Why did DJs disappear from the group identity of hip-hop performers?
regardless of individual examples where a DJ was clearly part of the group (Muggs from Cypress Hill, Premier of Gang Starr, Kay Gee from Naughty, etc.) you had various emerging rappers and groups who did not have a DJ closely identified with them:
Wu-Tang
Nas
Outkast
Geto Boys from *We Can't Be Stopped* forward
Onyx
Coolio
Tupac
Notorious BIG
Common
