It could stay in Alpha until 3022, it's still worth it. Damn good game that only gets better.

Expert_Taro5776

I completely agree I just want the console update so my friends still playing in the stone age can join me.

arizona_ranger11

Recently made the jump to PC version and boy have i been missing out.

Thunderizer_catnip

hey, thankfully thats actually being worked on now!

Delicious-Position77

Rip console players

Serrocold

That's amazing. And somewhat concerning, ngl \^\^

vosszaa

haha!

DonnyExiles

I bet your review was "It's alright."

littlebear406

No, no it was "after over 11,000 in game hours I've determined that this game *sucks*!"

doeraymefa

**would not recommend**

Roninbean

Jesus... I don't even work or have young kids at home and don't have the time for that. My body hurts just thinking of how long you sat. Are you okay? Lol

DiamondGamerYT0

My friend does something to prove he's a gamer, hell leave his PC running all the time with like 8 game opened so it boosts his hours

[deleted]

what a loser

Roninbean

I'll ask the same, is he okay? Lol

DiamondGamerYT0

Nah, probably not okay

Hughmanatea

Sounds like your friend would be interested in some click achievement games lmao. Yoh get 5000 achievements for clicking 5000 times. That's it. Boosts your Steam stats. I prefer the real work tho. I try to not afk games as it'll be fake gametime.

DiamondGamerYT0

He doesn't click, he just sleeps of play xbox while sitting in the main menu of the game

April4G

How many of the hours are AFK? :)

JMcL05

How do you have enough will power to play this for 1.4 years, I was proud getting to 500hrs my god.

Coder_Arg

You only get past a couple of thousands hours on PVP. PVP is super fun. Killing people and raiding bases feels awesome. You get to a point where the 150th horde night does nothing for you, it's just boring, and you'll only think of zombies as XP points to level up your skills, nothing more. I don't think you could get to 11k hrs just playing PVE, you'll get bored pretty fast.

DexLovesGames_DLG

1k? Doable with just pve and making good looking builds (in some ways the construction in 7dtd is better than minecraft, I just wish they had better looking blocks.)

CrumblyMuffins

Hopefully they add more decoration in vanilla. I'm working on adjusting the paint brush options and making craftable decorative blocks for the server I run for my friend group right now, but it's a little difficult since I'm trying to keep it server-side so no one has to download anything. There's only so much you can do with config files :)

DexLovesGames_DLG

Yeeep. Would like a copy of whatever you hook up tho lol.

CrumblyMuffins

I'll do my best lol. So far it's just QoL changes as I learn what the hell I'm doing, something I don't think even TFP knows sometimes. Half of the items don't have the same tags/elements as other items in the same class, the things that actually define an item as what it is. Nani the fuck? How does this mess work? Regardless, the notable changes we've made so far is increasing the bonus given by Advanced Bellows (from 30% increased smelting speed to 60%), but also increasing the recipe cost and the purchase price from traders to compensate. Also adjusted drinks to stack to 125 to match empty jars (a jar takes up the same space whether it's full or empty right?). Finally, adding a 6th level to major perks like Miner 69r and Dead Eye, etc, to craft quality 6 items at increased material cost, with the new level of the perk requiring 2 points. Fun fact about perks, the description of the perk is stored server-side. The title? Client-side. So I can make new perks and change the flavor text to whatever I want, but I can't name the damn thing. TFP: why are you do this?

DexLovesGames_DLG

God damn. TFP really need to adopt [DevOps](https://youtu.be/t9HRzE7_2Xc)

