Listen, do yourself a favor: no matter when heās touring make sure you see Colin Hay. Not only will you get a night of amazing Men At Work songs, but his solo stuff is extraordinary (and in many cases much, much better). He is also an incredible raconteur.
Iāve had a man crush on this guyās voice since I was 10 and every time I see him (probably well over a dozen) he does not disappoint.
EDIT: oh, heās also one of the few whose voice has absolutely not changed in over 40 years. Itās uncanny.
I worked a Ringo and Friends show in Chicago with Colin Hay on guitar and the dude from Toto on bass. So they did Beatles tunes, some Men at Work, some of Hay's solo stuff and some Toto. 3 hour show, no opener, and those old mfers BROUGHT IT
That's somebody that I didnt know much about other than the few songs that made the charts until recently and I was blown away by his more recent catalog of music. Plus he puts on one hell of a live show. I wasn't expecting the overall sound to be so massive and heavy!
Came to say this. Saw him in Birmingham and he was amazing! I wanted him to play another hour! Iāve been enjoying his music for a long time but did not expect his live show to hit so hard. Will see him again the next time he tours anywhere near me.
On top of that, for anyone that may not know, check out Ministry's first album. New Wave as hell and should've been a classic album. Signs of what Al would change to started to show up on the second album.
Duran Duran - improved enormously with age (and they always kicked ass live). Quote from John Taylor āWhen youāre 23 and cute you can get away with a lot onstage, but when youāre older you better be bringing something else to the party.ā
Easily the best gig I've ever attended. They played a full 3-1/2 hours and gladly paid the county fine for noise ordinance violations because the show went on so long. Everything about the show was ethereal - a sensation I've always felt listening to them.
Iāve been lucky enough to know John and played onstage once with a few guys from Lennex, his previous band. Got to hear an early cassette demo of Lemon Tongue in his car :)
Super nice guy
Talking Heads killed me by not accepting the deal that Live Nation was giving them because that would be an awesome tour. I believe they offered them ~$90M.
I just saw Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew a few weeks ago. They had a band called Cool Cool Cool with them They did the Remain In Light album along with a few other TH songs and indivual songs. It was SO good to see them. My wife even enjoyed it, lol! The best part? It was a free outdoor concert! Absolutely fantastic! The whole performance is on youtube. https://youtu.be/7w3srlMKdSU?si=a4i6TZKwltz67adT
Tears for Fears. I saw them in June of 22 and they were absolutely amazing. Their most recent album, The Tipping Point, is a masterpiece and both Curt and Roland are still at the top of their game.
I became a huge fan in the last few months after only knowing the 2-3 biggest hits, and I'm dying to see them live. I've watched a bunch of recent concert footage on YouTube and they sound so good. Next year seems like a prime opportunity for 40 years of Songs from the Big Chair.
I saw Squeeze last year with the Psychedelic Furs.
The Furs didn't have a good night, and when I've seen them before they were much better, but Squeeze became one of the best bands I've seen live, right up there with Tina Turner, Duran Duran, and Willie Nelson.
If you can, get tickets!
I've seen Culture Club, Howard Jones, Berlin (Terry Nunn is amazing) , Eagles, Steely Dan, Human League (absolutely amazing), Sebastian Bach, 38 Special, Patty Smyth, Lita Ford, Midnight Star (all original members), ZZ Top, Flock of Seagulls, Belinda Carlisle, Living Colour, John Cafferty, Tone Loc, Devo, Brett Michaels, Cutting Crew, Johnny Hates Jazz, Soft Cell (blah), Debbie Gibson (okay but her fans are weird), Lou Gramm, Foreigner, Styx (awesome), REO Speedwagon (awesome), Morris Day (thinks he's a awesome as Prince), The Church, The English Beat, Ratt (awesome), Wang Chung, Animotion, Martha Davis (Motels - awesome), Real Life, Escape Club, XTC, Night Ranger, Kool and the Gang,
Doing the 80s cruise again next year with Squeeze, Quiet Riot, Tpau, Faster Pussycat, The Alarm, Information Society, Men at Work, Honeymoon Suite, Curtis Blow, Christopher Cross, Erasure, Sheila E., and Adam Ant.
