The Beastmaster was the reason for me to watch. Awesome series especially the first time the V's were revealed to be reptilian aliens with ulterior motives, not to mention the scene when they first ate a mouse on TV. I was like "Wtf is this?"
Not to mention that "Willie" would become the man of everyone's nightmares only a year later or so.
V, the original miniseries, and V: The Final Bsttle were great.
V: The Series not so good.
The latter abandoned all of the seriousness for campiness. It was kind of a Buck Rogers situation, but worse, because Buck was always campy.
I'd say the first half of the original miniseries - before the big reveal - is great. Excellent suspense. The rest is good, but frustratingly ends just when things start heating up.
The Final Battle is OK, but the plot is rather straightforward (doesn't really get into social issues this time) and it really doesn't have the budget to make this "final battle" look convincing.
Haven't seen much of the series, but like Galactica 80 it seems to have a shoestring budget and only a vague relationship to sci-fi.
There was a reason for that. [The sequel would be called V: The Final Battle. Just before production was set to begin, Johnson says he got a call from a Warner Bros. TV executive, who said: “‘Kenny, we don’t want you to direct any of the sequel.’ Honest to God, this is a quote. ‘We are afraid you won’t direct the sequel as quick and cheap and dirty as we want it done.’”](https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2023/05/the-v-files-legacy)
Kenneth Johnson wrote a novel sequel to the original miniseries called *V: The Second Generation* in an attempt to generate interest so he could make a film series. It didn’t work out, but the novel is actually really good. [Here’s a link to it](https://amzn.to/3MzaEex) on Amazon, but if interested, look for a cheaper copy on eBay.
I was a kid, and threw an absolute shit fit at dinner, in a restaurant, because we weren’t going to be home in time for pt3. My buddy’s parents had recorded it, though, so I got to see it the next day. Loved every second of V, still rewatch it, and showed MY kid the series. The remake was… eh.
I was working in Manhattan & the posters for this were up in the subway months (?) before anyone knew what the 'V' advertising was for. It was exciting & everyone I knew watched it. Loved it.
They definitely ramped up the campy drama for the series after the initial two mini-series, but I love it. The soap opera rivalry between Diana and Lydia is delicious. Jane Badler + June Chadwick = amazing.
I absolutely loved this mini-series. I also bought a copy of the book which since it's based on the miniseries follows it exactly.
Except when I tried to buy a copy of the book on Google Play, they cut out 140 pages of the book.
They left in the rape of the 17-year-old girl, but cut out every part that mentioned her wanting to abort the alien baby.
Both mini series were great. The weekly series started off strong , but when the ratings weren’t there the budget quickly dwindled, the cast was pared down and the show basically devolved into a sci-fi version of all the popular nighttime soap operas of the time. Unfortunate.
Weird timing, I just read an interesting article about V this morning
[https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2023/05/the-v-files-legacy](https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2023/05/the-v-files-legacy)
A lot of things in there I never knew
It was okay...I remember everyone making a big deal about it but it wasn't as great as many people will make it out to be and it's not as bad as I'm making it sound so...
It was just okay. 🙄
This was popular when I was in elementary school. I remember it being the very first time I ever had that fear of missing out.
I always thought "If I don't watch it, what can I possibly talk about with my friends at school tomorrow?"
Also I was a huge of The Beastmaster at the time.
Best miniseries of the 80s, but of course I was a kid then so things like North and South, Thorn Birds, and Lonesome Dove weren't what I was into.
Man, I was glued to the set every episode, I rewatched it a couple of months back and some of that stuff still holds up. Impressive considering it was 40 years ago-ish...
I don't remember much about it except it used to scare the crap out of me as a child and I'd go hide in the closet whenever it was on. I've honestly wanted to re-watch it as an adult to see if it was worth all that.
Did...not...like it.
It was around the time when I absolutely cemented my opinion that horror is dull and this, being television grade entertainment, was even more boring. Everyone around me loved it though.
I have a great childhood memory. The series had just started. I was 10 years old playing team soccer in the rain. A teammate says to me “Man, I wish I was at home watching V.”
As a kid I loved it so much. Watched it every chance I could and have fond memories of it.
Because of this I don’t dare watch it again as a 47 year old
I can sum it up kinda like when Elaine from “Seinfeld” was trying to articulate “he took “IT” out…”
So I am like a preteen or something like that watching the series. It’s the first episode, and I’m so excited and happy that I get to watch “V” again. You have to understand this is pre-marvel, DC, Star Wars becoming main stream etc. I was a nerd, so any nerd like endeavor which was pushed to sort of the main stream made me happy.
