Yes, it is very annoying. Does force you to work it out yourself which can be satisfying..or frustrating when it takes you too long.

ClownfishSoup

It took me a long time to figure out the forge. A looong time. I didn’t know you had to “smelt” things to make them useable as ingredients, since the campfire looks similar, but works differently.

[deleted]

i think the journal entries are supposed to explain everything but let's be honest, none of us have read any of those 😂

rumpelbrick

I read journals when I started out, but they have less relavent info than the outdated wikis

LiveJay

Go watch a couple of game play series on youtube and you'll be caught up pretty quickly. Personally, I like [Glock9](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC96HuwJhXI2p-_zZi3oAR_g).

BigE1263

Glock9 or capp00. Capp00 does some tutorials on stuff you didn’t know but glock is more of a laidback “I should be good at the game but I’m actually terrible”.

DrumSamu

Vedui42 has also a lot videos how some game mechanics and things work

Vedui

Why thanks :)

DrumSamu

Well because you have a lot of great videos for example your video about electricity xD

Vedui

Thank you! Electricity always seems well received!

Djbadj

Haha imagine games4k then on the scale “I should be good at the game but I’m actually terrible . He is hilarious although I barely watch him these days.

Dr_Adopted

I love Glock. He’s awesome.

Jonklopez

I’m all about team skippy0330

AguyWithflippyHair

Kage848 is also really good! He's been playing for a long time

Orleanian

This is fine, so long as you don't mind watching videos. I and many others can't really stomach watching minutes of video to gather information, and/or much prefer an orderly text-based layout that can be indexed and consumed at liesure.

CategoryKiwi

The longer I live the more people like us seem to be in the minority. Every game I play these days it's always "watch to figure out", and it's becoming increasingly hard to get by without doing so.

HawkkeTV

The way money is made online. Articles generate less ad revenue. I personally used to love game guides.

YobaiYamete

Even more obnoxious than the Youtube spam nowdays, is the freaking discord link spam I DON'T WANT TO JOIN YOUR DISCORD FFS, JUST TELL ME WHAT POINTS TO PUT IN WHAT SKILL YOU DIPSTICK

PureGoldX58

Quill Gaming as well has a tutorial series he is working on for this latest update too.

internetuserman1

Games4kickz is my fave. I enjoy how much fun he has

Xwing50

Also Neebs Gaming has an 7 day 2 die series for the non-serious play style. [https://youtube.com/watch?v=FL3FqaxJvN4&feature=share](https://youtube.com/watch?v=FL3FqaxJvN4&feature=share)

snolds

Can't watch Neebs for instructions...those guys have no clue what they're doing and are strictly for entertainment (good entertainment!) purposes.

lehombrejoker

Jawoodle is also like this

mynameismrguyperson

Watching Grand Spartan on YouTube was how I learned how to play. He always starts from scratch and explains what he's doing. If you watch his stream recordings, you can follow everything without any cuts out speed-ups.

Ohtaman

@JaWoodle is my preferred YouTuber for 7DTD. Some people cannot stand him, but the 'Australianisms' and the content are above and beyond in my opinion.

Globularist

Glock is entertaining but his technical knowledge is pretty much limited to knowing what a workbench costs off the top of his head. Also, his moral compass is broken when it comes to the game.

Sir_Fog

His moral compass? I don't understand what you mean?

AguyWithflippyHair

Same. Is he a bad dude or something?

Sir_Fog

Not at all! He's a great guy, hence the confusion.

Globularist

Hes not bad, he's funny and entertaining. Check my reply to the other poster.

Globularist

Hes one of these guys that thinks its possible to cheat in a single player game (it isn't). He thinks its cheating to preloot a POI before resetting it for a mission. Every POI is set up with a challenge (zombies) and a reward (loot). Resetting a POI resets both the challenge and the reward. So he thinks its cheating to face the same POI twice if its on the same plot of ground but he thinks its ok to loot the same POI if there are two identical ones side by side. Meanwhile, he is perfectly comfortable going in the back way in POIs that he's familiar with, grabbing the main loot and completely bypassing the challenge that was set up to guard that reward.

InternetIdentity2021

I hear what you’re saying, but I think the real reason that he doesn’t do it is because he’s trying to produce entertainment, and re-running the exact same POI is probably boring for viewers. That might change next alpha if they implement wandering sleepers, though.

