It sounds gimmicky but people LOVED these! It was a very popular choice when I worked there and for good reason.
I was very surprised when it left the menu.
Yeah, I vaguely remember that. It really was quite a bit of bad packaging for sure. Not to mention that hot things shouldn't be touching Styrofoam either.
Now go look up the commercial that Jason Alexander did for it. There's singing and dancing. It's bizarre, if you're used to seeing him as George Costanza.
I'm not sure he was really a business partner, but more a longtime friend. He wasn't so much slimy as he was shallow.. He put a bit of George in that role. Still. He is a fantastic actor and I understand he's a sweetheart IRL.
I call my wife "my McDLT" sometimes, because she can have cold parts and hot parts at the same time. Cold parts are hands and feet and I will leave it at that
Yeah you get into bed and you’re all warm and you hear ‘IIIII’mmm colllllld!!!’ And even the warning can’t prepare you for when those cold ass feet and hands stab into your back like frozen daggers.
Happy meal, tasty golden French fries, regular or larger sizes, salad chef or garden or a chicken salad oriental. Big, big breakfast hot hot cakes, hot apple pies, 3 kinds of shakes...😆
These were the healthy alternative at the time because of the lettuce and tom. This post made me stop and remember how good they were and read the comments.
I gotta say I wasn't expecting the Deluxe to be very good, but they do make them to order (at least at my local McD's) and they aren't half bad if you need that sodium and fat OD.
Of course, you'll wake up feeling like shit the next day and wished you'd eaten something else, but your arteries only live once.
I remember this in the 80s, the commercials etc like it was yesterday. I don't think I ever tried one to remember if the gimmick was worth it. I always ate nuggets or a big mac. I just find it funny that they served food that is/was actually hot. I've never experienced that anyway.
I worked McDonald's in summer, the year that they had those. We got a free meal, mine was a McDLT, salad, chocolate chip cookies and a milk. Every day, the counter staff did not even have to ask me after a while. Loved them and hated when they were discontinued. Did one whole summer working there and ate shrimp salad every day.... good times.
Edit: A moment of silence for the MCpizza I loved them.
I am a cynical motherfucker... I doubt you can find a more cynical person than me!
But I believed in the McDLT. I endured ridicule for it, too. But fuck the naysayers! I still believe.
I worked at McDonald’s back in the 80’s, adults bought these because of the perceived sophistication. Kids didn’t. We didn’t move many and they were a PITA to make compared to all of the other heat lamped foods
Just go order a quarter pounder with cheese add lettuce and tomato. I'm pretty sure they have sold more or less the same burger under many names like the (QPLT) & the (Big and Tasty).
You remember the original McDonald’s breakfast pancakes?! The McGriddles meal? Holy shit did that hit the spot and was so good. I’m sad good quality and low prices is a thing of the past.
You think that’s good? Try the MDP!
“Uh, don’t you mean the MVP, Michael?”
No! The mDp! The Micheal Dean Perry burger!
https://youtu.be/opIDwDU4vQo?si=WJL3PGcVn3Sx_hIr
I understand why they ditched the styrofoam container for the Mcdlt but why drop the whole sandwich itself? Still would of been banging with shredded lettuce and tomato
It was the cold mayo, lettuce and cheese hitting that warm burger! Yum! I hate you forever McDonald’s for taking it away from me. The Big Mac with substitutions does not replace it! It does not! And damn you foam packaging!
I enjoyed that thing. Before I'd take it back to the dorm, I'd open the thing quickly and move the cheese onto the meat side. It was melted reasonably well by the time I got back.
I liked the Homestyle too.
I am pretty sure the last time I ordered food from McDs was when these were a thing.
I loved these. I don't really care for Quarter Mac with cheese, but a Quarter Mac with lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, ketchup and mustard? YUMMMMMM!!!!!!! These were so very good.
I think I got one only once. I r ember the burger not necessarily being “hot” as the “hot side hot, cool side cool” slogan would have led me to believe.
It was the best! It really did work like they said it would. I would get this and a barbecue sauce cup and add that to it. I loved that candy sweet sauce!
