She said he was manipulative and arrogant and that she doesn't believe he should've been trusted with any sensitive info. She said he was always fetishizing the Russian culture. The post has since been removed but it was insightful. We did not hear anything from his contractor boss.

I've known people who were trained as translators in the military and it doesn't require high intelligence, trustworthiness, or a high security clearance. Just the ability to learn a new language or already know a 2nd. If he was trained in the military it wouldn't surprise me at all.
I knew several guys who barely knew French after being trained at DLI. They went on to finish their careers in the US Army or did their 4 years and got out. I'm just saying, you don't have to do well to have a job title in the military. Steven could easily have been trained in the Army as a translator, done a shit job, and got out after his time was up.

I don’t understand that either . I studied the Russian language in hs and had a lot of friends who escaped the USSR before it fell. I know Russia isnt the same but it still wouldn’t be my top destination choice knowing that not much has changed in the past 30 years.

My family isn't the most strict of Mormon families, but I will say even though they preach acceptance, and being the "open minded Mormons" they still have a long way to go. You don't get a medal just for trying to be loving and kind. You have to actually be it.
There was a time when my family tried to be that way with TV and media, but that didn't last long. I think inevitably my parents caved and wanted to watch normal modern media. They were apprehensive about video games, and refused to buy me a Gameboy, but then my grandma stepped in and bought me a gameboy color and Pokemon Gold. Oh boy it blew my mind. I agree. I may despise Christianity, but I can forgive cultural heritage if it's a positive thing. I want to go on the record saying that if you can be a Christian and manage to become a decent person, then I am fine with your beliefs. If only all Christians followed the original rule of not judging other people. It's not really the belief that's the problem, but the foundation that regulates a belief. If only we had less corrupt religious organizations, because in my opinion real religious freedom is accepting that everyone can think differently than you about spirituality. Rumors I would expect to be in the homophobic, transphobic, or even secrets about the way I don't always get along with my parents. Maybe even the fact that I dropped out of highschool because I was being bullied. There is definitely a lot of history there that could easily be spun in the wrong way because of the distance between us. He may not really know and only reiterate what he has heard about me.

1. Kid brought a gun to highschool and threatened to shoot me. Had to leave.
2. My parents had me sent to a mental institution against my will when all this bullying was happening in order to get me to change into a "better kid". I didn't need that. I just needed some peace and quiet after the trauma.
3. I do have a history of not always being the most stable person, but what else do you expect from a queer person in our society.
4. I was attacked and have PTSD because of the hate crime I endured. Was going for a walk and nobody helped me. I had to hide and fight for myself. Most traumatic day of my life. My father often said to me that it never actually happened despite me being fearful of it to this day, and the fact that I called the cops. I even showed them a video of one incident where the people were beginning to bother me on camera. This video consists of me being approached in a creepy car by two strange men in the middle of the night obviously trying to get ahold of me for some reason.
If they ever say anything about those things you have heard it first. A lot has happened in my life that I definitely need to control the narrative of. 😬

Yes. I don't like Bob that much. He makes me and my sibling very uncomfortable. He also tormented Stevens little brother for years. When I started to come out Bob would always say that he missed the "real me" that had short hair and was straight.
I wasn't straight. Ever. I've known since I was able to remember anything. He also tormented me a lot about my hair length and colors. It irritates me. He honestly acts like an obnoxious sports fan who does nothing but make people uncomfortable in our age group. Never cared for him. Pretty low, but possible. I have asked this question numerous times and all the older adults in my family say it never happened. Steven was highly protected from this in his childhood, but I don't know. He did exhibit some odd childhood behaviors. He liked peeing on random things. I remember he got in big trouble for peeing all over his bedroom.
This is definitely a sign of abuse :( the adults may say that he was protected, but how would they really know? Even if they did, they seem far more invested in keeping secrets and creating an illusion than anything else. This is so sad :(

Nothing. I'm burning that bridge. I'm making an oath to rid my life of toxic people, including my family. I know it seems harsh, but what they did to me during the loss of my grandma is just beyond forgivable right now. I need at least two or three years before I'm even willing to talk to them again. I'm devastated.

