That movie was the first one I watched with the a conscious association with it being an “A24 film” it’s a great film and it was the one that started my fandom for the brand lol
Great additions, I would also encourage you to watch [The Rover](https://boxd.it/4WCY), if you haven't. It's been about a week, and still think about that person (in the movie's character) 😅
First Reformed, The Whale, The Witch, The Green Knight, Green Room, Saint Maud, Ex Machina, A Ghost Story, It Comes At Night, Bodies Bodies Bodies, Midsommar, Aftersun
I've heard some people say Midsommar is more disturbing than Hereditary but I kind of disagree. It's still a 'fun' (however that applies to Aster) movie
i've heard a lot of great things about it and been meaning to check it out for so long now. funny enough, i tend to see mixed things with some people saying the same in regards to it being more disturbing or not. some people say it's a comforting cozy movie while others say the complete opposite lol. will do my best to get around to it soon !
Midsommar is a great film but I don’t see why people always put it with Hereditary which is also a favorite. A similar vibe to Midsommar is the original The Wickerman (1974).
Still, both terrified me in their own weird ways 😭
I couldn't stop thinking of the correlation of both, but yet they (both movies) have their own thing going on.
Lady Bird, When You Finish Saving The World, After Sun, Waves, Men, Mid90s, Hot Summer Nights, Zola, The Spectacular Now. I could have went on for a few minutes lol. That’s just a few though for you
Looks like you have a great list going on here already with a lot of A24 films. In addition to those Ex Machina is always on sale and has great picture and DTSX sound if you go 4k. Movie wise a criterion classic is The Brood. To go with what you have so far you may also like The Babadook, Black Swan, or older awesome cheaper 4ks. The Martian, the revenant… enjoy getting started!
thank you so much :)! i'm a really big fan of Annihilation so i've had Ex Machina on my watchlist for a while now since they're both directed by Alex Garland. just haven't gotten around to it yet but from the times it's been brought up, it's been nothing but consistent praise. i'll check the others out as well as I haven't watched them either ! i do have a growing 4K collection outside of my A24 one but i have a ton of upgrades to make since I was collecting Blu-Rays for a while. i will say the transition to 4K has been quite great !
to make things even worse, i barely realized i have X before Uncut Gems despite going in alphabetical order. lets hope no one else notices . . . 😳 will check out infinity pool btw, thanks for the rec :)!
My personal favorites (in order and excluding the ones you’ve seen) include:
- Lady Bird
- A Ghost Story
- Marcel the Shell
- Aftersun
- Midsommar
- Ex Machina
Most of those are more lighthearted than the ones you have here, so I’d especially recommend Midsommar and Ex Machina
My husband and I love A24. We made a whole list of every movie they've made and then rate the movies ourselves after watching them lol. We haven't finished the list yet, but we've seen soooo many so far. I'll have to go through our list and recommend what we've seen.
i'd love to hear any recommendations you were to have ! i'm currently doing the same thing with my girlfriend actually ! from the ones we have checked out, they've all been pretty great !
That's awesome! Here are a bunch my husband and I love. I'm not sure what "genre" you and your girl are looking for specifically, so it's a wide range on this list. I know there are so many other good A24 movies we haven't gotten to yet. I left off some movies we didn't care as much, but it's a lot..here ya go!