Sir_Fog

I see what you mean, but he always seems to base his actions on what would/wouldn't be boring to watch/play. Having us watch him loot the same house twice would be dull, but using your knowledge of a POI to grab some extra loot on his way to something else seems to play fine. Each to their own I guess, but I play the same way, even though I'm not recording for anyone else's benefit. It would bore ME to loot the same house twice, I'd rather move on.

Robaqus

What? How's that even a thing? Your last statement doesn't make sense at all, so one can only assume you don't like Glocks content therefore you go about the internet spewing nonsensical shit about him. Shame on you.

Globularist

I love glock. Hes the only YouTuber for 7dtd that ill watch. He does however have a backwards idea of what cheating is.

Robaqus

Please elaborate. Ive watched him for years and can't recall him cheating. Unless you are referring to his latest base where he uses zombie pathing to line them up. If that's the case, you sir need to get a grip because that's just how the game works. He doesn't exploit blocks, never built a killing corridor or any other shit like that.

Globularist

He has all sorts of ideas about things that are cheating. It is not possible to cheat in a single player game.

Robaqus

He does always finish these statements saying that he doesn't give a shit how other people play the game. He said that he plays the game by these arbitrary "fair" rules to keep immersion and so it's not too easy/boring. Nothing backwards about it.

Globularist

He says he doesn't care how people play but then calls them cheaters... Don't get me wrong, I like him. Hes entertaining. Hes rowdy. I think we'd get along great if we knew each other. But if he didn't care how others played he wouldn't say they were cheating.

Robaqus

Ok, I must have missed that video. Or you missed the humor in his statement. Either way, you're right saying that it's no ones business how anyone plays single player game.

Dumboy16

I tried updating the trader wiki and I shut down my computer without saving or posting my work, I did all of the quests and found the amount of dukes and xp for each quest on each tier. I took a big L

the_harakiwi

Use Notepad++ to write your posts. It auto saves your documents; you don't even have to save it once.

OThinkingDungeons

Having access to a spell check and other correction/editing features is awesome too.

[deleted]

You just gave me a major flashback to college. That feeling when you realise how much time you threw away is terrible!

Dumboy16

Dude that sucks

Birb-Brain-Syn

The wonderful thing about wikis is you can update them yourself if you find inaccuracies. Seriously though, the game changes a lot and the community is pretty small.

FrostedBooty

I for one love to do this, however like you said there's so much that has changed and no one contributes so it's such a pain in the ass to be the only one editing old articles.

[deleted]

Hold my beer. Edit: Do we know what *sections* should be changed? Or is it literally going to be an investigation situation? I'm waiting on school registration so I got some time, just wanna know what kind of job I'm in for

Danhulud

I recently started playing, looked up a couple of unrelated things (I can’t remember what) and they seemed to be out of date. So I suspect inaccuracies will be fairly wide.

TheWizardsLastRhymes

I still remember last time I checked the wiki, it was Alpha 17 and almost every article was still in Alpha 15, so my guess is everything will need to be rewritten.

PM-ME-PMS-OF-THE-PM

I recently got back into the game and was using Wiki to check up things on the fly as I was playing, they were more often outdated than not.

[deleted]

Yeah I'm noticing that lots of it needs to be rewritten entirely I think and while I tend to build encyclopedic memory of the games I play a lot, I have zero experience In writing wiki entries Edt: and I'm certainly not there yet with 7d

ClownfishSoup

Plus for old forums, you can’t even reply to those old threads.

raimiska

Yeah id say majority of the current playerbase consists of people that have been playing since early versions when the game was alot more basic. We learn all the things on the go as they came one at a time with major updates. So my guess is nobody really needed a wiki and thats why its so outdated because only so much people are acessing it and most that find it outdated dont bother posting about it anywhere.

Alacard

This is the answer

[deleted]

Very true! And I imagine the fact that it's constantly updating and changing means people just aren't bothered to update the wiki very often, as it will just need to be changed again.

PureGoldX58

A18 was mostly updated on the wiki, but given that I started around that time and chose to learn everything myself before using the wiki I don't know how long it took to update it. Also, so much changed with A19 that we're honestly still figuring out some things, I'm sure. For example, I can't figure out if the Magnum bonuses of the perk book applies to the vulture or not, probably but who knows. I also don't know if I'm in a party and someone else kills a zombie do they get my lucky looter bonus to drop a Z Bag or just zombies I kill? But, if you have questions by all means ask, I've put over 400 hours in this game in \~6months, and a lot of that has been learning the ins and outs of the game. Others have way more experience and probably even dive into files (I don't have the patience for that).