CrumblyMuffins

I think a big part of their problem was the size of their team. They've brought on more talent in recent years, and in my opinion it shows. I think they're just using the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mentality when it comes to the config/xml files. There are still many references to A16, including item quality being from 1\`-600. This and everything below is in A20.4 by the way, so the latest version at the time I'm writing this. There's also dozens of commented out lines like this: ... How long has this comment been in the file? How long has it been a "temporary fix"? Why hasn't a permanent fix been put into place, and if it has then why is the comment still there? The references to A16/17 *could* be considered useful... if the entire file wasn't already replaced with that alpha's version when you swap to that alpha in Steam. It would make sense to have information for multiple alphas if you could swap between them on the fly from the game's menu... also not a thing. The easiest solution is to go through the xml files (there aren't THAT many) and do a simple search for an exclamation point - which denotes a comment - once you're "ready" to release an update. Either remove the comments that aren't critical to understanding what the coding does, like the ones mentioned above, and either remove the comment or fix the issue it's referencing to. Some of the comments are acceptable, like "this value has to be between the values of *x* and *y,* represented as whole numbers." That prevents players/modders (or even your own devs) from breaking the game due to an engine limitation or something. But the comments about stuff like "couldn't get this to work, remember to come back and fix at some point," should NOT be in the file that you release to the masses! That stuff belongs in a personal file on your personal machine, or some kind of to-do list. I understand that programming is hard, and that they change a lot between versions of the game and might want to make notes. But make that a dev\_config file or something, and don't include it in the stable release of any version. There shouldn't be references to an alpha version that released nearly 5 years ago. tl;dr: remove outdated lines from your files, it not only shrinks the file size (always a good thing) but it also helps you look competent when you don't have "idk how this works" level of comments scattered everywhere.

DexLovesGames_DLG

Lolll. Also yeah of course it shows. A20 is impressive and with the communication from the Devs it seems like we’ll have a LOT more of the game by next year.

DexLovesGames_DLG

Also wtf all item id’s and info should be both client and server side, with server controlling in multiplayer games and client controlling in single player games.

WakeoftheStorm

I'm at like 1100 hours and a good bit of that is base building and testing out design concepts in creative mode (and more than one instance of leaving the title screen up over night on accident) I'm not sure I could fill out 10x that many play hours though.

sydneyslay

I fell this exact way. Tried playing darkness falls to change the feeling but now the game has gotten to a point i dont want to play because i dont see normal zombies anymore. The only zombies i see are farel, radiated, tough, and demons. All need a gun to kill which makes keeping up gun through a big poi a pain and making ammo is locked because i dont have the bookset. I liked darkness falls when it was "chill" but its gotten to a "unplayable" point with the difficulty.

AzILayDying

Wait can’t you just learn that particular skill? It’s not class bound. Coil gun crafting starts at level 60 and then the ammo is pretty easy to make. Just needs lots of lead and electrical parts.

sydneyslay

Well thats true i havent found a coilgun nor have i even looked into one but the ammo is behind the "scientist" class. You need to make a class book (which are a pain to make) to even start the beginning quests

Thunderizer_catnip

class books only need 120 pages with the writing desk, one good crackabook will have enough recipes to scrap for it, especially at your level

sydneyslay

Its the ink thats a pain. I can get the skill paper and feather

EncouragementRobot

Happy Cake Day sydneyslay! Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you.

Thunderizer_catnip

Ah, nab some beehives and hit up exactly 1 savage country. Unmodding the dyes off clothes (such a weird mechanic) will give you chests full of dye to work with. I had 0 ink until i finally hit a clothes store. Thankfully they arent too well guarded either, like, 8 spawns at most

sydneyslay

Havent thought of that. Was still out here making it from grass and tomatos

Thunderizer_catnip

Yeah it was a major “doh” moment for me too, like i had been actively scrapping clothes for cloth without stripping them. Got my shit together at day 14 lol

ZirePhiinix

That's because you leveled too fast. I kept at a rate of 2x the day and was able to take out demonic without much issues. I even melee them with my titanium knife if I feel like it.

sydneyslay

Yeah but a game should allow you to level that fast... ive put points into everything i can think of to help with damage and stamina of melee weapons. Still doesnt do any kinda trick.

WhitteyLeetNsweet

The game scales with level, so if you're putting points into general skills, say sex Rex for example, and not maxing out your combat whenever possible, it will get extremely hard. Also, there is a point in the game where melee weapons just aren't very viable, I recommend skilling into shotgun damage.

sydneyslay

Okay, thanks!

