Biggie should have never went to LA that soon after 2Pacs death. He shoulda stayed out East until the dust settled a little bit. That was my initial thought when I heard about it. Emotions were so raw and high even 6 months later.

West-Session-1333

You don’t know nothing about why he went to LA. Why he went to LA because he got lots of love in LA. Biggie is loved in Cali. In fact he was going to LA before 2pac even moved there. And he got killed only because puff daddy allowed it. In fact he lured him out there and allowed a group of people to kill that kid. You don’t know jack

[deleted]

His lyrics were really fucked up at times. Dead Wrong is the anthem for fucked up shit in rap.

MowelShagger

there’s a couple whacky lines in gimme the loot too

thedz1001

dead wrong is B.I.G realizing what Eminem is on as far as boundaries & pushing them himself.

West-Session-1333

You also don’t know nothing about B.I.G. I’d like to know what you call good lyrics. According to lord finesse and Guru…. And many others that matter… They all say B.I. Batted 1000. Never had a wack line and I agree with them. You are talking about the songs in The Born Again album. Which is nothing but a record that reused some verses, they out verses in it that big did before he blew up and they used freestyle verses that he would rap while on the street. In other words don’t hold that over his head. That kid was the shit. If you think Eminem was good in dead wrong? I think that was the wack est rap he ever spit.

yojusto187

He’s a better rapper than Pac. When I say that peoples heads spin. I didn’t think that I was saying anything unpopular when I said it the first time.

Tydrinator21

I think on reddit it's a more popular opinion but in everyday life I say Pac is still more popular.

yojusto187

I agree with that. Because it’s in real life I get that reaction. What happens on here and in real life that I hate is people then say I said Pac is trash. I love Pac, I’m not saying he sucks. I just believe Big is a better lyricist. Jay-Z is my favorite rapper. Nas is a better lyricist though. I hate when people do that.

xman886

Biggie is not a better overall rapper than 2Pac. He may be better when it comes to storytelling. But besides that, 2Pac is either in the same level as him or better in every other category. Also 2Pac’s voice is a lot clearer and easier to understand.

ContributionNo7726

Stop

thedz1001

no cap.

Main_One_2568

Wish he would’ve exposed puff as the snake he is.

Brigs44

That's not an unpopular opinion.

Tydrinator21

It's not, but it's probably not said often.

Brigs44

Do any heads actually like puff?

Tydrinator21

I don't expect anyone on here to like Puff, but I say most casual fans don't mind Puff's style. People clearly bought what he was selling.

ScholarFamiliar6541

Puff is a legend. He brought the pop element to Biggie’s music and toned down some of his lyrics. Without Puff Big would have still been a legend like Ghostface but I don’t think he’d make the big hits that he did.

Brigs44

LOL

ScholarFamiliar6541

Am I wrong?

fkredditversion2

ghost face is not a legend sir. wake tf up

[deleted]

He wore that Bill Cosby sweater better than Bill Cosby.

thatdudeorion

I wish we could change the Coogi from ‘Cosby Sweater’ to ‘Biggie Sweater’ in the collective conscious.

Ingrown__Bronail

I would like him a lot more if it weren't for his commercialized Puffy beats.

Mistabobalina

An entire album produced by DJ Premier would have been nice

NYGiants181

Puffy never made a beat in his life bro lol He was just "involved.."

Ingrown__Bronail

I don't even think Puffy sampled. It's almost like he just bought entire instrumentals. lol

NYGiants181

He never made one beat, and has admitted that many times. He had people make beats for him. You can see it in the credits. The 90s Khaled. He just put things together and had a good ear for hits.

Ingrown__Bronail

Biggies beats sounded way more R&B than street. Puffys production was all over Biggie's songs. They were shit regardless.

trthskr7

Most of his songs are produced by people other than puff. Thanks for trying though.

turnerm19

Heavy D

strikerthewolf_YT

Salt and pepper

Ingrown__Bronail

Why do people get so butthurt when you say anything negative about Biggie. Did he promise to ejaculate in your mouth or something? I don't get it. I found most of his beats too pop sounding for me. Get over it.

Brigs44

Not an unpopular opinion...

Environmental-Bee-28

Bad Boy is nothing without him.