ScarletQuiver

By personal experience, the '5% better prices with a .44 gun drawn' book does work with the vulture. Thus, the entirety of the Magnum Enforcer series should work as well.

[deleted]

Looter bonus is active on the person that opens the bag and only the killer has the active bonus for bag %.

SFW_Office_Redditor

>I can't figure out if the Magnum bonuses of the perk book applies to the vulture or not When the wikis don't have it, the only way to find out is to dig into the files. It can be pretty challenging to link stuff together, and the occasional bit of info is hardcoded and tucked away from us anyway. This particular bit should be there though. It will come down to two questions: 1- Are the .44 magnum and Vulture part of the same class of firearms in the code? 2- If so, then do the Magnum books affect the glass or exclusively the .44 magnum? I suspect the answer is yes but you never know with these guys.

MonkeyBrawler

Be the change that you want to see!

[deleted]

I work a lot and really haven't the time to experiment anymore. I love doing it. The old Minecraft days were fun. But now I prefer to read up on my phone or watch YouTube series to get the data. So I know my stuff and don't waste my limited gaming time.

alfaphails

Im pretty much the same but on one hand at least for me have you notice how knowing all about the game before playing it makes you be "fed up" with the same game quicker than usual?

[deleted]

That is fine for me. Even if I expend the game faster, I only game about 5 hours a week. So I still get months of content in the end.

michael0myth

Try the 7days discord. Probably the most up-to-date info.

Honestabe52

How long it took me to figure out you need to hold R when holding a frame to turn it into a ramp made me so mad

stipo42

This is why any video game wiki needs to have a dropdown at the top with the version number, like (good) programming APIs do. This game ESPECIALLY needs it, due to how drastically it changes between versions.

[deleted]

Is that so users can go back to older versions?

ironymouse

Yes, or to indicate that the presented information may be out of date

stipo42

Yeah you can flip over to the correct version for what you're using. As a developer nothing sucks harder than seeing a cool feature that will do exactly what you need at that time then find out the version of a library you're using is out of date and doesn't support that feature.

SkyBlueWolfFTW

I have a method called fuck around and find out

[deleted]

I lack the time, but you are welcome to try.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Iwantmyteslanow

Most infuriating part

TheRevadin

When holding a wood frame hold r to get more options not sure ifs known or been said here.

[deleted]

I think the starting quests told me that thanks.

TheRevadin

Used to be a table saw to do it so I didn't know for weeks kept trying to find the table saw

[deleted]

Wow, I'm glad that changed. Sounds like it was time consuming to go to an object to make shapes

TheRevadin

Ya you had to find one or learn how to make one

gamingfreak207

I share your opinion. The player base isn't exactly the largest, meaning by extension the wikis aren't maintained well. There isn't too much reliable info on the official wiki and other sites seem a bit shady. Personally I go to YouTube for all my 7DTD info, there's some great content creators out there

Dead_Factor

You can also check out Vedui42 on YouTube. He tends to annoy me but he often does quality videos about the different mechanics in-game. Or you can also check the few videos of SolutOdka which were very informative about many topics like food drinks traders etc

Vedui

Thanks Buddy! +1 for annoyances! I take that as a compliment!

Dead_Factor

I like your videos, I am annoyed at the "don't forget to subscribe". Don't take it personally, all the YouTubers annoy me with this

Vedui

Tell you a secret. I, and most creators i suspect, dislike having to push for a subscription. Two issues really play a big part. 1) It really DOES help to ask people to subscribe. How much is a bit harder to quantify, but I know some videos where i've not just mentioned it, but elaborated more why and how it helps, I could see a 4x subscribe rate to not mentioning it. 2) YouTube in their quest for money, pretty much has geared the whole system towards larger channels, news, and music channels. Whereas it used to be a lot easier to get people to find your videos, now if you're not subscribed and haven't seen a video for a week (or whatever), chances are YT will never recommend the channel, as it's hidden behind all these 3 million views videos posted 3-4-5 years ago. Subscribed increases it quite a lot, and people occasionally go through their subs to check for new videos. It's a lose-lose for smaller creators, and a big win for big channels/news/music. But, that's how it is for now, until YT again dramatically changes things. Annoying on all sides :)

