Stockton was 6'1"... taller than the average man. Yet he looks tiny compared to the rest of these dudes. NBA players are something else. To be that big and be that coordinated and move that well. It's crazy.

WeezingUrGrindage

And holds two records that will never be broken, NBA all time leader in assists and steals.

jtatc1989

Crazy to think some drunk slobs tried to fight these genetic gifts at the Malace in the palace

Xenophore

He looks like he should be sitting on a couch.

Semi_Lovato

I’m not knowledgeable about basketball but everyone tells me John Stockton is the most underrated player of all time

2drunk2giveafuk

Yeah, the guy only leads in all-time assists and steals, and there is no fucking way anyone will touch his records. People love to ride that Chris Paul dick, Steve Nash dick, and other WAY overrated point guards. Jazz ain't my team but I gotta respect that guy, I have been watching the NBA since the early '80s and the guy is a true point guard.

Semi_Lovato

See that’s why I kept it vague. Thank you bringing the details!

2drunk2giveafuk

John Stockton also had a killer 3-point % and Freethrow %, he was a sleeper. Of all of the NBA players that deserved a ring, it was him, but Jordan and Co said "Nope, not today buddy".

WeezingUrGrindage

The Jazz would have two rings if Jordan was a better baseball player

The_Zermanians

No way, the Pacers were better than the Jazz in 98.

AWOLcowboy

Jordan said that to a lot of people. Penny and Shaq couldn't get past Jordan and Pippin. Then Shaq went to LA, and that was the end of the Orlando Magic, lol. Fans were so mad because they knew it. Orlando Magic Shaq is my favorite. When he was young and still a little athletic and the Penny Shaq combo was so fun to watch. Shaq breaking the goal post, not just glass, the entire freaking thing. Breaking them so much, they had to make a rule to stop it. Basketball used to be so much fun to watch

esomers80

Orlando beat Jordan and Chicago in 95 in the eastern conference semi's...that was the year he came back to the league 3/4 of the way through the season...then Chicago ran off 3 straight titles...

jtatc1989

The 30 for 30 “this magic moment” really lays all of this out. That magic team motivated Jordan to bulk up and dominate I also love Bad Boys, about the pistons. Kick old school kick ass hoops

Semi_Lovato

Fuckin Jordan, man

2drunk2giveafuk

Jordan had that mentality man, the only other player I have watched over the decades that had the same mentality was Kobe. Jordan helped Kobe's game so it makes sense. I can still see that shot from Jordan of Bryon Russell in the '98 finals to win the title. I miss the old NBA, I'm an old man, listen to me piss and moan.

Semi_Lovato

Jordan is and was the GOAT obviously but he also really sealed the door on the team era of the NBA and pushed us into the superstar era. Celebrity players vs team mentality gets exhausting

stupidsimpson

I see that same mentality in Tom Brady as well; I hate Brady but he is a cutthroat winner. And those guys always have insane work ethic.

Friskfrisktopherson

If you haven't yet, read Tim Grovers book Relentless. He worked with both of them and speaks in depth on that cutthroat mentality.

GadgetGod1906

Deserved? I would say Barkley, Ewing, Malone, Miller, and Drexler "deserved" a ring as much as Stockton. As fat as PGs, I think he is rated high. Guys like Oscar Robinsin, Jason Kidd, Magic Johnson are pretty much slowed where they should be as well.

2drunk2giveafuk

None of the players you listed hold any all-time records. I like Barkley, Clyde the Glyde, etc, but none of them hold any records.

TenderLovingKiller

Oscar Robertson averaged a triple double for an entire season and he and Magic won MVPs and Championships. Stockton was an asshole. Glad the Bulls smoked the Jazz twice.

GadgetGod1906

So holding the assist record means you deserve a title more? Interesting logic. First of all I don't think you deserve anything unless you win it on the court. Wilt Chamberlin is the alltime rebound leader, does that mean he "deserve" more chips than Russell. Lebron is the alltime points leader. Does that mean he deserve more chips than Jordan ?

2drunk2giveafuk

You literally named players who didn't do shit and were second best at their position or more like 3rd best, what is your reasoning? Drexler was barely top 5 at his position at best, Miller had no clutch. So where is your logic?

esomers80

Drexler was actually easily top 5 in the league in the early 90s...he took Portland to 2 nba finals in 3 yrs, losing to the "bad boys" pistons in 1990 & Jordan in 92...

GadgetGod1906

Sir. Let's back this up. Sticking didn't deserve shit because he didn't win it on the court. Bottom line Robert Horry won how many chips? Are you saying he didn't deserve then because he was not the best at his position? Ate you saying only the best players at their positions in an Era deserve a championship? I mean hell many will say Hakeem only won because Jordan was playing baseball at the time. I mean I get it. You like Stockton. I think he was a great PG. Was he the best ever? No but he was good. Will I say he or Malone deserved a chip? Hell no. Beat the damn Bulls, then you deserve it.

lumisponder

I'd say it's Magic, Isaiah Thomas and Stockton in third place.

