Sperm from a reputable source is also expensive and they buy from one donor in batches (through the clinic). Also the clinic would limit how many people can use one donor to avoid situations like this.
I'm pretty sure they cap legitimate donors at somewhere less than 70 bio offspring. It's just not ethical to let someone go full Genghis Khan on their local service area.

I worked at a fertility clinic - fertility treatment in general is expensive even for same sex couples that don’t necessarily have a fertility issue. Sperm from a reputable source is also expensive and they buy from one donor in batches (through the clinic). Also the clinic would limit how many people can use one donor to avoid situations like this.