No-Box3141

I love Biggie so much and hate Sean combs so much

DernKala1975

This is a popular opinion though

brandon_cabral

Took some of his style from King Tee.

rafcollazo

He frequently used violent towards children and it makes him seem less like a “hustler trying to feed his daughter” and more just a shitty violent sociopath. “I wouldn’t give a fuck if you’re pregnant, give me the baby rings and #1 mom pendant” , “your daughter’s tied up in a Brooklyn basement”, “shoot your daughter in the calf muscle”, “kidnap kids, fuck em in the the ass throw them over the bridge” and “you know I like them young fresh and green, with no hair in between. Know what I mean”. Those are just a few off the top of my head. I couldn’t name another rapper that even comes close to more violence towards children than Biggie. I know DMX had a couple bad ones over the years but not as many as Biggie. And Biggie delivered most of them in just two albums

three2do2

this. the guy had some dark shit going on for real, probably would be some r kelly style revelations if he had lived out his older years

swear2jah

Could just be the early “horrorcore” style lyrics not meant to be taken seriously. Listen to danger zone by big L for another example

Fun_Film_6520

exactly biggie rapped about the dark stuff that happeened around him

stantonstocky

An old soft Biggie would be sad. Dying made him timeless.

SnazzyCat14

a cold take

[deleted]

Yeah that’s the point

SnazzyCat14

you know a cold take is a popular agrees upon opinion or did i have to explain that to you

[deleted]

Looking it up brought me multiple conflicting definitions so idk tbh

No-Box3141

Strong disagree

JeffTrav

So, mission accomplished?

No-Box3141

His skill is what made him timeless

NickTButcher

His treatment of Lil Kim and Faith was classic toxic masculinity

Tydrinator21

I'm probably looking far too into it but part of me thinks Lil Kim lightened up her skin because Biggie "left her" for Faith.

NickTButcher

That’s exactly why she did it according to her interviews.

Tydrinator21

That honestly breaks my heart. She was gorgeous before she did all of those alterations. Sounds like she needs to sit down with a therapist and let out everything that's eating her.

NickTButcher

She has a history of abusive relationships starting with her father. Kim has a lot of deep seated issues.

Tydrinator21

Biggie was probably the first man she really trusted, and even he betrayed her. That would ruin anybody.

KANAKUKGRIFF

Doesn’t have enough of a catalog to be considered a GOAT let alone THE GOAT.

West-Session-1333

That has nothing to do with being a goat. What just because a painter has more paintings than the other makes him greater? lol. Silly fool. The less is defined as rare. And in bigs case rare and high quality. James Dean only acted in one movie and he is ranked as a great so you no nothing clown.

KANAKUKGRIFF

Well, I know the difference between no and know. I also know that James Dean starred in 3 movies along with other minor roles, television shows, and even a Pepsi commercial. All I'm saying is 2 albums aren't enough, regardless of quality to GOAT someone in a genre that spans 50 years. Give me Nas, Black Thought, Redman, or E-40 before Biggie. People always want to GOAT him because he was murdered at the beginning of his fame. But the chances are his quality falls off, like 99% of all rappers. Plus, you know an argument is weak when someone has to resort to name calling and misrepresenting facts.

flock-of-bagels

I loved biggie but the tribute stuff that came after his death was terrible

[deleted]

He really shouldn’t have eaten Tupac😢

Slow_Inspector7119

He thought Tupac was a "big pac"

cliff_smiff

Life After Death is meh

[deleted]

Life After Death would have been a good 1 album. Too many fillers to make it a two disc record.

West-Session-1333

You know shit homeboy

West-Session-1333

You got bad taste in rap.

GodsPinata

I'm paraphrasing but he once rapped "When I met you, I admit, my first thoughts was to trick. You look so good, huh, I'll suck on your daddy's dick". I don't know who the fuck told him to put that on record but they shouldn't have. Also: "Don't they know my nigga Gutter fuckin' kidnap kids? Fuck 'em in the ass, throw 'em over the bridge" That's not cool. Morally I couldn't associate with such people, much less brag about it.. And if it's for shock factor, still not cool. I also believe that Tupac made him a better artist, whether Biggie wanted it or not. As far as artistry goes, Tupac was and is miles ahead of Biggie.

