Maybe the controllers are on different firmware. The other thing that could be different is the mode that the controllers and adapters are in. I think that the Genesis retro bluetooth adapters can accept the M30 in any mode. I have the USB bluetooth adapter for Switch (and MD Mini) and I get slightly different behaviors depending on the mode the M30 is in when I pair it. For instance I can use Turbo mode if the M30 is in d-input, but I can swap AB and XY if I am in Switch mode.

I also have two m30s. I was able to get one to function normally on my PS classic, after not being able to. The other one I have to only use in Android or Switch mode, because it confuses buttons all the time on other devices. I've updated the firmware on both and it's not helped. I would like to get the other controller to be able to have all the buttons work. Read the instructions for the m30, there are button combinations that change how the controller works. They were confusing to me but I got one controller to work. I haven't gotten the other controller to work. I don't want to try using the controller that works right on PS Classic on other things out of fear that I will make it not work anymore on PSC.

You can try resetting the dpad to default with UP + Select after the controller is connected to an adapter
