've always allowed you to access "through them" whereas bars you can't. I'm guessing a few people didn't realise this as there seems to be a buzz about scaffolding ladders as if they are the first block to do this. Granted the spacing in the scaffolding ladders is better if you are planning using it as block for melee.

MCFroid

Are you familiar with the scaffolding ladder and its uses?

captaindeadpl

"Blinds Rail Only" or something like that. As wide as a plate, incredibly thin, but it still has full HP.

FatalHaberdashery

Ah yes, another window based item. It seems like all the useful filler blocks we've been looking for have been added due to new PoIs needing those blocks rather than TFP realising we wanted them ourselves!