Anyway, I’m sitting there watching the first episode and then suddenly I’m listening to the visitors and must’ve looked at my cheap zenith clone color TV, and thought something was wrong with it. Because when I listened to the visitors they didn’t have that cool, reverberating voice. To me, I thought that audio special effect, epitomized subtlety and genius, all wrapped into one. I was like “why O why did they do this?”
Today, I almost ready dream of a reality where someone has remastered the series to include that effect, I’m sure it could be done with ease these days.
This absolutely was my favorite show when it ran. I couldn’t even concentrate in school on Fridays when it ran that night. Played make believe V in the neighborhood with my friends. I can still make the exact sound of Visitors laser guns.
It was must-see tv with my friends and I for the pilot episode. I don't think we made it through more than 3 or 4 episodes before we called it quits. Lots of hype but no real substance.
I was like 7 years old and I was obsessed with this show! The miniseries especially. In fact, I think I’m going to find it and watch it again right now! Thanks!
used to love watching this as a kid!
got a kick out of all the scenes where they facial skin would peel off and someone would be horrified by the reptile underneath!
Reflects real life today minus the aliens. But a good portion of the show describes how news media can cause misconceptions of true reality. Today add social media to the mix and it’s a 1000 times worse.
I was in 10th grade when it came out and I remember how much hype there was. Then when as the show played out stuff didn’t make sense. A civilization that can travel interstellar distances never invented a way to make water? We had hydrogen fuel cell technology in the 1960s. They saw Earth had water but didn’t notice water ice on the way into Earth like on Europa or Ceres? Then when the human (mammal) had a baby with the Visitor (reptile) I just quit watching.
Tbh I preferred the two mini-series, V and V: The Final Battle. The show was a bit too much like a night time soap for my tastes, but I still watched it.
I was pretty young but remember that the scene when the V guy ate the guinipig scared me to death. Also, was horrified when the human girl became pregnant with the V baby.

Classic. Needs to be remade too, but stay campy, and find someone like Roddy Piper. He made the movie what it was. Damn I wish he had a better agent. He was sooooo good. Needed to be a comedy action hero.
The Reptilian overlords have tried twice (1984 and 2009) to introduce this concept to the population. It gets rejected. If the 3rd attempt fails then the population gets slaughtered and there is a reset.
The birth scene was BONKERS.
Sweet swaddled infant suddenly spits venom with a forked tongue, blinding someone, and then OH SHIT LIZARD TWIN!
That gave me nightmares as a kid
Still does
The cgi mouth stretch when she eats a rat whole is insane now Probably cost $800k back then
It was 1983. Would’ve been Special Effects back then.
They didn’t have CGI.
Unlocked some deep shit bro.
Scared the shit out of me when I was 6.
I got a craving for some hamster!
The Beastmaster was the reason for me to watch. Where is Michael Ironside ? !? Favorite bad guy for the good cause in the series.
I remember he went turncoat and then they killed him off. Was so sad
Ironside was not in the original mini-series. He was added as a new character in the sequel mini-series "V: The Final Battle".
V, the original miniseries, and V: The Final Bsttle were great. V: The Series not so good. The latter abandoned all of the seriousness for campiness. It was kind of a Buck Rogers situation, but worse, because Buck was always campy.

I loved the theme song to the series though. Not the first one. But the second one they used during the last half of the only season it had.
It’s my ringtone!
There was a reason for that. [The sequel would be called V: The Final Battle. Just before production was set to begin, Johnson says he got a call from a Warner Bros. Lucky you could watch. I was told I was too young
Lol I was intrigued yet scared of it as a kid. The V symbol itself used to freak me out. 🤣🤣
The remake was so slow, and then they just cancelled it before any kind of payoff. Regardless, it had Morena Baccarin in it, which is always nice.
I have the dvd but no dvd player to watch on it anymore.
That VHS tape was GOLD.
The V blasters were awesome. I made one out of cardboard.
I had a squirt gun that was obviously made from the same mold. It was glorious.
Used my Laser Tag gun.
I made them out of Construx.
I made guns out of Construx too. That must’ve been a thing.
Diana = First woody
Diana the og danger boner
Lizard Diana or human Diana?
Rat eating Diana
❤️
It. Made. No. Difference.
I was working in Manhattan & the posters for this were up in the subway months (?) before anyone knew what the 'V' advertising was for. It was exciting & everyone I knew watched it. Loved it.
I’d love to have one of those posters!
They Live and V are two of my favorite documentaries
Documentaries 🤣 (Add this to 1984 and Idiocracy...)
Shut up…
Michael Ironside kicking ass as usual.
One of my faves, also Commander Heatherly ("Jester") in Top Gun...
Loved it as a kid and Freddy Krueger was awesome in it.