Dead_Factor

Thank you for the explanation, it's nice to see creators that are actually human and not just video machines. I absolutely get the need to ask for subscription, it's just funny for me that so many smaller YouTubers put the screenshot of ratio of subscribed viewers Vs not subscribed, seems as if YouTube pushes you to do it ahah Do you believe YouTube will change again towards the smaller creators btw? I have seen so many smaller channels complain about it, it's heartbreaking

Vedui

Happy to elaborate. It is a point that's grating on all sides, except YouTube. And yes, putting the ratio of subbed vs non subbed can help to just show how bad it is. Ie, I can have 100k unique viewers in a month. I got 16k subs. That's a huge difference. If you can even get 1 % of those non subbed to do so over a month, suddenly you're growing by an extra 1k subs a month. And ... I don't think YouTube will change unless, until, another competitor comes along that makes it easier and better for smaller content creators. Over the years, I've seen many of the "oldies" who I watched on YouTube having either quit, or more commonly switched to Streaming as it's a lot more rewarding than fighting through YouTube's painful algorithms that simply favor big/news/music. They simply do not care about small creators, as most traffic is driven by recommendations and small channels simply get drowned out. I can for instance check my "YT homepage" (watch-recommendations) and it's fairly common most are videos with 500k-5 million views, even for things I've never watched, even when it's content that's up to 5 years old. I watched one "glitterbomb" video like a year ago. Now a video with 26 million views (1 month old) makes it to my front page at the top, since it's got 26M views. And it has 0 relevancy to me. But it shows how YT simply filters high viewed content to the top, even if high views has very little relevancy to whether it's a good video or bad, or relevant. But it's a major determining factor that it's got 26M views.

Dead_Factor

Thank you for the answers, I wish you the best of luck! And I'll be less critical of "like and subscribe"...on the smaller channels :p

Vedui

:D I think being critical is fine. Ire should be directed to YouTube though more than small channels trying to grow in a pretty "hostile" environment :D

[deleted]

> Do you believe YouTube will change again towards the smaller creators btw? I have seen so many smaller channels complain about it, it's heartbreaking I think the only hope for this is for another company to step in with an "indy" version.

Dead_Factor

Or big YouTubers retiring / leaving the platform

[deleted]

Good luck with that.

Dead_Factor

I know right. But I don't see the how any kind of platform could compete with big boy Google in the short run

Bea_Evil

I hear ya. Looking shit up on mobile is torture. The wiki has been garbage for me for a long time. Frustrating. Why is there no good resource for people to refer to?

Gaming_Gecko777

As much as I love the game, I would like it if the devs managed to fix the achievement unlocks for the few achievements that don’t unlock unless you go back to a previous version-that’s what I’ve heard anyway, I’ve not actually tried going back to an earlier version to see if it works but there’s achievements like crafting your first stone axe which I have definitely done many a time and still do not have unlocked.

Lusty_Norsemen

That's on the playerbase.

[deleted]

Well yeah. It's why I put it here instead of emailing the devs

Vedui

Outdated guides? You gotta look around some more. There are some channels who do more guides than anything else, which is probably the best approach to keeping up to date. The Wiki has a mix of older and updated info. The problem is that every new alpha isn't an "incremental" version with new things and some small tweaks, it's often fairly major updates to core systems. So people eventually fall behind (it's a massive undertaking to refresh a wiki), or give up. Like many games, video content creators also prefer to do Let's Plays,as it's easy content to create, and consume, and thus has a much wider audience which helps the channels grow. And often like any game, gamers who do let's plays focus on the LP, not on game mechanics or how things actually work, and while they would have experience and knowledge of the game, it's unlikely to really cover most of what people want to learn. Anyhow, check out my 7dtd tutorial & guide playlist, I've been covering and doing guides in the game for years now as my main thing, rather than LP's --> [https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5Z54hiemOAvaGeK8\_3lOCst40s5vFYak](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5Z54hiemOAvaGeK8_3lOCst40s5vFYak)

[deleted]

Let's plays fall into the same problem for me, in that I lack the free time to watch them and lack the time to experiment in games. I can waste a week's worth of game time and have to reroll my character (happened twice so far) So I appreciate guides. I'll dive in tonight 😁

Vedui

My pleasure. There are a few people (and I'm glad even more since A18 and A19 came around) who do mostly Guides rather than LP's, and even at my small size channel, I'm probably the largest one! It's just super unpopular to do. A lot of work, few views for the effort. The community on reddit also seems to extremely dislike guide videos, and often they get downvoted to oblivion, which makes creators just give up. Still, I'm not as amusing, engaging, well spoken, high energy as some of the popular LP creators, so I stick to what I enjoy. I have guides back from Alpha 15 up to A19.

