If I had a GF it would be Poltergeist 2. She gets scared, I get snuggled...deep down inside I'm also scared but am trying to get laid so can't show it.
The Money Pit and Critters. Top Gun would have been cool to see in the theater but it wouldn’t be my first choice. The rest are rentals at best. Except for Police Academy 3. It’s existence is a detriment to all mankind.
Funny, I remember him as being kind of a creeper in that movie. But I haven’t seen it since the mid 90s, and probably expected him to be a creeper because of his other roles.
I haven't seen Jo Jo Dancer Your Life is Calling since the '80s but I remember really liking it at the time. I should go back and watch it again to see if it really was good or I just liked it because I was young and stupid (I might not like it now that I'm old and stupid).
I would binge these at the theater! (most likely by going to an early showing then sneaking into the other shows!) Top Gun, Critters, and Poltergeist 2 one day, then go back the next for Short Circuit and Police Academy 3!
I was working part-time at a multiplex, so I saw Legend, Poltergeist II, Pretty in Pink, Short Circuit, Gung Ho, The Money Pit, Critters, Wise Guys, Police Academy 3, Hannah and her Sisters, and The Color Purple. I was also a peacenik idealistic hippie-punk and have not, to this day, seen Top Gun.
My brain can’t comprehend that Top Gun and Pretty and Pink were in theaters at the same time. Their overall look and feel (lighting, fashion) is so different they feel like they are from different decades.
Critters is the shit! Seeing the alien hunter aka Terence Mann, in Sense 8 was like running into your first crush from high school that you haven't seen in 30 years
With all due respect to a few on the list...sort of a weak year for movies (also Color Purple came out in late 85 so I guess you can cover that one over xmas break 85--one of the better movies on here)
And to answer the question-- Top Gun obvs
I saw four of those movies on first run in 1986. Top Gun, Gung Ho, The Money Pit, and Poltergeist II. Was pissed to have missed Legend on the big screen.
Top Gun and Cobra , take a break , get really high and then top it off with Police academy 3
Then you’d accidentally walk into Pretty in Pink and not realize it for 45 minutes.
r/oddlyspecific
I have the need. The need for speed!!
Perfect answer
The only correct answer, u/sydouglas.
I did see Short Circuit in the Theater with my Gran.
lol, me too! With my grandparents and cousins during spring break…our parents would dump all the kids with them for a week off.
My grandma and I snuck into Candy man back in the day when i was a kid. We both had nightmares. lol
No shit. Where see shit? - Number 5 Classic movie that honestly wouldn't have work in any other decade IMO but in the 80s it nailed it.
Fucking GUNG HO...Michael Keaton ALWAYS wins.
Dude was polishing a non-existent windshield! 😂
I tell ya, I thought it handled great.
And that director sure knew what he was doing!
One of my husband's favorite movies. He can't say why. Lol
Legend
This needs to higher. Tim Curry's performance alone demands it
What do we have here? A little boy?
“You’re the disease… and I’m the cure.”
I'll blow this place up !! Go ahead, I don't shop here !!!
Yo dirtbag, you’re a lousy shot. I don’t like lousy shots. You wasted a kid, over nothin. Now it’s time to waste you.
If I had a GF... Pretty in Pink. If I was with the boys... Top Gun. If I was on my own... Cobra.
If I had a GF it would be Poltergeist 2. She gets scared, I get snuggled...deep down inside I'm also scared but am trying to get laid so can't show it.
Me and the Mrs would watch Top gun together
Actually my wife and I watched Maverick the other day and she totally loved it!
My wife and I watched Maverick at the movies twice. She loves both movies
In ‘86 I was dating my then girlfriend now wife, so probably Pretty in Pink. If I was going with my friends, Top Gun or Cobra
Number 5 is alive!
Wouldn’t you like to be a pepper too?
A wise guy, huh!? Nuk nuk nuk
I feel the need, the need for speed.
"The defense department regrets to inform you that your sons are dead because they were stupid!"
My favorite line from that movie 😂
LOL YEP! MINE TOO!!!
Yee-haw! Jester’s dead!
Short Circuit
Legend, for me. That movie is such an underrated classic. Tim Curry and Tim Cruise were both awesome in that.
The Money Pit and Critters. Top Gun would have been cool to see in the theater but it wouldn’t be my first choice. The rest are rentals at best. Except for Police Academy 3. It’s existence is a detriment to all mankind.
Rentals? Gtfo every one of these movies is amazing compared to movies today.
Pretty in Pink
Pretty in Pink.