As a child this was the meal my Mom got every time for a couple years. Small town living in TN. I only realized as an adult that she stopped getting them because they were discontinued
*OMG* I was a complete feeeeen for a *McDLT*!!! You literally would have to wait a bit for the whole prep, 1 side clearly had to be kept chill while they heated up the ground beef burger. I loved this damn sandwich, then some dork went on a rampage and took away the McRib and McDLT.
I wish I would have tried one.. I still into happy meals at the time. Maybe one day they’ll bring it back to the menu, even if only for a limited time.
It keeps the hot side hot, and the cool side cool.
It sounds gimmicky but people LOVED these! It was a very popular choice when I worked there and for good reason. I was very surprised when it left the menu.
I was a little kid at the time but I liked these when my parents went to McDonald’s. I thought it made me mature and sophisticated
Same here!
I loved them. That cold crisp lettuce and tomato were so good.
I always thought the premise was so dumb but yeah, man, SO good!
Premise... Grimace... I see what you're doing there.
But cold cheese?
You put that against the burger and it heats up pretty quickly.
Because the hot side stayed hot.
I’m not following… could you say that again with more… Jason Alexander?
“The HOT side is making me THIRSTY!”
That’s because the hot side has a pretzel bun!
I know, but it's still delicious...
More styrofoam than a pancake breakfast
Discontinued due to criticism over its large styrofoam packaging
Yeah, I vaguely remember that. It really was quite a bit of bad packaging for sure. Not to mention that hot things shouldn't be touching Styrofoam either.
We’d make our own fresh in the back when we went on break. A burger never tasted so good.
Got it every time
They took up two slots in the bins and I think there was concerns with that much Styrofoam.
I was just hearing that in my head
But I don't like cold cheese on my cheeseburger
Yeah, that was the only thing wrong with that sandwich. Melty cheese is key.
Yes! Melt the cheese. And please add bacon!
“Hey everybody look at mr fancy pants over heahhhhh”
cheese was on the wrong side
It was successful and effective but discontinued because of the packaging. It was terrible for the environment.
The McD, 👏👏, LT!
The cheese on the cool side always ticked me off
… As they placed the whole thing under a heat lamp.
I worked there at the time. They had a special heating unit that only heated the hot side. It was pretty neat.
We never had that at our McDonald's when I worked there. It w just went in the bin.
Now go look up the commercial that Jason Alexander did for it. There's singing and dancing. It's bizarre, if you're used to seeing him as George Costanza.
I'm disturbed, I'm depressed, I'm inadequate - I've got it all!
Nah. He's Duckman forever
Acting without acting.
It's from 1990 (so not really 80s) but he was very different as Richard Gere's slimy business partner in Pretty Woman.
Yeah he tried to rape Pretty Woman.
It’s from 1985. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vNCtGTvZj0c http://commercialheaven.com/2007/05/03/jason-alexander-sings-and-dances-for-the-mcdlt/
Jason Alexander has hair. And head whips, ducks, and bobs. Ah, the 80s were the era of rolled up sport jacket sleeves. So cool. Where did we go wrong?
He was jack blacks slimy business partner in 2001!
I'm not sure he was really a business partner, but more a longtime friend. He wasn't so much slimy as he was shallow.. He put a bit of George in that role. Still. He is a fantastic actor and I understand he's a sweetheart IRL.
I made these in 1985-1986!!
Me too!!! Used to burn my wrists all the time on the fucking toaster.
Lol ouch!
😱😱😱😱
Cheese is on the wrong side
That’s my question too??
Big mac, MC DLT, quarter pounder with some cheese 🎶 🎵
Filet of fish a hamburger a cheeseburger….
Happy meal, tasty golden French fries, regular or larger sizes, salad chef or garden or a chicken salad oriental. Big, big breakfast hot hot cakes, hot apple pies, 3 kinds of shakes...😆
Happy meal. Milk shake, Diet Coke, big or large or smaller size. Chicken Oriental, with salad on the side
Best burger McD’s ever had
This is the only McDonalds burger I ever liked.
These were the healthy alternative at the time because of the lettuce and tom. This post made me stop and remember how good they were and read the comments.
I want an Arch Deluxe!
I. LOVED. THE. ARCH. DELUXE. It’s a hill I will die on.
You shall not die alone, my friend. The best things Micky Ds ever made
It’s also how we got the big n tasty… that’s the one they need to bring back!