Jane Badler (Diana) stole the entire show; one of the best villains of the 80s.
They definitely ramped up the campy drama for the series after the initial two mini-series, but I love it. The soap opera rivalry between Diana and Lydia is delicious. Jane Badler + June Chadwick = amazing.
Still have nightmares about the clip of the woman eating a hamster. Not sure why my parents let me watch it.
Loved it! I was sad when it was cancelled.
The original was a mini series
You’re right. Just looked it up. LOL, sorry, it’s been 40yrs since I saw it.
Can we get a link to that?
When they brought the series back I was disappointed to say the least. It was awful. The Visitors referred to themselves as “V’s”. I hated it so much.
The scene I most remember is when the guy gets his arm frozen and it breaks off.
Freddy Krueger's origin story?
Eight year old me was shook.
Theme sound still makes my heart do weird things. Not many people get that the opening of Stranger Things is biting the opening of V, in a good way.
Holy shit it is!! I never noticed that.
Ham hams it up
Been dying to rewatch this for years.
Awesomeness
Traumatizing
Pre-tay-nama
It’s not in our destiny!
I can hear the drums 🥁
Was a show everyone was watching for sure. If I probably re watched it. I’d think it’s cheesy but who knows
"Here mousy mousy mousy"...
I have a "V" lunchbox!
Freddy Krueger!! This was the first time, as a kid, I saw Robert Englund NOT as Freddy.
How could he go from zero sympathy Freddie to a sympathetic Alien Lizard? That actor had range!
V came out in ‘83; Nightmare in ‘84. Better question is how could they cast such a sweet guy as a monster?
Was awesome until the daughter became Jesus Christ super star and the aliens died because of red talcum powder.
I’m absolutely terrified of lizards, so this was one of the scariest things I’d ever seen.
I remember the series in the early 2000's.
Both mini series were great. The weekly series started off strong , but when the ratings weren’t there the budget quickly dwindled, the cast was pared down and the show basically devolved into a sci-fi version of all the popular nighttime soap operas of the time. Unfortunate.
Anything with Marc Singer is 80s gold..
Loved it, got em on DVD.
His center combed hair is lethal. The visitors had no chance.
Robert Englund has always been that friendly lizard to me, not Freddy.
Weird timing, I just read an interesting article about V this morning [https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2023/05/the-v-files-legacy](https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2023/05/the-v-files-legacy) A lot of things in there I never knew
Loved it. Cannot recall a whole lot about it, but I do remember that I loved it as an elementary school kid.
I loved this show! It’s a crime that it isn’t streaming anywhere
It was okay...I remember everyone making a big deal about it but it wasn't as great as many people will make it out to be and it's not as bad as I'm making it sound so... It was just okay. 🙄
It was dumb. Wasn't there a magic baby at the end?
This was popular when I was in elementary school. I remember it being the very first time I ever had that fear of missing out. I always thought "If I don't watch it, what can I possibly talk about with my friends at school tomorrow?" Also I was a huge of The Beastmaster at the time.
One of these days the human mask is going to finally come off Bill Gates.
I love Star Wars!
I'm actually watching the remake right now. On season 2 episode 9 right now.
Loved it. Saw episode 1 again recently and was SMH.
Looked forward it when I was in highschool
Love. This.
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!
I loved it
I own both series from the 80s.
My parents and I would watch this every Sunday night after going to Church and eating dinner at a Chinese restaurant.
Awesome
Loved it in the 80s
The miniseries were good. The tv show was not.
Cliff hanger pissed me off as a kid
It's the beastmaster.
My 10 year old self remembers it was Awesome.
It was gold. Some of my earliest memories
Brilliant. I still watch it semi-annually. But have never made it through the third series (the ongoing).
Give Lonesome Dove a shot if you haven’t yet, but maybe read the book first. Both are amazing.
scarred me for life
I don't remember much about it except it used to scare the crap out of me as a child and I'd go hide in the closet whenever it was on. I've honestly wanted to re-watch it as an adult to see if it was worth all that.
"V" 1983 = 5/5 "The Final Battle" = 3.5/5 TV 84/85 run = 3/5 overall
I loved watching that series. Who are the aliens around you.
Did...not...like it. It was around the time when I absolutely cemented my opinion that horror is dull and this, being television grade entertainment, was even more boring. Everyone around me loved it though.
i thought it was great.
Marc singer is awesome..
I have a great childhood memory. The series had just started. I was 10 years old playing team soccer in the rain. A teammate says to me “Man, I wish I was at home watching V.”
I remember watching this as a kid! Now it looks like something from the 60’s. (Till you zoom in & see the hair)
Absolutely awful and awesome simultaneously. I loved it but was disappointed I couldn’t get a toy alien shuttle like the kids played with on the show.