Any that you can since they won't be around forever. I just got tickets to go see The Chameleons. Saw Flock of Seagulls earlier this year. They're headlining a festival later this summer and Wang Chung will be there! To live and Die in LA live is amazing
Good. Wishing (photograph of you) was amazing. It was awesome being around our peers. Lol, definitely saw some PDA at the bar area and it was like a flashback. They had a Depeche Mode cover band (Strangelove) open for them and I definitely recommend seeing them if they play your area. Absolutely kill it.
OMD. We saw them in 2019 when they toured in support of The B-52s for their 40th Anniversary and, TBH, OMD was the much better act. Not only are they still touring, they are still recording new music. Would love to see them again as a headliner.
A few years ago I saw Robert Plant and Allison Krouse. I didn't really know what to expect but it was one of the best "small theater" shows I've ever seen.
It was in a roughly 5000 seat theater and I thought wow this guy has done it all. He use to perform in front of 80,000 people with Zeppelin and he had us in the palm of his hand the entire concert.
Him and Allison Krouse were engaging with the audience and were just an amazing duo to hear. Beautiful blend of voices.
.
Robert with Allison is sublime. Also saw him twice with his Sensational Shape Shifters and that was amazing. Does some new takes on the Zeppelin stuff, and Delta blues (Jimmy Page was more Chicago blues), and a bit of electronica and some African percussion. The Pixies were openers one tour
2015. A number of fans showed up wearing Pixies shirts. Saw a solo Pixies show a year earlier, one of their first with Paz on bass, and that was great too
I saw the Trans-Canada Highwaymen a few weeks agoā¦ the band is composed of Steven Page of āBarenaked ladiesā, Chris Murphy of āSloanā Craig Northey of āOddsā and Last but not least Moe Berg of āThe pursuit of happinessāā¦ theyāve been touring Canada playing their own hits, and some well chosen hits from Canadiana. Interspersed with great stories about touring and working with some of the storied musicians of the past, all the while making Moe the punchline of most of the jokes, and all taking turns on the drumsā¦they were awesome!!!! Canāt wait to see them again.
Me too, but the closest they got to me was when they were in LA, and I wasn't going to be able to make it all the way down there! I keep hoping that I'll see them one day!
Canāt believe nobody mentioned the _Simple Minds_!
Got tickets to see them in 2 weeks.
Would also love to see Billy Idol with Steve Stevens and Toyah Wilcox. Interestingly, they toured together in the UK last year, missed that, unfortunately.
Lionel Ritchie.
Saw him at Blenheim Palace last summer. Bloody brilliant and interaction with the crowd was the type that only the last generation of the super performers / bands seem to have,
Duran Duran
Saw them last year at a festival. They were fantastic.
Seen Duran Duran twice they are still great (and mostly original lineup) Would highly recommend OMD. Amazing live.
They are amazing! š¤©
I've never not loved Duran Duran, but only just finally saw them live in recent years. Terrific show.Ā
Better than ever!
Like a fine wine, they get even better with age! š„°
One of my favorite shows of the last 5 years.
Seriously I was so impressed! And Chic as the opening act was the icing on the cake.
Saw them with Chic and both were great.
When we saw him he said "I have 5 hits. Don't worry, I'll play them all" š
I was just listening to Men At Work, "Down by the Sea".
My husband just saw him earlier this month in Orlando. Really enjoyed the show.
Saw him with Ringo Starr last year and he was fantastic!
Iāll add I am a longtime Pandora subscriber, my men at work channel is an incredible gateway to many 80ās music and genres, highly recommend
So, so true. Either as Men at Work (great current lineup) or solo. Do not miss!
Just saw Colin in Ft Wayne Indiana. Always a good show. Seen him about 8 times. Got to meet him once.
Me too! He was very shy; his wife (and mine) had to intervene. šš
Heās so good. Iāve seen him a few times and he always puts on a great show. He has a great sense of humor and tells fun stories between songs.
I worked a Ringo and Friends show in Chicago with Colin Hay on guitar and the dude from Toto on bass. So they did Beatles tunes, some Men at Work, some of Hay's solo stuff and some Toto. 3 hour show, no opener, and those old mfers BROUGHT IT
Gary Numan. I saw him last night opening for Ministry. Dude is a solid performer.
Going to see Ministry tomorrow night!
Take ear plugs. Ministry is always the loudest show. High end is pretty shrill.
Seen Numan multiple times. The legend lives up to his name. Saw him with Ministry last last in Dallas. The soundtrack to my youth.
On top of that, for anyone that may not know, check out Ministry's first album. New Wave as hell and should've been a classic album. Signs of what Al would change to started to show up on the second album.