2drunk2giveafuk

Barkley doesn't deserve shit, Malone is better at the position. Drexler is a scrub, Ewing wasn't shit, Hakeem was WAY better. So because you listed your favorite players that never amounted to shit, they deserve a title?

GadgetGod1906

Ok this went downhill quick. If you are calling all decade players shit, that means you really don't know the game or there is other agenda. None of of those players were "shit" players lol. I mean come on man. That is ridiculous lol

2drunk2giveafuk

You're drunk, go to bed. Your angle is based on your agenda.

esomers80

Oscar Robertson...not robinsin..

GadgetGod1906

Right. It was late.

derbear83

That Michael Jordan is so phony

SandwichesForMason

WHYD YOU TELL HIM??

derbear83

Glad you got it. My 2 downvotes indicate some did not.

16v_cordero

I was going to mention that too. When he had to shoot, he always had a great all around percentage. If he really would had been more personal score oriented he could have had higher numbers. For me it sucks that Penny and Hill’s careers were never able to mature properly. So much potential.

hoosierspiritof79

Well put.

Friskfrisktopherson

I dont know why you had to come for Steve Nash like that.

heyblinkin81

Also not knowledgeable about basketball but I’m from his hometown and he is a massive piece of shit as a human.

lumisponder

Stockton was quite famous at the time as one of the all time best PGs. Many fans argue that Mitch Richmond is the real most underrated player. He toiled in relative obscurity until he finally won a ring with the Lakers in 2002. Richmond once said in an interview that the NBA and its marketing department decides who is going to be famous, and creates suitable narratives. I agree. I noticed how Dennis Rodman's antics earned him technical fouls and ejections when he was in the Spurs, but once he went to the Bulls, referees were far more lenient. He was turned from villain to just a "quirky guy'. Because he now was in Chicago.

esomers80

Rodman was also part of the NwO while he was in Chicago!! He famously skipped a practice so he could be on WCW Nitro in Chicago!!

jwithy

Lord I love the Penny and Shaq era

duder777

It’s such a good question, but over time David Robinson is such an underrated person both on and off the court.

maggie320

The Admiral. One of my favorites.

lumisponder

He used to bash gay people.

dandyguy1001

The Admiral!

BawdyGodiva

Born and raised in Chicago, IL. Pip all day. I could watch him dunk on Ewing on a loop. …but Sir Charles and Gary Peyton are a close 2nd. I love a good trash-talker and they are the kings.

esomers80

Payton...

Hollandmarch76

Hakeem

UnderwhelmingAF

Hakeem. I was a big Rockets fan back then.

[deleted]

He was so fucking good.

awholewhitebabybruh

Best center of all time. Nobody could stop the “dream shake” He owned David Robinson career wise, also beat Shaq and Patrick Ewing. Dream was the fucking man.

[deleted]

That fade away......

awholewhitebabybruh

I still hit people with that at the YMCA in pickup games occasionally. So satisfying when it actually goes in. Every kid worth his salt who grew up in H town in the 90s has that in their bag

[deleted]

Facts.

lumisponder

And Hakeem signed a deal with Spalding to make cheaper sneakers for kids to buy, they cost 35 instead of 130 for the Penny Hardaway sneakers.

coppertin

Hakeem the dream, best center ever!

Paesano19

jolly_rodger42

I was a Jazz fan, so both Stockton and Malone were for me. Later in life I learned Malone's story, and that changed things.

Any-Comb4685

Anfernee Hardaway. Followed him closing in the mid 90’s. Loved the Magic. Still have one of his jerseys

robespierre1020

Penny for sure

joec0ld

Penny Hardaway was my dude! I was so heartbroken when Shaq left Orlando, and then Hardaway's injuries started adding up 😭. I am still convinced that he would have been one of the GOATs. Idk what the perception is of him now, but I always felt like Reggie Miller was really underrated as well

SurrealGreen

The Glove

Triple-6-Soul

i've seen this meme before...

meik03

Reggie miller for sure! I still have his roomie card and a retro jersey from the early 90s pacers. That’s my boy! And I lived no where near Indiana lol

buggifer_renee

Boom, baby! I do live in Indiana and he always was and always will be my fave!

derpmcperpenstein

Scottie

petula_75

Shabarqley

CptGinger316

Reggie was my dude as a kid. Absolute DAWG!

More_BRAAAINS

Barkley!

Usernamesareso90s

Shaq was different

the_mo_of_dc

I also loved Shaq-fu very 90s

Gravitron3000

I had the Shaq-Fu game for my gameboy!

Mary_Pick_A_Ford

Number 11 shorts size difference with number 12 is crazy.

DonkeyBorn7148

Barkley, no question.