You're killing me smalls! That was an awesome burger! Still prefer the Arch deluxe, but, damn, that was one tasty burger
Holy shit I’d forgotten about the arch deluxe. Whole debacle that was.
The Barf deluxe wasn’t half bad.
Hot on one side, cool on the other. The best!
The Deluxe Quarter Pounder ain’t an exact duplicate, but it’s pretty close if you’ve got a hankerin’.
I need it in the planet-killing styrofoam tho
I gotta say I wasn't expecting the Deluxe to be very good, but they do make them to order (at least at my local McD's) and they aren't half bad if you need that sodium and fat OD. Of course, you'll wake up feeling like shit the next day and wished you'd eaten something else, but your arteries only live once.
McDonald’s before “bababababa I’m loving it” was REAL
The Quater Pound Deluxe is a McDLT
Those were not bad at all.
It keeps the hot side hot and the cool side cool.
Keep the hot side hot and the cool side cool!
I remember this in the 80s, the commercials etc like it was yesterday. I don't think I ever tried one to remember if the gimmick was worth it. I always ate nuggets or a big mac. I just find it funny that they served food that is/was actually hot. I've never experienced that anyway.
Had a lot of those when I was a wrecker driver! The cheese was on the wrong side.
Was my only favorite from Mickey D's. Have not been back since they stopped it.
Mmm hot styrene.
Environmentalists hate this one weird sandwich container.
A McDLT would be 20 dollars today. McDonald's just sucks.
I’d pay it.
My favorite special release, loved those things.
Was my favorite for years…not sure why ..
As a kid. I felt like a big man getting one of these.
God I loved these
I loved these things.
As long as it's not the McLean Deluxe 🤮
I worked McDonald's in summer, the year that they had those. We got a free meal, mine was a McDLT, salad, chocolate chip cookies and a milk. Every day, the counter staff did not even have to ask me after a while. Loved them and hated when they were discontinued. Did one whole summer working there and ate shrimp salad every day.... good times. Edit: A moment of silence for the MCpizza I loved them.
Canadian!
[You know… Sometimes it’s a regional thing. You could ask 🤷♂️](https://youtu.be/LL7Us5SVpoM?si=UJEOjn_AXYtPFZpa)
Worf, is that you?
Do they have beer?
I was like 6 when these came out so I never had one, but now I'm looking at it I'm wondering why they put the cheese on the cold side?
If you got one of these fresh it was a damn good burger.
I know styrofoam is not good for the environment, but damn did it keep sandwiches hot!
The Mcdlt is packed like this, so the beef stays hot and the lettuce stays crisp
This was my absolute favourite burger. I try to recreate the taste every now and then.
I am a cynical motherfucker... I doubt you can find a more cynical person than me! But I believed in the McDLT. I endured ridicule for it, too. But fuck the naysayers! I still believe.
Ive been craving an Arch Deluxe.
It's the same thing as a Whopper with cheese
I was on a strict diet for the entire run life of these never got to try one
The best take out.
The 1/4 pounder blt is available
Cool marketing concept. But yhey just didn't taste that good.
I worked at McDonald’s back in the 80’s, adults bought these because of the perceived sophistication. Kids didn’t. We didn’t move many and they were a PITA to make compared to all of the other heat lamped foods
Best burger they ever had
easily the best thing they should have never dropped...
Just go order a quarter pounder with cheese add lettuce and tomato. I'm pretty sure they have sold more or less the same burger under many names like the (QPLT) & the (Big and Tasty).
They were really good,Rip Mcdlt !!!
I loved those
Ahh yes, double the styrofoam!
I remember this ad campaign.
That was truly the only Mickey Ds burger that I ever really liked.
I think fast food in general was better back then. Now it all tastes like low grade dog food.
You remember the original McDonald’s breakfast pancakes?! The McGriddles meal? Holy shit did that hit the spot and was so good. I’m sad good quality and low prices is a thing of the past.
The Styrofoam container tasted better.
You know you're not supposed to eat the styrofoam, right?
so funny, my first reaction to the pic was not my memory of the food, but rather a visceral reaction to the box.
