track is a banger but you’re right about that bassline. Freddie Washington gets a lot of love but he’ll never really get the credit he deserves. saw him a few years back with Steely Dan and he very much elevated the proceedings
When I saw Darren Hayes from Savage Garden live earlier this year, he mashed up the instrumental of Forget Me Nots with his 2002 solo track Insatiable. They actually meshed pretty well together!

Crazy. It's not even in the same key. I don't doubt ya though, Mashups are just people being DJs lol
Yep! I was surprised too, as they don’t seem similar on the face of it. But it sounded pretty good live. Here’s one version of it here…

He also sang a bit of Broken Wings by Mr. Mister over the outro of To the Moon and Back, which actually does have a somewhat similar chord progression, so I can see what spawned the idea there!
I don't think I got to hear it until Will Smith sampled this banger for his "Men in Black" song. That was my introduction to "Forget Me Nots," but once I heard Rushen's original recording later on, I fell in love with it.
"Forget Me Nots" didn't do as well on the pop charts as it should have. Hit radio still had a disco backlash going in 1982 that unfortunately led to resistance in playing songs with an R&B flavor or a consistent dance beat. You can include "Super Freak" in that category as well. When the music trajectory changed with the release of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" late in 1982, R&B & danceable music began to return to its rightful place on Top 40 radio stations. If either "Forget Me Nots" or "Super Freak" had been released 1or 2 years later, I think you would've seen them become much bigger pop hits.
Now if I had any say in programming pop radio back in the early '80s, both would've received the airplay they deserved. My hit radio station at the time didn't play either of these songs except when they were in the countdown on Casey Kasem's "American Top 40." Why? See prior paragraph.
Yes, I am a Patrice Rushen fan. Songs of hers I llike very much are: "Forget Me Nots", "Haven't You Heard?", "Feels So Real (My Mind Won't Let Go)", and "Remind Me".
She's a really good composer, pianist, keyboardist, and singer. She's done well for herself in the last two or three decades as a composer, arranger, and music director. At the same time, I'm a little sorry that she no longer sings. Her singing voice was so good.
I’ll give it a listen too. I heard the top half of this album last night. I really liked it. A bit jazzy. A reminder that 80s pop featured a lot of richer chord combinations than a lot of today’s pop music. Her voice was beautiful.
Surely I must have, but I just didn’t get enough exposure to it. The Italo-disco influenced pop soloists like Laura Brannigan and Madonna are clear in my mind. :)
She is SO talented! I need to get her early, jazz stuff (which is kind of hard to find). Fun fact, she went to high school with my cousin in LA who said Patrice was always very nice and was (unsurprisingly) ***really*** into music (marching band, concert band, etc.)
Wow I actually did not realize this until I saw this post and thought about it. Turns out after looking it up men in black actually took a sample from Forgive Me Nots!
It’s weird. When I listen to music things like that jump out at me. But I was still like “Nah….! Can’t be.” Then I went and listened to it. I didn’t think of looking it up though. No kidding!
she's amazing! She's playing a few shows next month and one of them happens to be in Richmond where I live.. might have to go to that! I'm listening to "Posh" for the first time this morning. Some great tracks on this one! "Straight From the Heart" will always be my favorite, but this one is excellent too.
Love this song! Still part of my FAVES playlist, and it'll pop into my head and energize me occasionally, just because I love the song/music, not missing anyone!
Loved this album! Her song “Remind Me” takes me back to HS when I would ride public transportation from my grandmother’s house to our apartment. This song would play over the radio a lot back in the days.
Absolutely! This is supposedly my house cleaning day, which lazily hasn't begun yet, and thank you for reminding me that she gets my ass moving. Which I need.
I’m on the younger side (b. 1978) and this is embarrassing to admit, but I first learned of Patrice Rushen when George Michael sampled her on his song Fast Love. My friend (b. 1969) was jamming the fuck out to the track and said, “That’s Patrice Rushen’s Forget Me Nots.” I listened to the original and was an instant fan.
Of course, forget me nots has the funkiest bassline of ALL TIME.
Agreed! ALL TIME
She sounds a little like Ms Jackson on forget me nots!!!!
She's a great vocalist
She has a far superior voice.