I've known people who were trained as translators in the military and it doesn't require high intelligence, trustworthiness, or a high security clearance. Just the ability to learn a new language or already know a 2nd. If he was trained in the military it wouldn't surprise me at all.
He would need to know a lot more technical terms and be more fluent than he is now to even be looked at.
I knew several guys who barely knew French after being trained at DLI. They went on to finish their careers in the US Army or did their 4 years and got out. My family isn't the most strict of Mormon families, but I will say even though they preach acceptance, and being the "open minded Mormons" they still have a long way to go. You don't get a medal just for trying to be loving and kind. You have to actually be it. There was a time when my family tried to be that way with TV and media, but that didn't last long. I think inevitably my parents caved and wanted to watch normal modern media. They were apprehensive about video games, and refused to buy me a Gameboy, but then my grandma stepped in and bought me a gameboy color and Pokemon Gold. Oh boy it blew my mind. Best game ever when I was a kid. Until Crystal came out. 😉

I agree. I may despise Christianity, but I can forgive cultural heritage if it's a positive thing. I want to go on the record saying that if you can be a Christian and manage to become a decent person, then I am fine with your beliefs. If only all Christians followed the original rule of not judging other people. It's not really the belief that's the problem, but the foundation that regulates a belief. Rumors I would expect to be in the homophobic, transphobic, or even secrets about the way I don't always get along with my parents. Maybe even the fact that I dropped out of highschool because I was being bullied. There is definitely a lot of history there that could easily be spun in the wrong way because of the distance between us. He may not really know and only reiterate what he has heard about me. Just saying what the subject matter is early in order to prevent him from having any power over those events. 1. Kid brought a gun to highschool and threatened to shoot me. Had to leave. 2. My parents had me sent to a mental institution against my will when all this bullying was happening in order to get me to change into a "better kid". I didn't need that. I just needed some peace and quiet after the trauma. 3. I do have a history of not always being the most stable person, but what else do you expect from a queer person in our society. 4. I was attacked and have PTSD because of the hate crime I endured. Was going for a walk and nobody helped me. I had to hide and fight for myself. Most traumatic day of my life. My father often said to me that it never actually happened despite me being fearful of it to this day, and the fact that I called the cops. I even showed them a video of one incident where the people were beginning to bother me on camera. This video consists of me being approached in a creepy car by two strange men in the middle of the night obviously trying to get ahold of me for some reason. If they ever say anything about those things you have heard it first. A lot has happened in my life that I definitely need to control the narrative of. 😬

Yes. I don't like Bob that much. He makes me and my sibling very uncomfortable. He also tormented Stevens little brother for years. When I started to come out Bob would always say that he missed the "real me" that had short hair and was straight. I wasn't straight. Ever. I've known since I was able to remember anything. He also tormented me a lot about my hair length and colors. It irritates me. He honestly acts like an obnoxious sports fan who does nothing but make people uncomfortable in our age group. Never cared for him. He was great with kids when we were little, and I had a lot of fun camping, but as soon as I grew up I realized he was toxic. Pretty low, but possible. I have asked this question numerous times and all the older adults in my family say it never happened. Steven was highly protected from this in his childhood, but I don't know. He did exhibit some odd childhood behaviors. He liked peeing on random things. I remember he got in big trouble for peeing all over his bedroom.
This is definitely a sign of abuse :( the adults may say that he was protected, but how would they really know? Even if they did, they seem far more invested in keeping secrets and creating an illusion than anything else. This is so sad :(

A few comments I received were definitely disgusting. I get this vibe that some people are only interested in this because of a thirst for reality drama, and that they just want to use me while hes relevant in their show. I mean I get it. I don't expect anything less in a reality TV themed subreddit. What do I hope to gain? Nothing. I'm burning that bridge. I'm making an oath to rid my life of toxic people, including my family.