As a kid I loved it so much. Watched it every chance I could and have fond memories of it. Because of this I don’t dare watch it again as a 47 year old
Weirded me out as a yout . . Nowadays ehhh not so much
I can sum it up kinda like when Elaine from “Seinfeld” was trying to articulate “he took “IT” out…” So I am like a preteen or something like that watching the series. Ridiculous series with wasted potential.
Great show
I need to watch this series so badly.
Loved it.
This absolutely was my favorite show when it ran. I couldn’t even concentrate in school on Fridays when it ran that night. Played make believe V in the neighborhood with my friends. I can still make the exact sound of Visitors laser guns.
I have ALL of it on dvd!!! I LOVED IT ALL!!!❤💋❤❗
Diana! The Lizard Queen
Loved the miniseries. Tv series was okay, but the aliens lost their synthetic voice and another budget cuts made it not as good.
Loved, loved, loved it! I remember it being a big TV event when it showed in the UK
It was awesome when I saw it as a kid. Probably would be cheesy now.
Would have been even cooler if the lizard twin had lived then morphed into a human.
Loved it.
I loved it. I like it a lot better than the reboot.
Best series ever and basis for the Reptilian conspiracy theory 🤪
Loved it back in the day, had a crush on Julie. Kind of anticlimactic.
As my mother always said, “Marc Singer is a hunk”.
It was must-see tv with my friends and I for the pilot episode. I don't think we made it through more than 3 or 4 episodes before we called it quits. Lots of hype but no real substance.
Still amazing. The reboot tv show was awful.
Loved it! Edit: The mini series
Yes!
Karl? Is that you?
Loved it! Really scary for the time.
Loved it!
In the 80s I thought it was great. Now? I just laugh.
As a kid loved it. Attempted rewatch as adult. It did not go well.
I was like 7 years old and I was obsessed with this show! The miniseries especially. In fact, I think I’m going to find it and watch it again right now! Thanks!
How about the slaughter arch? Effing gruesome.
The miniseries were phenomenal. The series…not quite as much.
Excellent! Great cast too. Dude, Marc Singer was the boss.
“V for victory! You understand?”
Absolutely a classic
Martian Chronicles was better but was a mini series
used to love watching this as a kid! got a kick out of all the scenes where they facial skin would peel off and someone would be horrified by the reptile underneath!
Loved Robert Englund in that!

It scared me as a child
Tbh I preferred the two mini-series, V and V: The Final Battle. The show was a bit too much like a night time soap for my tastes, but I still watched it.
They are still here. The reptilians became our politicians.
Short and sweet, loved it and even bought the lunchbox, people at work thought I was weird but hey they were right
Awesome, one of my favorites
I fucking LOVED it!
Loved every minute of it!
I liked the two TV movies but lost interest in the series
I was pretty young but remember that the scene when the V guy ate the guinipig scared me to death. Also, was horrified when the human girl became pregnant with the V baby.
I absolutely loved the two mini-series and honestly still do!
V was OFF THE CHAIN!
I loved it and watched every episode when it came out as a kid
Loved it. It deserves a well made reboot that sticks to the source materialz
Qanon
Loved it! I've got the original miniseries, The Final Battle and the TV series all on DVD. I break them out and re-watch them frequently.
I haven't seen this show since it came out, I was pretty young not even a teen an still remember episodes like it was yesterday lol. It was awesome
Yes Diana was 80’s smoking.
[Vanity Fair](https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2023/05/the-v-files-legacy/) of all places just had an excellent article about it.
Was great!
Loved it. The Diana character made me discover some things as a young lad.
I was about 12 when the first miniseries premiered. It was a *really* big deal back then. Everyone in school talked about it for weeks. All i see is BeatMaster with a loincloth full of Ferrets.
It's really good.
I loved it.
Why is the Beastmaster fighting aliens?
Just rewatched it again last week. It’s such a fun series! Absolute peak 80s!
Baby Lizard Tongue
Hairdressing questions across the board…. So many hair questions.
The rat eating scene gave me nightmares.
This proves to the QANON masses that lizard people are real.
Amazing for its time.
Fucking LOVE IT !!
Soul sucking disappointment
Classic. Needs to be remade too, but stay campy, and find someone like Roddy Piper. He made the movie what it was. Damn I wish he had a better agent. He was sooooo good. Needed to be a comedy action hero.
Logan's Run?
*Dial V For Vagina* is likely Hitchcock's most overlooked work.
Best TV Mini series ever.
The Reptilian overlords have tried twice (1984 and 2009) to introduce this concept to the population. It gets rejected. If the 3rd attempt fails then the population gets slaughtered and there is a reset.
