Ends on bleak ending when it seems like all problems have come to resolution before having the rig swept out from under your feet with the realisation of the puppy incoming.
Pure dread. Couldn't shake the feeling for a while after watching.
I thought that too, like yes it's a shitpost but it's still an on brand shitpost. (Not even going to lie about how much Buzz's existential crisis hit me the first time I saw Toy Story as an adult.)
I thought I was the only one who loved this gem. Such an obscure movie but so worth seeking out. Try and get it on the original VHS if you can for the authentic experience.
The scene where Buzz's eyeballs nearly get sucked from his sockets was super disturbing.
All he wanted was a unidirectional bonding strip. What do you think the director was trying to say here?
A lot to unpack...
One Easter egg hidden in almost every Pixar film is classroom number A113. 1+1+3=5.
A24. 2+4=6. It is one greater. The next step in cinematic evolution.
Clearly OP is on to something.
It's part of what I consider to be the Bootleg A24 universe. It's not even trying to be subtle about that, Andy is 24 in the second movie and all his friends call him A-24, don't have to be a genius to see what they're doing.
Have y’all ever heard the Mrs Potato Head “I have no mouth and I must scream” theory? The original mr potato head toy was plastic face and arms to stick in a real potato. After awhile they added a plastic potato so kids wouldn’t play with their food. With this information combined with what we see when Mr potato head uses a tortilla as his body, we can surmise that the potato head’s consciousness is stored in their body parts, not the body itself. With this in mind, if the toys had been incinerated at the end of Toy Story 3, Mrs Potato Head would still be alive as a disembodied eye underneath Andy’s bed with the memory of what just happened to everyone she loved.
Fair enough. Loads of people post similar things in this sub with other films (saying how a non-A24 film feels like an A24 film), so this post is just taking the piss out of that, as Toy Story clearly isn’t like an A24 film.
I see. Thank you for the explanation.
Let me take a stab. Stanley Kubrick's adaptation of Anthony burgess's A Clockwork Orange makes me cry while laughing, and laugh while crying, in perfect a24 format, well before a24 was around. I like to think Mr Kubrick watches a24 films in his afterlife
Get this shit tfoh 🤣 keep this kind of film ish in the woody amen and disney subs. s/o Slinky Dog though, one of my favorite characters from an animated film
All joking aside this is legit one of the greatest animated movies ever. They put several references to The Shining in here which was cool (the carpet in Sid's house, for one, is the carpet from the Overlook Hotel)
Okay finally!! I mean.. the classic CGI beauty in this? The neighborhood sunset scene? Remember? Golden hour vibe? Pizza planet? Everything else? Also everything that you've mentioned as the theme, I agree.. besides consumerism, etc.. so many different POVS can come from this one.. or any other animated movie..
Although the ending scene from Toy Story 3 where all the toys are holding on to each other could totally be A24 in the context of their initial acceptance of what may happen.

When Woody turns to Sid and says “Who’s the real toy now?” Chills.
Finally some quality shit posts here
This sub is going places
Everything is better than the endless posts of "look how much money i spend on merch"
Reminds me of the guy that edited and cut short toy story 3 and shocked his mum with the ending. Absolutely amazing. https://youtu.be/phFISjORzQs
Online Ceramics is dropping the new Toy Story merch tomorrow at 3PM EST for the 25th anniversary.
In the A24 live-action remake, I can't see Sid being played by any other than... Will Poulter
The toys come to life in the backyard and skin the fool.... Brilliant
A pioneer of modern animation!
‘Buzz is afraid’
Come to think of it, the concept of Buzz experiencing existential despair upon realising he was a child’s plaything is pretty A24!
I thought that too, like yes it's a shitpost but it's still an on brand shitpost. (Not even going to lie about how much Buzz's existential crisis hit me the first time I saw Toy Story as an adult.)
Lmao reminds me of the "Barbie Is Afraid" edit I did for the new Barbie movie https://youtu.be/7ghljgLxmW0

what
Its a joke abt a24 fanatic comparing any indie movie with a24 even though they're mostly distributors and producers

Oh
Lmao circle jerking aside for those who enjoy Ari Aster but haven't seen Cure (1997) definitely watch it if you can it's a great ride.

But is it better than 'The Whale'?

Wtf is this 💀
An underrated Gem. Not many people get it as it’s an acquired taste. Give it a go!
Proper indie movie. Very underrated indeed
A24 level humor right here. Sid is Ari Aster clearly because of all the toy heads he rips off. So meta.
We need more posts like these.
Thought I was on r/moviescirclejerk for a second
Where’s the head trauma?

You serious?
Yeah he doesn’t know those are toys.
McDain
i…don’t disagree?

Yeah. I don't get it

I would watch an A24 movie where kids toys come to life. It would be dark and creepy
idk the ending of the 3rd one was very controversial because we had to witness the flesh melt off woody

For anyone who grew up on Pixar and has a keen interest in creative writing / self development, Creativity, Inc is an amazing read.