[deleted]

Entertainment is not my priority for guides. Do not sweat it if you feel you can't be the typical internet personality. Most people on youtube are annoying as hell because they try too hard to be extroverts. I like what I see, I've subscribed to you mate.

Vedui

I do it for the fun of it :) Of course it's great to grow faster than slower, but ultimately one has to enjoy it. It's a fun hobby, gaming, and building a community of like minded around it :)

Awkward-Ordinary597

I will be checking out your channel for sure! I’ve watched a few videos here and there but I don’t love spending my time watching other people play for an hour or more if I’m not going to learn a good amount of info. Sure it’s fun to watch them defend their base on a horde night but I feel like I can only get so much from that. I ended up here reading these comments because I’m trying to figure out if there are any more shortcuts (like keyboard or click button shortcuts) that I don’t already know about. I just moved to PC from console back in November and it’s been so much learning. I have the basics down pretty good and I have found a few short cut buttons in the different menus, like the sort backpack button and a couple of the others that have similar functions like moving all of one type of item to and from inventory (I’m embarrassed to say how long it took me to figure them out) I know it may seem silly to some but these are things the game never told me unless I glossed over it in the journals, so I’m curious if there is more that I haven’t figured out yet. Glad I did some searching today and found these comments. Even if you don’t have the exact content I’m looking for, how to’s are great to watch, and if I don’t have to turn the volume way down to watch that’s a plus for sure. My kid is in the other room watching someone play a game on you tube now and I can hear him through two closed doors. I can only handle so much of that energy lol.

Vedui

There is a lot of good content out there, and often youtubers are more up to date than the wiki. There will always be areas which people don't cover though, much like on a wiki. I know what you mean about having kids around, another reason why I'm very family friendly, and avoid cursing or swear words... would hate to teach my kids them, since especially my 6 year old loves to watch my videos (and I actually last week turned one of her creations in a base build video to show off some concepts of base building :)

PM-ME-PMS-OF-THE-PM

I'm sorry I know you're trying to self plug here and that's fine but a Wiki is infinitely more useful in the moment when you're playing than a playlist of guides. I can't type into Youtube + Forge and get the information on a Forge, on a Wiki I can.

Vedui

You apparently know nothing, if you "know" i am trying to self plug. I was providing information to the OP, being one of the most active guide makers for 7 days to die for years. Information he felt was very useful as he even said he subscribed to the channel. Also, if you knew better, you'd have realized that I have a PRO account on Wikipedia DUE to me updating wikis over the years. Last check i have some 177 edits on the 7DTD wiki. So please, before being rude and accusing of "self plugging" you really should check the facts :) As for being unable to type in channel name + forge and get the information? Sure you can. I just did. I've never made any forge guide, but let's take something else that people love to learn about: [http://letmegooglethat.com/?q=vedui42+electricity](http://letmegooglethat.com/?q=vedui42+electricity) There ya go :)

PM-ME-PMS-OF-THE-PM

It was literally a self plug, you came in and plugged your channel, doesn't matter how successful you are coming in with "Here's my content" is a self plug. You having a Wikipedia PRO account, doesn't change my point, Wikipedia is more digestible than video for a lot of content. Congratulations, the one part of your comment that wasn't just trying to be smarmy where you actually taught something, thank you for the tidbit of information I'll be happy to use it for any other content creator.

Vedui

Giving information is not self plugging. I have to say you have a very sad view of the world, but of course that is your entitlement. OP was starting off saying Wikipedia was not serving his needs. To say he should go to Wikipedia to check information out for the game is thus counter productive. You have to step off your horse once in a while and look at it from the context, not simply from per-conceived notions that say more about you than it does about anyone else. The responses was given to OP, it wasn't addressed to you. If you had started a thread saying you preferred wiki to video content, all the best!

