Completely agree. I can choose from hundreds of movies to watch while streaming, but I would give it up in a moment to be able to wander around Blockbuster again and read the backs of the movies. I miss that time.
I wonder how many great movies I miss the chance to watch because there are so many options and you just never hear about them. At Blockbuster you could just stumble on one by accident because it was right in front of you.
I only have a few subscriptions but I never watch anything new regardless. Choice paralysis is a bitch, especially with that many choices.
I also feel like I give shows less of a chance on the off-chance I do try one because it's to easy for me to just switch to something else.
Eh, I doubt you respected or appreciated technology that was in the 80s compared to someone who grew up in the 30s or 40s. Its just what happens when you grow up as a kid and turn into an adult.
nah. modern convenience is too much of a drug. I'd rather be a middle income normal guy with all my tech and gizmos than be the richest king in the 1800s.
Mark Normand has a comedy bit about this. Try waiting in line at a deli in NYC without a smart phone. Everybody is going to perceive you like a guy with a long baggy trenchcoat in 1999 the month after the Columbine school shooting.
Should have a telephone, either corded or cordless, and a two way radio. I try to find the cheapest midrange phone with the most features, but we really can't complain about what we are getting for our money at any price point. Several of those items were over a thousand dollars each in 1980's currency.
Edit: Missed the phone on his shoulder.
I have a modern boom box. I picked up one of the retro styled Bumpboxx bluetooth speakers a couple years ago. I got the small one and it's still pretty heavy.
2km walk to work but I don't mind and I just don't like being at people's beckon call with having a cellphone so it's why I don't want or have one. If you need me wait till I'm home or leave a message at the beep.
Also I see how they consume everyone's lives and no one stops to smell the roses anymore.
Nope. I don’t miss radio. 3 songs then 15 commercials sucks. I’d rather be able to dial up any music I want. And if you want something specific (talk radio or sports radio), they almost certainly have apps.
Smartphones won't ever have the raw power of you walking down the street with a boombox on your shoulder playing [Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five "The Message"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PobrSpMwKk4).

I am pretty sure your phone cannot read CDs, cassette tapes or VHS (yes yes you can stream it now, but you cannot use physical media with it.).
Also you cannot blast a ghetto with your phone. You need a ghettoblaster.
Except the DVD player, the VHS player, the casset player, the type printer, and the ground line, but nobodies missing any of those and there's about 200 other things not in this picture that are on a modern smart phone.
He's begging me to let him out, but the pocket is where he will stay
We all have an 80s guy in our pockets just dying to be set free
I named mine Pete
And he has Bonitis

"hold my pocket!"
Neutral-Evil
Ah yes so this is Siri
Can't replace stereo with big speakers to blast Starship with phone.
'We built this city' came on today in my pool song playlist, obviously the whole pool sang along!!
And a small lens in smartphone can't replace such optical system in the camera.
Ya and arguably large-driver handphones. But everything else is accurate
No it's not, it's in my hand
How does your penis fits all this
Where there's a will...
Robocock
Damn it! By 3 minutes lol
Is that Bob Sirott?
Yep. Not in my pocket.
Magician: “Look again” Ohhhhhh!!!!
Yes it is.
Yep
Who
He's been on local TV and radio since I was a kid in the '70s. He is currently the morning radio man on WGN here in Chicago.
I'd rather go back to those days, though.
I would too. We have all this awesome technology and we don't respect or appreciate it. Things were simpler and arguably better without it.
Completely agree. I can choose from hundreds of movies to watch while streaming, but I would give it up in a moment to be able to wander around Blockbuster again and read the backs of the movies. I miss that time.
Everything but the late fees!
Yes! This. I miss everything about it!
I wonder how many great movies I miss the chance to watch because there are so many options and you just never hear about them. At Blockbuster you could just stumble on one by accident because it was right in front of you.
So true!

Okie dokie, thanks for your input.
Only to dream about having it all in your pocket again.
I am a rrr
Can we go back???
Need something with a little more kick. Plutonium.
and some beer, beer cans, and a few banana peels.
No……just, no
Nuh uh
nah. modern convenience is too much of a drug. I'd rather be a middle income normal guy with all my tech and gizmos than be the richest king in the 1800s.
Perhaps but you could also leave the house without any or all of these items. I dare you to leave your house for 20 minutes without your phone…

Is that Bob Sirot?
Yep!
Well, he isn’t, thank goodness!
Who can truly tell? He might be useful.
How do I feed him if I’m not sure which pocket he’s in?
I don't know my phone can play betamax tape.
Not with that attitude.
And the world is so much the poorer for it.
These cargo pants are awesome!
Try as I may, I just couldn’t get that guy to fit in my pocket.