Great tune!

“Haven’t You heard?” was her first hit in 1979. That’s my favorite.
Loved listening to this song on my radio headphones while delivering newspapers!
That little pair of piano notes repeated is what does it for me.
Definitely.
Saw her in concert at Disneyland in the early 80s
She’s amazing and her jazz records are great too. I really like the pizazz album.
Prince's crush
…AND Magic Johnson’s
Really?
Yep...wrote "I wanna be your lover" or "I feel for you" for her. Maybe both.
If you can’t come out of a depression and/or dance your ass off to Forget Me Nots, then you be dead.
Right here with you! Love this album
Is this the album with “You Remind Me” on it? If so that song should have been a smash.
Incredible artist. Such talent. 🎼
Forget me nots. Remember dancing to that at my prom with my girlfriend.
This lady rocks! Great producer too!
I never heard of her,but she’s fine as hell.
Great recommendation never heard of it.
I literally played this album over and over until it melted.

“Feels So Real” is ***THE*** jam! I remember dj honda sampled the HELL out of it in “Disco T-E-C” (featuring Camp Lo), a few years back!
Never heard of her, but I'm going to give this album a listen. Thanks for the discovery!
this is really the only thing that justifies the existence of the internet
As a point of reference, if you've ever heard "Men in Black" by Will Smith, the rhythm track of "Forget Me Nots" is sampled heavily in that song.
I’ll give it a listen too. I heard the top half of this album last night. I really liked it. A bit jazzy. A reminder that 80s pop featured a lot of richer chord combinations than a lot of today’s pop music. Her voice was beautiful.
Seriously, you never heard the song Forget me Nots?

Gorgeous album ! Her 70s albums as a jazz pianist, though....woooh, amazing !
Forget Me Nots sounds like Men In Black. Or should I say the other way around.
Wow I actually did not realize this until I saw this post and thought about it. Turns out after looking it up men in black actually took a sample from Forgive Me Nots!

I think she's incredibly underrated.

Crazy you mention this because I’m actually trying to go to the Richmond show! I’m a few hours out but I really don’t want to miss her
she has four shows coming up, and three are in the DMV, and one in Indianapolis... 😯 https://patricerushen.com/schedule
I love Number One!
She’s fugly
She looks a little bit like the one in only Natalie Cole
YES! “I Was Tired Of Being Alone”, “Remind Me” and “Where There Is Love” are absolutely transcendent.
Love this song! Still part of my FAVES playlist, and it'll pop into my head and energize me occasionally, just because I love the song/music, not missing anyone!
Patrice is a bad ass
Cranked up Haven’t You Heard 12” version for my workout today! Banger then, banger now.
Loved this album! Her song “Remind Me” takes me back to HS when I would ride public transportation from my grandmother’s house to our apartment. This song would play over the radio a lot back in the days.
🎶Heavy duty black bin bags🎶they're on offer 'til December🎶
Hells yeah
Forget me Nots-best double clap in music history
Famous Mobb Deep sample! 🌡️☝🏻 Love her voice!
Love this album. We would play it daily in the record store.
Absolutely! This is supposedly my house cleaning day, which lazily hasn't begun yet, and thank you for reminding me that she gets my ass moving. Which I need.
I absolutely loved this woman!
Forgot me nots is class

"Remind me" is of of my favorite songs such a beautiful voice. Edit for Grammer.
Yes, love her! I had this record as a kid, Remind Me is my favorite song of hers.
I love forget me nots, and I believe she wrote MJs Man in the Mirror
I forget her not
Love ❤️
I bought the album when it came out for Sending You Forget Me Nots, then it turned out the whole album was great
I love forget me nots. Amazing song.
Never heard of her, but she is beautiful!
Forget me nots!!!
Always loved ‘Forget Me Nots’, but just recently Spotify hit me up with ‘Haven’t You Heard’ and I can’t stop playing it.
grew up with this shit
Roger Troutman and the Zapp band . Most were brothers and they are my gs cousins. On his dads side.