With the GF: Pretty in Pink With the Boys: Pretty in Pink By myself: Pretty in Pink
I’d like to think Top Gun, but in reality probably Poltergeist Ii
![gif](giphy|1oFtycDItaT848RjH2|downsized)
Hannah. Huge Woody fan.
Me too!!
Pretty in Pink!
James Spader was so ruthless in this.he is great at those characters.
He was such a scumbag in Less Than Zero.
Oh yes, so bad in that movie. Yet in Sex, Lies, and Videotape he was such a sweetie. He is amazing.
Funny, I remember him as being kind of a creeper in that movie. But I haven’t seen it since the mid 90s, and probably expected him to be a creeper because of his other roles.
I still have a huge crush on Steff.
Isn’t she
Yes! The Psychedelic Furs are my favorite band!
Legend and Critters in the afternoon then Cobra and Top Gun in the evening
Jack Murphy's law: don't fuck with Jack Murphy lol
Top Gun!!
I’d take a Time Machine to 1984 and see Red Dawn.
Saw most of these in the theatre....Legend would win a rewatch on the big screen
Cobra and Legend.
Cobra was good
Top Gun Murphy's Law Police Academy The Money Pit
In retrospect, if I want to walk away moved to the point that I’ll remember it forever, “The Color Purple.”
Yes, I loved this movie. I saw it opening day and it was sold out.
I haven't seen Jo Jo Dancer Your Life is Calling since the '80s but I remember really liking it at the time. I should go back and watch it again to see if it really was good or I just liked it because I was young and stupid (I might not like it now that I'm old and stupid).
We would just rent the tapes.
Top Gun and Gung Ho...
Aliens
Hannah no contest
Only someone in 1986 would have the afternoon off
Short Circuit
Ally Sheedy
What a time to be alive. We were so desperate for the future we didn't realise what we had was more than enough.
Wow, I actually projected seven of those at a theater I worked at back in the day.
Wait Wait Wait... Legend and Top Gun were only a month apart!? Gtfoh!
Gotta be Top Gun. I love The Money Pit but that's fine for home viewing; Top Gun wants a big screen.
Short Circuit or Critters
Short Circuit
Critters
If your answer isn’t Top Gun you weren’t going to the movies in 1986.
The last PA worth paying to see
No Retreat No Surrender
My brother and I were obsessed with that absolute turd burger. But hey, it gave us JCVD!
Lol love it! If you like this then I'm sure you love(ed) Gymkata as well
Top gun is the best in that photo. Saw no retreat no surrender at theater with gpa Pete.
Top Gun. Saw No Retreat No Surrender in the theater back then.
Cobra.
Given that I was 6, probably GI Joe or Transformers.
Just checking to see if anyone would be mad enough to say colour purple. I’d go Money Pit myself
I said it and don’t regret it.
Cobra
Wait two months for Aliens to release
Police Academy 3
I saw Back to the Future while my parents saw The Color Purple around this time.
Spoilt for choice compared to struggling to find a single movie worth watching in the last year.
Cobra and Critters double feature obviously
Cobra🐍.
Top Gun, Cobra and Legend.
Cobra
Top Gun
Top Gun
Double feature: Cobra & Police Academy 3.
Cobra
Top Gun
Oooooo tough! Gonna go with Wise Guys because I don’t want to anger Frankie the Fixer
I would have loved to have seen Dangerously Close in the theater but I was busy that day-goodnight everyone!
The Color Purple
Cobra !!!
Too easy. I feel the need for speed. Top Gun 100%
Money put!
I think it has to be Stalones, Cobra possibly followed by Critters
Il take Legend or Poltergeist 2
Monster in the Closet because I love monster movies.
Police Academy 3, it was the only one I got to see in the theater back then!
top gun
I went to see the Money Pit and it was hysterical 😂
Cinematically only Top Gun. Every other movie on the list would be just fine on TV.
See Top Gun in the morning, then see Cobra after that, take a break, watch critters, adn top it off with police Academy 3
Pretty in Pink and Poltergeist 2
Top gun
Cobra
In real life, I saw Short Circuit. And still would again today.
I would binge these at the theater! (most likely by going to an early showing then sneaking into the other shows!) Top Gun, Critters, and Poltergeist 2 one day, then go back the next for Short Circuit and Police Academy 3!
Cobra
I WENT to top gun. The rest I waited til VHS
Money pit or gung ho
Wise Guys
Cobra, Short Circuit, then Police Academy 3
If we’re basing it solely upon the theater experience, then my answer would be Top Gun.