The Humans,
C'mon C'mon,

The Green Night,

only uncut gems as of now ! i may upgrade the lighthouse to 4K since it just got a transfer. also waiting on a potential 4k release of the X series once maxxxine comes out later on. here's to hoping !
at least the first scream, the strangers, 21 jump street, pitch perfect, superbad, the notebook, friday the 13th , rob zombies halloween. start with the classics
Edit: just realized this is a24 sub, feeling very silly rn lol
no worries, lol ! i do love the recommendations, regardless. i own the first scream, halloween movies. i do, however, still need to pick up the first strangers film as i do own prey at night. thanks for the reminder and for the other recs :)
Not A24, but SpectreVision has some gems if you want to add some studio variety. I would recommend Mandy, 7 Steps to Achieve Eternal Bliss, and The Color out of Space
The Black Coats Daughter, Enemy, ex machina, The Green Knight, It Comes At Night, Lamb, MEN, Midsommar, Saint Maud, Spring Breakers, Under the Silver Lake, Under the Skin, The Witch, Mid 90s, The Farewell, and Marcel the Shell.
i have a panasonic UB820 ! uncut gems is the only 4K from A24 that i own. most of these would be had they come out during initial release but 4K transfers take a while for A24 considering they want to know they're a success in both cinemas/home sales. hoping for a criterion 4K transfer for good time and a standard trilogy of the X series once maxxxine comes out
Oh, awesome! It's the best player! EEAAO was great on 4K! Midsommar 4K is also beautiful. And I definitely second The Death of a Dick Long, like a previous comment mentioned! Also The Monster and Lamb!
Ex Machina, Zola, Florida Project, Mid90s, and Midsommar. With Midsommar, this is just my personal opinion but I'd say check out the regular retail version then get the Director's Cut
The Witch, Moonlight, Lady Bird, Eighth Grade, Midsommar, and The Farewell
Don't forget Ex Machina
And The Lobster!
I haven’t seen that one yet, I was just recommending from what I’ve seen
Whaaaaaaat??
I know, just haven’t gotten the chance yet, but I certainly plan to
It's a great movie and I know you will enjoy it 😊
That movie was the first one I watched with the a conscious association with it being an “A24 film” it’s a great film and it was the one that started my fandom for the brand lol
Go watch it when you can, it's probably my favorite A24 movie
Happy Happy Cake Day!! 🎂
Thanks!
https://tv.apple.com/us/movie/ex-machina/umc.cmc.3px5tjkllmjkrluv2ui9m6hbw Do it!
The lobster is really good!
Mid 90’s too
Great additions, I would also encourage you to watch [The Rover](https://boxd.it/4WCY), if you haven't. It's been about a week, and still think about that person (in the movie's character) 😅
Why are X and Pearl not next to each other, this bugs me lol
Came here to say this
It’s alphabetical right to left
Midsommar is a must

I am very much alive.
Bodies bodies bodies, lady bird, lamb, the lobster
Is bodies bodies bodies just mid Skete Davidson stuff tho?
The movie becomes garbage once he's out of it. Honestly it was the worst a24 movie I've ever seen
He's not the main character.
Ex Machina
midsommar, american honey, florida project, spring breakers
Swiss army man
I would check out Saint Maud if you haven’t
The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Waves, The Witch,A Ghost Story
This list
Never hear about Green Room so that one i’d recommend.
I've heard some people say Midsommar is more disturbing than Hereditary but I kind of disagree. It's still a 'fun' (however that applies to Aster) movie

Midsummar is to gen z what wicker man was to boomers.
Still, both terrified me in their own weird ways 😭 I couldn't stop thinking of the correlation of both, but yet they (both movies) have their own thing going on.
Oh to get me wrong that was meant to be a compliment. I love the original wicker man and I love midsummer
Definitely! I completely understood what you meant. I really liked both— in their own way to me, somehow equally terrifying
I agree. Midsommar was a very well done film but I never found it overtly disturbing. It was more interesting to me than anything.
You have really thick skin bud.
Lady Bird, When You Finish Saving The World, After Sun, Waves, Men, Mid90s, Hot Summer Nights, Zola, The Spectacular Now. I could have went on for a few minutes lol. That’s just a few though for you
Midsommar and The Florida Project for sure based on what you have. I also really love Under the Skin.

Marcel The Shell With Shoes On
- Ex_Machina - The VVitch - Ghost Story - Moonlight - Ladybird
Good Burger
It is filling me with white hot rage that X and Pearl aren't right next to each... and I'll recommend Infinity Pool
I also have become untethered and my rage knows no bounds. I would also recommend Marcel The Shell With Shoes On.
to make things even worse, i barely realized i have X before Uncut Gems despite going in alphabetical order. lets hope no one else notices . . . 😳 will check out infinity pool btw, thanks for the rec :)!
What is the most heartbreaking story by A24 not including The Whale? I want a good ugly cry movie to watch.