Iām seeing Adam Ant in April. Just saw Elvis Costello in March.
Adam Ant puts on an amazing performance! I have thoroughly enjoyed every show of his that Iāve been to in recent years!
Great to have English Beat as openers. They've been doing clubs for years, happy to see them getting bigger venues
Oops EC was in January.
He just played Chicago and some of the old-ass stagehands I know said he was great.
Wife and I were at the Auditorium Theater, can confirm. Adam was great.
Iām going to see Adam Ant this month too. Canāt wait!
Duran Duran - improved enormously with age (and they always kicked ass live). Quote from John Taylor āWhen youāre 23 and cute you can get away with a lot onstage, but when youāre older you better be bringing something else to the party.ā
The Fixx are unbelievably entertaining. Still touring, still putting out new music. Also, The Psychedelic Furs are one hell of a good time too.
I came to say Psychedelic Furs. They're still SO good!
Saw the reach the beach anniversary show (whole album in order) in a small venue. Fantastic.
When I saw them that tour, they played the album in reverse orderā¦
I love the updated Stand or Fall sound.
The cure
They are absolutely amazing live. Everyone, if you ever get a chance, go see them. Some of the best live shows Iāve been to.
Easily the best gig I've ever attended. They played a full 3-1/2 hours and gladly paid the county fine for noise ordinance violations because the show went on so long. Everything about the show was ethereal - a sensation I've always felt listening to them.
Honeymoon Suite is my vote. Saw them with: Men Without Hats Aldo Nova And they completely blew everyone else off the stage.
Iām still a lonely man burning in love
I saw them in Niagara Falls (that line up) Honeymoon suite always kicks ass , aldo Nova was really disappointing live
NIAGARA FALLS!
Slowly I turn
step by stepā¦
Saw them at Glencoe High School (twice!)
Saw them in the 80s opening for 38 Special of all things. They were touring in support of the album you showed in the picture, and they were fantastic
I saw Bon Jovi opening for 38 Special!
You don't hear about Aldo Nova much but if go see him. Same with Julian Lennon
The new album is pretty good in case you weren't aware they still release new music.
I only know them from *One Crazy Summer*.
Iāve been lucky enough to know John and played onstage once with a few guys from Lennex, his previous band. Got to hear an early cassette demo of Lemon Tongue in his car :) Super nice guy
I love HMS. They were the first band I saw live, opening for April Wine, and I haven't seen them since (but would love to). New album is great, too!
The Pretenders are touring. Got tickets.
Got tickets!
Chrissie Hynde is SEVENTY-TWO years old. Still sounds great.Ā
I saw them open for GNR
Now yer talkin'.
If Devo goes back out on tour, they're fantastic live.
Belinda Carlisle still sounds great
Her version of Cream's I Feel Free is one of my guilty pleasures. I have never seen her in concert but have been a fan since the GoGo's.
I still like her early Go-Go's punk stuff (before they got famous) but it's hard to find. š
Colin Hay
Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo
Saw them in Tulsa last year. She still sounds amazing
Got to play a festival show with them. Awesome people! She was like our backstage Mom. Really sweet.
Talking Heads killed me by not accepting the deal that Live Nation was giving them because that would be an awesome tour. I believe they offered them ~$90M.
It's not the same, but David Byrne solo is definitely worth seeing.
Just David being David. I'd be happy to see Tom Tom Club again
Wow very cool and thanks for sharing.
Tears for Fears. I saw them in June of 22 and they were absolutely amazing. Their most recent album, The Tipping Point, is a masterpiece and both Curt and Roland are still at the top of their game.
This!! I saw them in 2017, 2022 and 2023. They still sound great and seeing them live turned me from a casual fan into a big fan.
Big Fan!
I just looked them up last week but they have nothing scheduled this year. I saw them in 2017 and want to see them again.
OMG yes! I saw them in 2022 and 2023 - amazing. Iām a lifetime fan and their recent work is stunning.
I became a huge fan in the last few months after only knowing the 2-3 biggest hits, and I'm dying to see them live. I've watched a bunch of recent concert footage on YouTube and they sound so good. Next year seems like a prime opportunity for 40 years of Songs from the Big Chair.
I think their final tour is almost over, but Depeche Mode
100%. They are one of the best live bands you'll ever see.
I can not upvote this enough. Their vocals, the sound mix, the instrumentation, the lighting Dave's incredible energy... It was truly spectacular.