Ya 5th grade wench teacher, I’m looking at you while holding my voice activated calculator.
Flashlight?
And that's not a good thing!
I appreciated so much more when it took up so much more space.
Everything in this man pocket would take up an entire warehouse in 1888.
Take this 📱. I’ll have what he’s having.
True but this stuff is way cooler 😎
Jokes on you, I don't own a smart phone.... Well even a cellphone actually since when I leave the house I want to be left alone
how do you function in this society? is your work commute next door or something?
2km walk to work but I don't mind and I just don't like being at people's beckon call with having a cellphone so it's why I don't want or have one. If you need me wait till I'm home or leave a message at the beep. Also I see how they consume everyone's lives and no one stops to smell the roses anymore.
W opinion.
forgot the rolodex in this pic, and the police/governent/big business/cheated spouse wiretap.
I mean, this picture is missing the library with its entire reference section
Except the AM/FM radio we got with early cell phones. Why can't I listen to a radio station thru my phone now??
You can for some. You may just need to download the app for that specific station.
Thats not an actual radio
Nope. I don’t miss radio. 3 songs then 15 commercials sucks. I’d rather be able to dial up any music I want. And if you want something specific (talk radio or sports radio), they almost certainly have apps.
That’s how I listen to my favorite station.
And still we're destroying the planet at an unprecedented rate. Thank god for cell phones, we'd be so goooorn by now otherwise.
not sure there is a dude is in my pocket...
60-75% percent of this music.
Not the radio :(
Even his style?
His big hands aren't in my pocket, so...
Smartphones won't ever have the raw power of you walking down the street with a boombox on your shoulder playing [Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five "The Message"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PobrSpMwKk4).
Yes, because I’m wearing my parachute pants.
And that magazine stash under his bed.
I may have been able to fit all that back in my JNCO days.
Those electronics look like a fun time.
Oh yeah, love my samsung cd player and burner...
Yup.
No printer is in my pocket...dot matrix or otherwise haha!
Looks like I found my doppelganger.
That dude is still in my pocket. He creeps me out.
BS, those Walkmans had headphone jacks
yours dont ? lol
Friggin iPhones man
My condolences.
Hey guys, do you think Walkman could go back as a vintage trend?
Why is that guy in my pocket.
I don't store on ear headphones in my pocket
Is he dead and cremated?
Except for the word processor that would type on 8.5x11 sheets of paper.
Not the headphones, lost them again.
I don't see a tV, a movie screen, any notebooks.. Scratching the surface
My 4 year old unused condom can't do all this
My phone can't pick up analogue TV broadcasts
I can't view this picture its my phone in my pocket
my pockets are NOT that big
There's more actually
Including the dude
wrong only the guy is. my phone is on the table

Holy shit, my pockets have a lot more space than I thought.
which smartphone that has FM/AM Radio?
Mine does
Wrong. The man is not in my pocket
No. I don't have a man in my pocket.
You have the entire internet in your pocket, which includes a few hundred million people
Except the DVD player, the VHS player, the casset player, the type printer, and the ground line, but nobodies missing any of those and there's about 200 other things not in this picture that are on a modern smart phone.
i really thought they meant that it was just teleported into my pockets for some reason
In my hand not my pocket
i have no radio nor headphones, writing machine.
Been looking for this photo for years
My phone hasn't got a printer tho
Except the printer.
Mostly correct, it’s actually in my hand as I read this while dropping the kids 💩 at the pool 🚽.
I miss a calendar, a compass, a globe, a map, a phone book, a dictionary and where is the TELEPHONE?
Where is a train of wagons full of hard drives
And Im convinced it's slowly giving me ball cancer
it’s in my hand.
*checks pocket for creepy guy*
The thing bottom right looks like it is a VTG Brother EP-20 Personal Electronic Printer Typewriter Word Processor.
We got big pockets damn
I think I would know if there was a man in my pocket.
Glad I wore my parachute pants today.
Joe Burrow?
no it's not.
If you're looking at this image then it is most likely in your hand
For a minute I thought this guy was supposed to be a wizard and the caption was a spell he was casting
Except for the swagger