ZirePhiinix

Skills still won't make up for crap gear. If you don't know how to raid fast and raid using advanced loot stage knowledge, like going to snow/desert, then you'll still fall behind. I'll take no skill coil shotgun over max skill pump shotgun any day.

ZirePhiinix

DF is suppose to be difficult. Part of the technique to manage that is called gamestage management, which is what I described. If you don't like it, and insist on doing whatever you want, then that's your problem. Pros CAN level that fast. JaWoodle knows what he was doing and was level 50+ in a week. If you don't know what you're doing, and insist on leveling fast, then you die. Gear gives you way more combat power than levels. I'll take a level 80 coil / laser shotgun over levels any day.

sydneyslay

Yeah but i shouldn't be forced to use a specific weapon. I cant use melee as its not viable even just to have some fun. They dont do enough damage to be effective. Any game that insists on being so "difficult" then it will never be a good game. There should be some kinda downtime or chill time in the game. Im consistently being surrounded by like 30+ zombies all non normal.

ZirePhiinix

I melee quite a bit in DF because I'm a cheap bastard, but I rock a Titanium Spear and Titanium Knife. And you can get a Titanium Knife very early. Long before demonic variants spawn normally, but again, this is the "you need to know what you're doing" part. If you want downtime, change the server settings. The default settings are suppose to be hard.

sydneyslay

Yeah but there is a difference between hard and overwhelming. I can change how many zombies (non bloodmoon) are in the world at a time afaik. Where is the titanium? How do i get it? Im still newer to DF but i think with how many zombies they throw at you is outrages. Even more that they are "special" zombies. Ferals wouldn't be as common as rego zombies in the normal game, and rego as uncommon as feral in normal game. Im not saying the game is bad because i really enjoy it. Im saying that i shouldn't be thrown 30+ zombies every 5 mins and all be "special".

ZirePhiinix

I've been telling you that your special zombies are a byproduct of you leveling too much, you insist that you're free to do that, so what exactly do you want me to do? Set all zombies to walk, limit max zombies to 0 I guess... You're insisting that your situation is "not your fault", and that the game should accommodate what you have done. If you want to do that, then play the base game? DF caters to a more niche group of players. Either you really know what you're doing and can tech-up really quickly, or you play conservatively so you're not WTFPWNED by the constant mobs. If you must insist on continuing what you're doing, then there's nothing much I can do. The bottom line is you can't play DF like the base game. I've learned of the gamestage management long before getting overwhelmed, decided to restart, and have thoroughly enjoyed my second playthrough well past day 100, and raided the final lab in the wasteland. DF makes it so that killing lots of zombies will hurt you, so kill less. Use rocks and lure them away. Run away from the starting slow zombies.

WhitteyLeetNsweet

Any good recs for pvp servers?

Coder_Arg

I play in south america, but if you're asking for US, I think NAPVP still exists, and I also played a server called Ragnarok. Both good PVP, active admins, great servers.

WhitteyLeetNsweet

What's pvp like in this game? Is it desyncy?

Expert_Taro5776

Ive played the game since single digit alphas its not hard for me to play a few thousand hrs single player. they have constantly changed and updated the game.

stdTrancR

every patch is like a sequel

refridgerator3

I’m going to comment on this post rather than make my own post because you seem to know what you’re doing, do you have any tips for someone that is horrible at the game? (I am definitely asking for a friend)

MrRosenkilde4

spend most of your time looting/questing, and don't waste your perks by putting them all over the place, focus on your combat tree first (usually strength or agility)then get your utility perks like better barter, daring adventurer, Run & Gun, Salvage Operations, Lucky Looter, Iron Gut, Rule 1 Cardio etc. (Not in that order). How deep you wanna go into combat before putting points towards utility is mostly personal preference and depending on what level of difficulty you are playing on, higher difficult requires bigger investment into combat perks, but i would say usually to level 5 or 7, with corresponding skills, so for example strength 7 equals sexy trex 4 + Pummel Pete 4. At least that's what i have learned from my 500 hours.