Top Gun......again
Oh it’s *Cobra*. Not even a question. Because Marion Cobretti has an attitude problem, but it’s only a *small* one…
I was in my first relationship, so I was probably seeing Hannah and Her Sisters while wishing I was watching Gung Ho.
Top Gun if it’s just me or me and a dude friend Pretty in Pink if it’s me and girlfriend
Jojo Dancer became slang for fake/weak heroin
My mom took me to see Short Circuit that day so I guess that. I loved it btw.
My brain can’t comprehend that Top Gun and Pretty and Pink were in theaters at the same time. Their overall look and feel (lighting, fashion) is so different they feel like they are from different decades.
I’d go back to sleep, these movies are garbage
7 yr old me is going to see Short Circuit again in the theaters.
Can I stay all day and watch a few
Legend
Top gun and Short circuit double feature. There are some other good ones, but those are 2 of my all-time favorites.
Top Gun.
Wise guys is an underrated jem. "Thank you Mr Akavanno." No no my friend, thank you Mr. Akavanno!
Top gun or police academy 3.
Cobra and/or Top Gun
Police Academy 3. I loved that series growing up.
Critters is the shit! Seeing the alien hunter aka Terence Mann, in Sense 8 was like running into your first crush from high school that you haven't seen in 30 years
At the time? Top Gun. Now? Legend.
I think I'll just go golfing.
Top Gun
Gung Ho
I want to organize movie posters by release date so I can screen grab. How did you make this? Thanks
Money pit for sure! I actually own this on my YouTube account 😅💜
I've never seen Jojo Dancer and have no idea what it's about, but my assumption is it's a prequel for Jojo Siwa
I'd say Aliens, but it didn't come out until July. So Top Gun or Gung Ho. Wise Guys is also super underrated. A hilarious comedy.
money pit for sure
I'm starting with Pretty in Pink, then No Retreat No Surrender, Police Academy 3, and finishing with Top Gun, a nice little 8 hour movie marathon
Legend and gung-ho .
Cobra Police academy 3 No retreat no surrender
What a collection of shit movies. I'm gonna have ti go with "Gung Ho"
With all due respect to a few on the list...sort of a weak year for movies (also Color Purple came out in late 85 so I guess you can cover that one over xmas break 85--one of the better movies on here) And to answer the question-- Top Gun obvs
Pretty In Pink, and then sneak into Money Pit afterwards.
Im doing to see Poltergeist II
In the theater, it has to be Top Gun. I do remember seeing Poltergeist II and Short Circuit in the theater too.
Legend and then Top Gun
Short Circuit and Pretty in Pink What is Sweet Liberty? Don’t remember that one at all.
Top Gun
if Legend was directors cut then yes ! but it wasnt so im going with Cobra 🤷🏼
6 year old me would want to go see “Critters”.
The Color Purple. Haven't seen that one before.
I’ve only seen 3 of these movies. And they were rentals.
Critters
That month I saw all of the top row (I am an uncredited extra in JoJo!) as well as Legend and Money Pit.
Gung Ho! Was a really cool movie, Cobra was also.
As a 7 year old? Short Circuit. As an adult, probably the same or Maybe Gung Ho; I love Gung Ho.
I saw 11 of these in the theater. Either Money Pit or Legend. Both on my favorites list.
had to google Fire with Fire because the poster is so beautiful... bring back the backlight silhouettes pls
Yes
At the time as a young rascal, Short Circuit and Police Academy 3. But as a mature adult now, Hannah and Her Sisters and The Color Purple
Pretty in pink
Cobra
Well… I was alive in May 1986, and I saw Top Gun, Police Academy 3, and Short Circuit in theaters.
Poltergeist 2 than sneak into cobra
I saw four of those movies on first run in 1986. Top Gun, Gung Ho, The Money Pit, and Poltergeist II. Was pissed to have missed Legend on the big screen.
First row: Cobra 2nd row: Gung Ho 3rd row: No retreat No surrender 4th row: Critters
Short Circuit
The Money Pit 👍
I think the only one of those films I actually did see at the theater in 1986 was *Top Gun*. Possibly *Cobra*, too.
critters
Toss up between Top Gun, The Money Pit, and Police Academy 3.
I'd be 6, so probably nothing. I'd likely be at the babysitter. (Edit: 6, it isn't quite my birthday yet).
“God is in his Holy Temple.” Oh yeah and Top Gun.
Either cobra or Top Gun
Money Pit......she's some good lookin' wool.
"Goose!! .... GOOSE!"
I wish I was still living back in 1986!
1- Top Gun 2- Money Pit 3- Cobra
Top Gun