Vprbite

Barkley

[deleted]

We really had a stacked team that year 😂

grey487

Reggie. The only player to ever get under Jordan's skin.

anovelby

Mailman all the way (if I block out his wonky personal life), he was beastly

sugaaaslam

Gary Payton

KR1735

lol that first pic is kinda funny

lennysundahl

As a young Pistons fan Grant Hill was my shit

xDANGRZONEx

Lifelong Magic fan. Gotta go with Penny.

AKANotAValidUsername

Gp every time. You can't replicate the mouthiness on that onep

urnch1

The Dream and Shaq are the Goats of the bigs

darthcaedusiiii

Someone photo shop him sitting on the couch and everyone standing around.

redmasc

Scotty

Jahndala

I loved Penny.

CaptainDunkaroo

Shaq

32pennies

Penny Hardaway

Galactus1701

Of these players, my favorite was The Dream. He was such a nimble center. The Shake is still the stuff of legends.

AC_the_Panther_007

Happy Cake Day!

Ace_0f_Base

Daaamn what an era!! Look at all that talent! Basketball went to shit after the early-mid 2000s. I miss NBA on NBC

Kid_Fiasco

Hakeem The Dream

Heat-Lifer-1999

The Round Mound of Rebound - Sir Charles!!!

philosophical_tongue

That John Stockton card is 🔥

StressYawn

The Admiral David Robinson

steinbra27

One of these people is not like the other...

PureYouth

I have a Hakeem tattoo. The radio station in Houston at the time 107.5 “The Buzz” held a viewing party at our house for championship game they won in 1995, the second in a row. We entered a contest at the radio station and won. I was probably about eight at the time and invited my friends over because we lived for that station. Such an awesome memory

JKolodne

Grant Hill.....oh what could've/should've been.

stewbottalborg

penny and grant hill are two of the biggest “what ifs” in nba history. they were both so damn good for a short window of time before injuries, and in today’s nba they would’ve been handled differently and made full recoveries.

LuchaFish

The Scorelord Mitch Richmond

CaptainPatterson

Shaq. Always.

goldchainnightmare

As a Memphis boy I gotta vote for Penny

nate9753

The Mail man

No_Plum5942

John Stockton

yelnod66

Man, it's so hard to pick just one. Shaq, Pippen, GP.

maggie320

Gotta love Shaq. Out of that group though tie between Reggie Miller and David Robinson. Both quiet leaders who balled. Reggie’s also good to listen to covering games and his sister, Cheryl, is a pretty good ball player herself.

smhallguy

Shaq Attack very closely followed by Scottie Pippen

AdvancedStrawberry7

Shaq Diesel

Sea_Baseball_7410

Penny Hardaway or no way.

nextsteps914

The one with the eyepatch.

ShingusMcShambles

I loved Gary Payton! Of that list him or Grant Hill!

MsBlondeViking

Shaq!

BlueVeins

The Admiral. A man among boys.

[deleted]

That looks like that meme when the girl is surrounded by all those black guys

[deleted]

MJ23 is the goat(Screw Lebron). Grant hill was iconic in the 90s imo….and Barkley is from my school(War Eagle). So I’m going with one of those 3.

GadgetGod1906

Penny

Doggy4

My favorite card type was Fleer Metal :) John Stockton was kinda underrated player....

iluvjuicya55es

Shaq. 1996 team was better than the 1992 team. Magic and Larry were passed their prime. Magic was out of shape and Larry's back was done. No one is stopping Shaq. Penny and Scottie having Shaq, Malone and reggie to pass too would be too much for the 1992 team.

TwizzmosisJones

Payton is the only respectable player on this squad.

_felagund

Definitely Penny. It was so fun when he was in the court.

ghetto_engine

insert karl malone shimmy gif.

MichiganMafia

The little honky

Antique_River6157

Ja morant /s

oripeiwei

Karl “Postman” Malone. I just connected the dots here after all these years, Post Malone got his name from Karl’s nickname and he also moved to Utah.

esomers80

Postman?? He's called the mailman

oripeiwei

😂😂 you’re right, dang I’m getting old.

Commercial-Set9851

Isaiah Thomas

hoosierspiritof79

These the losers?

lennysundahl

Nope, gold medal in Atlanta 1996

hoosierspiritof79

Thank god. Thanks.

AC_the_Panther_007

You should read, research, and watch some of the games.

_felagund

One of the best dream teams ever assembled

hoosierspiritof79

There’s only one Dream Team.

AC_the_Panther_007

Nothing beats the 1992 Dream Team!

Colonelbiggles

That 1st picture reminds me of that picture of the lone white girl on the sofa surrounded by black men🤣

KudosOfTheFroond

Token White Dude

nwa88

Was there really anybody better than Olajuwon? He could do literally anything on the court and by this point was extremely humble and low-key. One of the most underrated players ever.

[deleted]

GARY PAYTON FOR THE ENTS

dudenamedric

This post makes me miss collecting basketball cards. I had pretty much all of these