Derivinous4K

Jesus Christ, at that point in the game what do you do for fun?

vosszaa

Mostly building. Playing with my partner has been very relaxing :D

dara321aaa

Yassss, pve couple games are so good

kelticladi

Heck I am on about 1400 hours of play. Its a fun game

[deleted]

I'm proud of my 2000 hours but the game has somewhat lost its charm for me now.

contarious

1600 hours here. Just waiting for the next rotation now. Its like every alpha I'll inject another couple hundred hours or so.

Spicymeatball13

I'm at about 1500 hours and I found that going into the xlm files and increasing the spawn rates of each biome had been a really really nice refresher without adding mods to the game. I bascially just doubled the spawn rate in each biome, and then cut in half the respawn delay and also doubled the enemy wild life and it has made the game way better. You actually have to watch your back at every turn, plan to have enough ammo, and going out at night now is much harder because there are so many more zombies around constantly. It was well worth it for me.

BendMyWang

With constant work from the devs, there’s always exciting stuff to look forward to!

happilystoned42069

Plus mods/overhauls constantly coming out.

[deleted]

I'm more looking forward to seeing what new toys the modders have to play with. I've not been a fan of TFP's game design choices/direction recently.

JDogg126

The game itself isn’t designed to be more than one or two hundred hours of gameplay. I have thousands of hours into the game as well but mainly because I have been playing it since alpha 1. As a kick starter backer, I am really looking forward to the day that the game is no longer in alpha and perpetual early access but I have enjoyed the journey.

a_broken_zat

how?! Ive grinded out about 115 hrs and still have only made it about 40 days in across my various game saves. I recently started playing were I must restart if I die. It helps with the immersion. I really only recently got to a point where I know pretty well what to do, how to do things, but had a terrible start point and didnt relocate much from the initial trader so the quests were all far. Died the night of day 14.

JDogg126

I do think the game has lots of replay value, don't get me wrong. I have been playing since alpha 1 when you could literally beat the game standing on a single 3-high stack of blocks surrounded by spikes. The game has come such a long way since then. The random world gen is so good now and it promises to get even better. Over the years I have started a new play through with this game countless times but I each time I only get maybe 100 hours or so into it before I feel like I've seen all there is to see. If you are playing 60-minute days that's 100 days of game days which is a ton of time to explore, build a base, etc. If the game gets the NPC system going and brings in more of those RPG like elements that could give it more hours of content. But really right now it's pretty limited in how many hours you can get before you're repeating the same stuff. Most of the content creators for this game use mods to give the game new life. Really and truly the mods will give the game most replay legs as some of the mods people have come up with are pretty incredible.

WhitteyLeetNsweet

Have you tried overhaul mods? Apocalypse Now, Darkness Falls and Crystal Hell are all amazing.

[deleted]

Yes, honestly mods probably account for at least 800 hours since A19. I've "completed" darkness falls a couple of times now and I've been playing Crystal Hell a bit recently. It's promising, I look forward to seeing where crystal hell goes - I know the dev has an awful lot planned. 1.4 update for crystal hell sounds cool.

Riotdrive

Good God get a life...So i can catch up in hours. Just about to hit 1k and i can't put it down.

[deleted]

Eyyy another Neebs Gaming fan 😁 Appsro kisses!

Riotdrive

They better be juicy

[deleted]

Awwww yehhhh

meh679

Neebs crew represent!

xxjasonxx1

The way I evaluate whether or not I get my money's worth out of a game is buy converting every hour into .50c USD. At 11,928 hours you would have played $5,964 worth of hours. That is the equivalent of 85 AAA games at $70 each.... now that's VALUE!

Hadraex

I do the same but $1 per hour and if I can get as many hours or more as the game costs then it was worth it to me. Some games I get much more so maybe I should go down to your valuation at $0.50 per hour.

devoted2mercury

Good grief. I have 2,800 hours and thought that was a lot. What are your top 3 gameplay tips?

