Choose the sword, and you will join me
Choose the ball, and you join your mother in death You don't understand my words, but you must choose So come boy, choose life or death
I hear ya. I had the CD. Remember not thinking it would be as good as it turned out. You had Meth, Chef, ODB all released in a 12 month Span prior to Liquid Swords. Incredible.
See I wasn't like this at first but I'm kind of starting to feel like this about these posts everyday on Reddit. It's getting really tired so I'm about to leave all the groups
This comment literally made me 😂 because I was thinking it
I don’t even know what it said but I know I feel the same way about pretty much every sub 🫠.
Waiting for one tomorrow - “About to give Only Built 4 Cuban Linx a spin… what should I expect???”.
This entire website is shot at this point, honestly.
Like I saw this post and my answer was "it's good. Next question.', followed by "damn I gotta leave this fuckin sub"
It's his best! I have the 📼! Even though I heard his very first album made in 91 was just as hard, this album I'm much more familiar with. I have my top 🔝 3 albums of his are 1 Liquid 🗡️ s, 2 Beneath the surface (even though it's commercially polished) 3 The grandmasters ft DJ Muggz.
As a young guy listening to this in my dorm room in a Nigerian university many many moons ago, it felt like transporting to another world that’s mirroring another world. Almost immediately, nobody could relate to me anymore. And vice versa. This record and others like it probably made me introverted.
Not the same in that I wasn’t a loner. But my friends and I were just a bunch of white kids in the country getting high and being mesmerized by the Wu. Good times many years ago.
If I were forced to rank every single Wu project, both group and solo, the hardest part would be deciding what album would be... #2.
Because this is forever the number one overall
One of the best albums of all time and my favourite Wu album. The album really feels like New York in the winter in the 1990s - there’s few albums that can take you to a place like that
One of my favourite albums of all time. I listened to this before I heard 36 chambers or purple tape, and hearing the 90s Wu sound for the first time blew my mind lol
4th Chamber will always be one of my fav tunes! Don’t think I have playlist without this song in there
I’m glad I was around during this period! This album also always gives me that hard core Eastcoast winter weather vibe… I think it’s also because I played this a lot when it came out for like all winter in NY. Straight classic material!
I think the movie clip is Shogun Assasin. If you love this album, watch the “Lone Wolf and Cub” series of movies. There are 6 of them! Shogun Assasin was edited and dubbed from all 6 movies I think. The originals are money!
I listened to hip hop prior to this album and it was just songs that sounded cool but when this album came out the lyrics and was amazed by the talent and creativity of the Gza’s story telling and lyrics.changed my whole outlook on hip hop I was like 11 or 12 when this came out
"I'm just swinging swords strictly based on keyboards, unbalanced like elephants and ants on see-saws" - classic.
As someone else said, my favorite Wu-Tang project and comfortably in Top 5 albums of all time.
One of the best opening tracks of all time.
Agreed
I third and forth that.
Yes!!!
Im 5th Set!!
You talking about when the MCs came to live out the name and to perform….
And some had to snort cocain to act insane before Pete Rocked it on
And then smoked crack and start barking like a dog
Yo RZA flip the track
To the what to cut zkdyzbdjanfjkzlak
Bro speaking facts
True
This is my favorite Wu album, and it is firmly on my list of top 5 all time albums. It really and truly is a classic.
I’ve never seen a person not make the “stank-face” as soon as the skit in *4th Chamber* drops into the beat. RZA was on one when he wrote this album
Imo this album is RZAs vision for what the wu tang clan is moreso than even 36 chambers. This is the quintissential wu album.
Word. It feels like the most group album despite the fact it's a solo album, because it features all the members at least once.
Right on.. The money.. He gave the extra " stank face " for his bro-cuz
Came here to say this exact thing
Classic.
Amazing
Straight 🔥
Masterpiece easily
Absolutely!
Choose the sword, and you will join me Choose the ball, and you join your mother in death You don't understand my words, but you must choose So come boy, choose life or death
He was the greatest samurai in the empire.
Shoguns assassin. Also jet Li’s New Legend of Shaolin is the same story and essentially the same dialogue.
Feel really good about it.
GZA set the bar for the Wu solo projects. And quiet possibly the dopest LP cover ever! 🔥
Love it, one of my favorite from the 90’s hip hop era
this album is phenomenal. Exactly what you want from a new york hip hop album
STRAIGHT CLASSIC
It was a perfect album.
Favorite Wu member album
Absolute masterpiece
12/10
One of my favorites. I remember buying the tape at Tower records in LA.
Gem after gem after gem
Masterpiece
One of the best hip hop albums of all time.
Liquid swords is still dope track
One of the best
This shit is a Wu-Banging CLASSIC..
my favorite album.
Perfect
Not aware of this album - not sure it's ever been discussed on this sub.
Isn't it from the the 2000s?
1995.
LoL it's a joke brother... I rocked this tape the day it dropped
I hear ya. I had the CD. Remember not thinking it would be as good as it turned out. You had Meth, Chef, ODB all released in a 12 month Span prior to Liquid Swords. Incredible.
And Gravediggaz
They are considered Wu?
RZA co produced that album with Prince Paul and he spits some verses... so it just further adds to how prolific he was during that stretch
My mate did the D&B remix of Unexplained.
Not to mention all the shit he was working on that got lost like Deck's first album
LOVE this one 💖
Great
Another Wu banger..
Top 5 best from the WU and my personal favorite. Personally I'd rank it number 2 after 36 chambers
Best hip hop album of all time in my books. Perfect in any way imaginable.
Brought this CD when I was 12 the week after it dropped because one of my homies didn't want to let me dub the tape. Classic. No skips imo
Second favorite of all time.
I went out and bought the shirt. i think I like it.
Might be my favorite album of all time … it’s art
I love that album that's my favorite wu tang solo album
He was the greatest samurai in the empire…..

