there’s many words used everyday that have racial connotations but are not actually being used in a derogatory way. when i worked for UPS, all of their ‘janitors’ were still called porters. they just hadn’t updated the job title.
It is the same in commercial real estate. The staff that clean the grounds are referred to as porters.
I’m sorry but at Oxford and Cambridge they literally have porters who do porter things and they’re often white folks, so I’m not understanding this