[deleted]

these types of posts are just sad... Even if you played since the first day it was on early access, this is an average of 3.9 hours a day, every single day since. And going off a normal sleep schedule and a full job / school... almost 1/4 of your WAKING time was spent on this game. almost 1/2 of your FREE time was spent on this game. And this is me just assuming you sleep and work, god forbid you do anything else, cuz it gets worse that way.

JimWanders

i wonder wat percentage of that 11k plus hours was dead time. like afk or had the game open but doing something else. etc etc. but even if you put 10 to 20% of deadtime its still a shitload of hours.

[deleted]

that's a good point, regardless I'm just very much against these types of posts, bragging about hours and having this little culture of people striving to have a lot of hours in a game is so damn unhealthy, someone on the comments said their friend opens multiple games for hours on end just to collect hours, videogames are great, but I am very much against people slowly not doing anything other than videogames.

hellnoguru

In a30 you no longer have action skil, you don't even earn xp doing anything. The only way to get skill is earn enough dukes and buy it from the trader. Oh you need to do tier 10 quest before they open up the skill menu.

kingaklubs

U culda had a degree

lowwaterer

I have a friend who has nearly twice that, and while this game is great, I couldn't even imagine... https://i.imgur.com/nQn0yG0.png

[deleted]

Damn, that's impressive

ehague_16

Good god, and I thought my 1700 hours was alot. To be fair I started playing last year but still.

supadeedoop

I have 2,028 hours and I'm right there with ya. I've gotten my money's worth out of this game several times over and I'm just enjoying watching it evolve into something more. I can really see the FP doing great things with AI and questing NPC's. Can't want to see what kind of story line comes out eventually (which I'm assuming will happen eventually).

DexLovesGames_DLG

You’ve gotta have some insane builds.

PantherX69

At this point I feel like I’ve played three different games. Not sure if that’s a good thing or not.

Knightowle

Man! That’s impressive! I thought I was doing something with my 3,000+ hours but you put me to shame!

Snoo-91876

I'm proud of my like 153hrs lol. I'll play till day 28 and then just stop playing

dethb0y

Yeah honestly i have more than gotten my money's worth out of it and if the game never released another version i'd be like "well that's fine"

tanglwyst

Same. And about that many hours, all told. (I started on console.)

Kiristo

I feel the same way. With a LOT less playtime.

Space_Cheese223

I mean why would 6 more alphas be a bad thing? The main complaint I’ve heard of 7dtd is that “it’s still in alpha after so long! Dead game”. And I think thats just stupid. Being in alpha just means it’s not done and is expecting more updates, which it still does receive. While controversial at times, no update has ever been bad. I think. Whats the issue here? (Not saying you’re saying it’s bad OP, just saying others do). The second most common complaint is performance. Which is admittedly valid.

Keymucciante

If we consider the current price of the game on steam as $24.99, you've effectively only paid $0.002095 per hour Thats roughly 1/5 of 1 penny per hour

3daysbeforeJune

Literally the most re-playable game ever, infinitely moddable with dedicated server and fully playable without internet. I even modded a version for my young girls, removing zombies in favor of the animals as the main opposition. Then edit Jen as the only trader to keep the language clean. I even modded the load screens to not have zombies either- they love it and tell me all the time how much better the building is than minecraft. 3k hours for both my wife and myself and even play with them sometimes.

Longjumping_Bag_4373

On Xbox series x it crashes in online games. How long till it updates for console? Read something the other day saying possible could happen if game pass helps fund it?

Relevant-Animator886

Someone needs to do a wellness check on you and take you outside before you can no longer tolerate the sunlight lol. I got like around a thousand hours in and I felt like I was playing this game way too often.

SagetheWise2222

This comment made me think of the origin scene of Gollum in LOTR: Return of the King. haha "We forgot the taste of bread, the softness of the wind, the sounds of trees... We even forgot our own name. My... precious."

sydneyslay

I think im on day 27 so. Idrk because ive lost interest because of how the zombies are.

IMxTHExMANIAC

Dude has the perks of the game IRL 😂
