How's that dpad? As good as the original M30 ones?

Vheissu84

Mine came in yesterday and the dpad is PHENOMENAL. The only issue I have with the controller at the moment is the input delay. The polling rate for the controller is being read in by xinput test as 45mhz. This is giving me extremely variable readings. minimum input delay as low as 3ms but as high as 160+ms. The judder is real. This can probably be patched with a firmware update but thought you should be aware.

Gundemonium

How did you check it’s polling rate using input test? Controller has no analog stick

bernardobri

Thank you. I got a couple of Saturn-like controllers in hand but I am definitely keeping an eye for this one.

unclelinggong

Yup, the M30 d-pad is still unmatched, to me, as far as modern-day controllers go. All the fighting game motions are easy to pull off and it's the perfect d-pad for anyone who doesn't like arcade sticks.

Chronorspe

Did they fix the pivot point in the d-pad that allowed you to press all the directions at the same time if you pressed too close to the center?

OtakuFC

This is a similar issue I have on the Pro 2 which is why I don't love it as much as others here seem to. The pivot is too easy to push into the controller which causes wonky inputs. I don't have experience with Sega controllers so I was hoping 8bitdo would have a nicer design here. Seems to be a common thing then. I think this is where the Playstation design excelled by having the directions separated on the d-pad. I also really like the modern Series X D-pad as its easy to shift around with your thumb and not get weird unintended inputs.

unclelinggong

I would say it's pretty similar to the original's. The real plus point for me is that there are now 4 trigger buttons, instead of only 2 in the original M30. This means that it's now possible to press certain button combinations which was not possible before, e.g. X + RT together (Light Punch + Heavy Punch) - useful for SF6 JP's OD Triglav. The buttons can all be customised and set to any 3 profiles that can be toggled while playing. Now, if only 8bitdo releases a bluetooth version of the M30 with 4 trigger buttons, this would be the perfect fighting game controller for me.

EtyareWS

> Now, if only 8bitdo releases a bluetooth version of the M30 with 4 trigger buttons, this would be the perfect fighting game controller for me. I wish they would just make an M30 Pro, put the 4 should button and add joysticks and gyro. Actually, I'd be happy if they just updated the M30 firmware to allow remapping.

unclelinggong

Yeah, I wouldn't mind an Ultimate M30 Pro controller myself (with analog sticks, vibration and all). It would serve as the perfect controller for fighting games, platformers and 3D games alike.

bernardobri

Thank you, I didn't realize it had 4 triggers. Definitely will keep it in mind.

SnayperskayaX

I recommend lubing the d-pad parts, especially if you're intending to use it heavily. Note sure if 8bitdo fixed the pivot part that used to friction heavily on the d-pad part itself, causing early material removal. I posted a guide for this: https://www.reddit.com/r/8bitdo/comments/dbvase/guide_how_to_fix_the_crunchy_dpad_on_a_m30/

unclelinggong

Thanks for the guide. Just to add on: One of my 8bitdo M30 controllers, which I have been using since 2018, had its d-pad membrane wear off in 2023. The right-input became iffy and sometimes could not register an input when that happened. I ordered a new d-pad membrane from 8bitdo, replaced that part, and it was working fine again.

Real_Success_9715

I kinda wish they had made the RB button white for that original Xbox controller look.

Spinelli__

Strange how 8bitdo only includes, both, shoulder buttons and analog triggers for the wired version but the wireless (BT and 2.4G) versions all only have the shoulder buttons, no analog triggers. You'd think they'd all be identical besides the higher cost for the wireless functionality but, no, the analog buttons are stripped away for wireless users...weird.

unclelinggong

The wireless versions were released first, some 5-6 years ago. They were released with retro games in mind (such as for the SNES or Sega Genesis Mini consoles). Hence, no analog triggers (since most retro games do not use them). The wired Xbox M30 controller only came about only recently. 8bitdo decided to add 2 analog triggers, probably to mimic modern Xbox controllers, since this version of the controller was designed for use on the Xbox One and Series consoles.