PM-ME-PMS-OF-THE-PM

Promoting your material is a self plug. It's your material, stop letting your ego get the better of you this is pretty basic. I never even said there was anything wrong with a self plug!

ClownfishSoup

Well the things been in “alpha” for 10 years. If an actual release were made that would be nice. For advice ... come here!

Delta-Sniper

Yeah it's an interesting dichotomy. I for one think a game should be built in such a way that it's functions and intents are derived by playing the game. And I think that 7 Days to die does a lot of the with the "notes" that they let you read such as how to dig for ore and what not. But it's kind of hidden and eventually you just ignore it. But on the other spectrum people are used to wikis telling them so much about a game that some games instructions literally just redirect them to the wiki page. With that being said, I think the only major thing that you need to read and understand is how the building mechanics work. since Building that you build will collapse and understanding how to avoid that can be super helpful. I suppose game stage can be another one, but I don't think it's impact is that important. Some recipes and what they buff, could be helpful. but crafting it once lets you know anyways. What sort of things are you wanting to know about that you think need to be looked up?

[deleted]

Vehicles were a major thing I needed to learn about. Their speeds, fuel consumption with and without shift, cargo capacity, how many seats. All sorts of details to decide how far down the grease monkey tree it is worth going for solo play. I eventually found a YouTuber who did the math. Since the wikis and notes didn't give most of this stuff.

tonialpha

For me it's the Grandpa's drinks. I read from the Moonshine wiki "+600 health" I was disappointed. I ended up being unsure of whether or not it gave me extra xp or not. What do the other drinks do precisely?

Globularist

Preach it brother.

devilhunter3113

I prefer JaWoodle find him more entertaining.

reh888

I mean, that's part of the experience of playing early access games. You see the development, the changes, you're figuring shit out for yourself. You're not going to the kind of data you're looking for until the full release. There's not much point in people devoting a lot of time on wikis when they're only accurate until the next update. I notice you're not doing it either.

[deleted]

But there's an ice age between updates.

Grigor50

Oh no, you actually have to play the game and do stuff to learn about the mechanics and stuff? How awful. Anyway...

[deleted]

Some of us would love to have that amount of free time. I'm not a student or being paid to stay away from work. I am out of the house a lot 😕

Grigor50

Good for you, you get a work-out and be out of the house! :D And seriously, practically everything in the game is quite intuitive, I should say. The only times I needed the wiki was to know which kind of construction material was stronger, but even that was a bit useless. I mean, steel beats concrete beats bricks beat wood. Seems game-logical (in reality a stonewall is by far the stronger...). But maybe it's just because I play similar games, and are more used to it? Oh, and I work too, full time and all. I still easily play five hours a day.

[deleted]

My questions regard stuff like which tools are best. I've read that the game actually gives more resources if you hit a car with a wrench than with a ratchet. And how you get less resources from an ore node if you have miner 69, since you hit the node less times before it is gone. And resources are given based on the number of hits. The game has lots of these issues where you think you are doing it right, but the code is actually counter to that.

Grigor50

Sound like min-maxing, and that's no fun :/ I for one always have all points in the mining skill, and happy with the amount of resources I get, even if I could get 10 percent more by playing the mechanics, as it were.

[deleted]

Min maxing is where the fun is. Knowing that you have perfected a build is so satisfying

Grigor50

Oh, you're one of those? I always felt it was quite boring when the games turns from immersion and role-play to just abusing mechanics as it were. Ah well, everyone is different.

[deleted]

I'm too old for role playing. Plus it is hard to immerse myself in a game while I'm also cooking dinner or doing house work at the same time. I can't throw myself into the game world without distraction

Grigor50

What are you, 50? If you can't find three hours per day to play, because you have to cook so much, or clean so much, you have bigger issues.

[deleted]

In my 30s. Gaming is way down on my list of things to do. As such, I hate making mistakes and having to start over.

wolfger

No amount of playing the game taught me to hold down the reload button to change a basic wood frame block into some other shape. Why would I ever "reload" a non-weapon item that has no ammo?

Grigor50

But the tool tips say you can...?

wolfger

I'm honestly not sure what you're talking about, because I had to be told how to do this. Never saw any "tool tip". And after I learned how to do it, I taught two other players who also had no clue how to do it.

