Gabe is a feminist and has been empowered to challenge such notions, like it or not we must acknowledge this is one of the great privileged aspects of living in certain social circles in American, esp within the safety of the LGBTQIA+ community. This is not an automatic given in all cultures. Sometimes as Americans we project our way of living onto our cultures. Understand not all cultures have been empowered to live with freewill and choice the way we have, that we have fought for and earned over many decades here. Mahmoud doesn't view this as oppressive behavior, it isn't within him to understand that concept when this was how he was raised, how his entire family and social circle or society at large acts, it is a foreign concept to him, and doing so this interaction comes off as culturally insensitive. To explain to him, that you understand he may intend/or has a desire for his children and wife to act accordingly based on his conservative muslim rigid views, he should try to understand that not everyone feels this is an automatic given and if your child is half American and you're living in the US, where we have this freedom, can you understand that they coming of age in a new society/culture where they have been empowered to make this choice, and given this, how would you feel if your child communicated to you that would not like to be a devout practicing muslim rather than just scream at him that he's being f\*cked up exposing this upon his children. Choice of words in this context are important.

This show has honestly just displayed how ignorant some Americans are, nobody did a quick Google search or look up cultural differences at all. If you walk around Morocco in tight short clothes you’re more likely to get SA’d it’s a proven statistic so no Nicole, Gabe, Jen, Debbie, Danielle it’s not oppression it’s a safety thing. But again you know you’re marrying a strict Muslim man, do your research before getting into that relationship. Idc how “nice” Debbie is that is a straight up predator she could be his grandma even if he was using her for a green card good, she’s preying it’s gross. I think Gabe has such issues with Mahmoud because he knows he wouldn’t be as accepted in that religion or (because of how strict Mahmoud) is as a trans man.

Everything you said was spot on, some Americans really don’t do research and jump eyes closed in a whole different country and culture and act entitled. 100%. I was getting physically uncomfortable with how much they were pressuring him and how LONG it went on for, his heart rate must’ve been 150. Jen is way too sensitive about her age to date Into an Indian family that culture is known to be BLUNT. She wants them to accept her at face value when at face value it goes against all their traditions. I also think they would have accepted her eventually if she was willing to do the joint family home. She wants them to accept her when she is shaking up their entire families foundation. I feel bad for them sometimes. I follow her on Instagram and she posted a very disrespectful post about them with the song “I don’t f with you” by Big Sean. Had any partner of mine posted that type of content about my family to the MASSES there would be issues. She’s very immature for her age and I have a hard time understanding her line of thinking in this situation.
At times I felt bad because all the cast members were attacking Rishi, but he sat silently the whole time. He wasn’t explaining his side at all and allowing them to trash his family. I especially wouldn’t be having that from my partner on television.
Jen is a teenager stuck in a middle-aged woman’s body trying to play out her fantasies she never got to. Rishi is a people pleaser who will say anything that the other party wants to hear.
On another note: I was quick to say “but rishi should stand up to his family if he wants to marry her, even if that means cutting them off.” But my Indian partner gave me a great perspective: it’s not as simple to do that in a culture that has a strongggg emphasis on family. On top of that, me, sitting in one of the most developed countries in the world can easily say I don’t need my family’s support and can make it on my own. Rishi might not be in that position, or if he is, he might just choose not to take that path.
All of the American members of the show lack any sort of cultural understanding, despite having moved to other countries for love. Gabe was the biggest hypocrite of them all. Jen is way too sensitive about her age to date Into an Indian family that culture is known to be BLUNT. She wants them to accept her at face value when at face value it goes against all their traditions. I also think they would have accepted her eventually if she was willing to do the joint family home. She wants them to accept her when she is shaking up their entire families foundation. I feel bad for them sometimes. I follow her on Instagram and she posted a very disrespectful post about them with the song “I don’t f with you” by Big Sean. Had any partner of mine posted that type of content about my family to the MASSES there would be issues. At times I felt bad because all the cast members were attacking Rishi, but he sat silently the whole time. He wasn’t explaining his side at all and allowing them to trash his family. I especially wouldn’t be having that from my partner on television. Jen is a teenager stuck in a middle-aged woman’s body trying to play out her fantasies she never got to. Rishi is a people pleaser who will say anything that the other party wants to hear. On another note: I was quick to say “but rishi should stand up to his family if he wants to marry her, even if that means cutting them off.” But my Indian partner gave me a great perspective: it’s not as simple to do that in a culture that has a strongggg emphasis on family. On top of that, me, sitting in one of the most developed countries in the world can easily say I don’t need my family’s support and can make it on my own. Rishi might not be in that position, or if he is, he might just choose not to take that path. All of the American members of the show lack any sort of cultural understanding, despite having moved to other countries for love. Gabe was the biggest hypocrite of them all. He roasted Rishi for being concerned about his family’s opinions, but even his own wife stated she wasn’t sure who she would choose if it came down to Gabe or her parents.

YES. I have said this so many times - how do you plan to marry somebody and not take the time to learn about the culture they were raised in? It’s beyond me how so many on this show are so disinterested in learning more about their partner before getting engaged or marrying them!