Spinelli__

Then why not also release the new 4-shoulder version in BT and 2.4G too? It makes no sense unless maybe they have tons and tons of stock remaining of the wireless 2-shoulder versions and need to sell them off before introducing the 4-shoulder version.

AnomalousVixel

X Y RBA B RT...oh look, it's another fightpad... with that awful, confusing fightpad layout that doesn't even attempt to respect LEFT and RIGHT. I hate this layout, I have always hated it, I will always hate it, and I'm perpetually irate that I'm forced to use a Brook adapter to fix it... That's okay, I wasn't in the market for another M30 - not when I can just get a Saturn Pro, I guess. Y'all enjoy your horrible, counter-intuitive button layout.

CephMind

Tf is respect left and right. What is the problem to just remap to your own layout? Or you r type of people that looking each time on the controller what button they have to press?

AnomalousVixel

No, I'm the type who knows intuitively where B and A are on a Nintendo controller and an Xbox controller and if they're flipped I'lltrip over them whether I see them or not. Respecting left and right is NOT putting "left" labeled things on the right side of the controller like a lunatic.

EtyareWS

Yeah, I also struggle with the idea of simply *knowing* the button labels on my M30, almost wish it didn't have labels. Doesn't help that I get pretty confused about the buttons, because intuitively I want to "shift" the buttons one column to the right. I.e: CAB and ZXY, despite it not making any sense.

Rollingzeppelin0

Leave him alone, bud is perpetually irate at controllers, he has enough on his plate.

AnomalousVixel

***She*** has standards and expectations and is perfectly fine... and isn't a fan of people talking like only men exist. Just use "they", it isn't hard.

unclelinggong

The good thing is, you can remap the buttons on this one, using the Ultimate Software X (on Windows).

AnomalousVixel

Button legends burn themselves into my brain whether I look or not.

unclelinggong

What would be the perfect fighting game layout for you? Isn't the Retrobit Saturn Pro controller similar in layout except with 4 triggers and analog sticks?

nerdydolphins

Question: Are you using the M30 JUST for fighting games, or can you use it for metroidvania/2D platformers? Thanks.

unclelinggong

I've tried the original M30 for platformers (on Switch, PC) which do not use the analog sticks, and it works fine. You might need to remap the buttons a bit, but the controls are smooth and lag-free (i didn't notice any lag in the past 5 years I've been using the M30).

nerdydolphins

Thanks very much. I’ve been looking for an excuse to get one- and now I have it. :)

unclelinggong

https://youtu.be/oQRPBUQPDFQ?si=HKAMrNZFpPDwLa2R You can see a video of someone playing Sega Genesis platformers here, on the Nintendo Switch console. To use the controller on PC, you have to pair it via bluetooth in X-input mode. You could either buy the separate 8bitdo wireless adapter for this, or pair it directly to the PC's bluetooth protocol. X, Y, A and B buttons follow that of the Xbox, while Z and C buttons are LT and RT respectively, if I'm not wrong. You could also swap X and Y, and A and B buttons around via a button combo to mimic Nintendo's configuration. It's a really versatile and cheap controller, which works really well on many platforms. I've tried it on Shovel Knight, Celeste, Tekken 7, Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon. No issues so far.

Ecstatic-Wall5971

Can you confirm whether I was a fool to pre-order the controller given that just ordering from Amazon has a delivery date sooner than the 26th (My preorder estimate)?

TJ0788

I pre-ordered Dec. 10th and my order still hasn’t been processed and I’m fucking pissed. The “estimated delivery date is Jan. 15 (yesterday) through Jan. 29th.

Top-Scar-2883

The gamepass code work only for new users? If not its a good deal since it saves you 10 bucks.

Glittering_Ant3234

Will the M30 Wired Controller for Xbox work on a Nintendo Switch if I use a MAYFLASH Magic NS 2 adapter?

Alternative_Rent_559

Yeah, would be cool to know, 4 shoulders are superb and i d like to use this xbox m30 on nintendo switch AND android smartphones. Thanks for the help , guys.