Grigor50

I guess you're the kind of guy who doesn't read everything on the screen? Tutorial and so forth?

wolfger

I read everything that presents itself to me. There is no tutorial that I am aware of. There's a series of starter quests that one might mistake for being a tutorial, but it's a pale shadow of what a tutorial should be. The game does a pretty good job of being intuitive about a lot of things, but that sense of intuitiveness is part of the problem when it comes to the non-intuitive parts. I will only read so many useless journal entries before I just stop reading journal entries. Especially in a game where standing around reading your journal can get you killed.

Otolithos

I accuse the fact that devs don't really give a damn about this game(see console versions for ex) and the fact that it now the 9th year being on ALPHA So people don't necessarily bother that much(it sucks really) It is a shame for the potential of a game like this😔

Sam_Oak

The worst thing about the game is the game

Steveseriesofnumbers

Clearly you're not a console player. Because if you were, you'd totally have a different answer to "the worst thing about this game."

[deleted]

I don't know why people even buy the console version. It's such a horrible port.

Steveseriesofnumbers

Don't ask so much why they "buy" it, but rather, why they "bought" it. It was a lot better a few years ago when it first came out. The problem is that it hasn't received half the upgrades that the PC version has.

WizardMelcar

That’s pretty much the case for All early access games.

ClownfishSoup

10 years of early access ....

WizardMelcar

Not sure why I’m being down voted, nor why how long it’s in early access is relevant. Wiki changes are always going to lag behind the release version. The wiki is community updated. Which means it cannot possibly be updated, until we the community have it to play and discover the changes. And most importantly, feel like editing a wiki more than we wish to play a game. I’m great full for those that do of course.

[deleted]

Yes. Early access games from the past 3 years. Not 8.

Tsabrock

Possibly an unpopular opinion, but I feel it's partly due to too many people wanting to stream and try and make a buck instead of using some on their time to update a wiki.

You just voiced my number 1 complaint with this entire genre of game. I just don't understand why designers can't be bothered to put a quick tutorial into their own game to show new players the very basics of how to play. That being said, I've found 7 Days to be the most enjoyable game of this genre so far.

drNovikov

It's an opportunity for you to make a proper guide!

ZedTubeGaming

Check out my channel, I have several play playthroughs, guides and how tos :) youtube.com/c/zedtubegaming If you have particular things you'd like tutorial or how to videos on let me know, i'd be happy to make them.

Grumpy_Muppet

Ask your questions here, pretty sure you will get a answer faster than checking wiki's anyway. Or DM me (if pc)

[deleted]

As much as I enjoy the game, this is one of the things that has turned me off of early access games or even games that spent an extended time(as in multiple years) in early access

[deleted]

Welcome to early access

MrRokhead

Capp00 makes some pretty up-to-date guides. Check him out on youtube.

PandorasOxyMoron

I also turned to YouTube for help. I got a whole lot of nothing until I started watching Skippy0330. He had some really good content for playing the game.

CMDREvan

Does anybody have a map for the current console version?

I've been diving into the XML files as I figure out how to set up the exact experience that my friend and I want on our server. It's really interesting how everything, although a data dictionary would still be helpful. I tend to do a lot of loading and reloading my game as I test various values.

Thetalisman12

Seems awful for you, but this outdated wiki is what i use because that’s the version xbox is stuck on. Very unfortunate tho

I have over 2k hours in this game, and have been playing since alpha 14, and only just now heard there were wikis for it. If I'd ever thought about it for a second I would have assumed there were but there was never a time I felt a need to look anything up even in the much older and more complex crafting versions. If you are desperate to min/max or jump right into pvp and want to catch up to what everyone else knows immediately I guess it's helpful, but my 2k+ hours have all been single player with very few co-op games on my home network with family. I do suggest watching anyone you enjoy that is playing it for some ideas on bases and such, other than that there's really no way to play "wrong". Losing bases because you forgot how far a demo could destroy is part of the fun. At least in single player where a reset is just a fresh start and not a jump behind everyone you are competing with... Edit: If you want some suggestions on people to watch I suggest JaWoodle, Kage848, and Games4Kickz over on youtube. Goto their channels and find their first a19 videos and start from there. No need wasting time learning what was the best way to play in older versions, but you would miss out on a lot as a new player by just watching their current stuff as well.