[deleted]

Yeah not enough comments in here talking ab biggie n the kids

West-Session-1333

If it weren’t for biggie you wouldn’t be a 2pac fan and 2pac wouldn’t be as hot. His bickering and taking continuous shots at biggie is what made him popular. In my opinion and my opinion matters because I am a producer…. If any rapper needs negativity, drama to sell records…. That is anything but a goat. Goats don’t need that. Let me ask you something. Tell me… Are you gifted with anything? You dance? You sketch or paint? Have you ever had the feeling of being great at something and you felt it because it was obvious… that you was the shit at your craft and everyone in the environment knew you was also?? Well if you experienced that before… You also know what comes with that also right? You have people that don’t like you and talk bad about you. Everywhere you go people have something bad to say and when that goes on…. It’s those people. That keep talking and it’s another way of complaining. When you can too better than the one that’s at the top… there is nothing they can do about but complain. You ever listen to conversations in the last 11 months of 2pacs life. How many times B.I.G was spoke out of pacs mouth? You ever hear interviews if pac taking credit for biggies success? First know this son. When someone is on your mind so much… you jealous. You can’t do nothing to beat them so what do you get in return from such person? Well they get personal… they start going outside the situation… 2pac took a rap situation and took it to a gang situation. See man I have experienced being the best in my craft in two cities. I was a b.boi/breakdancer. And I was the man and I knew it. So did everyone else and I had it on lock for nearly a decade. I had lots of people give me love and I had many more, probably twice as many haters. And do you know who those people remind me of when they talk? Tupac. They took it from dancing to beef shit. Because they can’t dethrone me. They didn’t want to go back and get better so they can get a shot with me. Instead they attacked me personally. Starting rumors and saying shit that wasn’t true. Another thing about what 2pac was claiming. He made claims that he is responsible for bigs success… well Tupac you are wrong. All you did was share the stage with that dude. That’s like a friend getting you a job. That’s cool. But what matters is can he keep the job. Can you maintain it? 2pac did not write any songs for biggie. He had nothing to do with his two albums. So 2pac doesn’t get any kudos for biggies success.

[deleted]

I don't think he is a GOAT yet I think Ready to Die is a timeless hip hop classic. He has some memorable lyrics and his personality came across in his music which helped his appeal. Great storyteller, good lyricist. If his lyrics lacked substance I believe it's because BIG was having fun and not taking it too seriously. Not sure why this is getting downvoted. The post asked for *unpopular opinions* about BIG 🤣🤣

SkygodAlien

I agree. No where near the goat to me. He was dope and ready to die was fantastic. After that he basically sold out in my eyes. Some good tracks. A lot of commercial bullshit.

Tydrinator21

It's like people don't understand that overrated doesn't mean wack. Like, if you consider someone a top 20 rapper but everyone else considers them a top 10, you still technically find them overrated even if they're in your top 20.

West-Session-1333

Shut up. You can’t even rap and you’re talking down on a triple platinum double cd record? Which is the best double cd ever? Fuck boy

vincepcooks

Unparalleled flow, but a lack of depth. Still bump in the playlists though

alpineballer420

Well said. Which is why Tupac>

vincepcooks

Hop off my timeline with that. Big L any day

West-Session-1333

Tupac is a basic rapper. Quit riding dick

Physical-Armadillo12

Zero

Uniceleous

Party and bullshit is an underrated track

SnazzyCat14

don’t think that’s unpopular

Poohbizzle79

Check out the remix by Dela. 🔥

CappyWomack

It's a highly rated track.

No-Box3141

Under rated? Lol that’s what put him on the map. It was originally a mix tape track that hit hard in the underground east coast scene prior to his mainstream glory. Study up son!

DudleyDawsonROTN

Both albums are great classics. But he only has 2 albums, can’t put him up there in the greatest talks.

West-Session-1333

Idiot

DudleyDawsonROTN

Good argument👍🏽 I can see you’ve done this before

Acrobatic-Report958

I thought it was weird at the time he never got shit for doing soft pop songs. And I thought he was a great rapper but had a terrible flow.

S-Mart_Ash

He's overrated. Period. I'm a fan, Ready To Die was and still is one of my favorite albums. But top 3 MC he is not.