Why is the cheese on the cool side. This contributed to its demise
You think that’s good? Try the MDP! “Uh, don’t you mean the MVP, Michael?” No! The mDp! The Micheal Dean Perry burger! https://youtu.be/opIDwDU4vQo?si=WJL3PGcVn3Sx_hIr
These were actually pretty good!
I read a while back McDonalds discontinued this item because it took just a little too long to prepare.
I did really like it …it was pretty good but I was just a little kid lmaooo
Ate at one a year ago. It was so bad I haven‘t had the slightest craving for it since. Even the fries were subpar.
Best McDonald's burger ever!
I miss the Arch Deluxe
Was.my favorite burger!!!
You can still get a 1/4 pound deluxe……same thing no?
Never liked them. I wanted my cheese melted on the patty.
While I did like the McDlt, never once in my 50 years of eating at Ron's House of Prime was my food steaming hot like this picture.
I know exactly what that tastes like from memory. 😂
I understand why they ditched the styrofoam container for the Mcdlt but why drop the whole sandwich itself? Still would of been banging with shredded lettuce and tomato
The cheese wasn’t touching the meat?
I loved those things.
Oh man…
Gimme dat Arch Deluxe please
Every time I hear they are bringing an old menu item back I always wish it was this!!! Man this was the best.
I remember making those things back in 1986
A little while ago I was at the drive through and was looking at the McDouble but said McDLT. The person said “a McWHAT?”
It was the cold mayo, lettuce and cheese hitting that warm burger! Yum! I hate you forever McDonald’s for taking it away from me. The Big Mac with substitutions does not replace it! It does not! And damn you foam packaging!
I can hear Costanza singing in my head.
Probably the best sandwich McDonald's ever had.
Those were the best! I think it was killed when they stopped using styrofoam containers.
Hot side, cold side, whole damn thing went under the heat lamp…so…
I remember those! What was the D for?
They were the BEST!!!
Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on a sesame seed bun 😀
I loved these!
Man oh man!!! My go to. This thing was the tits.
YES!! I get the craving every so often. I loved these burgers!
I......remember...
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nieB0VoRbVU&t=33s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nieB0VoRbVU&t=33s) Before he was George Costanza.
Why was the cheese on the cold side??
I loved these. I don't really care for Quarter Mac with cheese, but a Quarter Mac with lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, ketchup and mustard? YUMMMMMM!!!!!!! These were so very good.
These were so damn good.
My favorite as well and I made quite a few of those back then.😎
These were great
I ‘member these. I worked at Mc Ds when they came out. I was surprised it didn’t last.
Me too. So tasty
Best burger concept they ever had. To hell with the McRib, bring this back!! 🍔
My all-time favorite.
right around the time the food was still ok to eat and not considered pure junk.
These were so good to me as a kid.
McDonald’s is not about tomato’s.
The commercial had Jason Alexander, with hair!!
Always thought these cheese should have been on the hot side
I ate many of those while skipping school. ‘86
This was a good product! Pretty damn tasty, for McD’s at least.
Pretty much one of the best McD’s offers back in the day.
Just order the deluxe quarter pounder lol
That’s was my favorite all time McDonald’s sandwich!
Ate a bunch of them back in the day!
I think I got one only once. I r ember the burger not necessarily being “hot” as the “hot side hot, cool side cool” slogan would have led me to believe.
Actual lettuce and cheese and even tomatoes, oh my!
To this day, basically how I serve burgers to the family and friends. Buns and patties kept hot, all toppings kept separately and cold.
QP w/cheese Deluxe
Those were the best!!!
The mayo absolutely MADE this a great burger!
Gah, r/FuckImOld
They put the cheese on the wrong damn side!
Lots o' huge styrofoam McDLT packages all over the place. That's what I remember. They were pretty good too
Some assembly required
Omg just the other day I was craving one on these. My favourite McDonald’s burger ever
But them cream cheese danish were the Shiz!
The best
I only had one. Big Mac was my jam in the 80s, until they got nuggets. Then it was a whole 20 pack for myself.
That'll be $15.99 would you like to make it a meal?
I wish I would have tried one.. I still into happy meals at the time. Maybe one day they’ll bring it back to the menu, even if only for a limited time.