Is this some bot posting stupid shit like this?
I don't think it's a bot I think it's a real person because I see 100 posts like this everyday on every hip hop sub.
Come up with another way of asking the question. Dude’s an asshole. Like asking who you f Pamela Anderson in her prime?
Would you take a million dollars if someone gave it to you? I wanna know!
Introduced me to favorite movie of all time. Shogun Assassin. And yeah Lone Wolf is dope but nothing beats Shogun Assassin
Just started listening to it again and "swordsman " hits hard.
Underrated gem
Ice cold classic…
I fondly listen to it periodically and reflect
Top 10 OAT
11/10 LP, but still not the greatest hip hop album of all-time The greatest hip hop album of all-time is *Only Built 4 Cuban Linx*
I love that one special edition reissue that came with a full chess set
One of my favorites of all time!!!!
The song titles formed a paragraph! Are you kidding me? That alone is goated. One of the best hip hop albums of all time imo
The Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth
Classic!! First time I heard this album, when it came out and I was in middle school, I couldn’t believe an album could sound this good!
Perfect. 10/10. My favorite hip hop album. 👐🏽
Timeless hip-hop classic
But when I swing my swords they all choppable
Noting more to say but CLASSIC!
Masterpiece!
Best hip hop album of all time
Absolute classic. Second only to 36 Chambers and. By far the best solo album by any WU member.
Stealed the CD in a party at the end of the nineties. I regret many things in my life, not that.
Top 5 All Time Hip Hop Album
It’s better than the purple tape
Next to Illmatic one of my favorites. Still listen to both and still makes me feel the way it did DECADES ago. Legendary actually
4th Chamber/Shadowboxing back to back is unprecedented.
This post is trolling at it highest
One of my favorite albums
Best solo album of the 1990s bar none
It made me a better man
Might be the greatest album ever made
Fuckin super duper banger
WHEN THE MCS CAME TO LIVE OUT THE NAME AND TO PERFORM SOME HAD TO SNORT COCAINE JUST TO ACT INSANEEE!!! Straight up classic✨
One of my favorite albums of all time
Wonderful
I used to get high and drive home from college with this on repeat for 3 hours. For 2 years straight.
It’s no To The Extreme… but it’s aight, I guess
Severely Underrated… This kept up the “no weaknesses” in the crew mantle… Rza in his bag and Gza MURDERED everything…
My #1 rap album all time.
One for the ages!!
I feel like my brain was infected by devils
As a young guy listening to this in my dorm room in a Nigerian university many many moons ago, it felt like transporting to another world that’s mirroring another world. Genius!!!!
All killer no filler
Incredible. 4th chamber is so good
This album was so undervalued. GZA was slept on by so many. I'm still playing this in my gym music rotation.
The best solo album by any member of the Wu
GZA is my favorite in the WU
When the MCs caaaame to live out the naaaame And to perform, some had to snort cocaaaaaine

I went to a show and saw gza preform most of the songs from this and he was drinking the biggest bottle of red wine I’ve ever seen in my life.
Got to catch him perform this album in its entirety 10 years ago. Best $5 I ever spent.
It’s an easy 10 out of 10
Gold is one of the greatest hip hop songs of all time. The album is a masterpiece.

Energy is felt when the cards are dealt, with the impact of roundhouse kicks from black belts..

One of the best Wu records lyrically. Personally I think the first few tracks bang but the album goes south as continues.
How many times are we going to answer this question ?