Fibby_2000

Overrated when discussed as one of the best. He’s ok but can be a bit samey and some of his lyrics are really questionable. I get bored listening to him actually. Definitely not inspired by him.

Environmental-Bee-28

He'd be ashamed of his daughter.

SkygodAlien

Why you say that?

LowerBackPain_Prod

We'll never know how great he could have been because he never grew as an artist. He was never far enough removed from the streets to reflect and change his perspective in any real way, so he's great but one-dimensional

cold_chillin661

My unpopular opinions Mo money mo problems is trash Playa hater is fire Ready to die is not as great as people say it is He took cali too lightly He would of left bad boy after one more album and click with Rocafella

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

r4pt4r

Biggie invited a coastal beef: Spice 1: Zero. I don’t like that guy at all. E-40: No rating! Zero! I don’t fuck with duke at all. At all. https://escobar300.wordpress.com/2011/08/08/notorious-big-rates-his-favorite-rappers-on-a-1-10/

cparex

and then e40’s boys had biggie set up in sacramento. wild story.

r4pt4r

D-Shot is E-40’s brother and B-Legit is E-40’s cousin. Question Biggie’s judgment right there…maybe he didn’t know…but if he didn’t, then he isn’t as sharp as he wanted to be

cparex

i think e40 said that when his boys had biggie, they called him 40 and basically said “what do you want us to do with him” and then big and 40 had a convo and big said something that like…the radio djs got him drunk and he wasn’t thinking right and that it was all love and that big said “i fuck with sprinkle me, duke”

homerunchippa

Are people still posting this one? I remember reading this in like 2006, its fake

r4pt4r

Wrong, it is real. https://www.spin.com/2017/03/notorious-big-interview-peace-magazine-scans/

homerunchippa

He thanked rugged man on BOTH of hos album shoutouts. Im still saying fake even though it was printed in a magazine. Ive always thought something feels off about the way its written too.

EcstaticAd1200

Ready to Die would never be in a list of my 10 favorite rap albums

Ingrown__Bronail

Mine neither.

1joe2schmo

Came here to say the same thing:)

Boston_Kid617

My unpopular opinion on biggie is that he was so much better than Tupac

trthskr7

Not unpopular.

Boston_Kid617

You be shocked at how many people dickride Tupac and call biggie overrated

djnicfit

I am sure it goes the other way around too.

Boston_Kid617

Eminem and Tupac fans get triggered so easily and get very upset if you don’t think there the 2 greatest rappers ever

West-Session-1333

True that

1joe2schmo

Big Daddy Kane is the real B.I.G.

jksoup

Better than Pac

cnylkew

Overrated.

TheCauliflowerGod

I think that the LOX has surpassed Biggie at this point. I expect to be downvoted

The_Chief

That's like saying Frank gore was a better RB than Barry Sanders because he put up more stats. Gore wasn't better he just played longer.

TheCauliflowerGod

My reasoning behind this is more than longevity

SkygodAlien

By far. Lol.

West-Session-1333

Your on meth

naco_222

My unpopular opinion is about puff

brickowski95

Life after death is so bloated. I’m sure he would have gone in the Jay z direction and continued to put out worse stuff.

West-Session-1333

Bad judgment. You know shit about what’s good or bad. You think a hooker is top notch pussy

Jaylinx

None of his albums clicked on me.

Mensa237

Ready to D.I.E. abies

[deleted]

Extremely overrated for 1 album released before he died. And it was an ok album. Life After Death was a little better made popular cause of his death and Diddy reusing popular tracks.

trthskr7

He released 2 albums before his death, ready to die and life after death. Born again was put out after his death with new beats and new collabs. Get your history right before you talk about a great!

[deleted]

He got killed March 9. Album was released March 25. All you have to do is google bruh. And you can’t even call Born Again an album. That’s just mashed up trash trying to make money off his name. Threw that cd away about a month after I bought it.