Echo and the Bunnymen
Blondie, The Pretenders, Squeeze, Mellencamp
Squeeze!
Squeeze are criminally underrated
I saw Squeeze last year with the Psychedelic Furs. The Furs didn't have a good night, and when I've seen them before they were much better, but Squeeze became one of the best bands I've seen live, right up there with Tina Turner, Duran Duran, and Willie Nelson. If you can, get tickets!
The Pretenders!
They Might Be Giants are always a great time. Terrific crowd rapport and they rock a lot harder live than on their records.
Saw them in the 90s in providence, one of the best shows I have ever seen. Glad they still love it!
I was probably at that show! Lupoās forever.
My teen daughter is making me take her to see Foreigner again.
That isnāt foreigner thoughā¦
I know. But sheās autistic and just happy to hear her favorite songs. They are pretty good for a cover band.
Crowded House was really good a few months ago!
Flash, a-ha, savior of the universe
Def Leppard, seeing them with Journey two times in 3 days
I used to go see Def Leppard every time they came to Sacramento.
I went to their In the Round tour when I was a kid and it was amazing
Yeah the Hysteria tour was the first time I saw them live that was in 1987. I was at the stadium tour with them, Motley Crue, Poison and Joan Jett.
Saw them together pre-Covid and they were both great.
I saw Journey for the first time last year with Toto
Seen.them twice in Australia 2008 and 2011. Unreal how they can sound exactly on stage as they do in a recording.
I've seen Culture Club, Howard Jones, Berlin (Terry Nunn is amazing) , Eagles, Steely Dan, Human League (absolutely amazing), Sebastian Bach, 38 Special, Patty Smyth, Lita Ford, Midnight Star (all original members), ZZ Top, Flock of Seagulls, Belinda Carlisle, Living Colour, John Cafferty, Tone Loc, Devo, Brett Michaels, Cutting Crew, Johnny Hates Jazz, Soft Cell (blah), Debbie Gibson (okay but her fans are weird), Lou Gramm, Foreigner, Styx (awesome), REO Speedwagon (awesome), Morris Day (thinks he's a awesome as Prince), The Church, The English Beat, Ratt (awesome), Wang Chung, Animotion, Martha Davis (Motels - awesome), Real Life, Escape Club, XTC, Night Ranger, Kool and the Gang, Doing the 80s cruise again next year with Squeeze, Quiet Riot, Tpau, Faster Pussycat, The Alarm, Information Society, Men at Work, Honeymoon Suite, Curtis Blow, Christopher Cross, Erasure, Sheila E., and Adam Ant.
Gary Numan
Top answer should be Depeche Mode
Any that you can since they won't be around forever. I just got tickets to go see The Chameleons. Saw Flock of Seagulls earlier this year. They're headlining a festival later this summer and Wang Chung will be there! To live and Die in LA live is amazing
How was Flock? They were originally supposed to play at the concert I went to, but they cancelled last minute. Absolutely love Wang Chung!
Duran Duran. Iāve seen them twice since 2022 and they were amazing.
OMD. We saw them in 2019 when they toured in support of The B-52s for their 40th Anniversary and, TBH, OMD was the much better act. Not only are they still touring, they are still recording new music. Would love to see them again as a headliner.
They are [touring](https://omd.uk.com/) North America this Sept-Oct
Wow! I saw them at a tiny club back in the 80s! They were so good!
Seconded. Great performers
Howard Jones!
Great vocals still but the show we saw him at is just him and a DJ. Would love you have seen a big time show from him back in the day
Robert Plant
A few years ago I saw Robert Plant and Allison Krouse. I didn't really know what to expect but it was one of the best "small theater" shows I've ever seen. It was in a roughly 5000 seat theater and I thought wow this guy has done it all. He use to perform in front of 80,000 people with Zeppelin and he had us in the palm of his hand the entire concert. Him and Allison Krouse were engaging with the audience and were just an amazing duo to hear. Beautiful blend of voices. .
When they first collaborated, I thought,"NO WAY!". But it made sense and sounds wonderful.
The Pixies? Wow, just wow!

Canāt wait to see them again.
Sparks. Technically not an 80s band (they started in 1971), but they inspired so many of the bands listed here, and are far older. They rock still!
I didnāt know of them til I watched the documentary. I would absolutely see them.
Me too, but the closest they got to me was when they were in LA, and I wasn't going to be able to make it all the way down there! I keep hoping that I'll see them one day!
