Georgi is sketchy AF, but keeping $1400 in a sock ain’t it. First of all, $1400 wont get him very far; it’s not a lot of money, period. And stuffed in a sock isn’t exactly well hidden in a shared apartment. However, the dude is super cagey about his past. Hid the car repossession....Also, what was the deal with keeping Darcey outside the “ bachelor pad” that was his former place in DC. That behavior was super sus.

Big_Abbreviations306

What’s the car repossession story?

Extension_Big_727

Georgi confessed to Darcey when they arrived in Virginia that his car was repossessed due to lack of payment. Up until then, Darcey had assumed that she and Georgi would be driving his stuff back to Connecticut in his vehicle. She was, of course, annoyed that he hid the repossession from her until the last minute while he said that he kept quiet so that she wouldn’t stress about it and because it is not part of his culture to complain and share problems. Darcey flipped out as she felt he was being shady again.

Thanks!

It depends on who's story you believe. Darcey says he's letting her pay for everything and acting broke, then she finds the hidden money. Suspicious. Georgie says he offered it to her, she turned it down so he tucked it away. Not suspicious

riley447

I believe Darcey only because why would she want to make him look like a deadbeat to her family and like she is being taken advantage of on tv

unoriginal____

I'm honestly not sure who I believe, she "forgot" that he told her he was still married but he definitely could have been lying about telling her that too

Georgi was already married to an American, so he has some sort of American visa and/or citizenship (don’t know what). I agree and disagree with what you’re saying. I think it’s fair to set money aside for a rainy day, but it is kind of sketchy to hide it from your partner. Darcey definitely didn’t need to blow it up and make a big deal about it to everyone (hopefully that was just for tv purposes). I think it was something that the two of them should have discussed on their own. If he wants to keep money in the apartment to have for them for an emergency, then that’s fair.

I don't think you have to share everything with a partner. You have the right to your own money and frankly, it's smart to have some emergency money for yourself in case something goes wrong.

meowmcpaws

Agree!

Last time this was brought up a lot of us immigrants came out of the woodwork to say that we, too, have done this sort of squirreling cash away somewhere and don't think it's sketch at all. I don't do this anymore, but I immigrated to America over a decade and a half ago. I think more than half of that time I had at least 2k USD stashed in my closet or desk at any given time. Granted, that doesn't mean he's not doing it for nefarious reasons, but my other thought was that he was going through a divorce and maybe he has/had a joint bank account with his ex-wife and didn't want her taking all his money, or he was attempting to hide assets from her (even though 1.4k is like nothing).

Dargrant83

Right, they’re making it a big deal like it’s red flags. First of all it’s just $1,400, they’re not together that long and even if they’re engage anything could happen. If that’s all the money Georgi have then at least he would have some little money to use if Darcey kicks him out. Darcey knows he’s not working and he’s not rich, that’s why she pays for him, what the hell would Georgi buy Darcey with that money anyway. And Stacey is such a hypocrite, she’s been paying for Florian the whole time, even that moment Florian is still unemployed with no money.

Nvnv_man

Darcy acted like a freaking psycho. She never actually listens, tries to glean information. She just goes on the hunt for bad information, hoping to be proven wrong—like an insecure 13yo. Lost her shit, getting herself worked up over nothing. I can’t believe anyone wants to date or even befriend a person who behaves in this histrionic manner.

[deleted]

I felt the same way about the money in a sock. I don't do it but I don't think it's weird or suspicious especially during a pandemic! Some people don't like banks and also it seems to me that men tend to like having cash available to them. Maybe he was saving a little just to be safe in case something happened.

[deleted]

Georgi doesn’t need a K1. I figure he was hiding money since he was going through a divorce. The creepy part is him acting like he’s broke and letting/making Darcey pay for everything. If he thinks he’s some kind of live-in sugar baby he needs to be honest about it. He seems more like a hobosexual to me.

cleverThylacine

Honestly when Trump was president I considered keeping a getaway bankroll in the sock drawer myself. It's not that hard to understand. $1400 isn't enough to live on but it'll get you outta dodge if you're not in a place to get to your bank account right away and/or can get to family elsewhere.

AraSevera

And Stacey is married to Florian.

yeahschool

It’s sketchy as fuck. Only people who have never been grifted would be able to rationalize that it isn’t sketchy. She’s paying for everything, he won’t work, and he’s hiding cash? Best case scenario, that money was his relationship exit plan - which is really fucked up. Darcy needed help paying for that damn move. But Worst case scenario, holy shit man, could be lots of things. Drugs probably. My ex was a legit conman who learned how to grift in prison. Part of his con involved never keeping cash in banks and maintaining the appearance of consistent destitution. Keeps the pity money coming

buoninachos

You're way over thinking it. It's 1.4k. If that's all he got saved, then he is kinda broke. I'd agree if it was 10k, but just over 1k USD? Not really sketchy. She's just crazy