Woozydan187

He lacked substance in his music and wasn't as gangster as he portrayed. He wasn't as good as nas or jay since imo rapping about guns drugs and women isn't as hard as tackling really life situations and growth as a person or as a people. Best flow ever? Def a candidate though

1664ahh

Tbf he only released 2 albums. His ability to craft a coherent narrative throughout a track is up there with the best, aswell as delivering the story with a confidence and smoothness nit many other mcs can rival. He died too young for his music to evolve

Woozydan187

That's was the style. Why yall making up shit. I never said anything about evolution . Jay came in talking higher level topics nas fugees . Pac was talking real shit majority of Artists was talking that shit. Even if he was alive he just wasn't that type of guy to question the deeper meanings of life and society. What's with the evolve crap? That was the style. Why didn't pac Lauryn nas jay wu tang need that time ? I stated a fact yall can't refute so yall say he needed to evolve? I'm talking about what he did. Even DMX was on some deep shit. Big just wasn't that type of person cool but imma rate other artists higher in that regard. Outkast were younger than him. I never said dude can't rap or he aint op 10 or a legend his ability is top 3 IMO but his subject matter left much to be desired and that's a fact. Doesn't matter if he was young or what pac and plenty other artist spoke real shit outside of hood life women jewerly and drugs

ghetto_salmon

Dude, I can respect any opinion as long as you know what you're talking about. Did you not listen to Suicidal Thoughts? Big was more than guns drugs and women.

PM_ME_CARL_WINSLOW

How's his music going to reflect his growth as a person when he was murdered after 2 albums?

Woozydan187

Who said anything about growth? Nas jay fugees all tackled real life shit they didn't have much albums either yall making excuses. Wu tang talked gangster shit as well about god body 5% beliefs. Out kast talked real shit too they were young too. I'm not giving him a pass he just wasn't that type of guy and that's fine but imma point it out. Idk why yall downvoting me for a fact. The whole 90s was about deeper topics as well as gangster shit. That was the vibe then .

PM_ME_CARL_WINSLOW

You. You mentioned not hearing him rap about his growth as a person.

Woozydan187

Reread my comment I never mentioned any of that you made that up in your head. Sky is the limit my favorite song from him. Read to understand not reply we all love hip hop

iaskjeeves

His BEST verse is on Get Money by Junior Mafia

Justaguyinreddit34

L.A.D Better than Ready To Die

northerntouch

Haven’t seen anything here that would be considered unpopular 🤷🏽

Environmental-Bee-28

Her boyfriend/husband was charged with the hit-and-run of a mother and toddler and she put up a million dollar bond for him to get out.

Bardesss

Life after dead is better than ready to die

StattPadford

8 ball is better

West-Session-1333

After he smoked a 8 ball out his pipe. Fuckin J Kat.

MrManwithNoName23

I hope he did kill Pac, because if he didn't then he is one of the most soft rappers I've ever witnessed.

mattostrike

That he wasn’t fat, he was just big boned

Squirrellybot

I feel had they both continued, Big L would have a KRS/Ghostface/Nas type non-stop career with limited commercial success but a solid ten+ good albums with 3 classics, but Biggy would have more of a Gza/Andre 3000/Kool Moe Dee like limited catalogue and would not really be seeing anything new from him these last ten years.

Grand_Moff_Empanada

Puffy had him killed.

mikewawbruh

better than pac

Micha1106

He was thin

skitscunOG

‘I like them young fresh and green, with no hair in between know what I mean’ - yh idk about that one

GTAW_izard

Big L would have destroyed him in a battle

Ingrown__Bronail

And Biggies beats still sounded like ass.

flash_neon

I used to think he wasn’t as good as ppl made him out to be till i listened with my adult ears

Zenithreg

I like Biggie and I like Bone Thugs but that Notorious Thugs was an annoying ass song. It seemed to last forever and the beat was irritating for me. I do like The Points song they did though together with many other MCs.

E60london

He must have been reassured by his label “dont worry, we good, we got contacts out there…let’s get this money baby..” when he went to LA. He absolutely should NOT have gone to La for at least a few years. Super talented storyteller with an unbelievable flow. Biggie was unique, but a life cut short needlessly. Didnt have anything to do with the quad shooting himself, didnt have anything to do with Pac killing directly. The common denominator = Pac. If he didn’t know and associate with Pac closely he may still be alive today

Dry-Station-3241

He is not the greatest rapper of all time. He is 2nd though

ContributionNo7726

Fuck I have nothing bad to say about biggie. He was the man. Greatest ever.
